Split the Bill - Freeware - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi all.
I have never developed for windows mobile before so thought I would try it.
Made a little app that helps you split the bill at a restaurant.
Not pretty, and probably not that good, but hey I find it handy.
The idea is you fill in the Bill, the gratuity and the number of people to split it by and it gives you an amount that each should pay. This is rounded up to make sure you pay at least the bill + the gratuity.
Anyway, take a look, you may like you may not
No installer, just unzip and run. Only tested on a Touch so no idea what it will work on.
Needs .net 2 framework though.
As requested a screenshot is attached.
*Edit* Having looked a the screen shot and used it a bit more I realise the layout is rubbish, so no functionality change but a nicer layout
30/10/08
New version - Can click on Total to Pay, Each pay or Total paid to enlarge the value

There was something similar to this already, called Tippy. Anyhow everyone will ask for screenshots, so cough up

So there is!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431661
And it is nicer looking than mine lol

Actually I prefer yours Dave - it gives more information about the actual bill and total bill. True, it requires more input, but I prefer the extra bits .
If you could tweak the layout as you planned to make it look nicer (good tip to make it popular: give it a manilla theme!), I think you're onto a winner!

As requested a screenshot is not attached.

Doh!! edited lol.
I will look into how I could at least give it some kind of nice look, manila or otherwise
Thanks

mm not so good at this, I have no idea how to convert my buttons to include images in .net lol
So copped out and just went with a black look for now

This will come in handy when i go to Canada next month, Cheers mate

New Version.
Changed the Split button so that it appears on the number pad not the bottom left soft button.
If you click on Total to Pay, Each Pay or Total paid you will get an enlarged view of the details (for those like me with fuzzy eyesight after a big meal!!)
Click the enlarged text to hide it again.
Still working on some kind of themeing

hahaha nice apps, let me try this, thanks man!

Home screen plugins ("CommCEntric" & "Retro")

Hi
I would like to bring your attention to 2 free homescreen plugins i've made.
The first is CommCEntric - it places 2 icons on the home screen to quickly switch on & off the bluetooth and wifi radios.
You may already know of its existence, but I thought to further advertise it
The other one is Retro - it's like an all-new version of RJTime, it's a totally customizable analog clock, and it's a new release (first released a few days ago)
These plugins were also made with "eye-candiness" in mind... because i feel like WM5 and 6 has a lot to do yet in this aspect.
Please see my page at http://web.gemini.dynalias.net/default.asp?c=index_ek.xml
looks good
Can you make this so it works with pocket pcs? I have a att8525 and would like to use this but I can't this is for smartphone only.

Iphone Keyboard Layout!!!!!!!!

i tried the iphone today i was so impressed with the keyboard input function.
specialy that when you release your finger the key input appears, and if you press the wrong key just move your finger to the next key and release. have tried to find a similar app for my WM6 based device but there is nothing like it out there!
can someone please make a keyboard input app like the iphone for the WM devices.
the iphone really sucks BUT there is one big thing i like with it is that the software is so easy to use and so dam logical, have to give creds to the software developers at mac....

Dude, I totally know what you mean. And not only the keyboard, but also that finger-flick thing. You know, the one where you kind of touch the screen with an up or down motion and it kind of flows... When is one of the WM developers going to get off their ass and make that possible on my Hermes! Sheesh!

You can check Resco Keyboard 5.11 pro version. It has all the features with look and feel of iphone keyboard. Pretty finger friendly too.
I think some of the posts here are unfair.
Yes you can search but you're wasting your time. I've been looking for a better keyboard for wm for years.
PocketCMKeyboard has an old version which sort of works, sometimes a bit slow. It has some skins which are close to the iPhone style but again you'll need to search for them, find the right version, copy the right files to the right places, cross fingers and it will be okay. I used one for a while, some drawbacks but looked pretty good. Depending on the version of PocketCMKeyboard, it would bomb out with a time thing that meant you needed to download the new version straightaway. There's a new version but the skins are different and the old skins don't work with the new PocketCMKeyboard and you need to search for those as well. There isn't, I think, an iPhone skin for the new version.
The stock HTC keyboard qwerty thing is pretty good and is on a lot of the 6.1 roms. It works, looks pretty ugly but it works. There's a new 2.0 version you can search for and someone clever here is working on a qvga version. It looks a lot like the iPhone keyboard. You can serach for that as well, look out for version 2.0 rather than 1.5. It's not ready yet but we are hopeful.
Search on here sucks a lot of the time. If you think finding what you want is incredibly frustrating it's because it is. Shouting SEARCH all the time doesn't really help anyone, especially if they can't find something that matches their question.
Unfortunately, while I like my HTC Touch and enjoy tinkering with it, programming for it and trying out all sorts of registry hacks and tweaks to make it better, the market is going to run away with products like the iPhone which don't require all that extra work.
HTC + xdadevelopers + time = acceptable
Let's keep it polite.
I did one a while ago for PCM v14
You may want to try the link labeled iClone in my signature. I used much of the actual iPhone graphics and layout.

Hi,
FingerKeyboard2
PocketCM Keyboard
Haha, i personally think it is the hardware problem, the capacitive touchscreen will do all the trick that iphone will do. The software is partially at fault too as someone had said in this thread.

[IDEA] Vista Flip 3D-like task manager

Who can make task manager that looks like Flip 3D from Vista using PocketCM Framework. It will be very useful
I don't think that it's too hard to make
Forget about Dynamo 2, it's ugly and not 3D

oh!
it's hard to code it using JavaScript
i started to make apps many times, i hate VS and C#
old Borland C++ Builder for life!
well if you use the search tool or go like 3 to 5 pages back... youll see a post that i have about dynamo2... its very similar... if you ask the original author, he might let you pick up where he left off... its an awesome program... it just needs to be lighter in weight, updated, added landscape support, less bugs, and added features... it sounds like a lot, but the program is already off to a great start and is very usable in the current state that its in

Err, you should probably read someone's full post before chiding them about using a search tool, since he specifically mentioned he didn't like Dynamo 2 because it wasn't 3D. Plus it doesn't sound like he has a lot of experience with programming, so adding effects into Dynamo probably would help him much.
As an aside, do you know the author's email address? It'd be nice if we could get the source code for that.

i didnt see that he mentioned dynamo... but i wasnt chiding, i was merely directing him in the direction of my reference. theres enough ppl on xda who yell at the search challenged, thats never my aim. i like helping when i can. i just thought that the code itself might help a developer with the task of creating something vista like. im not sure the direct email address but the support email address is [email protected]...
although dynamo isnt 3d... it is still very fingerfriendly... maybe whoever takes on this task can set a preference option... 2d and 3d.
everyone who is interested in helping to notify the developer to continue work on this great app, please email him/her
i would like to see more work done on this.
im diggin the way sony is making thier little task manager, well i dont even know if it is a task manager or not yet, it might just be some application selection screen included with all the erricson bloatware:

Update: It looks like the website admin is trying to get marek (the author) to release the source to google code. Anyone willing to take a look at it and see if they can work on it for future improvements?
I think that dynamo isn't a good way to go - it's horribly slow (at least on my wizard). GVC's idea about using pocketCM framework might be better. Just imagine this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365656
as a task manager It looks great and what is more important - it's really fast, even on slower devices.
Also, since it seems to already be in 3D, achieving different thumbnail transitions (like flip3D) should be possible. However IMO flip3D effect is rather useless. I prefer to use a coverflow-like task switcher (and i do use it on my Ubuntu - looks like this).

I would love to use something like this for a task manager. It could replace the Cube in touch flow (since I don't use that anyway).
Yes but unfortunately the PocketCM framework is not open-source, so unless you can get the author to creat that task manager for you, it;s wishful thinking.

Naughty by Nature Theme + music Giveaway (wm6.1 Rhodium)

Some months ago, hoping to win a Touch Pro2 from Microsoft and Naughty by Nature, I entered a contest on facebook. I didn't win the device, but I did win a Naughty by Nature theme by xda-devs' own PROBEX. I didn't have anything to put it on, and if I had, I'm not a huge fan. So it has sat unused.
I figure someone should enjoy it, so I'm looking for someone to give it to. FYI, I believe it to be winmo6.1 only. I'm not sure xda-devs is the best place to find a TP2 user still on 6.1, but there is music too. Windows Mobile told me that the prize pack zip includes "Naughty's new single, the .cab file of the TouchFlo 3D Naughty By Nature skin, as well as the full Independent Leaders CD".
EDIT: Giveaway Closed. PMs to winners going out soonish.
Subject to change at my whim, my plan is to offer it to (in the following order)
the most deserving (as determined by me) developer of any freeware or donateware (or similarly generousware) tweaks, software, ROMs etc who asks for it or
the first senior xda-devs member to ask for it or
the first of anyone else to ask for it.
Ask in this thread if you're interested, PM requests will likely be ignored. I'll end the giveaway at my own whim, so don't dilly-dally. If you're a developer of something that's not linked in your signature, and want priority consideration based on it, link to it in your post.
WOW!!!! if nobody has requested it... I would love to have it!!! i been looking for a sweet theme that would go with my brown tmobile phone... that font is off that font is crazy.. I also really like the music on boot up screen.. Let me know if you have it still or not...
I would be more then Happy for the theme. I also entered The contest and didnt win but got a TP2 anyway.

Theme Developer?

I was starting to make some themes on the side for my own purpose and boredom and thought to myself on putting them in the market place. curious though as if I eventually charged 1$ or less do these guys really make that much from one theme if its popular?
Example is aopk where I see 100k + at .99 per/dl. i mean obviously you dont make all that but I'm assuming atleast 50% so is it feasible or am i just thinking to big here.

Just advertise your self over in the main theme section for all of android too and you could possibly make it and get some t of profit if that's the way you want to go.

You get 70% and Google gets 30%. If you're lucky and make something that becomes a big hit you could make some mice pocket change, but I wouldn't quit your day job.
Also make sure you have the rights to any images you might use.. if your charging for stuff that's not yours you'll be inviting trouble.

definitively would be the first place to go and offer it free at first of course because sharing is caring but I'd put it in the epic 4g area because that's where I started my roots with this lol
So a aokp theme thats on the market gets 100k downloads and is a theme that is very basic can get roughly 60k? at 1.00$ per dl? doesnt seem like pocket change to me
