The second mini-competition in the Ericsson application awards is now starting and the prizes just got bigger and better!
Submit your members applications to Stage 2 at latest December 9 at 11.59 PM (GMT -08:00, Pacific Time)!
Ericcson, half of Sony Ericcson has announced that they are holding the Ericcson’s Application Awards, Code for Cash 2011 development contest.
The contest, which has a pot of $15,00 euro or around $20,000 American dollars, is open to any team of two or more developers anywhere in the world. The developers must use at least one Ericcson labs API and relate to the theme “Connected Thing”. Members from the full team of Sony Ericcson will help judge the contest.
The contest is in it’s second year. Last year a development team from Ireland won with an application they called “CallerProfiler”. CallerProfiler combined social networking with IP Telephony to display information from social networking sites when a call is received.
The deadline for entries is March 31, 2011 and the winners will be announced in June 2011, and again it’s open to developer teams of 2 or more anywhere in the world. For complete details, and information on how to get the Erricson Labs API kit go to http://www.ericssonapplicationawards.com for more details

Sony Ericsson demands XperiaBlog.net to close.

Sony Ericsson forces us to close XperiaBlog.net
by XB on October 19, 2011
in News
It is with great sadness that we have to bring you the news that this will be the last post on this website. Sony Ericsson has filed a formal complaint about the use of the trademarked ‘Xperia’ name in our domain name and have requested that the domain names, including that of XperiaX10.net, be transferred to them.
Sony Ericsson is alleging that we have used the domain names in “bad faith”. We are stunned and disappointed that Sony Ericsson, a company that we have spent much of our free personal time in promoting, especially the Xperia brand, has decided to take this formal action against us. After all we are just like you, passionate Sony Ericsson users, who have strived to bring the community breaking news and an independent viewpoint.
We do not have the resources to fight Sony Ericsson on this and therefore this is the last you will hear from us. Sony Ericsson has made great strides in its Xperia portfolio, especially in listening to the community. This makes it all the more confusing as to why Sony Ericsson would want to shut us down. We genuinely believe that 2012 could be a bumper year for the company, we just wish we could have been there along for the ride.
All the best.

this is really sad, they were the blog i always went to to get the latest info! Shame Sony Ericsson!
Shame Sony Ericsson!
That's bad, I hope they open up a new site.

Thats utterly shocking, why support developers and custom rom makers on xda then go and force others with the same ideas and in my view not using the xperia name wrongly at all, quite the opposite infact, shame on sony ericsson indeed

Technically SE is correct, Xperia is their trade mark that they have registered no one is supposed to use it. But it's really bad that they are asking to shutdown after having such a success with the blog. If they had a problem with the blog they should told them when they started it.
Yeah i agree from a legal point of view it is very understandable, what SE could have done is taken control of the domains and the blog but kept the starter of the blog and others as moderators, that way they get their xperia name not being misused by unauthorised people but still have the blog going, plus consumers would still be happy as we would still have our beloved blog

Shame to SE for being hard on their fan base. But, legally can they do this? What if XperiaBlog is claimed as one word?
LOL! After 12 years of worship to Ericsson - SE it's the first time that I say and I mean that I'm going Samsung! Enough with the SE bull$hit! Galaxy nexus!! Here I come!!!! :-D
PS: Screw u SE!! $%#*

XperiaBlog has also written some critical posts about updates for the X10 etc. I don't think SE appreciated that.
Another bad turn when the site posted the comparison between Arc S and iPhone 4S when it should've just let the Chinese community handle it...

SE is always sensitive to what sites put down about their product. When you put out something that may reflect negatively, which it did against the Arc S in the camera comparison, it's not a surprised result. Since the site is also using Xperia in its name and actually damaging it's reputation (may be not alot, but it still does). Think about a scenario where I want to know more about the product. I found the site, oh hey, it has Xperia in it. Seems like a good site to find out good reviews. You step in, and you find criticism on it. Would you have a good impression on the product? I've worked on many club sites under SE, and many were closed down for the same reason.
Sites like Mobile-Review was also abandoned for the same reason, alot of premature conclusions and no filtering to what is posted. Not that I want press to censor their opinions, but some opinions/assertions were far from true.

Changing the name of the site would be easy but SE wants the domain name. Setting up another website with the same content would be time consuming and a major pain in the arse.
It's a shame considering all the effort they've put in maintaining it and updating it with the latest info.
And it's not like they were cyber-squatters or anything.
I don't think that stories like
http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/09/0...2-with-1-5ghz-dual-core-4-3-inch-720p-screen/
or
http://www.xperiablog.net/2011/10/1...icsson-walkman-w23i-with-dual-core-processor/
were perceived with pleasure over at SE's HQs... Still a shame though.

Actually this is what happened to me when I first started looking for xperia info some time ago, I thought it was an official site so I was surprised to read some of the posts.
For that reason I can understand why SE have taken this action. On the other hand, theres no reason why xperiablog cannot start up under a fresh name, if they have so many followers already it wont be so hard to spread the word.
They could, but from my knowledge, there are 2 reasons they're demanding the close. First is to prevent any damage to their brand from the site, and the other is to demand the xperiablog domain. I'm sure xperiablog.com will be popping up soon from them, which they have the authority to do since the word "xperia" is their's to begin with. So to prevent any confusions for people who hit SHIFT+ENTER instead of CTRL+ENTER wouldn't be redirected to the wrong site.

XperiaBlog.net shut down by Sony

http://xperiablog.net has been asked to relinquish both that domain and XperiaX10.net and hand them to Sony Ericsson. They have been accused of using the Xperia brand "in bad faith" and they can't fight against such a behemoth. It's a shame that one of the top sites about our phones gets the axe in such a jerkass way.
Can Sony do that? I know if you're just holding on to the domain (Like walmart.com or target.com or something) and doing nothing it's cyber squatting but if you're actively posting updating and whatever and not selling it-it's yours?
Another reason to boycott sony products
This website is not affiliated with or endorsed by Sony Ericsson. SONY ERICSSON, XPERIA, and various product names found on this website are trademarks of Sony Ericsson unless otherwise noted.
xperiablog
thats why it got shutdown.
whereas sites like playstation.blog are official websites supported by S0NY
I read some updates and decent reviews from them.. Too bad that they are closing now..
As you can guess, we're afraid now in Xperia.Es that done jerkass decides to send a similar letter.

Companies take trademarks and brand image very seriously. It is well within their legal rights to protect it, if there is justification. In this case there is justification, as Xperia is a trademark of Sony Ericsson, and they felt their brand was not being handled properly.
Even Microsoft made a person give up their domain name because it phonetically sounded like "Microsoft."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_vs._MikeRoweSoft
They're so lame. Communities and people like them are what makes a company big, when someone goes online to check on a product and finds that it has so many followers, fansites dedicated to it, reviews and a lot of support, we like the product and know that even if the company turns their back on us (most of the time) the community will be there to help us.
Good luck on your site Logseman, let's hope it stays there for a long time.

I call bull**** on this.
These guys were enthusiasts of Sony Ericsson's products, and they had been informing about all things Xperia for a long while, without any bad faith or slander against Sony Ericsson. Were they to come to court, they would prove it. They have decided not to because they can't or aren't willing to pay to defend what is self evident.
This kind of statements, aside of reeking of corporate slavery, are completely false as well. There are heaps of sites dedicated to bash Apple every day. Since those guys know that there is no such thing as bad press, they don't act against them. Meanwhile, Sony Ericsson, which has been struggling for years in the market, chooses to strangle one of its greatest unofficial feelgood spreaders. Way to go!
We should be thankful that both HTC and o2, Really don't care that XDA are using there name

the hackers are still arses to hack Sony. -.-
Either way , ask sony to make an official Xperiablog like playstation.blog.eu/us .
Or create a FB page xP
I know the bad faith thing sounds bad but they have only asked for the domains haven't they?
The guys behind the site could set up another that doesn't use the branding.
With such a domain a lot of people may think it's an official site, which is why they have asked for it.

Sony Ericsson has its own official sphere with its official product and development blogs, its own official forums and so on. It goes against its own interests to smother what outside people are saying, particularly when they're enthusiasts of your products.
Take another example: Cyanogen Mod does not endorse Sony Ericsson closely or market their phones in any way, yet the CM7 team received hardware and support from them. If they are willing to help people who, so to say, are outsiders, how come are they lawyering against insiders who were willing to spread the awareness of their brand?
I really hope they're just after the domain name and aren't actually looking to shut the site down. I can understand Sony wanting to protect trademarks, but I can't understand why they'd be opposed to the content of the blog.

Nice Read: Xperia PLAY: Why Did it Fail, & Why it needs an XP2

Was doing some browsing and came across this article written earlier this year, May 31st 2013.
http://portablegamingregion.com/fea...d-why-we-still-believe-in-sony-xperia-play-2/
Its a pretty detailed article on the time just before the release of our beloved phone and where it went. I for one hope that $ony gets smart and realizes the Vita is doomed and sets out to make a sequel. Which the author states as well.
Enjoy the article, I did.

Live video from the London launch

HTC have invited me to attend the HTC One Launch at London Olympia on 25th March. I'll be there in the front row along with 19 other lucky HTC fans to witness the spectacle and meet up with the big names at HTC.
There will also be plenty of opportunity to have some hands-on time with the new HTC One so it is going to be a great experience. The phone itself has been leaked in the blogosphere and press until most people believe they've seen it all already, but for me, leaks seem so tawdry and sly. There's nothing quite like the razzamatazz of a product launch to add spice and whatever they show me, I'll be suitably excited.
Not only will I be attending, but along with 2 other fans on-site and our very own @mike_1986, we will be delivering a live video feed of the entire proceedings. Three of us will be cameramen on-site and Mike will be back home at ARHD Headquarters twiddling the knobs. We will be using our own HTC One phones and Hangouts-on-Air to bring you the action.
We have HTC's permission to do this so it's all semi-official.
We won't just cover the presentation, as most official videos seem to do. We will also be continuing to broadcast during the hands-on and entertainment session, so that we can bring you live action where it matters.
For more information you can:
# Follow the hashtags #ARHDLiveHTCOne and #M8Live on Twitter for up-to-date news of the steam (e.g. the url for the Youtube link)
# Subscribe to Mike's Youtube Channel for the broadcast (https://www.youtube.com/user/michalbanszel)
# Or keep in touch on the Android Revolution HD Blog site for up-to-date action (http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.nl/2014/03/android-revolution-on-htc-one-2014.html)
Please remember that this is a totally amateur attempt and will be dependent on 3G or WiFi bandwidth and coverage within London Olympia. We can promise nothing absolutely, but we do promise we will try to do it ...
The whole thing will be broadcast 'on-the-fly' with almost no storyline, so please don't expect us to look at specific things .. You can ask ... We'll try, but we don't know what we will be allowed to do with the samples yet !!
And if you are interested or would like to help us reach out ... Please share the hashtags #ARHDLiveHTCOne and #M8Live and links above as widely as possible.
When the event is actually taking place I will try to replace this Youtube link with the live feed connection.
Watch this Space ...
If you're a blogger, please feel free to embed the feed on your blog or link to Mikes blog page (above). All we ask is that if you do embed the feed, please add a credit to Mike's blog as the originator of the video.

Not long to wait ...
I've also asked XDA's own Shen Ye if he can find the time to do a 5-10 minute, on camera hands-on for us .. Waiting on his reply now.
So you guys are gonna play with the devices before the actual show? That's the way it always is , the press plays with the devices, make their hands on, videos etc and after the show they post them

Nope .. we're not press we're fans .. so we get no special preview privileges .. We only get to touch the phones after the big reveal.
What we're going to do for value add is continue beyond jsut the presentation ... normally official videos of launches stop after the presentation. They may run a couple of adverts but it's all 'potted' stuff.
We're hoping to rope in Shen Ye to do a 5 minute hands on and we also want to cover some of the press reactions and general show scenes .. ... and do it live - as it's happening (well - with a 30 second to 1 minute spooling delay) ...
Once the live vid is closed it will be preserved on Mikes channel on Youtube.
Let's see if i can link the live feed directly to the OP ... this should be an interesting experiment
:good:
Bump now the video link is made. See you all at 2:45
