IDEA - Marble Madness with G-Sensor - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Came accross this
and it got me thinking, marble madness must be one of THE killer apps for G-sensor support
http://www.handango.com/catalog/Pro...9&deviceId=1152&platformId=30&productId=31651
Can anyone do it ?

the gods answered your prayer  http://www.4pockets.com/product_info.php?p=108
and it's great tbh ! =)

Not that good...
Is it me, or does the 'marble' just look like it's sliding along rather than actually rotating? Great idea, but the ball effects need a bit of work. At least with Teeter, the ball looks like its rolling, not sliding! Just my opinion

i think they took the images from the iPhone and carried them over since the graphics are not true VGA resolution and I find it noticeable. It's a fun game though...just can't sit on top of the screen I'm still a fan or Resco's Bubbles.

Yeah, and only costs $2.99 to get it for an iPhone, $14.95 or $14.99 for the rest of us losers.

[fun] A_C famous or.. ? :)

This is a captured screen from the serial Moonlight, s01e03. I guess it's iPhone, but it LOOKS just like A_C's S2U2. So I guess it's either A_C made a damn perfect copy of it (I dont know how exactly it looks on an iPhone), or this really is his S2U2 .
Smile man, you're famous ))))))
yea S2U2 made it to look like the iphone, no surprise the real iphone should look like it, haha.
He is chinese
I'm not so sure it is an iPhone you know. The notch towards the top if the device looks more like the one on the Polaris - the iphone has a similar cut out area but it's about half way between the top of the screen and the top of the device whereas this one looks to be almost right at the top.
(Can't believe I'm entering this debate - I really must try to get out more but the nurses are still worried I'll hurt myself!)

The notch you see is from a rubber protection case for the iphone I think.
My bet, this is just an iPhone and I don't get what this topic is all about.
It's for fun, nothing serious. Sorry if this is the wrong section.
It IS an iPhone.
Just so you know, A_C designed the Slide 2 Unlock/S2U/S2U2 as a WM replica of the iPhone device lock app. iPhone is the original, A_C just made a very nice WM version of it, not the other way around.
It is a real iPhone.

Proof of the pudding

Well ... 8 months of anticipation with highs and lows as we heard new stuff and I finally got to play with an X1 at a Vodafone store.
First thoughts .... very narrow ... obviously the 3" wide screen feels smaller than the equivalent 2.8" normal aspect ratio.
The build ... well ... although I'm sure the front is metal ... but the black one at least looks like a brush plastic ... it didn't have the standout quality feel I was led to believe. The chrome / polished metal or metal look plastic around it's waist and the edges of the keyboard definitely looks a little bling to me ... again ... doesn't look / feel like expensive kit.
You open the keyboard ... and as I'd noticed in pictures, there is a much larger gap around the waist than a TyTN or TyTN II. This looks a little odd. There is also far more play on the front edge of the mechanism that the TyTNs. Clearly a different type of mechanism ... but to me ... the open close and solidity is not as solid as either my TyTN or TyTNII. It feels more like my 8GB N95 before I had the slide replaced.
So ... in short ... for me at least ... the 'quality' of finish is not evident. Where as in practise it maybe as good or better than the TyTN II... as the TyTN II has no pretence to being made of metal etc ... it gives a more honest quality feel about it. This was a huge surprise to me ... particularly given my wife's T650i with mineral glass really does feel kind of special.
Anyway ... for me the talk of massive quality over the HTC devices is a myth.
Looking into the device ... The panels ... I kind of liked and the basic ones that come out of the box seemed to work well and perform fine. The delays only seemed to be graphical transition ... i.e. synthetically imposed. I'm sure the delays others mentioned maybe there ... when playing harder ... but there was nothing I noticed in the 15 minutes I played.
Memory has been confirmed by others now ... I just saw what had already been shown in screen shots.
Opera fails to open ... but on this one apparently just because there was no comms (no SIM or active wireless) .... I think when you use the panel browser that launched PIE without error ... again .. not Opera as others mentioned.
The keyboard ... initial feeling was ... very positive. I found the keys nicely spaced and noted there was a definite tactile feedback ... you knew you'd successfully hit the key. When trying to type ... I kept missing keys ... so it was a lot slower and less predictable than the TyTNII. I'm not sure ... this may just be experience with something different .. if so ... aside from the missing arrows and for me .. the CTRL key that no device has ... I'd very more than happy. It certainly felt more solid and reliable than the TyTNII keyboard which on occasion made me think one or two keys may pop off (they never did).
The Dpad ... for me ... it seemed fine. I had no problems with the up press at all ... possibly slightly less movement than the other directions but plenty nevertheless. The optical ... I agree ... it is too recessed to be useful. If there was a mouse pointer like you get with the BT Stowaway mouse ... or the 4700 touchpad ... then it may get more use.
Other buttons ... ok ... but to be honest ... not as good quality feel as I got with my TyTNII ... the V1615 variant (people complained about movement of the buttons ... but I never really had that issue).
The camera ... well stills seemed ok (at least with the zoom available on the screen) ... the video on the other hand was worse than rubbish. It may well have had the VGA resolution ... but it's response / refresh was so poor that anything that moved ghosted. This makes little sense because on paper it should have been as good as the N95 ... aside from the optics of course (i.e. the movement should have been crisp). This really means that it is no more useful than the TyTNII camera .... it doesn't offer you a viable carry anywhere camcorder which the N95 did. What a waste.
My general feel was that it didn't feel like a poor PDA (slow ... tatty) ... but it didn't really feel (even with the WVGA which felt too small) like a real improvement over the TyTNII. Massive disappointment.
I guess I will try the HD ... but without a soft dpad (which I'm told by Clove who had a near finished one in the other day ... is almost definitely not there). They also said there was no evidence of TV-Out - although the HTC guy suggested it maybe different with the final version ... I think that is unlikely .. things don't change that quickly.
So ... I probably won't invest in that either.
My only hope now is that the Galxy7 does actually get released. Given the rumours were for end October announcement ... I'm not feeling confident there.
Just to summarise ... the X1 is a good device when compared to what is currently out there ... what it isn't is the standout device - quality or performance wise - that 8 months of marketing and rumour as well as the massive price suggested.
Paul.
Nice review, its good to hear some honest opinions!
I used to have N95 as well and I agree that none of these new PDAs can beat its camera quality and speakers. Camera as mentioned above. Speakers are loud and clear with wider frequency response. Not to mention it's stereo too! I missed these two.
Got to disagree with you on your comparison to the TyTn II.
I've had the Xperia a week now and the TyTn II looks and feels like a fisher price toy next to it.
The build quality and screen quality are in a different league and the resolution increase makes such a difference.
You're right about part of the back being made of plastic. The top and bottom sections are, but if they weren't the cell and GPS radios would struggle for the reception. The rest of the phone is definitely all metal as in the morning it is cold to the touch. It certainly doesn't look bling to me or anyone who's seen it and I am the world's most anti bling person.
For me one of it's greatest improvements over the TyTn II, is the speed in which the screen rotates - it's pretty much instant, which is how it should be.
The panels aren't what I expected and I don't use them a huge amount. I tend to stick to the MS Today Screen or the Fishes. I might just be a little weird though - I've tried TF3D and think it is gimmicky (but pretty) and on my TyTn II I've tried pretty much every homescreen replacement from Ultimatelauncher through WAD to Todaylife and none of them have lasted.
ETA: The d-pad is pretty annoying actually, but I get on fine with optical pad, so I'm not too bothered about that. A ctrl key on the keyboard would be very useful though.

That's odd, the captures that have been posted on this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=434409) look pretty fine, no ghosting is evident at all.
What country are you in? could this be the difference between eu/us versions of the xperia, the x1i and x1a?
Stills are ok ... it is the Video that is awful. I'm in the UK so it is the 640x480 at 30fps.
If you shoot video of a still scene ... fine (ish) but if anything moves it is awful.
Re the materials .. I wasn't questioning the metal ... what I was saying is that it didn't look particularly like metal ... two different things ... my feeling is that it didn't look and feel like a jump in quality over the TyTNII. I'm not saying it isn't ... it just doesn't give the impression that is when held close up.
I so wanted to love this device as my previous postings show ... it just doesn't live up to it.
I'm also not questioning the WVGA ... all I'm saying is that seeing a 3" WVGA for the first time since the G900 ... some time ago ... it seems really small ... so small infact, for me, I think I'd rather have the 3.5" Galxy7 or the 3.8" HD (although I'm discounting that because of really really poor camera / video, no tv-out (apparently) and no soft or hard dpad.
The comparison with the TyTNII for me really centres around relative practical differences ... I know there are many extras like the radio and vga video and WVGA but if they aren't well executed or have other issues, it isn't worth the upgrade to me.
Very subjective though.
I think a phone should be small (screen size max. 3-3.5"), a pda should be middle-sized with larger screen (4"), and then comes the UMPC/netbook category. The Xperia (Diamond, Touch Pro, etc) fits fine in the first category as a phone, no need for larger screen. Touch HD is already between the phone and pda category, it is a bit too large to be a convenient phone. I know that nowadays everything is about iPhone and touch-screens, but we don't need to have "brick" or "portable" phones again
yes .. I agree ... it is this cross over need that makes it difficult.
for QVGA ... 2.8" is fine.
As you move to VGA and WVGA ... I think you are looking at a more media cross over device ... which requires a slightly bigger screen ... at least so the short length is the same as the short length of a QVGA device ... this is about 3.5".
The Galxy7 ... which will probably never come out ... seems the perfect compromise ...
Just a reflection on the ghosted video.
Did you look at the video in the phone or did you transfer it to a PC ?
I noticed that the phone can't handle the VGA resolution in 3gp when played back. And even when recording actually .
When you look at the recording on a PC it still has 30fps without ghosting.
I've got mine this morning, and I must say I disagree completely with the OP opinion on video. There's very little ghosting (I haven't owned a TyTN or TyTN II) in comparison to a Touch Pro.
When viewing a VGA video on the phone there's some occasional stuttering, but when transferred to a PC it looks, well, quite amazing for a phone video to be honest.
I haven't seen a video shot by an N95 for comparison either, but it's certainly not "rubbish".
for reference mine is an x1i, in the UK, from Vodafone (and branded as such).
edit: After playing with the phone in different light conditions there is a fair bit of ghosting, I think it depends on what you're filming.

X1 Screen, an advantage or a drawback ?

Dont get me wrong, i love the phone even if i have some issues.
after playing with the X1 for several days now i come to think if the 3inch WVGA screen really is a big advantage or a drawback.
Why?
Well, WVGA is a nice resolution but i think the screen is just a bit too small for it. It would work great on the Touch HD with its huge screen.
See comparision: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=128435&d=1226196066
When doing stuff in windows there are many situations when buttons etc are so damn small that you would even have trouble to exactly reach them with your stylus, let alone your finger. In Opera you can see alot more of the page with the high res, but you can hardly read anything without zooming, which i think wouldnt have to be done on the Touch HD.
In IE which doesnt support zooming, standard links are so small its hard to even hit them with the stylus.
Then we have the apps and games. Many of the games especially are made for VGA or QVGA and i dont think they will ever be ported to WVGA because the Aspect Ratio would just be wrong. So the games either dont run at all (Another World/Worms) or only use VGA res and leave the rest black (Age of Empires, Emulators) which again results into a very tiny viewport where its hard to read and hit anything.
Furthermore the screen is resessed, which i thought wouldnt bother me much, but cleaning up the dirt from the edges all the time is quite annoying...
So the final question comes to my mind: Is the 3inch WVGA screen really an advantage ? I dont know but i come to think it isnt.
Since my device has a hardware defect and is going back, i wonder if i should get a X1 again or maybe try the Touch Pro which has a slighty lower resoultion and 4:3 aspect ratio.
Given the shape of the device they couldnt have used another display size and resolution i guess, because to use VGA they would have to make the device wider, maybe thats a reason they used it.
What do you think ? Which real benefits does this screen have ?
I like it very much. I can read everything and get some more informations on the screen. For me it's not too small. The software I use works fine with wvga. Just in Worms World Party the edge is cut, but this doesn't bother me, I play very seldom. For Videos it's great, the black bars are now quite small so no wasted screenspace.
I have to say I have no problem reading anything when zoomed out and I don't have problems hitting buttons either. Links can be a bit of an issue in web pages but I would rather have a smaller device to be honest. I have to admit I have small hands and if I had big fingers I may well think otherwise!
The recessed screen is a bit of a shame but I will fit a screen protector and not worry about the dirt!
If I didn't want the keyboard then I would go with a touch HD. I didn't like the diamond at all and haven't had a chance to play with a touch pro yet.
i can also still read text when not zoomed in and hit the buttons...its not that i have bad eyes...
its just that i think the reading experience isnt really great...take for example the standard on screen keyboard, thats so small you even have to concetrate to hit it with the stylus.
On the Touch HD this resolution should work out great while surfing etc, but that doesnt have a keyboard :/
How should a Screen Protector keep the dirt away btw ? It will just be on the screen protector instead...still can go into the edges.
How did you get Worms to run ? With WVGA Fix ? Without it doesnt work for me.

Just installed and started it, no wvga fix or whatever.
hm will have to try that again then...which version did you use?
the viewport will be VGA however which would certainly be alot smaller than on the Touch Pro for example.

I agree it is small but I have to say I don't mind... If you want to use a keyboard why wouldn't you use the slide out hardware one?
I use a matt protector and it doesn't show dirt as much as the shiny screen.
I was wondering about games, I will give worms a go
TBH I was 50:50 about xperia or Touch HD and decided I wanted to try a hardware keyboard. I am sure the HD is also a great device.

You are a business-user? Than nothing compares with the WVGA even at 3". You get much more things to be read than at VGA. Had a look at AgendaFusion? Much more to see at WVGA at one view. Less scrolling, better overview.
You are working with text/excel? With softmaker office you can see the overview of a complete wide of a page and are able to see details! Much easier than on VGA.
You have banking software as Subsembly Banking? Much more to see at one view too!
Contacts? Much more without scrolling.
There are lots of situations every day giving WVGA an advantage over VGA. 3" WVGA are better for business than 2,8" VGA. And 3,8" often ist too big to carry with yourself.
I am using WVGA for over one year now (with my Toshiba G900) and I would not change back to VGA.
And for daily use I have created my own theme with WisbarAdvancedDesktop2 that fits my needs, is fingerfriendly and running very fast. Nothing more needed
I like the screen size. It's a phone, not a laptop and I'm confident that new panel UIs will solve the problem of tiny buttons all over the place.
But recessing the screen was stupid. Don't know what they were thinking

not necessarily in that order i do think the note addresses allot of issues with current smartphone. Then takes the best of a 5.3 " screen and adds some nice features plus they make it very pocketable given the extra screen estate and battery life gained from the note. Love it. I would have however asked for the screen to be amoled plus as its slightly sharper and the s pens button should be a textured kind and an additional button further up making it easier to find when needed. Just like a normal pen with soft rubber textured grip.
Any thoughts opinions or questions just ask. Also sorry if the lightings really that bad but it was 3 in the morning with energy saving dark bulbs since they certainly don't light much.

Thanks for taking the trouble to produce such informative clips of the Note which highlight the many brilliant features. You show how the Note can become the one device to replace a phone and tablet which is what I am going to do.
Thanks guys appreciate the feedback. If there's anything else you want to see or know let me know
Nice job indeedy! Much appreciated!

Thanks drgopoos for the pics those are fantastic. Always good when you want to see everything about this device.
One thing i was asked over at phandroid was if this will get scratched up like the shinny plastic on the s2 hopefully from the high res pics you will see there is no shinny plastic on this whixb is lovely also the metal plastic bezel on the side goes from front to back so the battery cover sits against it and it finishes just before the screen starts so the device feels quality
and the speaker has a little bump in the plastic that covers it so its not completely flat when on a table which is nice if you use speakerphone or listen to music
Ok this is the camera test since i was asked how the cam was on the note.
these are pics taken in complete darkness as was the 1080p vid just to show how good this thing is even in pitch black conditions

August Drawing Theme - Self Portrait

Last months theme wasn't much of a success, but as the creator of the idea I didn't do much to promote it with any drawings early on, but am hoping to change that this month (portraits are a preffered subject of mine).
Can be any style. Head only, full body, you in your environment, what ever. Help us put a face to a name...
As you know, this is a very busy time for me. Moving house and also product sourcing materials to expand my range. Had some sketches I lost when I had to wipe my tablet, but apart from that haven't had any time to do anything except play for a few minutes here and there. Would love to get involved with this, but can't make any firm promises at this point.

Heres mine! I sat a few hours yesterday using dropbox and floating browser as my "mirror" in Ps touch. Please note that i am 14 years old with no previous experience of art school or thr like and just bought my note 8 because i like to draw (to justify my summer-working money on it i said i would use it for notes in school.). Constructive criticismare very welcome as ive seen that virtually everyonr here is a lot better than me at drawing and I will gladly listen to any advice you have. For the glasses and the head being smaller there, that is what you get when you are nearsighted and have 3.50 on both eyes.
Never had lessons in digital drawing eh? You are on the right track. Great shading and use of colors and depth. It may not be realistic looking, but you have a talent that many (including myself ) wish they had.

My self-portrait contribution. Auryn Ink app. You can't damn save or underlay a reference picture, and the worst - erases the entire what you are working on if you rotate or press the back button. Though the closest to replicating watercolor behavior.
I didn't mean to make it as a formal portrait. I've be done lots of those for other people. Quick sketch. Unfinished drawing. I'm happy with the way it is.

Looks good to me. I'm still getting used to drawing on a tablet and the main thing I have learned is not to be affraid of layers and as a general rule build up a drawing from back to front. I'll try and get something up this week. looking to do my rough sketch and outline work this week. I'll end up with quite a few layers on mine. Rough outline. sketch. ink. then varous shading layers. 1 for back ground. 1 for skin. 1 for hair and 1 for details and a colour layer.
Looks like you have the patience and thats the hardest thing to learn (something I'm still struggling with). Keep up the good work.
Spent 20-30 minutes starting my initial sketch. layerpaint. first layer was rough outline and general shapes (done in pencil. 100%. red). then i added a new layer to start my sketch proper. pencil. 60%. black.
I'll continue my sketch to get more detail in it then move it to a different app to shade. I'm thinking clover paint, as it can import PSD files and unlike sketchbook pro, has a smudge/ blend tool but I haven't confirmed that it does all that I want it to yet so have not purchased it as of this moment.
I may do some more tonight, but my girlfriend is getting on at me to finish editing our photos from our weekend in brighton 2 weeks ago so she can make one of them her profile picture. More to follow...
Imported into clover paint and coloured. Shading still to do. Need to practice hair.

Good!
I've been doing portraits since my secondary school. The biggest thing i learned about after 2 decades of of on and off doing portraits is just being lose. Going with the flow. Yours is such.
A lot of people consider portraits to be the hardest to do. Not really so. All drawings have the same principles of edge, angles & proportions, shape, and shades & shadows.
All you need is the 50% light - 50% dark formula for contrasting.

I think it's a very nice drawing hertsjoatmon, I like how you've made the eyes look so natural, thats the part where I always fail. When I draw eyes i either fail completely while drawing the left one, or i get the proprtions totally wrong
