Please forgive these basic questions. I myself am a wing owner, but a coworker is in constant awe of the power of xda and has enlisted my help in maximizing his Hermes. Just a couple of questions:
Meaning to come off as a complete newb or a jacka** is not what I desire, but at the same time I haven't hours to invest towards knowing every detail about a phone I myself do not own. I'm fully well aware of how to search and obviously if I can type I can read, so informing to do either of these tasks will be meaningless to me.
My questions:
1) With the wing, if you "brick" your phone during a ROM flash, you can re-flash an RUU and you'll be just fine. Does this work the same way with the Hermes?
2) How difficult is the HardSPL process with the Hermes and is there anything to watch out for?
3) Are there special steps needed to take in order to upgrade him from wm5 to wm6/6.1 or a ROM based upon either version?
4) Is there a way to overclock the phone, and does it make a noticable difference? I already put batterystatus on it and it isn't giving me the overclocking options it does with my wing. I'm guessing it's because it's a different type of processor or because it's reading the base speed of the CPU @ 400mhz, which is higher than any of the overclocked speeds it offers me on my wing.
5) Is there anything else important to know about his phone? The last thing I want for the guy is to take his phone with promises if grandeur, and hand him back a paperweight without answers.
1) Depends on what brick
if you have hardspl'd and it just failed flashing the OS then you should be able to recover.. providing that you can get into bootloader mode.
if you are flashing the radio and it fails then you own a paperweight..
2) Hardspl on the hermes is simple - just read the thread and its easy
So for the Hermes, you flash the OS seperate from the Radio? Or are you talking about if you're reflashing only the radio?
And if you're not HardSPL and you brick during the OS flash you can't just go into bootloader and flash the RUU to recover the phone?
Well, as an 8525 owner, I'd have to say that flashing ROMs to a Hermes is rather painless and straight forward. I started with the official ROM for WM6 since it covered so many bases. However, I eventually used HardSPL(quite a painless experience) and loaded a ROM to it that didn't take up that much storage.
One word of warning. Make sure that the data connector's in good condition before attempting to flash. If it's not, use the microSD method. This procaution will save you many headaches.
I don't recommend overclocking. 1, it's dangerous. 2, there's few methods out there and many of them are said not to work. 3, by using a ROM with a large page pool you can increase the phone's speed.
Special? Well, that depends on the model.
I'm familiar with the pros and cons of overclocking as I myself have my wing overclocked from 201mhz to 273 and run it that way 24/7/365. Just curious as to how one does it on the hermes since BatteryStatus was a no-go.
Is there a particular wm6.1 rom that anyone would like to recommend? I know itje and ttran do exceptional work for the wings/heralds, but who're the cooks to look out for in the Hermes world?
And what exactly is the SD flash method for Hermes? On mine now that I'm hardspl'ed I can put any .nbh on my sd, rename it to HERAIMG.nbh, put it into bootloader and it'll flash for me.
I've not really delved into 6.1 due to early compatibility issues. I did try one, but I liked Schap's ROM better.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392777
Basicly the same, but you have to name it HERMIMG.nbh. If you don't know how to get to bootloader mode, just push the side OK button, the power button, and the reset all at once. I used SSPL to put HardSPL onto my phone using the microSD method, so even if the data port's busted, all should be fine.
Basically any cooked rom doesn't have a radio rom cooked in. This allows YOU to decide what radio is best for you. My advice is if it works fine, leave it alone... When kingsizeriz says its a total brick he means that it won't work as a phone ever again... However, as a PDA, no worries, just flash a cooked rom with no radio...
Hard SPL is a MUST.... Also see if you can find out if you friends phone is "locked" to a network, you'll have to unlock first using this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
Then Hard SPL, Here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
To use the sd card method for Hard SPL, check out page 116.
Then flash with rom of choice... WM 6.1 is MUCH more stable now, & REALLY quick... Would suggest the PDAViet roms as I seem to find them pretty stable though the later versions of other roms seem ok too (19202 & up).
To flash with sd card - MAKE SURE YOU HAVE HARD SPL INSTALLED....
copy .nbh file to root directory of card and rename to "hermimg.nbh". Put in hermes and go into bootloader. Follow the prompts...
Hope this helps...Cheers....
Can you tell me either how many posts per page you use or what post number to start looking for? I use the max number of posts per page so the number might be different.
And I know he bought the phone from and uses it on AT&T, so I'd imagine it's locked to that.
Also, nobody's mentioned if there's any special steps needed to take to upgrade his phone from wm5 to 6(.1). Are there any?
Post #1160, Has all links for apps needed too...
If you want to sim/cid unlock you can run the unlocker v3to use Any sim card .
If you want to do this then do it 1st. It will upgrade your SPL to 1.10.
THEN Hard SPL... THIS IS A MUST. It wont stop you from bricking your device BUT it will improve your chances of recovering from most accidents....
Get you friend to find any HERMES rom they like (I like PDAViet 19588 at the moment as is VERY speedy) & download. I would recommend using the sd card method as it is safer from silly buggers "accidently" resetting pc or pulling out usb cable and power brown/black outs. All you need is for them to leave the hermes alone for 10 minutes or so while it flashes. Make sure you have better than 50% battery power though as flashing is battery draining... Even via usb it stops charging to flash...
Previous post as links for programs needed. Cheers....
I was trying to upgrade my SX66 from the factory Windows2003 to WM6 with this HELMI_BA_WM6_R0_ installer. I started the install and it crapped out giving me an error saying that it could not communicate with my device and that I needed to plug my device back in and retry it. My SX66 is now stuck on the bootloader as I'm sure the ROM isn't complete, and the installer does nothing now. Can someone please help this noob out? I'd really like to have my phone back lol.

Did you unlock the device first?
In any case, just try to reflash your device back to WM2003 with a stock rom. It does seem to be a bad flash. Also, which OS are you using (XP or Vista)?
Follow this in order to perform the upgrade properly...
Good luck!

I'm running windows version 7. and no i didn't unlock the device. i just ran the installer application (i hadn't found a detailed install manual) i'm not entirely sure how i can re-flash now, because i can't get a usb connection made because it's stuck in the bootloader.

no, the screen that says serial/usb at top and 2.07 at bottom
I just wanted to make sure that we were on the same page
In my opinion (and this is just a theory), Windows 7 (since it is a beta) does not have the necessary drivers to recognize the "usb device". Hence, when you put it in the cradle, it just doesn't see it. Again, this is just a theory...
You may want to get a hold of a machine with XP (that is if you didn't make the one you are using a dual boot). You should be OK if you try to flash via XP.
If everything else fails, you can always use mtty and flash via SD card (the procedure can be found in the wiki).
I had the device synced up before the install. it's just having issues syncing while it's in the bootloader mode. The device actually appears in the usb devices, but doesn't sync. i was thinking that the device might have to be authenticated with local software(on the sx66) in order to sync. I'm using the windows vista drivers. I do have this machine dual boot, but it's not any other version of windows i'm using
Your device does not have to sync in order to up/downgrade. Think about it this way... the RUU will put the device in bootloader anyways.
Just run the installer of the stock rom (the upgrade from Cingular).
@N1cholas: Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just a little confused. Are you expecting MS Active Sync to show as it usually does when you are syncing your phone? If that is the case, it won't happen when on boot loader. Are you getting any error when trying to flash or you haven't tried to flash yet?
Advise:
1. Keep your hopes, don't get despert. Egzthunter is a master
2. Make sure you follow the guide... Step by Step to upgrade.
3. If it'll take you too long to complete the reading and flashing, reset your phone and put it to charge. You won't be able to flash with a dead backup battery. Main and Backup battery won't charge while on bootloader.
Edit: @Egzthunder: Sorry mate, while I was thinking, drinking coffee and writing you had already replied Like I said, your the help master. Once again, I encourage the MODS to propose you to be part of their teem. You're always there to help.
Mark
i'm going to head off to school, but it's not working. when i try to run any mods i get an error saying that it cannot communicate with device.
Yeah! Egz for MODS!!! Woohooo and Xplode too and someday..me! LOL (no i mean it!)

Why do you think I don't trust it?
@N1cholas,
I apologize since I ended up going to bed yesterday night.
I think your best bet will be to find yourself a PC running XP and try the reflash in that since it seems to me that something is going on with the OS.
@red and mark
Thanks for the support, guys!!! But you guys are awesome as well!
yeah, it's weird, it's just not working anymore. It appears in the device list and everything, but in WMDC it doesn't show up, and the rom install wizzards can't communicate with it either. I have been unable to find the upgrade ROM from cingular as it seems that the siemens' page has been removed. Also, I have a 2gb SD drive, but haven't been able to find information about flashing the SX66 from the SD.

You will not see the device in any type of sync software (call it ActiveSync, WMDC, etc). I hvae uploaded the SX66 stock installer from Cingular, so give that a shot
Here you go
SX66Update.exe
Like I said... XP computer. Also, for the SD flashing, you need to look for something called mtty and instructions on how to use it.
the proper solution
1.MTTY method for unblocking bootloader mode
2.Upgrade the same way as in Vista to stock rom
3.Sim Unock, Repartition DOC
4.Upgrade vista way to any rom you like
there are guides in WIKI about this
egzthunder1 which version extrom version and radio are in this rom - the one you sharing? As you know i make public BA shipped rom collection, and any rom which is not there is welcomed

Hey xplode,
To be perfectly honest, I haven't flashed 2003 since 2006, so I would be lying if I told you. Feel free to add it to your database if you wish. FYI, this is the upgrade that Cingular Wireless used to offer when the SX66 was still available in the at&t website.
MTTY doesn't have a USB option, it's only giving me COM1, COM2, COM3...

PLEASE READ THE *FAQ* BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS OR LOOK AT *THIS* THREAD THANKS TO RZASHARP
ALSO DEFINITELY CHECK OUT THE COMPLETE VIDEO GUIDE TO EVERYTHING *HERE* THANKS TO [★]
This Guide is designed ONLY for HD2 with 512 Mbytes ROM. If you are unsure then goto Settings, System, Device Information, Hardware Information and look at the Flash Size.
If you have a LEO with 1024MB ROM then please use *THIS* guide.
Before starting, backup anything you might want to keep after the new Rom has been flashed as all contacts, emails, texts, notes, Internet BookMarks WILL be lost!!
PimBackup is good and free (copy any mms attachments to your storage card or computer seperately)
*ONCE YOU HAVE FLASHED A HARDSPL ITS PERMANENT. YOU DONT NEED TO DO IT AGAIN WHEN FLASHING NEW ROMS OR RADIOS*
*DO NOT start another process while the flashing process is taking place*
*DO NOT click off of the status bar... Let it stay in the foreground*
*DO NOT let the Screensaver (on your pc) activate*
Any of these can lead to a bad flash and possibly brick your phone
*FLASH HARDSPL BEFORE FLASHING ANY CUSTOM ROMS OR RADIOS*
1. YOUR DEVICE MUST HAVE AT LEAST 50% BATTERY POWER FIRST BEFORE ATTEMPTING EACH STAGE
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
2. FLASH HARDSPL (REQUIRED!! DO THIS BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE)
The Original HardSPL Thread is *HERE*
NOTE: If you have Vista or Windows 7, update WMDC to v6.1 *HERE* first
NOTE: Turn OFF any AntiVirus Program first as it WILL interefere with the flash (there is NO harmful code in the program)
Installing HardSPL4 via ActiveSync with USB Lead (thanks to Bepe)
Note: HardSPL CANNOT be installed via microSD Card.
IMPORTANT: To install/uninstall this HSPL3 there must be any SPL version from this list on your device:
SPL 1.42.0000, SPL 1.62.0000, SPL 1.66.0000, SPL 2.07.0000, SPL 2.08.0000, SPL 2.10.0000, SPL 3.03.000
To Uninstall you can flash a Stock ROM via SD card or use HSPL3 application (You need select 2.08.0000 or 3.03.0000 in the choose screen)
1. Download HardSPL4 package from *HERE* and extract to an empty folder
2. Synch Phone with PC in Windows Mobile!!! It has to be connected to activesync or WMDC via USB cable
3. Run HSPL4.exe from your pc and read all the text carefully
4. When finished reading click next in the HardSPL program
5. The program will now check the usb connection and enter bootloader screen (tri colour)
*You can select between 2.08.HSPL 2.08.0000 HSPL3.03.0000 or 3.03.HSPL. This is to avoid people with 1024LEO's installing an incompatable version and bricking their device*
Android / WP7 / MAGLDR don't support HSPL3.03/OSPL3.03.
You need HSPL2.08 to run Android / WP7 / MAGLDR
6. Select 2.08.HSPL OR 3.03HSPL for HardSPL and click NEXT.
7. Your choice will be flashed to your phone.
8. When its finished the phone will reboot.
9. Click ok to terminate program.
10. Congrats, you just flashed HardSPL.
NOTE: You can also install HARDSPL by entering Bootloader mode manually, then running the HSPL4.exe program once you see 'USB' at the bottom of the tri-colour screen.
*Go into BootLoader Mode (turn off phone, then press and hold the VOLUME DOWN then Press and hold the POWER button. After about 3 seconds the tri-coloured screen should appear). Verify the screen shows the SPL or HardSPL you installed*
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
To Remove HardSPL from your Device or Flash back a Stock Rom and Stock SPL for Warranty Purposes
You can remove the HSPL by flashing an original SPL from microSD card OR by running the HSPL4 application (You need select 2.08.0000 or 3.03.0000 in the choose screen).
* You can also use the microSD Card method to flash back your Stock Rom and Stock SPL that you originally had on your phone*
- Download a shipped Rom from *HERE*
- Rename the extension to .zip
- open it with winzip and extract the RUU_signed.nbh file to a folder
- Rename it to LEOIMG.nbh and copy it to the root of a microSD card thats been formatted to FAT32
- Insert your storage card into your phone
- Enter Bootloader and follow onscreen instructions to flash
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
3. DOWNLOAD AND FLASH YOUR PREFERED ROM
NOTE: Check the Roms Thread for any specific Flashing instructions. If there arent any then you can use the following guide.
Flashing Via ActiveSync
1. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your computer
2. REMOVE SIM and microSD CARDS!! (this is a precautionary measure and is not compulsory)
3. Turn phone back on and wait until it syncs with your PC
4a. If your Rom is a .exe (customRUU.exe is already included in the Rom file) then run the file
4b. If your Rom is a .nbh file then run the CustomRUU.exe from the Roms Folder (if one isnt included then download it *HERE*)
5. Follow onscreen instructions to set up your New Rom
6. Once phone has gone through the customisation procedure then replace Sim and microSD Cards
7. Perform a Hard Reset to clear any leftover data from your previous Rom (see intructions at bottom).
8. Set up phone as required and job done.
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
NOTE (PLEASE READ): If you flash a Stock Rom via microSD Card then it will overwrite your HardSPL with a stock SPL included in the nbh file. This does not apply to custom roms as they do not include an SPL. BE CAREFUL!!
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
4. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
4. FLASH PREFERED RADIO (OPTIONAL)
For more information about compatible Radios go *HERE*

FAQ FOR FLASHING HTC HD2 (LEO)
Q. I can't get it working I need help.
A. If you need help you do need to provide as much detailed information as possible or we cant do anything.
What process are you trying to do? Installing HardSPL? Flashing Radio? Flashing Rom?
List each step you completed and where you got the error with the exact error code you was given if you got one.
Also exactly what operating system do you have on your pc?
If you do not provide this and just leave a message saying "I cant get it working, what do I do?" then I will know you havent looked at the FAQ before posting and you will be referred here.
--------------------------
Q. What is a Radio?
A: The Radio is the Firmware that works between the Operating System and the Cellular Hardware. It handles the Sound, Camera, GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi, Phone Calls, etc. The Radio must be compatable with the ROM's Operating System or you may experience problems with your sound and camera.
--------------------------
Q: What is the difference between SPL, SSPL and HardSPL?
A: SPL (secondary program loader) is part of the firmware that allows your phone to flash Roms, Radios, Splash Screens. Carrier locked so you can only use it to flash Roms from your own carrier.
SSPL (soft secondary program loader) is a temporary way to allow your phone to flash custom roms only (not radios). This doesnt give your phone the protection that HardSPL gives you.
HardSPL (as the name sugests) is installed permanently and allows you to flash anything to your phone. Its patched to protect you against bricking in the event of a bad flash and will let you get back into the bootloader to restore your system when a stock SPL wont. Always the best thing to have.
---------------------------
Q: What is the difference between ROM and RADIO?
A: The Rom is the operating system and included patches, tweaks and programs. The Radio is a seperate part of the firmware on the phone that handles all communation related matters such as signal, gps, bluetooth, camera, wifi and sound. Newer Radios to include improvements or fixes in older version, or even just to compliment an existing Rom or network so a newer Radio isnt neccessarily better. Radios also need to be matched to the correct Rom so you cant just put any Radio and Rom together.
---------------------------
Q: How do Stock ROMS differ from Cooked ROMS?
A: Stock Roms usually have extra 'bloatware' added which take up extra space on the phone. Custom Roms are stripped down to provide more space and most are tweaked to provide a faster more stable Operating System. Every chef is different so you have to look around the forums to see which Rom is best for your needs.
---------------------------
Q: What happens if I flash a Stock Rom via microSD Card?
A: Flashing a stock rom via microsd card will overwrite your rom, radio, splashscreen and SPL with the ones included on the stock rom. With previous devices I believe the HardSPL couldnt be overwritten this way but as bepe developed this version it must have been done differently. Stock Roms can safely be flashed via activesync and this method will flash the Rom, Radio and SPlashscreen but will not overwrite the HardSPL with a Stock SPL.
---------------------------
Q: Can I download official roms from the HTC Website?
A: Use the following serial number on the respective HTC site (thanks to mooooooa):
World Wide English (WWE) - Serial: HT9AZNW00968
South East Asia (Asian WWE) - Serial:HT01XNW03437
Denmark: (DAN) - Serial: HT9B6NW00167

Hi Guys. I posted the text below a few days ago in the general section/questions thread but it seams the thread is not so popular .
I just got my hands on the pre-production LEO device (demo device I guess) and I have a couple of questions (this is my first WiMo phone, I have experience with Android and Symbian devices).
Pre-production devices seem to be "unlocked". Besides being SIM unlocked it seems to be SuperCID-ed as well. The latter obviously allows me to flash stock ROMs regardless of the county signature, right?
Now how about cooked ROMs? I persume I would need HardSPL as any other production device? Or does SuperCID have anything to do with the HardSPL?
or
Having the SuperCID-ed device I don't need the GoldCard?
I have tried searching the forum but I believe that my lack of WiMo terminology is slowing me down.
Thanks for any input in advance.
Hi I was hoping you could answer a few of my queries on flashing ect
1. SSPL seems like a better path to go down as it stops any warranty voiding, which means I can still get my phone repaired in the future - good . However how come most people always wait for HSPL? Im guessing its because HSPL only has to be ran once or something, so everytime you want a new rom from then on, theres no need to flash so no risk of bricking? Whats the pro's and con's of using HSPL or SSPL ? ( I personally was more keen on SSPL as my warranty isnt affected )
2. How come some rom chefs say that their roms cant be used with SSPL and you have to wait for HSPL ???
3. What are the possible errors/outcomes when something goes wrong when flashing with SSPL? how does a phone become bricked and are there any ways to recover it?
4. Whats with goldcard? is that only when someone needs to flash official roms if there particular leo is branded to a particular GSM? Mine is an unbranded, unlocked model so will I never have to worry about goldcard?
5. If my device does become bricked and there are no ways to unbrick it, what can I do to get a repair ect? someone suggested bunging it in a microwave for 10 seconds and then sending it off under my warraty claiming that I turned the phone off one day, and the next it wouldnt turn on (seems quite a clever idea, but a little extreme)
6. Can someone explain to me all about the radio? it seems to be a key part in flashing. What is it exactly, Im guessing its more complex than the fm radio lol, but I dont understand what it does to the phone, and I see only certain radio versions and compatible with certain rom versions. Also I see that flashing wih SSPL means you can only change OS's and splash screens, so will that create certain problems if you want change the radio version?
7. Im planning on flashing to THIS rom, for speed and performance while keeping some eye candy (Also I want to try windows mobile 6.5.3) is this a good choice?
Thanks all my questions for now, I would be SO appreciative if you guys could help me out as flashing is quite a scary concept for a £500 device
I hope someone will help me

If your phone has been CID Unlocked (SuperCID) then you will be able to flash Stock Roms from other carriers but I think you will still need to use SSPL to flash Cooked Roms.
Hope that helps.

1. HardSPL is always the best way to go if available as once you have it on your phone theres minimal chance of bricking than flashing without it as you will always be able to get back into the bootloader to flash a stock rom if anything goes wrong. Even if you put HardSPL on your phone you can always flash back a stock SPL in the event you need to return it for warantee purposes.
2. I would guess that those Roms include maybe a Splash Screen or Radio which cant be flashed using SSPL.
3. Theres always a chance that something can go wrong in whatever you do. HardSPL gives you the ability to get back into the bootloader and flash a stock rom if you need to recover your device.
4. GoldCard is for flashing Stock Roms from other carriers. If your phone is unlocked then that means it is sim unlocked and not carrier unlocked (SuperCID) therefore you would still need to use goldcard if you wanted to flash a Rom that isnt directly from your carrier.
5. If your phone does become bricked and you dont have HardSPL to recover it then there are many ways you can try to get a new one under warantee. My favourite is pouring sulphuric acid over it and saying aliens broke into your house and tried mating with it but you can go with your own idea if you want to lol.
6. The Radio really isnt a radio haha. Its a seperate firmware that handles all the communication related parts of the phone. This includes the signal, bluetooth, wifi, sound, camera and gps. Until HardSPL is released the only way to change the Radio is to flash a stock rom which always includes a radio via goldcard method.
7. Thats the cooked Rom I flashed on my phone yesterday and its a very fast and stable Rom with no bugs that I can see. The download exe file includes the SSPL so unless you want to change the radio first its just a case of synching and flashing.
Hope these answers helped and good luck with your flash. The first one is always the hardest but do everything by the book and you shouldnt have any problems
Thanks for all the help, Im glad I didnt flash with SSPL just yet, I think I will wait for HSPL as it seems that I can still get my warranty back with it (but I just thought, what if you had to send it in for it not turning on or something, and they found a way to get it running, they would then see the spl was changed as I would not have had the chance to change it back)

that isnt directly from your carrier? what do you mean, mines totally unbranded and sim free ect, so It doesnt come from a carrier, meaning I dont need goldcard right?
(Heres another question while your around, I went to send a massive text to all my contacts, ( I changed it in the registry so I could have more than 10 recipetents so thats not the problem) wishing them a happy new year, and It appears that it is not working, even after applying the hotfix some messages are in the outbox and some in the sent items folder. Whats with that?
Thanks so much for answering, especially this early in the year/morning (haha) happy new year to you sir!

If it was sim free then you might be ok flashing any stock rom but I cant garentee it. It will soon tell you if you cant so give it a go.
Might just be overloaded as there are quite a few people texting at this time and I havent been able to send a text on my phone for the last hour lol. Thats why I always send mine out early to beat the queue
Happy new year to you too I hope you have a great one

ok maybe thats it but whatever, I might try and apply some fixes for the sms ive seen around here. Hey when do you think the HSPL will be out, Im itching to flash my device
Official ROM upgrade - error 260
I have downloaded the official 1.48 upgrade exe from HTC. I have a choice of computers, win 7 64 bit or win xp 32 bit on which to do the update. I have tried both following the instructions within the package and both get to the verification stage and stop with error 260 - no connection. Can anyone tell me precisely what to do to get around this?
My HTC is a purchased unlocked device and I can explore the 16 GB card via Explorer on either PC

I would recommend using the windows xp system to flash as its more stable.
What method did you use to flash the Rom? You need to do it via GoldCard method described just follow the link in the first post and follow all the instructions to the letter.

I was following the instructions given in the ROM Upgrade software downloaded from the HTC site. It undertakes a verification of your phone software, but for some reason keeps saying it cannot connect with it. I had it connected via a USB cable. Maybe I need to speak with HTC on Monday.
I thought it might be Kaspersky stopping it, but switching that off didn't fix it. Perhaps I haven't got the computer sync'd correctly with the phone. Its not very obvious.

Even if you have an unlocked phone you may still have to use the goldcard method to flash a stock rom.
SOLVED
Simply needed to instal WMDC.

Hi
I'm the very proud owner of a HTC HD2.
When trying to install most tweeks / .cabs the phone says unsuccessful cannot install due to invalid or no certificate.
I have CERegEditor installed on PC. is there a simple reg change or app to overcome this? I have searched in this forum...but not been able to find.
Many thanks..
Rob
Hi and welcome to XDA fellow tmobile uk user
tmobile blocks changes to the registry, there are 2 solutions to this
a cab file is a simple installation file for your phone, people here will make these tweaks into cab files, download them from the device and install them onto your device and restart the phone
the other solution is to flash your phone to another rom, either stock rom or custom rom makes no difference
i am currently using artemis 5.5 and it is 10000x better than the tmobile stock rom
hope this helps!

hi Mr CGREC92....
If you do flash the rom, say, to the latest official HTC updated ROM, does this create problems with your warranty on the Tmobile phone?
thanks cgrec92,
any problems in flashing an new radio or rom on uk tmobile? how about getting tmobile setting ?
Bandare and RobLion, flashing the first time may be a scary thing but I assure you its much easier than you think and the whole process lasts about 5 minutes.
The phone and text messaging settings are on the SIM card, not on the phone, flashing a new ROM will not affect this.
As soon as the phone turns on for the first time after a flash, it prompts you to connect to the Internet using your data connection. Select your operator from the list as Tmobile and the phone will do the rest for you.
To summarize, nothing changes to your phone, text, or internet settings.
You will however need to perform a hard reset after a flash which wipes data from your phone such as your contacts, photos and text messages. A simple backup program, I use Microsoft MyPhone will back all this up in a couple of minutes, and after the flash you can re-download them.
After that all that's left to do is add in all your little shortcuts to the People Tab and Internet Quicklinks etc
Job complete
The flashing will void your warranty, but you can return to how the phone was in a couple of minutes, thus getting your warranty back, i'll explain
To flash your phone, you will download a little program from the first post on this forum called HSPL which modifies the bootloader of the phone allowing you to install any ROM you want
If you send your phone off for repair, the first thing these people check is your SPL, if they see it has been changed to HSPL they will not repair your phone. But by flashing your phone with the original tmobile rom that came with the phone (downloaded from the second post on this forum) through the microSD card will restore the SPL and your original ROM, voila your warranty is restored
To flash your phone, you will download a program called CustomRUU and a .nbh file, put these both into the same folder and connect your phone by USB to your computer, do not flash through the microSDcard unless you are trying to restore your warranty because this will change other settings on the phone, unlike the USB method will simply install the new ROM. Connect your phone through Active Sync, then run CustomRUU and follow the instructions
Your phone will then install the ROM
Hard reset (As soon as you turn the phone on, hold down VolUp and VolDown)
Your phone will now be nice and fresh with your new awesome ROM
Hope this helps, it's much easier than it sounds, follow the sticky threads for installing a Custom ROm and HSPL for more detailed info
Oh and let's not forget the advantages of this
Instead of that crappy Web'N'Walk you will have Opera
You will have the YouTube app
You will have more freedom and a MUCH MUCH MUCH more stable and fast ROM
cgrec92,
I can not thank you enough for taking the time to give advice. I'm thinking of installing EnergyROM....what made you chose artemis?
no problem mate, ive been in your situation not a couple of weeks ago
flashing is the best thing you can do for your phone in my opinion
and after a bit of flashing you can familiarize yourself with the MTTY process and make the process even faster!
energy rom is very good, its one of the best out there, I have however heard there are some issues with fast battery drain? but above all its a very good rom
i use artemis 5.5 because it is almost identical to the original rom that comes with the phone, with tweaks to make it more stable, MUCH faster and smoother, everything updated, has a document reader tab, in my opinion it's the most stable
I have been using for some 5 days now and have found NO bugs whatsoever
as opposed to the odd 80 bugs in the tmobile ROM
its all a matter of taste my friend, if you dont like the energy rom, install another one!
theyre all being constantly updated with the latest updates, builds, and tweaks
flashing is fun!
oh and I forgot to add that some custom ROM's require a specific radio and this must be flashed before the ROM is installed, this is dead simple and takes half a minute
let me explain
a radio is a piece of software which controls communications such as phone calls, text messaging, 3G, internet etc. different radios have different effects, for example better signal, better battery life, better data handling
if i remember correctly the t-mobile rom comes with radio v 2.04
at the moment there is a radio v 2.08 again it's a matter of preference, find which one gives you the best signal and battery life!
to install is simple, the radio comes in a .nbh aswell, usually about 25mb which is very small
just like installing a ROM, put this .nbh in the same folder as the CustomRUU and flash the radio using CustomRUU, just like flashing a ROM!
you will not need to do a hard reset, when the phone restarts your new radio will be installed and ready to use
I guess i'm going to become a flasher now!
Thank you for advice. i'll post any further questions in ROM forum after i decide which Rom to go with.
thank you.
HI,
agreed I have a t-mobile hd2 and it's the best option flash a new rom, also I sent my phone back under warranty and fwas ully fixed no quible just had to back out the hpsl as pointed out earlier in this thread it all works...
thanks daveyg99,
i guess you both know its a big decision to make your 1st flash.....gulp...brave pill taken.....just chosing radio and rom now.........
good man
any problems just post back on xda youll get answers within a couple minutes
sorry cgrec92,
question......im looking at HSPL......it says check spl version is 1.42.0000 check by holding volume down button and reset....
how do i do this?
turn your phone off
press the button to turn your phone back on again but hold down the VolDown button
it'll bring you to a 4-coloured screen with a bit of text
it should say spl 1.42.0000
take the battery out and put it back in and turn your phone back on normally
job done
thanks done it....1.42..ok.. I hadn't turned the phone off first doh!
hspl done
great work
now all you have to do is choose your ROM
ok going for energyROM 21892 with cookie...the more stable one......dl now......42min left...
good choice my friend
the download file will include a .nbh file, make sure to rename this file as RUU_Signed.nbh if it hasn't been done so already
the download might include a CustomRUU which will be used to flash the ROM
if it doesnt then this can be downloaded from the sticky threads aswell
let us know how it goes
Hello.
This is my first post, so please be kind to me!
I've spent the past few weeks trying to get my head around what to do in order to flash my HD2 which is on the t_mobile network
The original rom 1.43 i think is driving me crazy and I now dont care if I change the rom and it invalidates the warenty!
In order to HSPL I need to SPL first, but will my device allow this?
I've read through so many threads that I am completely confused and dont know which way to turn, never mind which thread to re-read.
Can someone point me to the sspl, HSPL to upgrade to 1.66
Thanks
Glyn
oh its the 512 version
you are over confusing yourself.
download hspl 2
instal it - choose whichever hspl you like (may as well go for 2.08.hspl)
flash whatever rom you like from usb. (don't forget to flash a compatible radio either before or straight after.)
Thanks for your reply......
so downloan the HSPL from here?
'forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477'
and as I run the program I'll get the option of which version to install?
What should I look for to make sure that the radio is compatible with the rom?
Thanks again and sorry for my ignorance
Glyn
best thing you can do is to read a lot. No need to do enerything in one mad dash.
get HSPL2 from HERE - end of the first post (but read the post, dont just skip to download, )
run it as administrator (right click, run as administrator)
for best results use a usb port on the back of your PC (i.e one directly on teh motherboard, not an external usb slot) it will ask what version you want to install. just go for 2.08.hspl (not 2.08.0000) and let it do its thing. the authors say you should match the version to the rom (so 1.43.hspl for roms that are 1.43 or 1.48, 1.66.HSPL for 1.6 based roms, etc, but it isn't critical, most will run on any HSPL, so dont go changing every time you flash a new rom, no need. If it doesnt work then change it.)
As for radio tips, a radio with .51. in the number, (eg 2.09.51.03) will NOT work with any rom that has the 576meg ram, enabled.
If you flash a rom and all you get when you restart is a grey screen, chances are the radio doesnt match. Boot to bootloader and flash the radio.
But most of all, read stuff.
What about shipped rom's that are .exe files? Do they include radios with it? Also, is there a post you can point me to that has a list of compatible radios with different rom's?
that's where reading comes in. the whole process has so many variants that there is no simple "a b c" that covers everything.
yes the exe includes radio (and also spl if you use sd card to flash -stay away from sd card, use usb and if anything goes wrong you just boot to bootloader and re flash)
the chefs give you all the infoyou need in the first couple of posts. the sticky threads in the rom development section will tell you how to do everything, and any problem you encounter has beenwritten about already. so read, search and read.
I suggest you flash Stock WWE 1.66 ROM first so you can have a feel of how much improvement
has been done from 1.43
you can download it in HTC website.
Thanks for your help so far..
I would like to go for the 1.66 official ROM first, so I'll find that on here first and find the exe file so I dont have to mess about with compatible radio's.
Just before I HSPL it, I would like a copy of the original 1.43 T-Mobile ROM, so better get searching.
Thanks again
Glyn
the original 1.43 T-Mobile ROM is on HTCs website so get it from there as a backup
THANKYOU!!
Thankyou so much for your help and guidance.
Last night I decided to just do it - the phone was so poor I couldn't take it anymore.
3 hours from start of backing up, to installing HSPL2, to flashing with 1.66, anf then restoring data
I cant believe the transformation - I am so pleased I didnt throw it at a wall!!!
So a massive thanks to the members of this community
im in the same boat... got a stock uk hd2 on tmobile and wasn't to flash a new rom but the information is overwhelming and im scared I will flash a wrong rom and kill my phone :0)

theres nothing to it. the 'normal' hd2 which you do have, is about the safest phone to flash in the world today, with HSPL2. The 'radios killing phones' problem that started last week is specific to the t mobile US model only, , the one with 1 gig rom.
If you install HSPL on your phone, and then only flash over USB, the very worst that will happen (from a software point of view) is that the phone stops at a grey screen, and/or only boots into bootloader, so you boot into bootloader, you flash something else, and it's fixed.
The T Mo UK stock rom is available to download as backup, (as is o2 and voda for anyone looking) in the 'LEO official roms' thread in rom development, first post, first link, first folder (1.43)
At any time, you can flash that rom from sd card (look it up if you need to) and restore everything, spl, radio and rom, , to factory settings.
In all honesty, so long as you are careful, methodical, don't pull out USB cables halfway through, laptop battery dies, etc , then you are more likely to get bricked from some freak incident, like , umm, battery dieing, heh.
Fear not! be smart, be careful, try to understand what you are doing and why at each step, read up on what an spl is, and the job is , as they say, sorted.

Thanks.. just one more thing.
Saw on youtube that i have to format my SC card

is this so and is this referring to the sd card in the HTC or my own sd card used to download the 1.66 onto?
