I've installed Slingplayer Mobile 1.1 on my Ameo and am quite disappointed with the resolution. I expected something much better looking than my QVGA iPAQ, but it looks about the same. Anyone know why? Of course, I'm running 1.0 on the iPAQ - should I drop back to 1.0 on the Ameo?
Also, when in landscape mode, the video starts full screen and there's no way to get to the remote control - only way to exit is to physically click the OK button on the device. Anyone else faced this?
Thanks,
Krip
I'm pretty happy with it.
tap very bottom left corner of screen, brings up menu, so you can exit etc

My resolution on the HTC advantage is also terrible. Picture looks really bad compared to my htc TYTN. On the tytn the picture is clear as day.
Can some more members with Advantage compare screens or at least post some high resolution photos?

What are your settings on the Encoding tab of Player Options? Do you have "Enable SlingStream optimization" checked?
-Krip
Just did a default install.
Enable SlingStream optimazation is checked, medium action.
I'm not saying that mine is better quality than yours, just that I find it acceptable.
Imagine if you stuck the tytn screen under a magnifying glass to make it 4x the size, am sure it would look more blocky.

Well I don't know about tytn but I'm going from a QVGA device to a VGA one so expect 4X clarity and then degrading for larger physical screen. In other words I get far superior resolution when viewing on my PC so would expect some improvement from QVGA to VGA move. Unless the Mobile Player is crippled...

My SlingPlayer works fine also. I installed it yesterday and got it up and running and it looks great. Was watching Deal or No Deal while eating at my favorite Italian restaurant.

The Menu Icon are now OK but the PIOs one still too small
TomTom 7 Build 9028 = normal icons
Build 9030 = small icons.
At least, that was my experience.

Could you please write your version? THX
P.S. Mine is 7.450 (9028) and everything is smaller than it was on the Trinity...
I experienced the same thing - moved from 9028 to 9030 and the icons shrunk.
Actually I got so pissed off with TomTom customer services that I am now trying out iGO8 and probably wont go back to TomTom. They are soooo greedy.
I have now bought 3 different maps for my Diamond and only one works (and its not the one I wanted in the first place!) I also paid the traffic subscription and it wont work with any of the maps I have. Now Tomtom are refusing to refund me on the other maps or even do some kind of exchange. Not the kind of customer service I expect and certainly not what is needed to retain custom!!!
I vote with my feet!!!

I've got the 7.450 (9028)
All is OK exepted the POI icon which still very (too) small
Got no problem what so ever with the 7.450 build 9028.
Everything works great and the icons are just normal.
I thing we can change the Icon size in a config file .... I will have a look...
Why not contact TomTom about this? I have seen a working VGA version of TT7 Build 9030. But I can't tell if there is a legal version of it.
The icons are not small, there are actually the same size as you have on your Trinity, or any other qVGA device for that matter. They look smaller because the Diamond has a VGA resolution.
So if you have a qVGA version on your device you should contact TT that you bought an incompatible verision. Some Diamonds are even shipped with TT7 (Build 9028 if I'm correct.) There are enough links to legal CAB's floating around on XDA
I have 9028 build and this is suposed VGA version.
All is OK with the "VGA Version" except the POI Icons....
I am running build 9028 and icons ARE small.
Even map is smaller than the navigator 6 on my Touch Cruise.
Any solution?
I noticed that some of the menus (e.g. choose what to show on the "homescreen") is normal size and the next menu is small.
Wierd....
what about some sceenshots instead of talking of "small" and "normal"?
I had a problem with custom cursors being small on TT7(9028). I just resized the bitmap and it worked.

I also tried changing the bitmap size but TomTom 7 just reverted back to the standard blue arrow, what size did you increase it to?
I'm using tomtom 7.450 (9028) cant complain much i looks great, fantastic res on screen
everything is smaller as its a very small screen however i can see a lot of the map on screen.
i'm using the 7.20 UK maps as tomtom only sell the euro map for the htc, it eats up a large chunk of the storage.
i already owned the 7.20 UK maps (much smaller about 120MB) for a TT PNA device and works great with a few tweeks (wink, wink,).

Hey guys,
i love the design of the new HTC touch HD. But whats about the mainstream VGA-Software? Will that work on this WVGA-Device?
Greetings,
nick007
Nick, good point, asking myself, too. In the past WinMobile apps scaled well to larger resolutions, so I hope with this step it will be the same.
had the same Q..
so take look here http://www.portegeclub.com/forum/ at te 3rd Party Software
the Toshiba Portege G900 as the same screen res.
some apps will not fit the whole screen ...
but most of famous and valiueable apps will fit to 800x480
I think about all the nice freeware like Total Commander, TCPMP, iContact, and so on ...
I hope, they have no probs with 480*800.
For the Toshiba Portage (WVGA-Screen), there is a software called "WVGAFIX".
Look at http://www.portegeclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=628
If somebody can write this software for the Touch HD, all VGA-Software should be run normaly ...
VGA on HD
Have tried installing stuff on my HD and all works , vito contacts, skype, power sms etc all ok, only problem i had , and its only a small one, was with MEMORY MAP , it works ok,the maps look greart, but the bottom of the screen with the zoom icon etc is a bit corrupted, can still see and use them ok, but not quiet spot on.
TOMTOM 6 and 7 work, check which versions on other threads, and with gsen it works great in landscape too !
Google maps is really fast and again looks great on that big fat screen !!!!
overall im really impressed with the phone and coming from a TYTN II thats no mean feat .
If you are thinking of getting one....Do it !
Yes a great deal of software runs without any problems whatsoever.
For a quite extensive list of HD compatible software check this if you haven't:

memory map fix
memory map works fine, the dodgy icons along the bottom are not actually caused by any res probs...... its the standars htd black today theme, to fix i did this
i downloaded a random black tsk them file and put it in windows
click settings/ today, choose the new black theme...
you can test this by choosing any of the defaults such as guavva bubbles or windows mobile green, but if course u want black still so search google for black today theme / tsk file
hope i help someone cheers
So indeed the UK model is available in the Netherlands, just got mine.
My first impressions:
- The device actually feels smaller than I thought, feels only slightly heavier than my Diamond and much lighter than my Pro.
- The screen sensitivity for my finger is great, however it seems that I have to press harder with the stylus than on my Diamond.
- I cannot prevent touchflo 3D from installing, softresetting before customisation brings the device back in setup mode.
- The screen and the size of the buttons are great for finger usage.
- The device is faster than my Diamond and Pro, Touchflo 3D is really improved in terms of speed, however there is a lag when using the file explorer I didn't had on my previous devices.
- I really like the small led in the power button, indicating charching, bluetooth, etc. No more irritating charching lights from the action button when the device is next to my bed.
- All software I installed on my Diamond works on my HD (Spb products, Mobipocket, Pocketbreeze.)
- Did not test the GPS
- There is a soft bag for protection of the HD. The good is that it doesn't make the device much thicker. The bad is that it will not provide much protection (but it is included!!)
- The device comes with a 8GB microSD card (Sandisk.)
- The HD can be used in the HTC cradle, but without the special inlays, so a bit risky for the connector.
- No video-out (not in settings.)
- The full QWERTY on screen keyboard is better than on my Diamond, but still small and not as responsive to touch as I would want (I am used to my Iphone ;-))
Overall I think it is one of the best devices I have had for the last two years (a bit early to tell, but... first impression)
Can you tell us how vga apps work? Do they get stretched to fill the screen or are there black bars on top and bottom. I am talking about apps with no WVGA support.
Thanks!
Great post! I'm really looking forward to finding out how people get along with the HD. It's number one on my list of devices to replace my Touch.
please oh please try to play a divx movie thats perhaps the only thing that will make me sell my diamond i was used to see movies on my x7500 diamond sucks on plaaying video
yeah please try coreplayer/tcpmp with divx/xvid movies tell us the results!!

All apps I tried so far just scale to fill the screen.
It looks great!
The apps even look better than on my X7500!
After tweaking some performance settings and after installing 10 apps, this baby is fast!!!
Everything is almost instantanously, never seen this on a HTC device before (and I have had a lot ;-))
if you tell me it plays divx flawlessly ill put my diamond for sale right now hehehe
Any comments about audio quality through the 3.5mm plug. Also does the cradle have audio out (through usb of the device)?

The audio quality through the headset is great, its roughly the same as the Diamond, good bass, etc.
No sound through USB though, so no music through the cradle.
Looks great in the cradle though ;-)
OK, good news,
TomTom navigator 7 is working perfectly.
Better, no GPS lag (inside, because it is raining terribly here).
And look at Mobile Shell
This really is HTC's best device in years!!!
How does the sound compare with your iphone?
That cradle is huge, does it come with the package?
You have really kept up with all the PPC since the black and white days! Do you keep all of them or have you sold and upgraded throught he decade?

To be honest, the sound of both the Diamond and HD is much better than the sound of my Iphone, the sound is....more alive, more bass, etc.
I really like my Iphone and used it together with my Diamond for more than 3 months, and last month I mentioned that I was only using my Iphone. It is so much easier to use and the screen is really great.
But beside the UI, I think the HD beats the Iphone in a lot of aspects.
You have to buy the cradle seperately, it is a bit huge, yes.
I think I am an addict..... I kept some, not all, I am not that rich ;-))
tomtom
I also received my touch hd today! a great device, the big screen is really lovely.
I can't seem to make tomtom 7 working though. Wich cab did you use? I get the error message that it is not compatible with my device.
Thanks
Johnkorver,
It is indeed a good news that there is no lag in GPS
HTC Touch Diamond + HTC X7500 + Iphone 16 GB White + HTC Touch HD
Your collection is awesome
It was to good to be true...
I found a bug; the rollout menu's (don't know how to call it) do not work on non standard programs.
I had this bug also on my Samsung i780 with a 320x320 pixel screen.
You can select the different items using the keyboard though.
Look at the screenshot to see what I mean; I selected the main window menu.
hi johnkorver , what about 3g reception and system speaker related to diamond ? thnx

Finding out right now.
tried to put the Diamond battery in the HD.....
I have recently upgraded from the HTC Kaiser to the HTC Touch HD.
Before I switched to the HD I had TT7_910.9185 installed on my Kaiser and it worked perfectly.
After upgrading to the HD I tried installing the same 'TT7_910.9185_SIGNED.htc_diamond_cracked' cab that I had previously used on my Kaiser but it wouldn't install. Eventually though I found another version that did. This version was 'TT7_910.9185_QVGA blue'.
Since installing this new file onto my HD I have noticed that TomTom runs far slower that it used to on the Kaiser (ie. the graphics are more jerky!).
Is there is anything I can do to make the program run more smooth?
Maybe if anyone can point me to a different installation cab?
The problem is not linked to the map because I am using the same UK and Ireland 8.15.2024 map that I used to use on the Kaiser... The problem is also not linked to lack of storage space because there is plenty of space remaining on my SD card.
Also, Does anybody know if it is possible to flip the screen in TT7 on the HD?
Thanks in advance.

I can't help you with the speed issue.
But to rotate the screen via the accelerometer, you can use third-party freeware like Gsen or Gyrator.
Cheers Chris Cross.

Try version VGA black. I've got this one and it's alright.

the fps of tomtom on the HD is a lot slower than the kaiser when comparing the two side by side. this is due to the screen resolution.

Exactly true. This is why to get the best performance from TT on the HD use the VGA Black cab and use less POIs. It will also be faster if you use it in 2D mode. You could also try u

Use the good cab VGA Black, decrease the POIs, consider using it in 2D, maybe install the SD card speed fix in the HD Wiki of this site and disable Activesync from dragging down the system.
cheers Matterhorn...
