GController to replace D-Pad - Touch HD General

Has anyone use this app on their HD to simulate the key presses for a D-Pad.

Seems like this would work well for the HD !

more hardware buttons needed

Hi all.
I have various games that need more hardware buttons than the athena has.
Is there any way of using the keyboard as extra hardware buttons through add on software or mapping of some kind? (I really miss worms!).
Thanks in advance.
Sean
I was able to map some keyboard keys using AE Button. Some buttons map ok and others yield unpredictible results.
I'm not using AE Button for games but I can bring up Agenda Fusion with no problem using the "OK" Button

Key mapping of none soft keys

Hello,
since yesterday I am a proud owner of the x1i (from tmobile in germany).
Some months ago in pre-reviews there was a hw button on the left side and as far as I understand it was written that it is possible to configure the functionality to it (like screen rotating).
But know, I see that there is no button on the left side, there is just a small sent with the size of a hw button
Because I have installed the touch flow 3d I does currently not need the panels. So my idea is to configure the panel button to rotate the screen.
But I was disappointed because it is only allowed to configure both softkeys but I want to use them for left/right menu usage.
So my question:
It is possible (patch, registry tweak) to configure the other hardware buttons like:
- Panel
- Camera
- Hang up button
Normal press / long press (hold) to other thinks like:
- Screen rotating?
- etc.?
any idea?
best regards,
stefan
Hi stefan,
a lot of people are truying, but up to now without success, as I can read.
I too miss more buttons, but knew this before buying. I have my own WAD2-UI and this is compensating this with full finger touch possibilities.
I have got another question. Is it possible to key map the qwerty keyboard? for example take a qwerty keyboard and make it qwertz and perhaps change special characters and replace them with special characters of your "national" keyboard?
I found a solution in an other thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441191
There is a link to aebplus program, with this program you can configure every hardware button how you like and it can do even more, you can configure up to 4 functions on one hardware button:
- Simple press
- 2 pressed
- 3 presses
- long press

Where have you read? Do tell.
AEBPlus Work Perfectly
I've tried and AEBPlus work on my Xperia perfectly just like in Touch Pro. Single, double, triple and long press all work flawlessly. Going to buy this wonderful app now
And somewhere else the author of aebutton plus explaind why he cannot access the "Panel" Button. He was saying that this dedicated Panel button is to deep integrated into the system on "driver" level (if I remember correctly).

has anyone found some software to edit the softkeys ? i'd rather not have to edit the registry ...
i appear to have different entries for my softkeys in my standard windows today screen and also in my tf3d home screen, none of which i seem to be able to update.
AE Button Plus
AE Button Plus works just fine on the X1.
The 'dent' you mention on the side, as far as I can tell is purely a finger rest for when you are using the camera.

Gestures on buttons

Hi,
I do not own Touch HD, so I cannot test, but the button area bellow should be touch sensitive. Why did not somebody used it as D-pad? Dragging up/down left/righ as the GScroll (http://www.mobilesrc.com/GScroll.aspx) for Diamond? It is not possible to detect different touch positions on the same button so with only one row of buttons there is no way how to do up/down gestures?
Thanks you for your explanation, Jan
very good idea, i'll check !
edit : doesn't works somebody to code it ?
I've tryed it, not working for me on my HD (black pearl light rom) , but an app like that should be the missing part for HD.
This is a FANTASTIC idea.
Anyone willing to give it a shot and code it?
I don't think this is possible, because those "touch sensitive buttons" aren't capacitive buttons, they are just normal button much more sensitive than usual. You can see it your self by pressing them with the stylus: it works, and it wouldn't if they were capacitive.
for sure the button are not capacitive i did the same test too and few more
i think the "button" are a simple touch screen extra area
look at the attached image of the touch screen replacement part.
i think that all the button area could be remapped as wished..
Using Magic mobile or AEbuttons you can remap key to simulate Dpad, i've put up and down to double tap volume, left to double hang up, right to double hang off, center to double backspace, done it with mobilemagic. Give it a try.

For me this is not good replacement, on real D-pad I can press and hold, for instance quick rewind/forward on player. You cannot do that with key remapping.
If it is possible to follow gestures, you can move left a hold to simulate D-pad left key hold.
I don't think the buttons are "capacitive" (as on iPhone), but the button area is touch sensitive as the rest of the display - see the image. So it in theory should be possible to use this area to capture stylus or finger touches. I don't think I am the first one with this idea. It seems to be that there are some obstacles.

Does Pocketnester work with Dash 3G Trackball?

Hi guys I just upgraded my Dash to 3g. I installed pocketnester and when I play mario the only way he walks or runs is to keep scrolling the trackball. Can I use the trackball with pocketnester or do I have to assign buttons? Is there any other emulator out there that may support a trackball or a application to edit the trackball? Before I purchased I thought that if you just hold the trackball in one direction the object will keep moving. Thanks
The trackball actually emulates standard directional key presses. 2 or 3 quick swipes (configurable via the trackball control panel) will trigger "repeat mode".
The Snap is unfortunately a poor choice for emulation, unless you can remap the directional keys to keyboard keys.
bubble's right -- The trackball just emulates rapid directional button presses. However, you CAN assign the NES d-pad directions to keyboard buttons on the Snap/Dash 3G, as I have, and it's not bad. You may have to remap depending on the game you play, but it's not that hard. I play NES games on my Dash 3G constantly, and I don't have any control issues.
If you want to try the trackball, however, you CAN assign buttons to it. It's nearly unplayable, though.

Could you provide some details on how to assign buttons? Also, what emulator are you using?
Many thanks.

It's a completley different phone by Motorola I don't think he read that you do currently already own a Desire Z
Are you talking about an alternate touchscreen keyboard? Of the more popular ones on the Market, Thumb Keyboard is the only one that seems to have arrow keys. The arrow key layout reminds me of the old stock HTC touchscreen keyboard on Windows Mobile devices.
But why not just use the optical trackpad to move the cursor, instead of clogging up screen real estate with arrow keys?
You could map 4 buttons to up/down/left/right. Maybe the 2 program buttons, the extra shift, and the search? Do a search for key mapper, it's been posted here before.

Or maybe help "Z Arrow" app on market ...
'Keyboard from Android 2.3' is free from the Market and has arrow keys that 'collapse' in and out when you need them by holding the spacebar key and dragging up to activate, or down to deactivate. Screen real estate is preserved when you don't need them plus i reckon the gingerbread keyboard is pretty impressive in itself.

Smart Keyboard Pro has an option (its off by default) to turn on a dpad/arrow. Works good.
if you want it on the physical keyboard you can do what i did and use button remapper to change shortcute keys 1 and 2 to left and right, work so much better for terminal then the track pad.
