MS hotfix for SMTP not needed for HD - Touch HD General

In case you are wondering if you need to install the hotfix Microsoft released yesterday for the deadly SMTP "bug" in WinMobile: You don't need it, since HD has 6.1.4, and patch is only needed for up to 6.1.3 . Only remedy until now was hardreset, for pre-HD.
Link to MS hotfix page: http://bit.ly/Kv5b
This behavior is associated with a feature that was introduced in Windows Mobile 6.1. It provides a way for users to send e-mail through an alternate outbound e-mail server provided by their mobile operator in the event that the default outbound e-mail server becomes inaccessible.
The problem occurs if a mobile operator doesn't use this feature, and therefore doesn't supply a value for the alternate SMTP address. When the mobile device fails on any attempt to connect to the e-mail provider's default SMTP server, Windows Mobile 6.1 automatically loads the value for the alternate SMTP server—which in this case is blank. The e-mail account configuration details are then corrupted, which results in loss of the ability to send e-mail with that particular e-mail account.
With this fix, the feature is patched to ensure that Windows Mobile 6.1 takes appropriate action when it detects a blank value for the Alternate SMTP server.

TT and Garmin did work, but now not getting gps fix, advice please.

hi there
i just want to make clear that the smtp bug is NOT fixed on WM 6.1.4 . I recently bought the HD
and it has like mentioned before
WM 6.1.4.0 running on it, but still i cannot send emails,
it wont connect with the smtp server. Can anyone tell me wether an un-
official fix is available for the smtp bug on WM 6.1.4.0?
i looked everywhere but found nothing.
thanx in advance

same problem
6.1.4 is not fixed, smtp fails... and you can't install the fix that works only until 6.1.3
please help, I tried anything but I can't find any good tip or patch around..
thanks

I do a lot of email on my HD, before with SMTP. But I prefer Push (receiving email on my HD automatically), so if your provider supports Imap maybe Imap Pusher Service is for you:
http://www.codeplex.com/ImapPusherService
The program is no longer supported, and has a bug freezing it when it cannot connect to the server for a prolongued time (no signal), but it works fine in major coverage areas. I use it with Gmail and German GMX.

Well, since the bug is basically that your operator has not set a secondary SMTP server in the registry, maybe this reg entry suggested by ButtonBoy from this forum here could help you.
1. Add the reg key “Operator” to \\HKLM\System\Inbox\Settings
2. Add the reg key "OutgoingServer" below Operator key.
3. Add the reg val (reg_str) "OutgoingServer" below Operator key- “127.0.0.1”
4. Soft reset
Of course this is not a working SMTP server, but maybe your Outlook Mobile will be happy with it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2776411&postcount=83

I tried buttonboy fix...
doesn't work
smtp settings from my provider are:
incoming:
mail.xxx.com ssl activated
smtp:
smtp.xxx.com ssl activated
username and password different from incoming

Ok, just to make sure, and since the smtp/imap bug corrupts your mail account and settings, did you try the buttonboy fix with a new mail account, not an already corrupted one I hope.
The Outlook Mobile team on the blog says its working on a fix for the fix, but only covering problems with the initial fix not being validated by a certificate on the mobile. Doubt this will cover problems you have.
In the meantime, maybe you could try out Flexmail trial client as an alternative to Outlook Mobile messaging.

thanks...
I'm trying flexmail
my provider told me that maybe the bug it's depending on their server not running windows but linux.

[WiFi] POP3 e-mail doesn't work

I can connect my device to the in-house Wlan and I get assigned an IP address like it should. I am able to browse the net (IE) using the Wlan and I can even go to the HTTP webmail site but when I set up a POP3 e-mail account I get the error message that I cannot connect with the current settings. Suggestions?
The other strange thing is that I am able to login on a local server using Terminal Services, but I can only connect to the IP address, not the hostname.
Perhaps I should mention that I have an own domain so the mailbox I'm trying to connect is a completely seperate mailbox and should work 'native' with POP3 port 25 settings. This shouldn't be a problem as far as I can see, but it still doesn't work...
I did some more testing, the weird thing is that I can send e-mails using the WLAN connection, but cannot receive them. The connection towards the server seems to be good (I didn't use seperate settings for SMTP) so DNS seems to be correct as well.
Right, I'm not under the impression a terribly large population of users are dying just to solve my problem, but since I located the source of the problem I thought I'd post it here for other users to find.
The problem I was faced with had actually nothing to do with the WiFi at all, it was the POP3 server that was the problem. The connection was fine, sending the mails was fine it's just that the POP3 daemon of the Direct Admin hosting control panel (vmpop3d-e) is unable to work with Windows Mobile 5 due to some kind of problem I don't even begin to understand (nor would I want to).
If you have your own domain and your hoster is running the Direct Admin control panel you won't be able to use the e-mail POP3 function. Instead, use the IMAP4 function which does work.
DA Forum PDA topic
when you set up your mailbox (menu - tools - options) go to the 3rd screen and click options. There you tell it what connection you want. I'd be willing to bet thats where your problem is.
E-mail client doesnt work on my wizard eather. I can receive mail, but sending it is impossibl. I think I tried everything.
If anyone have any suggestions what can I do please tell me.
THX
@primossz, you're pretty active on this forum
You need to first install the client software provided by your're ISP. So if you use T-mobile you can let T-mobile send the parameters via SMS to yor're cellphone. Just login to your're ISP provider for that on the WWW.
Greetz ET

can't connect to any POP3/SMTP site that requires the use of SSL.

I recently got this email from att yahoo:
Dear AT&T Yahoo! Member,
We're making some security improvements to your AT&T Yahoo! service. These changes will affect members who send or receive email from a desktop or mobile client program, such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, Eudora, Apple Mail, or Thunderbird.
To help us ensure the security of your email, you will need to change the settings on your desktop or mobile email client program.
you may take the following steps to change the settings on your desktop or mobile email client program:
Open your email client program.
Locate the email account settings for your particular client.
Change the POP server to pop.att.yahoo.com.
Change the SMTP server to smtp.att.yahoo.com.
Check the option labeled Use an encrypted connection (SSL) and change the SMTP port to 465.
Check the option labeled Use an encrypted connection (SSL) and change the POP3 port to 995.
Confirm the above settings then click OK.
I already tried my first comandment "Thou shalt not ask before search!" but alas I can't seem to find how to change ports on e-mail set up. I'm running wm6 but I don't know if wm5 had this abbilty as I didn't need it then. Any help would be great!
So, mabey I should have posted under wm6 & titled the post photon question. At the very least somebody would reply to flame me or something. lol
I had the same problem. Turned out to be the operator. They do not offer full Internet services, only WAP and unencrypted e-mail (i.e. no SSL). The problem sorted itself out after switching to another operator . . .
Add a colon then (port #, no spaces) after each in/Out server. That is how I have it set up with my 8525/ wm5
Thanks, I'll give that a shot. If not I guess I can open a hot mail account and forward email till att fixes the auto set up in August (per the "help" desk)

Problems with a mail acount on Diamond. POP3 receive working, SMTP send not working

Hy everybody, I have from two weeks already a HTC diamond, a beutiful phone with everything you need apart the up time.
I am not a noob in internet technologies, I am working with and on the net for more then 10 years already.
I configured on my phone a hotmail account, the easiest one, a yahoo account, a gmail account and another yahoo account and all work fine but my job mail account, the one I configured on a SE K850 with no difficulty is not working on this beautiful diamond.
Is a simple POP3/SMTP account on a private mail server and I have no problem configure it on any outlook, or outlook express on any computer. My colleagues has blackberry and i phones and works fine, i was the only stupid enough to buy a WM phone. Incoming is POP3 on 110 outgoing requires authentication SMTP on 25.
I tried to configure outlook I have on diamond is not working at all, i tried to configure it as a normal account receive is working, send is not working.
I tried to go in connections-advanced server settings-and to change connection (i have Internet, Work, Vodafone Live, Vodafone MMS and Vodafone Ro), is not working, i have an active internet connection, wap, i tried with WiFi active, without, the same result, receive ok, send it says "The message(s) could not be sent. check that you have network coverage and that your network coverage is correct. Then try sending again."
As the receive is working and the log in information for send is identical with the log in information for receive I think that the account information is correct.
So, where is the problem, can anybody help me? I would like to configure the outlook and (if possible) synchronize it with the one on my computer, it would be the best, but I don't know why I can't, and if outlook is not possible maybe I can get it to work as a regular mail account.
Please don't tell me to do something I did already.
Thanks,
Ionut
maybe a TCP view or TPC log would help me to find the problem.
TCP view or TPC log would help me to find the problem. Do you know any? I found a thread on it but still no answer. WX util is not working, i need something like TCP View.

I really don't like WM because is so opaque, is doing things but does them as he wants and not as you want. For example, why the hell when I am connected on a wifi connection is using my mobile internet connection to send and receive mails????
check the thread i posted in the Touch Pro forum. This was a common problem WM6.1 resulting from a new WM feature. Sometimes sending would work and sometimes not..
Anyway, microsoft recently published a patch for this..You can find the link in the thread below. It is meant for all WM6.1 devices
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444856
This did work for me by the way
Hi - I have a similar issue, but with gmail. Incoming works perfectly via imap, however outgoing emails do not work at all. I tried the patch mentioned above, changing outgoing smtp.gmail.com to smtp.gmail.com:465 or 587 and it still doesn't work. Also tried to create the account again to no avail.
I used the standard settings on gmail site https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78886 - dunno what I am missing here!! Any help would be nice
Hi people why don't yo read before posting, this is not the right thead...!!! please.

SMTP Bug on HD (WM 6.1.4)

Hello everybody,
As you know, many people experience a sever issue concerning sending an email (smtp server connection problems) via mobile devices in WM 6.1. However this has been resolved by an official patch recently released by microsoft.
But now, (the reason i'm opening a thread). Because the HTC HD has the newer WM 6.1.4 version, microsoft claims that this version did allready include the bugfix, and therefore the standalone patch will not install on these systems. Logically seen, Microsoft thus assumes that WM 6.1.4 doesn't need a patch. Too bad for them however (and for us), they were wrong. The bug is still not removed..as i'm still experiencing smtp connection problems.
I searched this whole forum for (a) solution(s), but the only thing i found is the fact that most people are just giving an explanation for the problem i and others undergo right now, not a solution. Thereby i'm asking, if anyone could come up with a solid answer to this problem.
Thank you.

Windows Mobile 6.1.4 still has the SMTP send mail bug
Talk about falling between the cracks! I have a Touch Hd on Orange UK and am totally unable to send email smtp. Of course, the patch does not apply to our version 6.14 , as it is not supposed to have the send email problem. Hah!
C'mon HTC HD users on 6.1.4, join up and post to this list, this is a MAJOR problem.
Have you tried the .cab suggested by this link :
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index.php/2008/10/15/windows-mobile-smtp-fix
I use AOL for my email and used to have the error message, but not after installing that .cab. (Install at your own risk)
same problem:
htc touch hd and win mobile aku 1.4
smtp fails, tried ANYTHING and the patch doesn't work on this version of win mobile.
please help!
I had this problem also.
Problem seems to be with smtp server access. I am on Orange UK and use the smtp.orange.net server to send email and it works fine. I can't use any other smtp server from my email accounts.
You may need to sign up for an orange email account as the smtp server requires authentication.
Hope this helps

i had same problem im on orange uk aswell, chucked in that smtp server and works perfect, no email needed and i didnt ticket the requires auth box and it works,, thanks alot maybe orange are blocking other smtps?
While they will release a fix for the fix at least for Blackjack owners, I'd recommend to keep hammering their team blog in order to raise awareness of the problems you have:

I think Orange are possibly blocking the smtp access as you say.
Anyway, smtp.orange.net has saved the day
I don't have orange, i'm using the universities webmail server. I really can't fix the problem, this is frustrating me.

Multiple smtp email addresses in Outlook

Hi,
I have a strange problem with the config of Outlook on my Windows Mobile 6.5 which I hope someone might be able to offer some help with. This is on a HTC HD2 with standard ROM, v 1.48.405.2 (71294) WWE.
I have configured it to connect with our work Exchange Server, and all is well, except for the "from" email address. On our exchange server I have several smtp email addresses associated with my account, for example:
[email protected] ; [email protected] ; [email protected] (a total of 5).
My main address is [email protected], but for some reason when I go to send an email from my mobile device the from address is [email protected], and I cannot find any way to change this.
I checked the device registry and found an entry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Partners\{xxxx}\EmailAddresses
The contents of this entry showed all my smtp addresses, and had my main address as the final entry, and [email protected] as the first entry. So, I thought it's worth a try to swap them around - I did this, and did a soft reset, but the problem still persists.
Has anyone any suggestions ? Any help appreciated.
(Hope I explained this clearly).
Regards, Jon.
Resolved - using correct default smtp address now
Managed to resolve this, in case anyone is curious / has similar problems. I cannot be 100% sure which action resulted in it working, but I did the following:
- had our IT admin delete then re-add the smtp email addresses to my account, ensuring correct one was marked as default / primary
- deleted the Outlook account from my HD2.
- Created the Outlook account as new on my HD2 (I did this on the phone itself whereas last time I created using Windows Mobile Device Center)
It picked up the correct default email address immediately, and checking registry (location in original post), only the default email address is shown now. Previously all smtp email addresses were listed.
I am suspicious of creating the Outlook account in Windows Mobile Device Center as causing the problem in the first place - my Exchange Server account was previously working fine with a Touch Pro. But cannot be 100% sure without going back and retrying, which as I have it working, I am not going to do at the moment.
Anyway, I shall stop replying / talking to myself now.
Jon.
I have the same problem..
How is it possible to change the adress which you want to use for sending the email?
My Exchange pushes all incoming Emails I receive from different accounts, but sometimes it would be fine to answer with the right Email account.. But I found no solution yet..
Any news from your side jh9957?
Thanks and Regards,
MS
