Xperia AT&T users question - wap.cingular or isp.cingular? - XPERIA X1 General

The default AT&T configuration on the xperia is to use wap.cingular
For those who don't know, there are two internet access configurations for AT&T:
access point: wap.cingular
username: [email protected]
pw: cingular1
access point: isp.cingular
username: [email protected]
pw: cingular1
Does anybody know which one works better? I had heard isp.cingular is supposed to be better, but for some reason it is not working and my phone gives me a "cannot connect" error message. It works fine on wap.cingular and I have to turn off the proxy settings to get slingplayer to work.

it depends on the type of internet plan you have if you have the medianet plan use wap if you have ppc connect use isp
i use medianet on my 8125

mine still doesnt work with neither settings. does it matter if you have the 14.99 media net or the 29.99 would that make a difference with the xperia x1?

To use the ISP access point you must contact tech support to get it provisioned to your account..
I must use it to gain vpn access to several of my clients networks. No proxies used .....
_____________________________________
To access MediaNet WEBSITE!!!, you must use the WAP access point!
Also you must have tthe proxies activated!!
Proxies setting::
http
server: wireless.cingular.com
port: 80
Socks
server: localhost
Port: 1080
Socks4
If you do not set the proxies, you can acess the Internet but not any of the associated sites with Medianet!!!
hth,
Stuart

I found that if you use the autoconfiguration on the phone.. you have to do the following:
1) go to setting > connection > manage my existing connection
2) then click on media net
3) click next until user name etc... then clear user name and password and click advance
4) click on Use IP header compresion
5) click on and finish
6) uncheck "this network use a proxy server to connect to the internet" in the proxy setting tab
I have to do this everytime when I swap out my att sim and back into the phone before I can use the internet and send mms (I can probably use internet w/o doing all this..... but definitely not mms)
enjoy~

I don't understand why you'd have to do that.
Are you on one of the regular MEdia Net plans, or are you on the tethering plan?

i tried all of the above methods the result is i am able to use all other internet applications like google maps MSN etc
but only cannot browse any websites using IE or Opera on HSPA
i am using a iPhone 3G SIM on my X1a maybe that's causing the problem?

Yes it is, In order to use your Iphone Sim card for browsing the internet you have to call att and have a tech person set it up, I think it means dropping the Iphone plan!!

I am on the media plan... I have no idea why I have to do that either but if I dont....I will not be able to send mms... thats for sure
btw.... dropping the iphone plan isnt necessarily a bad thing.... given the cheapest iphone 3G plan cost you $70.... I can get a $60 plan like my original iphone with 3G connection on the X1

GPRS PROBLEM HELP - CHINA MOBILE - QTEK 9100

My mobile have been bought from germany but install a English OS
ROM VERSION 1.1.7.5
ROM DATE 9/22/05
RADIO 01.01.10
PROTOCOL 4.0.13.16
ext ROM 1.1.7.105
Model Wiza200
I configured the Gprs According to the CM (china mobile) settings
AP= CMWAP
IP 10.0.0.172 : 9201
Wap.monternet.com
apparently the device connect to GPRS but when I try to surf it say : THE PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND CHECK THE NAME AND TRY AGAIN;
but in fact the GPRS is connected (I can see the icon in the top)
I used the same SIM card on my OLd NOKIA and it works
I really dunno anymore how to solve it
Maybe some mistakes in the configuration....where I should add the port?
AP= CMWAP
IP 10.0.0.172 : 9201
Wap.monternet.com
Looks like WAP settings... Try to find GPRS settings, usually they are different.

Settings-Connections-Add a new modem connection:
My Connection - (Enter name)
Cellular Line (GPRS)
Next - Access point name (ask your operator, i think not CMWAP)
Next - User name & Password (ask your operator)
Advanced (ask your operator)
Finish
Soft Reset
just launch your ie

Your setting is for WAP and MMS, not GPRS.
Go to 'Setting', 'Connection', 'Connections', Add a new modem connection, Select a modem 'Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G), APN: cmnet, then leave all other fills blank.
access point: cmnet
home page:none
now it says cannot connect to CMNET

Some mistakes in the previous messages.
As a reminder, you can do WAP over GSM or over GPRS as well.
And you can do web surfing or other applications like Skype for instance or other protocols like FTP over GSM or GPRS as well also.
So, to sum-up CMWAP and CMNET are two different APN in order to acces to CMCC GPRS.
CMWAP is used for WAP browsing, but it works also for web! I use it on my Alpine since many months. It seems that you're charged per minute.
CMNET is used for Skype, FTP and other stuff like that. Charged by volume.
I don't know the cost even if I use it now since more than one year
Parameters:
APN: cmwap
In "Proxy Settings", check "This network connects to the Internet"and also "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet". Then fill the field name "Proxy server" with: 10.0.0.172
Then click on "Advanced..." button
In front of HTTP, the port should be 80
In front of WAP, the port should be 9201
In front of Secured WAP, the port should be 9203
In front of Socks, the port should be 1080
APN: cmnet
Click on "Advanced..." button and go to "Servers", then select "Use specific server address" and fill it as following:
DNS: 211.136.20.203
Alt DNS: 211.136.20.203
and don't care about the homepage, you can put what you want and not only Wap.monternet.com
MMS Settings:
Gateway: 10.0.0.172
Port number: 9201
Server address: http://mmsc.monternet.com
I can warrant you that all is working perfectly with these settings all over China since my arrival here (November 2004).
By the way, if you have any information about the billing on each APN, I'm interested in!
Hope it helps!
CMWAP is 20RMB for Month!!!!!!
but by using it I can't connect to MSN...can you?
CMNET...I will try now and I will let you knoe the costs

no way to connect to CM NET....I will call the Customer support and I will let you know
Really strange that you cannot connect to CMNET with these parameters...
And I'm not sure that CMCC Customer Support can do something for you as your terminal will be "Unknown" in their list... after they're definitely lost :?
Where are you living? At Shanghai the both APN works perfectly, and on all the other provinces I've visited CMWAP is working well (I never used CMNET outside Shanghai).
As I said on the previous post, it's normal that you can't use such kind of application like MSN with CMWAP APN!
About the cost of 20RMB for connecting CMWAP you surprise me coz I only have a prepaid GSM subscription... So it should mean that if I connect one time in a month I will be charge 20RMB and if I connect during many days I will be charge the same price...
I will try to have a look to CMCC wesite with my chinese teacher next time
Sure, in many Chinese cities, the CMCC began their service of 20 RMB per month for CNWAP since 2005.
but for me, I use CMNET and CMWAP both, GPRS is specially for my MSN and mail-box. but be careful, the price of GPRS is 0.03 RMB per KB!
but in Shanghai, I don't think the CMCC will give you the price of 20 RMB per month, for as everybody knows, Shanghai is an expensive city, and your Shanghaier are richamen...
Damn the CMCC!
You can surely get the CMWAP package for 20RMB in Shanghai. And CMNET got package as well, which is pretty exp.....
OK, you can get these kind of package for CMWAP as well as for CMWEB APN.
But it's not mandatory.
Since one year, I'm only using prepaid for these 2 APN.
I'm going to check if these packages are more interesting, but I doubt...
That really depends on ur usage. You can turn on the service of gprs with choice to be charged by kb or package, no matter prepaid or contract as long as u pay the money.
I did hear that someone surfs the internet by using proxy in wap, but i havent comfirmed that by myself. If it works, that really saves a lot.

Please see my first post on this thread. It's really easy to surf on the web using CMWAP APN. You just have to configure the Proxy server as I said.
Good luck
You might want to check the connection rules:
start->settings->connections->connections ?
in the settings/GPRS Setting, try to chek if the CHAP authentication is checked.

T-Zones USA

I'm not sure if any of you have had this problem.
I've been using t-zones for my imate jam for more than a year to surf the web and IM my friends. A few weeks ago it stopped working and I finally got fed up and called them to see what the problem was. After being on the phone for more than an hour trouble shooting with them, they finally told me that they updated the system.
They said the t-zones connection no longer supported port 80 connections (internet connection). This explained a lot since I am able to connect to t-zones, but not get any content from my browser.
Has anyone had this same problem? Is there a way around it besides getting the $20 Internet Feature from t-mobile?
Try to put this into the HTTP proxy setting:
HTTP proxy: getmorespeed.voicestream.com port 8080
Hope this will work out for you.
And also, its not longer $20, now its $30, they bundle it with Hotspot. No more option to have just the GPRS.
This kinda defeats the whole point of having a PDA phone for me if I can't get cheap internet on it. For $30 I'd expect to get an EDGE connection, not some crappy 5kbs connection.
Oh well.
so, the proxy above doesn't work out for you?
I still have the t-zone for $6 month and my connection still works so far with the proxy above.
well I'll have to call tmobile and have them activate my tzones again (I hate paying for unusable services) I'll keep you posted with any updates. Are you able to use the wap.voicestream.com still or does that one no longer work for you?
You can do it on-line in the T-Mobile web site. Just re-check the T-MobileWeb option and tomorrow morning it will start working again.
If it does not work out, then you go back to the T-Mobile web site and uncheck the T-Mobile web again. And the changes will be effective the following day. Then you will pay 1/30 times $6 for that 1 day service.
I still use wap.voicestream.com with the proxy setting I mentioned above.
Generally I can browse the web, and I can sync to my company Exchange server.
for some reason the check box in grayed out and I'm not able to check the stupid box. I'll wait till tomorrow to see if there is any change.
Thank You... That worked for me...
ok so I've got t-zones back up and running and I've set the address to getmorespeed.voicestream.com but I'm not sure what the port 8080 is? I searched through all my settings and was not able to find anyhting that looked similar to this. does anyone have a screen capture of it to give me a better idea where to look?
I think you set it wrong.
The access point name (APN) in the GPRS setting is still wap.voicestream.com
After you set that up, then you go to the Proxy Setting, and add the HTTP proxy: getmorespeed.voicestream.com and when you click Advanced, you will see the default proxy port number is 80. Change it to 8080.

Sim Card - iPhone - HTC Shift

Can I take my sim card out of my iPhone and get it to work in the Shift?
I can get the ATT logo, I can send text messages but can not set-up an email account because says not connected on the data side. can not get the sim to connect in Vista either.
Has anyone been able to make this work? Again, Using sim out of iPhone.
The Shift's wizard sets up AT&T for the usual full data plan with the apn isp.cingular. You'll need to change the connection settings in the WinMo side to use the regular mediaNet data connection (that's what the iPhone uses).
server/APN is WAP.CINGULAR
username: [email protected]
Passwd: CINGULAR1
slightly OT but will an AT&T sim card with a regular blackberry plan work? i'm a CDMA guy so not sure about the GSM thing.

O2 Connection Settings

I want to flash my XDA Serra but the thing i norticed was i am unable to get the O2 network settings when i enter my mobile number it asks me to contact customer services and thats plain long!
However with the O2 phone i noticed theres like a connection program that gets the settings or unless someone has one that does the same thing.
I want to flash my phone with PROven ROM
PAYG or contract? The PAYG settings are all over this sub forum like a rash
Not sure if the links from here work or not, but they might be worth a try.
UK GPRS Settings
even if they are contract settings, just edit the settings in connections to payandgo.o2.co.uk for access point and payandgo for password and they will work
yay, an O2 user responded, i couldn't help more than i did as i am on Vodafone and mine were in a nice neat tidy CAB file.
postpay settimgs
Hi,
You could use prepay but they may cap the prepay connection speed (like they did with contracts for a long time)
postpay mobile web settings
start - settings - connections - connections - the internet - create new connection
connection name (whatever)
type: cellular line (3G, GPRS)
Access point: mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: o2web/faster/(blank) - doesnt make much difference it just allocates a different ip range address to the device with each username - i suggest o2web as this is the official one for devices. 'Faster' they use in data cards, mobile broadband etc.
Password: password
Domain: (Blank)
Finish
Soft reset
Sorted

Settings?
I too am looking for the settings, specially for MMS. Internet and SMS seem to work fine but MMS is a 'no-go.' Oh, I too am on WM6.5... and does anyone know what happened to T-Mo's configuration pages? Now it's a pay service?!?!
yea i need these settings too can someone post them on this page??
these settings are readily available on the internet.
If anyone gets charged any fees for using this dont complain to me. this is not exactly the best setup but it does work. all it is is the tzones proxy work around with a step or 2 added nothing that hasnt been posted before. but still its not my info i'm just passing it along.

access point: wap.voicestream.com
T-Mobile MMS

Second Proxy:

Connects to: The Internet
Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080

Internet:

Everything is blank Priomary and Secondary DNS are 0.0.0.0
I have used internet2.voicestream.com for access point as well, but do not notice any difference anymore.
