I’ve been lurking in these forums waiting to actually get an x1 before registering. But at the rate SE is going I really don’t know when that’ll be. SE is really dropping the ball on this one. Wasn’t this device developed in California and specifically intended for the US market?
If the announcement is this late, imagine what the release will be like

the Eu version is out there everywhere with Online Retailers. I am told 1900MHZ works in most locations for 3G and AT&T. No 3G for T mob yet....
Called SE here in US today. There will be an announcement sometime this week as to the X1a. And, no, the X1i does not have the 850 3G Band.

yep It kinda sucks. Been waiting in the UK and being told next week for about 8 weeks, and then it comes out buggered up on the networks kinda sucks. If it was out a month ago I'd have bought i, as it stands, the touch HD is looking more appealing right now.... I can only imagine how galling it is to now be told it's 31/11/08 - It really would not surprise me if that date comes and goes with still no phone.

Wow, that sucks. Even SE reps said clove.co.uk would be the first retailer to ship unlocked units to customers as soon as tomorrow! I wonder what the issue is now, most likely either a major software malfunction or they shipped the wrong units that don't have 384MB of ram

Clove has sent out e-mails that SE has delayed Xperia till the end of the month and thus it won't be available now. Is this true? if so, then it really sucks!
The set was "officialy" launched on the 30th of last month. Over 10 days later, still no final Xperia device has been seen, and no store is yet offering it on sale - i.e. having it in stock.
Furthermore, there is not a single page that details the entire specifications of Xperia in detail. The whitepaper that was recently linked to on Xperiancers was also from back in May. Does Sony Ericsson even know how to market their phones and how to detail them? Because from where i'm sitting, Johnny X seems to be the only marketing campaign at the moment and it is completely useless.
Over a month back i was determined to purchase Touch Pro... then i switched to Xperia and decided to wait. But now i am getting really impatient with Sony Ericsson and lack of any final device reviews and availability and this after 2 weeks of the "supposed" launch of Xperia.
Is there any chance that Xperia will be actually launched/availble within this week or early next? Or is it actually delayed?
I have to say that i am extremely disappointed in Sony Ericsson at this point and have pretty much lost confident in it. Even the demonstration video by Xperiancers done a few days back is on a prototype/non-final device which is what the demonstrator continuously states at the start and end of the demonstration.. Maybe i should just go for some other smartphone?
Hopefully you'll have enough decency to supply us with an insight on when actually will Xperia be available. I don't care about where it will be available - may it be UK or on a remote island - but just tell us WHEN WILL XPERIA BE ACTUALLY AVAILABLE?!?!?!?!?

Actually it probably has shipped but my guess is that it has gone to the carriers (Voda, O2 - maybe Orange - lol!). The carriers do not bring it out straight away as they are busy branding the phones with their sh*t - Orange and Voda are well known for that (Orange will even drop a phone if it can't put its software on to it).
O2 as far as I know don't brand it too heavily - hence why they may well be the first carrier out with it on Monday ( I have already seen adverts in Oxford Street). The carriers take priority and then the online outlets get their slice later....

You know, i think you are right... i have seen O2 claims that it'll be launching Xperia early next week and Vodafone is slated to release it by the 17th.
So maybe, it is stores such as Clove or Expansys that are delayed.

As far as i know, Expansys, Clove and other such sites have been delaying. But those launching against a network - like Vodafone or O2 - they are staying steady on their launch date.
Update:
Just got this from Clove - after i sent 'em an e-mail inquiring about the availability for Xperia. I also sent one to Expansys and will post their response too when they send it:
"Hi Salman, we have received news today that the release of the X1 has now been delayed until the end of this month. However, we have been assured that we will be among those receiving the first models once it is released. If you would like to place a backorder now you will be in the priority queue for a device. However, we will not charge your card for the order until the machines are in stock and ready to be shipped."
Now this here is a big concern for me... as i was looking forward to purchase Xperia within next week. Now it seems that it won't be available.
I would have probably waited longer, but phones don't come to Pakistan that quick after they are available, and my window for purchasing was via my brother who is travelling to UAE next week. Now i'm back to the same question; "To wait or not to wait? Xperia or some other?"

Xperia is definitely launched in Sweden... When will it be available at clove or expansys? i don't know, but i'm certain that networks will be launching as planned.
Sounds as if it was an extremely limited stock that was released to Sweden though. To be honest I think they were still making some last minute changes in the face of known deficiencies - for instance on one recent video the reviewer said it came with the SPB Shell Panel, whereas MR's review unit did not have this.
Spb panel must be downloaded from SE`s website. (It is free.) It is not pre-installed on the device.
Thats what I thought, but not according to the video where he says it was pre-installed... Who the heck really knows, waaay too much conflicting information around this phone (theres a lesson in there for you SE).

Not saying I'll switch if X1a is better but...I'd like to see someone do a field test (i.e. side-by-side comparison) on ATT U.S. with the X1i and the X1a just to see if there is any difference with 3G coverage due to the missing 850mhz band from the X1i model.

Where did you pre-order it? What carrier did you get it for? I'm not all that happy with my Fuze, and well within my 30day trial... Just played with a G1 today, and it was awesome, but I still like my winmo.
I preordered at Sony Style Family Center (basically Sony Style). They intially said they would ship Friday, but a couple days I got a follow up stating that it was pushed back to 11/25...as did a number of other customers.
Im with At&t here in Puerto Rico,I do a lot of internet radio streaming With Pocketplayer while driving in San Juan and I do not notice any diference between my kaiser and X1i.Basically same 3G with both
For me, I only care if the different in multimedia capacity is true or not.
Is SonyEricsson available in the US Market? I did not see many users using it when I was on a trip to Los Angeles few days ago?
Many users are using LG, Samsung or Motorola but never seen anyone using SonyEricsson.

yes, i have the x1i and i get 3g coverage in most parts of new york so ill b happy to test it out.
I placed my order at Bestbuy. I hope they get it to me before the end of the month... I just hope it works.

I pre-ordered from sonystyle on the 13th, website said will ship the 21st. Got an email a day or two later that says the 25th, but I keep checking the website daily Just noticed it says "in stock". That's a great sign.

Wishing for some odd reason Dell Sales chat would magically say "Yes you may order one now, let me take your information" was my main motivation to bug them tonight. And hey, some good came of it, I am on a notification list!

I can't register it until the 15th because he wasn't supposed to be able to sell it until then. What that tells me is the 'gossip' is correct .. THAT will be the release date. Maybe the 14th as the rumor has it or the 15th when the winners are released from their obligation ..

2.2 Has a lot of updates as you would expect in a major update but to be honest it flies with 1.6 on it so i am loving it.
I bet there are a few in the US at the moment who are very jealous of you,just hope you all have a chance to get one real soon

If 2.1 is suppose to hit Aug 15, one would think SE would make the announcement already. One point six isn't that great of a selling point when most of the other phones have 2.1 or higher.

Why the 15th?
If there's a major SE event that date there might be something to it, August is in the third quarter.
The only major event is that they are releasing the X10 in the U.S. But they already stated it will be coming with 1.6
They are not just going to slip 2.1 in without telling us. We'll know when it's coming in due time.

Since most of SE's sales come from outside North America (I have no official figures, just stating logically) where their phones are bought for the actual cost and not subsidized by the carriers, I don't think that it really is such a big event for them. The world doesn't revolve around us ya know...

erm, my phone was subsidised in the UK by vodafone. as are most handsets sold here.

Yep, I have been a week in London and I was surprised to find so few cell phones shops (generic shops I mean, not operator shops). That was a bit weird as in Italy cell phone are sold almost anywhere (not by the butcher, though) and only a small percentage is tighten to a carrier contract.
vodafone in Australia looks pretty nice you pay 0 for the phone and $79 a month. I dont know if thats normal there but 0 for the phone looks like a good deal.

August 15th is the official release date for the Xperia X10a in the U.S.
Android 2.1 update will not be released until Q1 2011...

If anything they will delay the release of the firmware for 2 weeks for for 1 month.
Don't expect the firmware to be released any sooner than November.

it was pushed backed again at least for ATT in America. Im not too sure about the rest of the world. Hopefully that is not the case.
Looks like everybody is trying hard for 2.1 update by coming out with new thread lol.
As per 2.1 update, it's going to come in September. I spoke to SE guy yesterday in Mumbai, India and looked like he was pretty sure about it. Just wait for few weeks and we'll get it.
I work for Sony and that's what we were told... like i said this is probably only relating to AT&T U.S. not everywhere else...
The devs need to get that bootloader cracked ASAP! lol

$0 upfront is pretty standard here. the handset repayments are included in the monthly bill, until you start getting the the expensive plans where they make the money back through the plan. having said that, I'm pretty fond of mine. i'm on a $0 upfront $59 cap + $10 handset repayments. gets me $300 of calls, unlimited national text and mms free youtube, FB and myspace +2GB.

Rogers' Customer Support E-mail service never actually helps you with anything as far as my experience goes with them. I'd try calling the customer service and see if they fare any better, but if not, release is just around the corner anyways...
How do you guys know for sure it launches April 28th on Rogers? I heard from a rep its May 2nd.. but not sure if he knew 100% either

I think i subscribed 3 times already to their pre order thing ( yes great programming there.... ) and never got the call on the week of the 15th or anything since then
Plus I called the Customer Relation departement two , three times to see if the reason I wasnt contacted was because I'm not eligible to an upgrade and couldnt get a stupid answer...
They won't even speak of pricing or anything , even less release date, even tho Rogers officially announced it.

well if it helps confirm that its the 28th, i pre-ordered mine from a sony style store and they are getting it for sure on the 28th, which would mean rogers will as well.
i had a chance to play with it in store the other day, man is it fast! i had an iphone 4 and an atrix prior and to be honest i see no difference in speed between dual cores and single cores. maybe a second or two delay in opening heavier applications but thats about it. either way, cannot wait till thursday
