Voice / Audio quality - Touch HD General

This is something that I really like about my HD. Compared to my Polaris, the voice call quality is really brilliant. Even though I have a kinda low signal here at work, the callers voice is clear as clear can be. Way better than what I was used to with the HD, which wasn't bad either in my eyes ...
What do you guys think about the voice quality?

Are you saying that iPhone's voice is too soft? Was it a problem in noisy environment?

For me the loudness/volume of the ringtone of incoming call is to silent. Al settings of volume are on max. Even when I tried different ingtones.
Can't even find a phone setting ring and vibrate at same time on the HD!Maybe is there something I overlooked?

1. Increase the volume of the actual ringtone file.
2. Settings, Phone, Ring Type.

Recording phone calls on XDA2???

Has anyone figured out how to record phone calls on the XDA2??
I have tried just about every recording app out there and the only way I have been able to do this is using the phone on speaker and recording in notes or sound recorder.
From my experience no need to use the speakerphone.
Just using the phone on your ear will record both yourself as the other side (maybe my volume is higher than yours :? )
Pity though one cant use this when using a headset or carkit . . .
Thanks, it works.... I didnt think that it would. I would like to get an app to automatically record phone calls, any ideas??
Don't know what is wrong with mine, but when I press the record button during a normal conversation, my voice is recorded and the voice of the other person is very soft very soft... Hard to hear.
What could I do about that?
It happens to me exactly the same as j_met.
I can hear only my voice...
@ edsub
Can you hear both sides equally loud and clear?
Thank you
I hear the other side just a bit softer than myself.
Good enough in a quiet environment.
My in-call volume is set half-way.
Same for me and very annoying. I think this dumb device only records what you say to the microphone. If you can [barely] hear the other person, it's only because your volume is so high that the microphone picks it up..
why in the world would you need to record only what YOU say?? I think it must have took at least 3 engineers to build it this way.
~zzz
BTW, I have W2003SE 2.02 ENG installed and still no improvement

Ever heard of memo-recorders??
Recording a phone call is a nice extra (its posibility is nowhere stated/promised). Pity it doesnt work with all devices.
Hmm it seems to work well with mine in all places except very loud environments. In some instances it would not have been possible for it to have picked up the other end through the speaker (too much noise) but it still records them... not sure how it works!

You may also want to read http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=513&more=1 on this subject - it gives a nice overview of what you can expect from PPC PE devices and what applications there're to (even automatically) record phone calls.

How change speaker on skype-->to eyer speaker

when i call from skype it work on speaker, i whant change to eyer speaker how i can do it, whithout handfree... in htc diamond
Please use the search function. There are multiple threads on this. Short answer: impossible
lol I just wanted to ask that q
too bad cuz its impossible I dont wonna someone hear my private converzation..
Maybe you should talk to the guy from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421848&highlight=earpiece since he claims he did to for phones with OMAP processors. The Diamond/Touch Pro don't use that type of processor but maybe he knows how to fix it for the Diamond too.
I don't get why there isn't more interest in that thread, it seems one off the flaws of VoIP/Skype...
Cheers,
Cacti
There is a work around that I have found. If you turn the sound down on the phone to the absolute lowest without being muted (sometimes requiring the stylist depending on your Finger size ) Then put the phone up to your ear like normal and it is nice and quiet, you can still hear them, they can hear you and they hear no echo either.
The sound must be so low that there is just one bar highlighted with the second bar having a slight shadow over it. Anything higher and the person on the other end will hear echo.
or use this app: FRING
http://www.fring.com
fring doesn't work with the earpiece as well as far as I know... or?

Anyone else find the vibration horribly weak?

I havent actually taken my phone out of the house yet, so I dont have any actual experience with the vibration (having it in my pocket and seeing if i feel anything). But wow, it seems really weak to me.
Usually I can hear my phone vibrate against the table when im at home, but I cant hear anything from the X1 at all.
Do you guys frequently miss texts and calls because of the weak vibration? or is it actually decent and im just crazy?
nope vibration strong.

I find it pretty weak also..along with the horrible speaker position, I too miss texts and calls.
If it wasn't for the vibration i'd be screwed. The ringtones are so low compared to videos/games. I don't understand what's wrong with the ringtones! I'm playing an mp3 and it sounds like 5 times lower volume then when I play it in a media player...what gives?
Is the volume of your ringtone loud? Tend to find most custom ringtones don't have enough amplification.

I bump the volume up of my tones in Audacity
Well, bouth the vibration and speaker is as bad as the w880i. All ringtones that use anything but treble is crap. The vibration is better with pulse vibration. So i use Valert that i found here at xda.

Does it change the SMS vibration as well as the incoming call vibration? I just want the SMS really, I don't mind my calls going to voicemail.
hmm I'm just using a regular mp3, but the thing is if I play it through coreplayer or the media panel it sounds a lot louder then when I have it set to a ringtone. Should I really have to increase the volume of a regular mp3? It's just going to distort it. I think it's mostly the speaker placement as it is easily covered.

I download valert and installed it to my phone. however, i can't find the program in the program list of the phone. Can you tell me how to execute this program or least where do i find/run the program from ?
On first install it puts the EXE in the Autostart folder, you can find it here, but it should be running automatically on every boot.
Weak?
Damn, when my X1 rings I feel like I just bought one of those machines you stand on and it vibrates your whole body for exercise.
The loudness depends on file.
I have one which is TERRIBLY loud.

Call sound: great, but volume very high

Hi all,
The call quality of the HD2 is very good. Reception is great, people understand me very well and I can understand them very good.
My only problem is that the sound is so loud, when I'm using my phone at my ear (so without speaker or bluetooth).
Do you have this as well? Is there somewhere a master volume that can be set?
To be clear: the volume is already at the minimum...
Thanks!
Koen
Does the earpiece speaker also pop/crackle somtimes when the tones are high or very loud? I hear a ticking in the earpiece speaker.. that is very anoying!
Will probably swap my device for a new one.
Not really.
But as I find it now too loud, I don't like to use to make normal phonecalls.
Koen
I have the same problem..
One weird thing though, it's only on outgoing calls, incoming the sound isnt too loud!
i had the same problem but only with outgoing calls an mine sounded terrible, still does( think my speaker is broken)
You can edit the registry.
in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\Soundcategories\ you have INCALL and INCALL 2, i think one is ingoing and one is outgoing calls.
Edit Initvol, i have both mine on 2 now. and the volume is much better!

Thanks, now it's great!!!
I've got the exact same thing!
The quality is great, but sometimes the volume is just way too loud, almost up to the point where it hurts my ear.
One additional thing is when I get a notification on the background that a message has arrived during one of those loud calls, volume actually switches back to normal.
In my registry incall2 was set to 5. Resetted it to 2, hope it works
could anyone clarify
Where can I find that
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\Soundcategories\ you have INCALL and INCALL 2 thing. Please help! How do I enter registry?

Not sure if I did a soft-reset, but you might just give it a shot.
Both outgoing and incoming call volumes are now fine on my device...
[edit]
Actually got another loud outgoing call..
When I took a better look at the inCall and inCall2 properties, they seem to be for the notifications you get when you're in a call.
So changing them to '2' is OK, but doesn't actually solve this issue.
It may be an explanation to why my sound swapped back to normal after receiving a notification though.

Tried a soft reset too, but my ears still hurt! Any other suggestions?
This is totally unacceptable, has nobody got a cure for this? I can't use my *phone* as a phone, the volume is deafening! Both speakerphone and earpiece are way too loud, even on the lowest volume setting.
try this one
Here's a solution : you need to use the Schapman advanced configuration tool v3.3 (freeware).
Go to "HTC audio manager" -> set "music volume" (or something close, I don't know of it is labelled in english, I only have the french version) to 30 or above (below 100, which is the maximum) and then soft reset your device.

I can't seem to get this to do the trick. Is there anyone out there who has used a program to specifically lower the earpiece and speakerphone volume on their HD2 'Leo'? I'm going to have to return my handset if I can't lower the volume. I love the phone but if I can't make calls on it it's useless!
*bump*
This needs keeping near the top as it's a MASSIVE problem. Doesn't *everyone* find their HD2 far too loud??
It happened to me only once, when I woke up, press power button to get the screen on and dialed a cab, it was way too much loud.
Today I made some calls, received them as well, and it was ok.

Does anyone have a link to the part of the site where these supposed hotfixes will be....and how long will they be coming, any ideas? So far it's the speakerphone & earpiece volume which are of the utmost importance for me, then the pink camera etc etc etc.

[Q] low volume in call

I have this problem.
when im in conversation, the volume is very low. but when im listening to music is much higher.
does anyone have this problem as well?
I know its not a reception problem, since i've tried to talk from same place to the same number (which is land line) with WM and with ANDROID.
I am experiencing the same problem. Maybe we need an Audio Gain driver.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I think in general Android in call volume is low.
I also experience this with Nexus One.
I did install WOW SRS on the HD2 WM rom and it seems to increase the volume of Android running on it.
Can someone confirm this on their devices?
do you feel diffrent in android as well or only in WM?
for me its low only in incoming calls but its good in outgoing calls, any idea why ? people said it a wenn known issue in android and has been solved here , i search a lot with no luck .

Same problem for me too.
I've noticed a similar problem with loudspeaker too, but in this case, disabling and enabling the loudspeaker during the call usually solves the problem.

You must have the ringer on. The rule of thumb is this.
If the speaker is on (playing something) when a call is made/received. There is low volume in call.
50/50 when you are dialing out. You have the dial touch tone disabled or there was enough time for the speaker to re-gain control (<---?) and thus the call volume is good.
I am praying this issue gets fix pronto.. ... I live in a very very noisy city and I can barely hear the earpiece.

well, my problem is in both calls, the volume for it is lower than WM volume
I guess there is no solution for it for now, might be better later (hopefully).
During the call turn speaker on then off real quick this will raise the volume for you
Hello
A simple solution that worked for me was... Settings>Sound Then turn off audible touch tones. Got this from another member the other day.
