Missing phone functions - no more!

I've been using PocketPC Phone Edition since the first XDA came out. Since then a lot of things has changed, devices gained more memory, became faster, smaller, adopted Bluetooth and WiFi. But one thing remain almost unchanged - phone dialer. It does serve the purpose, but a lot of things are missing and annoys avid cellphone user. You know what I am talking about
For me one of the biggest concern was absence of Calling Card support. I am communicating with our overseas officies couple of times a day on the regular basis and dialing all those numbers is really pain. So, while I was looking for calling card support add-on I came across this piece of software - MobiDial.
It's not a total phone dialer replacement, more like a shell for it. It does everyihng I want and excpect from a phone - calling card support, one hand operation, vibratouch, nice and clean interface.

As you can see, all buttoms are big and nicely placed. Also, you can enable vibra option, so you can actually feel when buttom is pressed.
At the bottm you can see row of icons:
Settings, address book mode (see screenshot below), 4 strars represent speed dial windows where you can also assign pictures, and call log icon.
You can switch in between them by pressing jog left and right and scroll in address book mode by up and down.
As I've mentioned before, the biggest advantage for me is Calling Card support. Programm automaticaly dials International numbers without any users intervention. Actually, you can specify this in the settings: always use card, ask user and bever use it.

Couple of things: current release version doesn't work correctly with Second Edition, but beta with SE support is available upon rewuest from developer. Also, first load takes about 5 sec, but then it pops up instantly, by the way, you can assign harware answer/hangup buttoms to MobiDial

However, I'm stil lmissing one feature: The caller groups, allowing you to assign a ringtone to every group or individual caller. Combined with the Sendrui pocketzenphone application, you might not even look at the screen to know when to answer whom. Any advice?

RingtoneX does this nicely. I have all my contacts filed under Categories in Outlook (like Family, Friends, VIP, Business, etc.). RingtoneX lets me assign ringtones to each individual or by category. It works perfectly. Since you can create any category name you want it makes it real easy. (Only thing I've noticed is it didn't like spaces in my category names like "Friends 1", so I changed my category name to Friends_1 and now it works great).
Anyways, it's only $7 for the software, and it works very well.

no no... tap to select character group and second tap to enter the desired char. So for every char you must tap twice. Looks maybe very slow but give it a try write some test messages and after a while you will improve in write speed

Why do you have to tap first to 'select' a group? Wouldn't it be easier to skip the selection and type an 'a' with a single tap?
Second, Maybe it's a good idea to change the layout to the default layout. ([abc] [def] etc)
But keep up the good work

What might be a good idea is to incorporate a function like to PCMKeyboard http://www.pocketcm.com/index.php
If you tap & hold say the shift key, then a popup with choices appears and you slide over to the choice, that way you keep you same setup and a user only taps once for a letter.

hmm... I can try to make clear TapTap layout. When you want to write on touch-screen with one hand and one finger (thumb) and don't want to concentrate on it (imagine when you are walking the street so you cannot&don't want to concentrate only on your PDA) you need REALLY BIG controls. But when you have big controls you haven't much space for other things like for the program you are writting in. So you want SMALLER keyboard what has BIG controls. And that is exactly what TapTap layout is all about TapTap is also adjusted for all people. You can train your thumb and write very fast but when you don't want or cannot write fast there is no problem TapTapSMS won't rush you. On standart GSM phones you must press button once (perfect state), twice or three times (sometimes even more times) to write desired char and it must be in time limit. In TapTapSMS there is no time limit so you can write how fast you want/can. Of course pressing real buttons is really different than pressing "nothing" on touch-screen. But on PDA you haven't real buttons I mean PDAs without hardware phone keyboard (e.g. Asus P525) or big hardware keyboard like on Vario (BTW "Vario" keyboard is not very comfortable because you must use TWO hands and two fingers).
So I hope you now undrestand
BTW can somebody test it on any slow device (e.g. 200MHz CPU) like Vario? I'm interested if it is usable (fast buttons redrawing) on slow devices. On my A701 it's fast but it has 520MHz CPU...

Hi, I'm using a HTC Prophet, overclocked to 221MHz using the stock ROM 2.2, WM5. Your program runs without hitch and without lagging on my device, probably because I'm not used to the interface and am very slow when using it.
I like the idea of big buttons for one thumb use but it seems very slow to use, but then again, I'm still not used to the interface and it could be just me. Another thing is the space button, I'm used to having a space button below the alphabets, like a computer keyboard. To me that is more intuitive.
Just my 2 cents worth.

BTW TapTapSMS is for now oriented mainly for right-hand users so on the right side you have the most used controls: SPACE and BACKSPACE.

Works fine on my wizard. WM6 touchflo clocked to 247...send lags slightly, but not much more than usual. Overall its a great app. I agree with the spacebar idea...seems like it should b below alpha. keep up the good work

BTW one of the main goals of this program is to reveal programmers that it is possible to make program which can be easily controlled only with your finger (and also with joystick - it's still one-hand controlling) and still is there enough space for other things.
EVERY PROGRAMMER who wants to make FREEWARE program and wants to use this controlling technology is welcome and he/she can FREELY use it and modify it to his/her own needs/ideas (of course it would be nice mention my name in program's credits). And of course there is no need to ask me for any permission... I have done it for the PDAs community FOR FREE
Of course if you wants to use it for commercial product you must contact me for my permission (BTW I have already gave some for now ).

If the keyboard background could be customizable, we can draw the "spacial" keys (\N \M \B) directly onto the background or, even better, we can create separate PNG files (with trasparency) that will be displayed over the corresponding key (so the keys layout will remain fully customizable).

Can not use it - instead of this nice keyboard I have the standard keyboard. I have a russian localized rom and it seems that the probleme is related to that fact

I tried to use with the keyboard but many of our word is with åäö och the keyboard can't "find" the words from T9.

This program has great potential and it is just what i have been looking for, thanks for all your hard work in all your programs, anyways my only problem is that it isn't as quick as i would like it to be, otherwise great software.

All I've got to say is "Bad. . . Ass. . ." lol Great job as usual Tene.

What do you mean, what not fast enough? what kind of device you have?
It runs decently on my 200Mhz device.
If it's the time to suggest that seems to long, you can reduce the dictionnary size, the current one has 21887 words, you can probably get better result with let say 2000 words, I'm sure you don't use stupendous, pasteurization and extemporaneous that often

Tene: next version needs disabling the word suggestion. I cant use it since its replacing the polish text to english.

its a bit faster when i delete the french dictionary and stuff, but maybe in future releases you could have an option to completely turn off the suggestion bar, just an idea

I love this but I have to agree about killing the word suggestion. I tried to type the name Lisa and it kept changing it to kiss, it was really annoying.

great apps, tene. been trying to find something where i can use a finger. t9 takes half the screen and is not ideal. just need some nice skin to go along with it.

*bows down to the developer*...One major grudge for me (with WM) has been the SIP, have tried lots of them but liked none..fancied an iPhone just for the SIP part (rest is crap for me), and now its here...lemme try and and then ill give u the feedback...

when typing SMS in PocketCM, the PCMKeyboard suggestion box blocks the view of the message i am typing.
I would suggest that the suggestion box be setup horizontally and be part of the keyboard. This will avoid this issue. Liked the scrolling in the suggestion box, horizontal scrolling will be nice!
just my wish list!

Great job on this app! However, is there any way for a 3rd party SIP to parse the built in dictionary? Oh yeah, and allow us to disable the word suggestion.

pro:
- nice interface good scrolling e clear view
- nice the real clock with second even if it could be not so readable in day light (in the "action" menù it should be visible a digital clock or a more readable analogic clock)
con/desiderata:
- too many icon to scroll (all the apps and the settings) may be better if you can minimize the program and the setting list in vertical folders.
- nice interface it would be great if with a 2.0 release, dial, contact and messaging are integrated.
- with trinity and lasagna WM6 3.05 some problem with activesync, dunno if the same with other device/OS.
- does'nt display battery charging and sincronizing
- lack of usefull shortcut (music player, weather, or favorites call number)
- some problem with lanscaper/portrait switching
- no theme selection capabilities
- it could be great if you can choose from vertical or orizzontal kind of scrolling apps and setting (imo the orizzontal scrolling (like a book way) its quite bit more natural)
- check the sms/email/mms behaviour of the interface when system is Locked; When receive an sms or a mail the screen, should be locked even with the notify displayed if you want to interact you should unlock screen.

This is Quality Application! Makes my Touch look more like a mobile... kewl...

I agree with Dodba : this software needs a GUI messaging and calls.

This is a nice app I like the look of it. This is a trial version though a license cost 19.95.

Has anyone tried to Skin this?
I've located the skin files on the install directory, but had no success.
They are .bmp but I can't seem to open them or edit.

I think this is a great start and hopefully it continues to see updates because right now it works well, but a little more customization and organization would be nice. Having just every single program and setting link roped into one giant long page that takes 3 minutes to scroll down just isn't for me right now. I imagine if a version 2 is released that addresses the ability to organize it better i'd be all over that for 19.99

Also a weather app would be nice!. not sure wether there is one or not but a slide to lock as well as unlock would be great! another thing that would be nice is a bounce back back to the top of the screen after a predefined time five seconds perhaps?
ouch! slows down horribly when running htc audio manager in the background! thats on my vario 2 with four programs in total running (including phone which it wont turn off!?) and with 8 meg of program memory spare and 11meg of storage mem on the phone.

Just have to edit shell.bmp in photoshop (the other bmp file is for the about page) and save it in the same format. fushia color is for the transparency.
Only one default when changing backround to white to grey (for example) there is no icon transparency It's so ugly...

Well...I would love to see a software where we can have Blinking white LED signal light on the round scroll panel. Unlike HTC TOUCH where they have blinking green led to show that phone is recieving signals, there is no such thing in Diamond. LED flashes only on unread sms, missed calls , incoming calls and on charging the phone. But there is no blinking light for signals. If somebody would make it , that would be great as i love that white light around the ring scroll.

light sensor aplication
here´s one,
use the light sensor to wake up and to put to sleep the diamond like this:
when it senses a for about 3 or 4 seconds (time configurated) and the sensor is 0 for light it turns off or lock the diamond, the same like when the sensor is 30 or above it wakes up the diamond.
And i think that you may choose the two or only one option, like (on+off) or (on or off)

I've asked for it several times, but a tab on TF3D where it shows your usage would be awesome. But, I think that's easier said then done, since no one's done it yet.

i'd like to see a good news reader/ticker as a TF3D tab. ideally it would scroll each headline either across or top to bottom like scrolling through a text message with a tap to open the news item fully.
also would love a tv tab on tf3d that you can configure to use with some of the great tv apps out at the moment. iplayer/myplayer/webtv/spbonline etc. the 'player' would be on the page of the tab similar to the music tab. ie large 'screen' box in the centre of the page/tab with up/down buttons to switch channels

i want an application that will map hardware keys (from my diamond 2) to each application i want for example i want the call button in coreplayer to raise the volume or go forward, and in resco explorer i want it to go back (for example)

A timesheet application
I have yet to see a simple application that can track the amount of time you worked, calculates the total time per day, per week and so on

change voice
it would be nice to have an apps that could change the default voice on the voice command. Kind of like the gps garmins have different voice options.

A finger friendly gym app to enter sets, reps and exercises. would love that.

Would like to see a simple app to control incoming calls:
You are able to set from start time to end time, all calls go to voicemail without ringing, but your alarm clock still works if it fall within the time parameter above and if you like to listen to music and do not like to be disturbed by phone calls.
Now that’s something I could use...

I am looking for a call, data, sms tracker that lets you know how many minutes you have used, your data usage, sms usage, etc. There is LCMinutes which is free, but it can't seem to calculate the balances right, and it is not very easy to use. Someting like phone dashboard has a great GUI but it is only a today plugin, I guess I could use the today plugin page and put phone dasboard on that?

I'd like an application that would make my HTC Diamond (XDA Ignito) beep when I have a message/text waiting.

I would love to have an app who gets me a new GF every week, & with whom my operator doesn't charge me anything. LOL. I believe some nice registry tweak would do.
