Phone stuck on 'silent', touchscreen broke... - Mogul, XV6800 General

Hi all! My buddy has a Sprint Mogul, and his clumsy ass has dropped it one too many times! Anyhow, the display works but the screen is cracked and the touchscreen does not respond. The phone was set to 'silent' before the touchscreen crapped out, but since he cant touch on the volume to change it, its stuck on silent now! Is there anyother way the ringer can be activated, at least until he can get his hands on a new one?
Thanks!

I saw this post and got curious, so being ocd, i had to try and find an answer. hehehe
If the phone volume is turned of "Silent", go to "Comm Manager", just hit the button on the side of your phone. Use the "D Pad" to highlight the speaker icon and push down on the D pad= enter. It's now no longer on silent.
Now if you want to change the volume of the ringer without using the touch screen.
If you have a registry editor go to
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring\InitVol
Changing the setting to anything from 1 to 5 will turn up the volume of the ringer.
I searched in the Windows directory for an app that would turn up the ringer volume, couldn't find anything, so i did a search in the registery for "vol" and came up with a list of things. This seemed like the most likely one to try, works good.
You can get there with a little work only using the buttons. And bob's your uncle

Side switch settings

Back when I had WM5 on my phone, the slider switch on the side between the record and camera button would adjust the volume of the speaker.
With WM6, it selects between audio on, vibrate only, and silent.
Does anyone know how to change this to work like it did on WM5?
67 views and no one has anything to add? Wow, I must have found a really good issue. Or is no one else seeing this behavior?
mine behaves like it did under wm5 and 2003se

mine as well....
Same here.. When I put the hardware slider down, 1st the left slider will go down, than the ON "button" will jump from ON to Vibrate, than the right slider will move down, than the Vibrate button will jump to Off.
When I put the hardware slider up, all the above will happen, but in reverse order
It's the same for me as it was with Windows 2003SE
Wow... Well crapola. I wonder what I did to change that. I found the ability to change the volume using that switch vastly useful.
Ok thanks for the feedback.

volume key overrides keylock

I'm using an out the box Orange Touch HD (rom - 1.19.61.1 WWE)
I have found that the volume key still works even when the keylock is active.
I have used HDTweak already for other things and couldn't see anything relating to this. also searched forum to no avail (maybe not well enough )
Does anyone know of a way to fix this as it clearly seems to be an oversight.
Thanks in advance.

At a guess, i think its meant to be like that so you can adjust the volume if you are using it as a music player without having to unlock the phone. Does it affect you when you use the phone? (sorry i don't know how to help but I just thought I'd add my opinion)
thanks for the reply. i understand what you are suggesting but if i press the volume key then by default it adjusts the ringer volume and not the system volume. This is a problem as when its in a pocket i have already had more than one situation where I have gone to get the phone out and without realising, turned the ringer to silent.
I have a related difficulty... Hope you don't mind me adding to this thread rather than setting up a new one...
If my phone (Touch HD on ROM 1.56.405.1) is PIN-locked and I receive a call, I'm unable to change the in-call volume without telling the caller to wait while I unlock the phone and alter the volume... Is there any way of allowing the volume keys to work in this situation without having to unlock? I've search high and low for an answer or some suitable app to handle this.
Thanks.
Sorry - just done another search in these forums and have seen some similar questions and responses... I'll take a look there.

Hi,
I tried using the volume keys when the device was locked, you can indeed adjust the ringer volume whilst the device is locked, although if you try doing this after you switch the screen off by pressing the top power button, pressing the volume keys has no effect then.
Providing the screen is off, you shouldn't have any problems switching your phone to silent unintentionally .
Just thought I mention this.
it's a known problem that regards standard windows mobile locking system. Only solution is using another locking program (s2u2, pocketscreen, touch lock pro, lockmelite and so on). There are on this forum aplenty.
regarding to the other problem with PIN and incall volume i am not really sure but again iirc it's a winmo default locking "feature".
strange...
When I use the keylock (long press endcall-button), my volume keys won't work.. even when the screen is on.
This has been on my stock rom (1.14 NLD), new stock rom and on Dutty's 3.3 XT...

call answer problem

Hi, when someone calling to me two soft buttons are working so it can accidentaly answer or drop the call, slider is working as well how can I switch them off / htc hd ROM 1.19.61.1 WWE Orange radio 1.09.25.14

Are you kidding me? You have a slider that avoids accidential answers and hang-ups, and you have two buttons that youre bound to press when getting the phone out of the pocket. How can you not see this point? It's like having a locked door right next to a huge open window, with freshly baked cookies on the table inside, and not understanding that this could be a security issue.

Valid point,
Guess I never had that problem and also never had the problem of wanting to turn the slider off as I use the buttons (hence I don't see the point of turning them off).

guys you wrong understood me I do not want slider off - just soft buttons - slider is fine - if any new ideas - thanks.
You could change the button action to a double tap in aebplus so you are less likely to activate them.

aebplus lets you change the actions of the buttons on WM devices. Website here http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
I used it to change the volume buttons to up and down buttons.
It is free to try but well worth the money.

Prevent screen switching off during phone call

Hi,
I have read and tried what I could find, but it does not work on my Jade.
Are there any new ideas how to keep the screen from swithching off?
Joe
This is copied from the Jade Manual:
Call functions
When a call is in progress, tap the available buttons on the Phone screen to put a
call on hold, dial another contact for a phone conference, enter notes about the
conversation, and more.
None of the above is possible because the screen disappears by itself.
Do HTC know about it? This seems to be a major f...up.
This problem has been discussed in many threads, there is no real solution.
If you activate the speaker for hands-free immediately after connecting the screen keeps on.
on mine the screen goes off... but if i press one fo the direction buttons it comes back on and stays on so i can use the keypad or look at contacts etc
Thank you guys.
I will try to contact HTC because I think this is a major fault. There is no access to those Call Functions if the screen disappears.
But people should also have the choice of switching the screen off to conserve battery during long conversations. That should be one of the Call Functions.
I tried to bring the screen back by pressing the OK button, but instead it ended the call. So why do we need the END button ?? Poor HTC. They are in front of themselves. Ever producing new half-baked models without thinking it properly out.
I have not tried the < or > buttons, but it would be risky because usually the OK button gets activated as well.
Has anybody on any HTC forum tried to petition HTC? I think this issue would be a nice one for a petition.
Joe
you say you dont want the screen to switch off but u dont want the < and > active?
tring to understand what you want/dont want here?
if i press < or > the screen comes on fully functional...
I did not say I did not want the < > keys active. I don't care what those keys do because I don't use them. The reason is that when I use them, I always inadvertently activate the Enter button. On my phone that terminates the call - the same as the End key.
It would be nice (and even logical) to have the Enter (OK) button to wake up the screen instead of the directional buttons. Maybe there is a registry tweak to do that.

I think it's about getting used to and familiarising with the intended design and button functions. Now after nearly 12 months using Jade I have no complaints. Even using phone banking, no problem with inputting the required numbers. Concur with MvBoe and DJHicks. It should also be acknowledged that this is 80% PDA and 20%phone (roughly).

I was playing with the < and > keys to try to bring the screen back on, and I can definitelly tell you it does not work on my phone.
While doing that, I accidentally pressed the Power on/off switch - and voilá - the screen came back on and stayed on.
I repeated the experiment to confirm it.
Why didn't I think of it earlier? So obvious.

Nearly fixed all my issues with my HD2, only a few more. Any help appreciated

Hi,
As some of you may know I've recently got a HD2, and had a few gripes. Some have been issues with the phone, some have been just me not being used to HTC and/or Windows mobile. I must say the support on here has been nothing short of excellent
Anyway here are my remaining issues, I've searched for answers but can't find them. I have found other posts relating to my issues but not resolving them. I've tried wiki, and hints and tips.
1.Sometimes while making a call the screen turns back on and my ear presses all kinds of functions, and ultimately hangs up the call. I know a few people have had this issue, but has it been resolved, and if so how?
2.Sometimes when I'm typing and press 12# the cursor jumps to the middle of the text. Again I know a few people have had this issue, is there a fix? I must admit, I think I've noticed it happens more typing email rather than SMS.
3.And finally, the call volume. I find that the call volume is very loud and I have to have it on it's quietest setting, and still sometimes it distorts/crackles on certain words/letters, depending on how the person on the other end is talking. The other problem with having to turn the volume down is that when it's connected to my parrot handsfree in my car the call volume is too low and so have to turn it back up on the phone again.
Issues 1 & 3 are very irritating, and I must say pretty poor for a phone of this calibre. Issue 2 isn't major, but still annoying. Are there any fixes or workarounds for these????

I also have the problem. what works for me is in a call, take phone from your ear adjust volume 2 clicks up and then completely down. this will reduce the volume in a call further when it was already set to mimimum. about the handsfree system i dont use that.

Also I'll try that trick with the call volume. Shouldn't have to do it though, bad flaw imo

1. For some ppl, this is due to the hair intermittently covering the sensor. Would be cool to just press a button to turn of the screen in the call.
2. The new SMS-fix from HTC (released today?) apparently fixes this issue. There is a CAB available in one of the threads, if you are on a cooked ROM.
3. You can find a reg edit here to try: HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\inCall AND InCall2
Change the value of InitVol to "2". >One of them is "5"

OK, I've changed the initvol so will see how that works next time I take a call. Many thanks for your help
I have had issue 1 & 3. I upgraded to ROM 1.61 and that solved all of the issues that I had with my phone and also increased the speed too. Issue 3 was very annoying for me and I sent my phone back to o2 for a replacement and got the replacement yesterday. I imediately flashed to ROM 1.61 which solved any issues I had, but the crackling at high frequencies still remain. I guess I have to live with it until some fix comes out. The high call volume is still an issue.

1. The problem happend to me several time, but I have boldhead, so in my case hairs are innocent
I notices twice that screen light up when I have been calling someone and pickuping phone on the other side of the line was the trigger. But this could be of course just some kind of coincidence.
3. thanks for reg entry, this is the first real reason to modifie some entry at this phone, because my calls can hear people standing next to me
First of all ... update your radio and your ROM. From my experience Xannytech is the best so far, in terms of design and stability. I3v5y is also nice, but a lil bit more buggy (not his fault, it's WM6.5.3).
And what I really think on 2. is that you maybe press the cursor button. I think the keyboard from HTC is not really developed for capacitive screens. I heard TouchPal is quite good. I dont write that much so I dont need it

Could it be the sensitivity of the touch screen ??
Ive had something similar with the sms on screen keyboard.
here is the thread to get the cab to reduce the sence of the screem . works for me with the On Screen Keyboard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5071018&postcount=430
I've suffered from issue two and its deffinately not a case of fat fingers. After I noticed this happening I was very careful about where I was pressing, yet the cursor still jumped.
I've got around this by just using the long keypress to select icons from the normal qwerty keyboard.
On a similar line to this (and I think it may, fingers crossed, have been fixed in the latest update) is when you open an sms thread from the sense interface, if you start typing the XT9/ABC toggle is switched to XT9, yet the input is standard ABC, switching it back and forth still doesn't do anything!! Just another little thing I noticed.
