I have recently upgraded from the HTC Kaiser to the HTC Touch HD.
Before I switched to the HD I had TT7_910.9185 installed on my Kaiser and it worked perfectly.
After upgrading to the HD I tried installing the same 'TT7_910.9185_SIGNED.htc_diamond_cracked' cab that I had previously used on my Kaiser but it wouldn't install. Eventually though I found another version that did. This version was 'TT7_910.9185_QVGA blue'.
Since installing this new file onto my HD I have noticed that TomTom runs far slower that it used to on the Kaiser (ie. the graphics are more jerky!).
Is there is anything I can do to make the program run more smooth?
Maybe if anyone can point me to a different installation cab?
The problem is not linked to the map because I am using the same UK and Ireland 8.15.2024 map that I used to use on the Kaiser... The problem is also not linked to lack of storage space because there is plenty of space remaining on my SD card.
Also, Does anybody know if it is possible to flip the screen in TT7 on the HD?
Thanks in advance.

I can't help you with the speed issue.
But to rotate the screen via the accelerometer, you can use third-party freeware like Gsen or Gyrator.
Cheers Chris Cross.
Can anyone help me with the speed issue?
Try version VGA black. I've got this one and it's alright.

the fps of tomtom on the HD is a lot slower than the kaiser when comparing the two side by side. this is due to the screen resolution.

Exactly true. This is why to get the best performance from TT on the HD use the VGA Black cab and use less POIs. It will also be faster if you use it in 2D mode. You could also try u

Use the good cab VGA Black, decrease the POIs, consider using it in 2D, maybe install the SD card speed fix in the HD Wiki of this site and disable Activesync from dragging down the system.
cheers Matterhorn...
is the 'good' VGA Black cab the one lipa47 posted a link to in this thread?

So indeed the UK model is available in the Netherlands, just got mine.
My first impressions:
- The device actually feels smaller than I thought, feels only slightly heavier than my Diamond and much lighter than my Pro.
- The screen sensitivity for my finger is great, however it seems that I have to press harder with the stylus than on my Diamond.
- I cannot prevent touchflo 3D from installing, softresetting before customisation brings the device back in setup mode.
- The screen and the size of the buttons are great for finger usage.
- The device is faster than my Diamond and Pro, Touchflo 3D is really improved in terms of speed, however there is a lag when using the file explorer I didn't had on my previous devices.
- I really like the small led in the power button, indicating charching, bluetooth, etc. No more irritating charching lights from the action button when the device is next to my bed.
- All software I installed on my Diamond works on my HD (Spb products, Mobipocket, Pocketbreeze.)
- Did not test the GPS
- There is a soft bag for protection of the HD. The good is that it doesn't make the device much thicker. The bad is that it will not provide much protection (but it is included!!)
- The device comes with a 8GB microSD card (Sandisk.)
- The HD can be used in the HTC cradle, but without the special inlays, so a bit risky for the connector.
- No video-out (not in settings.)
- The full QWERTY on screen keyboard is better than on my Diamond, but still small and not as responsive to touch as I would want (I am used to my Iphone ;-))
Overall I think it is one of the best devices I have had for the last two years (a bit early to tell, but... first impression)
Can you tell us how vga apps work? Do they get stretched to fill the screen or are there black bars on top and bottom. I am talking about apps with no WVGA support.
Thanks!
Great post! I'm really looking forward to finding out how people get along with the HD. It's number one on my list of devices to replace my Touch.
please oh please try to play a divx movie thats perhaps the only thing that will make me sell my diamond i was used to see movies on my x7500 diamond sucks on plaaying video
yeah please try coreplayer/tcpmp with divx/xvid movies tell us the results!!
also if possible try some H264 (mp4 AVC) encoded videos

All apps I tried so far just scale to fill the screen.
It looks great!
The apps even look better than on my X7500!
After tweaking some performance settings and after installing 10 apps, this baby is fast!!!
Everything is almost instantanously, never seen this on a HTC device before (and I have had a lot ;-))
if you tell me it plays divx flawlessly ill put my diamond for sale right now hehehe
Any comments about audio quality through the 3.5mm plug. Also does the cradle have audio out (through usb of the device)?

The audio quality through the headset is great, its roughly the same as the Diamond, good bass, etc.
No sound through USB though, so no music through the cradle.
Looks great in the cradle though ;-)
OK, good news,
TomTom navigator 7 is working perfectly.
Better, no GPS lag (inside, because it is raining terribly here).
And look at Mobile Shell
This really is HTC's best device in years!!!
How does the sound compare with your iphone?
That cradle is huge, does it come with the package?
You have really kept up with all the PPC since the black and white days! Do you keep all of them or have you sold and upgraded throught he decade?

To be honest, the sound of both the Diamond and HD is much better than the sound of my Iphone, the sound is....more alive, more bass, etc.
I really like my Iphone and used it together with my Diamond for more than 3 months, and last month I mentioned that I was only using my Iphone. It is so much easier to use and the screen is really great.
But beside the UI, I think the HD beats the Iphone in a lot of aspects.
You have to buy the cradle seperately, it is a bit huge, yes.
I think I am an addict..... I kept some, not all, I am not that rich ;-))

I also received my touch hd today! a great device, the big screen is really lovely.
I can't seem to make tomtom 7 working though. Wich cab did you use? I get the error message that it is not compatible with my device.
Thanks
Johnkorver,
It is indeed a good news that there is no lag in GPS
HTC Touch Diamond + HTC X7500 + Iphone 16 GB White + HTC Touch HD
Your collection is awesome
It was to good to be true...
I found a bug; the rollout menu's (don't know how to call it) do not work on non standard programs.
I had this bug also on my Samsung i780 with a 320x320 pixel screen.
You can select the different items using the keyboard though.
Look at the screenshot to see what I mean; I selected the main window menu.
hi johnkorver , what about 3g reception and system speaker related to diamond ? thnx

Guys is there a way to fix the really TINY kepyad in TT7? i tried TT6 and have the same problem??
i had the same issue with xperia
I have exactly the same problem - not much help I know but at least you know it's not just you
You need the VGA version of Tomtom.
i have the vga version cab it doesnt work, only the qvga version works
There are several variants of the V7 cab, some of which are for VGA devices and will install on the HD. Check the other threads regarding Tomtom for the correct CAB.
Is the 7.910.985 vga cab the correct one to use on the HD?
Yes it is.
I went through that problem. Version 7.450.9028 doesn't matter if it's qvga or vga has got a tiny keyboard. You have to use 7.910.9185 VGA and keyboard is perfect in that version.
BUT!!! That version is a lot slower that 7.450.9028
So, there is no perfect sollution Good looking or good working
a lot slower in what sense? In the FPS? In the response time? In the lag?
Looks like FPS but it also causes lag
Hi guys.
Today I had the occasion to play with a Touch Diamond 2.
Has anyone noticed how speedy Diamond 2 is compared to Touch HD running Dutty 3.0 XT?
Probably is around 2-3 times faster in any operation.
Opera starts around 5 times faster than on my HD running dutty 3.0.
I was shocked to see the difference in speed between these 2 devices.
opera loads instantly with push internet on on the hd which is probably the case on the diamond!

I second this notion. Opera loads instantly for me because of this (I have the actual Push thngy turned off, just use it to have Opera load instantly)
Enabling Push Internet just leaves Opera running permanently in the background... You can have that without using push internet: Just don't exit Opera, leave it open! It's available immediately then...
Well...thx...I didn't knew the stuff with push internet but it wasn't just Opera.
Also zoom ana pan inside Opera is a lot faster when rendering pages than on my HD with dutty 3. Both devices runs Opera 9.5 build 16277.
All other things were faster. I noticed for example that the clock that flips when the minute change was also much faster than on my HD.
For me this is a big surprise since these devices have the same platform.(CPU, RAM, ROM, screen resolution etc).
Maybe because D2 has better driver support for its GPU?
No idea to be honest.
Have you tried installing the "GraphPack.zip" package (or the OpenVG drivers from Neo's cab) from the thread below?
Dutty's V3 doesn't include these (Touch-IT roms from Itje on the X1 did), and they do help with the graphics speed to an extent.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496528
Nope....I'll try your suggestion...thx

you can activate it with a cab. dutty put it in his addon applications. the right one is named "Duttys Enable Push Internet.cab"
wrong post..
Once you open Opera and then close it, it remains minimized until you close Manila. That's at least my experience. The new Opera version, available in the latest HD stock ROM, opens way faster than the former version available on 1.14 ROMs.
However, maybe there are updated drivers in the TD2 stock ROM. Hardwarewise they are the same, except for the larger screensize of the HD and the absence of the zoom bar on the latter.
check my sig for an opengl test app and let us know what numbers you get for 3d operations!
hello,
i've got tomtom 7 installed on my HD2 but the keyboard is extremely small. any idea how to fix that? changing in to large in preferences doesn't make any difference, it's about the size of the status bar on the bottom. the same version of tomtom on my i-mate 9502 works fine. any ideas? thanks.
Make room for a small one
Ironic as it sounds but go into your settings and change the keyboard to smal... its the same on the HD from what I can remember.. If it dont wok dont flame me as I dont own either device but did this on my mates HD and it worked ;-)
didn't work for me.
You need wvga version instead of qvga
I have tomtom 7.916 and the keyboard is perfect. Maybe you have an old tomtom version ?
I have found by using the BSB tweeks mod and enable the TOM TOM Prog to turn to landscape when you turn phone, the keyboard is made much much bigger
thanks for your replies.
small keyboard is the same as large, doesn't matter what i chose.
also, i don't know where i can get the wvga version as the only one i've got is the qvga.
i have tomtom 7.450 which is not newest but it worked fine on my vga screen in i-mate 9502.
I have a cab for 7.9 but it won't acknowledge my perfectly legal map.

We're not allowed to post links to warez sites, but if you were to look at the usual suspect ppc web sites I'm sure there are ways to activate your maps
As far as I know TomTom don't officially support the HD2 yet, but there are ways around this. If you have a legit map and legit TomTom software I personally don't have any issues with you using an alternative source for your downloads.

I'll try to check tomorrow; along with Slingplayer, Mobile Shell, Calendar Touch, Coreplayer, HiCalc... Just a question of whether developers think WM6.5 HVGA or WP7 devices will be the biggest market over the next few months.
