Here is a "Snow Dome" type of application. Completely useless, but it was fun for programming. Try using it 2 days in a row
Watch this space for enhancements over time.
- Changed the speed
All new version on 22 Sep 2008
This has been a complete rewrite of the SnowStorm application and it was a good learning school !
Despite the complexity of the algorithm, I think the response times are very acceptable. If you like to count the number of snowflakes: there are 200 of them and each of them is updated every 40 ms !
I am really impressed with the 3D capabilities of the Diamond !
Using the OpenGLES SDK to create a "pseudo" 3D layout.
- Snowflakes will be larger in the front then in the back.
- If the PDA is laying horizontal, snowflakes will "disappear" to the back-end or stay on the front after a while
- Pseudo horizon, fixed at about 50% of the screen.
- Simple graphics, trees are placed randomly, snowman is fixed
- Simple turbulence (any pointers to good algorithms are appreciated)
- Snowflakes disappear behind trees/snowman, depending on their position in space. They will travel through them however
- Simple collision detection, only sides of the "frustum" are checked, as well as the artificial floor.
Click on the top part to be asked to quit the program. Click on the lower (25%) of the screen to restart it.
Expect some other enhancements over time too.
Needs CF 3.5 !
Important:
If you like my applications and want to donate, consider a donation to Koushik.
After all it is thanks to his (and the many other developers) work and readiness to share it that I can write these programs. I (currently) still get enough satisfaction in writing these programs.
lol... cool ... totally useless!
But I think It should react more when u shake it..!?

Without words.......
But wit an enormous grin!!!!!!!!!!!
Video here.

Nice, but way too slow. The flakes should also move faster when the movement is more violent.
Thx

how about a flying santa when you shake it ?

.net compact framework needed, where can i get the latest version for my diamond?
Totally useless, but...........very cool.
Only a question. I've installed your cab but I've obtained only the second image that you've posted not the first. Is there a way to pass from one image to another ?
Thanks

Currently there is no way to change the images, I just display one each day
So to answer your question: wait for a day
BTW, working on a new openGL based version that might react faster and more realistic

Send me a wave or mp3 with some jingle bells and I'll do my best. I'll make sure you have it before Xmas.

This could be big... Xperia X1's Fish tank big..., maybe we could use this as a screensaver or as an unlock screen of some kind....
Maybe we should be able to change not only the picture on the background but the color and size on the snowflakes as well, so it won't be just a christmas thing...
Also, maybe you should also put some interactive water in the ball... as for sound? It's not really necessary i think...
Good job btw! Thanks...

I use .NET CF 3.5 for most of my applications. It comes with the ROM image I installed, but it is also downloadable for free from Microsoft. Have a look in this forum, there are several pointers to it. (Sorry, that I can not be more helpful)
I know the speed doesnt need to be turbo cuz the snowflkes are in the fluid (water, etc..) but having this in mind, the movement is still toooooo slow.. Same with the beer application.. Can it be more faster? Take a look here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CEBtJG3pFhI
Cool! Thank you!
cool application for xmas
i do have a suggestion though
i would assume that the large amount of snowflakes caused the slow down..i think you should have about 50 snowflakes at most (maybe slightly bigger if necessary)..200 makes it a bit too clustered
cool good job
Wow I am made up to see this, I don't know why I didn't see it before, I think it may even have been my idea once, so thanks a lot for making it real.
So many downloads awesome!
Edit: Had a play great, better than I thought, Looking forward to be able to run it with my own background image.
So VGA screen, high resolution clear crisp graphics, is that all
I hope not, of course i changed the name around but i got the idea from vista dreamscene which has the animated wallpaper. Not sure if it is or will ever be implemented but i thought the idea would be of some discussion. Or even a wallpaper that when our phone is tilted in a certain direction the image sort of shifts. Basically we would view the same image but from a different angle by taking use of the sensors.
OF COURSE it would be a battery hog, so we dont need posts about that
That sound like a great idea, hope someone can do it
I hope so too
yeah.. a great idea... But for me is enough an animated gif as background
sigh...
Is there a way to increase the zoom rate when pinching in Opera? I usually have to pinch up to three times to zoom in enough on, for example, a link...
'Double click' to zoom in will give you enough space to click on a link.
I guess, but I'd still like to increase the degree of zooming when pinching. That's why I asked how to increase it and not if there were other ways to zoom in. But thanks anyway.

There is a reg tweak to allow you to click on links in non-zoom, that may help? Its in the sticky at the top of the page.

Thanks both of you. I did know about that particular tweak, though I probably should have been more clear regarding my problem. Zooming in on a link was merely an example. When zooming in, I generally like pinch zooming better than double tapping; it is more precise and you yourself can choose the degree of zooming. However, I'd like to able to get the zooming just right with only one pinch instead of multiple.
I'd like it to be more like, forgive me for this, the iphone, but only regarding safari mind you!

Isn't there anyone who can help with this one?

Like an iphone???
So you would like to have no choice in how your browser behaves?
Or you would like the choice to change it to similar to Safari?
Luckily in WM you have countless possibilities.

We don't want a ****ty iPhone.
All we want is faster zooming.
Yes, there IS countless possibilities, thanks to WM. But HOW do we increase the zoom rate when pinch zooming?
yep, that would be a nice tweak ...

I guess there should be some configuration. Have you tried set Zoom config in opera:config?
I can't find anything.
I can set the zoom rate for HTC Album and other stuff, but not for Opera.
May I ask this again? Has anyone found anything in the meantime?
Hi All,
I currently have a Touch HD and have been wondering about upgrading to a HD2. So I went into my local phone shop and asked if I could play with one. Everything was going well until I opened Opera and went to the website www.tvguide.co.uk (which I use a lot). It looked great but it would take me about 5 attempts to hit any of the links on the screen unless I zoomed them to be far larger than I wanted them to be.
Just to be sure this wasn't a problem with the particular handset I had I went to another store and tried another device. Got exactly the same problem. I have no such problems on my HD.
I have heard rumours that the capacitive screens are not as accurate as resistive ones but my experience was far worse than I was expecting.
Has anyone else experienced issues with accuracy of link tapping in Opera ?

There's a setting (in opera's config) that determines the minimum zoom level for links to work at. It was probably just that. The same was on the HD, so you'd at least have to double-tap before you could hit a link, but apps such as HDTweak could change that, so you didn't have to zoom.
Was it maybe that?
Also, when you've got your hands on one of these, you can do a screen align so that the device gets used to how you touch the screen, rather than some generic "lots of people press it like this" kind of setting.
Just a couple of thoughts that could explain your problems.
Browsing on the HD2 currently leaves a lot to be desired, or certainly in comparison to Safari on the iPhone and iPod Touch which is what I was using previously and is the benchmark other mobile devices have to live up to. However, that can and hopefully will be rectified as the available browsers are updated and made better.
The bundled version of Opera, despite supporting multi-touch, just doesn't seem fluid enough to me and, as mentioned in this thread, selecting links without zooming can be a serious pain in the arse even with the hacks and options set up to make it easier.
i thought that initially but then realised that i was trying to be too precise and maybe aiming a little off it.
now i just hit the link area with my big thumb and it seems to figure to click the link directly in the middle of where i pressed.
for example browsing this forum i find no problems at all with trying to click a page number
I dont think pressing the link was really much of a problem to me. If you double tap once and still can't hit the link, just hold down on the link for like half a second and it'll click through.
OK, thanks for the tips guys. I don't think it was the minimum zoom feature because at a fixed zoom level it would eventually recognize the tap after maybe 5 or 6 attempts.
However, I will try to get hold of another one, reset the minimum zoom, recalibrate the screen and then try pressing and holding with my thumb and see how I get on.
Cheers,
David
I have problems hitting links and scrolling through a combo box. When I try to scroll through the contents of a combo box with more than 20 entries, the whole page scrolls up and down...
There is a simple registry tweak in the sticky thread "hints and tips" that allows you to click links easily without zooming. I've found that it works very well, and I can click the very smallest of links. The only site I've found that doesn't work so well is this one for some reason
In the hints and tips thread it advises you to change the threshold to thirty something I think. I found this still didn't rectify this issue, so I cahnged it to "2" and it works brilliantly

If you're anything like me, you're able to appreciate precision...
Such as alignment, things being linear... or perhaps something just fitting on-screen, rather than causing obscure transparent affects on what is (by default) an otherwise beautifully designed, perfectly matched lock screen.
Now, after having said all of that... I'm sure most of you are wondering what I was just rambling about. Well, if you haven't discovered this already... then I suppose I'll elaborate. Once you have applied a lock screen wallpaper, it is then automatically rendered to fit the screen resolution of, "480x800"... which in turn causes your wallpaper quality to typically be compromised if the resolution isn't already EXACTLY that!
Also, you'll noticed that your "curtains" become faded and transparent. Which again, for someone like myself... I do NOT enjoy looking at my wallpapers through "curtains" or "slivers of glass".

Awesome, thanks man!! I'm still trying to learn why this is an issue on the HD2 as opposed to other 480x800 hardware, like my TP2, but it's great to see that people are finding ways around it
I noticed that at least one of the wallpapers you found and modified there (color flames) is one that I'd also stumbled across and cabbed up for the TP2 using HDWalls. I've got a dozen or so others of various styles that you're welcome to check out and work the same magic on if you're interested...some are in the same vein as the ones you have there, others are completely different, but I thought you might enjoy some or at least find them worth converting like you did the ones you posted above.

Yeah, thanks for posting those... I'll check those out.
I figured that I'd put these out there because I don't like when my wallpaper is stretched out and covers the curtains on the lock screen.
HD2 Walls
I came across eseth.net they have a lot of high quality wallpapers customly designed for the HD2. I even used one of the ones I downloaded to make my girl some tigger walls for her phone. Good looking out guys!
I'll be making more if people are willing to put in requests for LOCK SCREEN "FITTED" wallpapers.
Better yet, if they provide the 480x800 .JPEG file they wish to shrink down, and have adjusted to fit in between the lock screen curtains... I'll post those as well.
I'll do some more wallpaper hunting tonight though...

Simply create a folder on your SD card that you can name WHATEVER... and then go to your settings to change the LOCK SCREEN WALLPAPER!

Whoopsie, sorry 'bout the 'dis' Reign!
I did download yours too, I just happened to reply to phunkee's reply is all!
I am a glutton for pixel precision. For example, I play FFXI on PC. I play on a window, not full screen, so, accounting for the task bar, the title bar, and the window borders (2 px on either side when maximized) I take all that into consideration and modify the game's registry entries so that when the window is maximized, the screen is drawn to 1:1 ratio. I then set my fake AA (the game doesn't support AA, but you can set the 3D render independent from the window size, so I super-sample) to exactly twice the resolution of my window resolution.
Anyway, that long winded paragraph was to say that yeah, I appreciate pixel perfection and I love what you're doing here.
A little off topic, do you guys know what do do about Opera Mobile (both or either the installed version 9.7 and the downloadable 10.0). Neither draws the web-page to 1:1 on the 480x800 screen. With 9.7, you can pinch-zoom in very minuscule decrements/increments to get the page to be 1:1, but it clears as soon as you leave the page. On 10.0 there's absolutely nothing that can be done because pinch-to-zoom doesn't work and the preset percentage values are atrociously off.
Strangely, Opera Mini doesn't suffer this problem, so I find myself using it often as my main browser, but there are times when I need to use a "real" browser, for example, when a page has dynamic content.
Has anybody noticed this?
Ok, so I'm using HD Walls now, and i've done every step right, my only uncertainty is, in teh config file Im not sure which to select.
I know it's Sense 2.5. I'm using Energy's 21898 rom with co0kie's 1.7 apr 14th.
I get the wallpapers to show up in my HDwalls on my phone, and when i set wallpaper nothing changes, even after clearing out said registries.
i was wondering if any one here knows, i have asked in other threads, how i can get this image to be my background for my home screen and all other tabs. my lock screen/start menu background is fine. i also have a cab. file for this image but when i install it just the top and bottom task bars change to the pic. any help/ideas? i have US TMO HD2 stock. someone else had this issue, and tried to install the hdwallpaper patch but it didnt help. i myself have not tried the patch. thanks in advance.

I don't have my HD2 yet ...but as soon as I get it my first order of business is figuring out how to use HDWalls for this new device. I've asked some other users to share their settings that worked, hopefully that might help in the meantime.

these look awesome. thanks for your contributions. two weeks ago, i thought about selling my hd2 to get a nexus one due to my love for android os. i'm actually liking win mo more and more. it can be just as customizable as the android OS as i'm slowly finding out.
Thanks for the praise folks...
However, I believe some of you are misunderstanding WHY exactly I created these wallpapers.
They are "curtain friendly" designs, referring to the wallpapers fitting within the physical curtain boundaries. NOT to be some kind of "background for all tabs", meaning that the wallpaper graphics I post are NOT even going to touch your task bar or soft key bar.
These are only created to fit within the boundaries of an unmodified lock screen.
Again, just a bump for those who sent me a PM.
Thanks for your interest.
Sorry for the spam though folks...
