[IDEA] Safe style combo to unlock - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Hi guys,
I was thinking about the 'Wheel to unlock' idea and thought it would be cool to expand on that idea and actually have a safe dial that has a user set combination to unlock the phone.
As well as serving well to get over the problem that S2U2 and others are trying to solve, it could also serve as a layer of security. It could be simple dial that only has 10 or 20 digits and only requires 3 of them to unlock the phone, but could also freeze the diamond after a few unsuccessful attempts to frustrate anyone trying to 'brute force' it. To be honest that could be 'objective B'.
Maybe you could also have an option that would allow you to unlock the phone by a simple 360 swivel in case it gets frustrating trying to unlock when answering a call. That could be a drawback that would require some more thinking to overcome.
Just tossing an idea out there - what do you guys think about that?

Lock Screen slowly but surely pissing me off!

Hi everyone,
My phone has been flashed with 2 different roms in the last 48 hours; the reason for this is the lock screen keeps locking me out!
I try something new each time this happens because I spend hours or even days modifying it to my taste!
Can someone please explain why it keeps locking me out and also how to prevent it! and before someone says "Don’t have a passcode" then that is simply not an option!
Also if someone knows a way around this so I can simply change the passcode without having to hard reset then please tells me! this would have been the second time in 48 hours Iv lost data and this has happened about 6 times since I have had the phone from November
Cheers,
Does it say incorrect pin? or just hangs?
incorrect pin! and its the right pin!
and then if I soft reset and try and enter it then it says incorrect pin but if I then type something else in it hangs!
Ive had the same problem with the stock rom. I use Artemis HD2 v9.0 in the rom section. Hes bringing out V10 tomorrow might be worth putting that on. Ive not had that problem since.
seen that reported a lot in conjunction with swype 3.9 on non tmous phones

Havn't got swype and never had it, I read its a bug with 6.5 and 6.5.3 fixes it but I dont like 6.5.3 so im in a catch 22 situation.
Im assuming you guys didnt find away around it or hear from anyone who had then?
I don't know if this is related but my phone keeps frezzing in the lock screen. It happens twice each day and I need to remove the battery to get my phone working again. I have tried several roms and several radios and it happens before to place any extra program (done hard reset etc)
It was not happening with the stock rom. I guess that perhaps it is a problem of the HSPL2? I don't see anything else that has a common link.
well, I used to have a pin lock on my ipaq, now with this hd2 I've become fearless, and have no phone/sim pin enabled at all.
Anyway, as far as I know the PIN lock on the hd2 has been reported way too often to be defective, as in it "forgets" the code, so after N unlocks, you'll have a device that will never recognize your -correct- pin, requiring a hard reset.

so could it be something in the registry?
I know its a long shot but registry normally has control for things like expiry and load counts
I think I have gathered more information about this problem and I have created a separate thread describing what the problem may be, please go here to understand what im on about.
More info: Phone is going into a read only like state!
I have had this too a few times. I had to remove the battery to have it fixed, because the phone didn't switch off.
Just in case anyone is reading this that could help, i am trying to get a cab that will revert the HD2 back to the stock windows mobile unlock screen for the pin input. the HTC one seems to have a few issues, and i prefer the stock windows one.

Original microsoft unlock screen (pin input)

Hi, long time lurker first time poster here. first of all thank you to everyone here for such a fantastic website, i have been flashing roms on my wizard and then xperia x1 for a long time, and the collection of apps ad tweaks here makes windows mobile perform like it should!
i am now onto a leo and its fantastic. i havent found the need to flash a rom yet, but i was wondering if anyone can help me with a slight niggle i have. when i set a pin for my unlock screen, HTC seem to have replaced the original microsoft pin entry screen with a horrible silver version. i much prefer the rounded semi transparent buttons that i assume is the default for windows mobile 6.5. if anyone has a cab or tweak they can advise, it would be much appreciated.
tl;dr : anyone know how to revert from the HTC pin unlock screen to the original?
thanks for your time.
I don`t know if that is possible, or if there actually is an original and a modified version of the unlock screen, but if yours works, then I strongly advise you to let it be just the way it is, because I have heard lots and lots of people complaining that their device simply won`t accept the PIN they set up.
As the saying goes, "don`t fix what`s not broken"...
Thanks for the reply, i am aware of the issue with the device forgetting the pin and appreciate the warning, but AFAIK the unlock screen displayed wouldnt influence this, and a stock microsoft unlock scren is less prone to issues over a HTC one IMHO. i could easily be wrong though.
does the HTC unlock screen feature in cooked ROMs?
Yes, I currently use a cooked ROM and the unlock screen is the same with the one featured in stock ROMs... I haven`t seen or heard of any ROM which changes this screen, but I may be wrong...
I agree with you, HTC does seem to have serious problems regarding the software part... After the SMS issue and the pink camera stain, the PIN problem is the one encountered most frequently. What a shame...
agreed, in addition to being un aesthetically pleasing, i fear locking my phone and being unable to unlock it!
the only reason i ask is that i saw the original lock screen on a ROM i flashed my XPERIA with. i may try and find it, and PM whoever created the ROM.
if this fixes the locking issues it would be great
Please share any results of your search, I`m sure lots of people will thank you for your info.
I am using a HD2 and I observed that the inability to unlock the screen may be due to "shifted" touch, may be because of the G-sensor. For example, if you touch 9 on the Windows Classic unlock screen, you may notice that 7 is being touched instead. Pressing menu may activate unlock instead. Leave the machine off for a few minutes, you are likely able to retry and works.

[Q] Locked Out by Android Device Manager (help!)

I don't know if anyone is going to believe this. I decided to test Android Device Manager's lock feature. Worked fine on my tablet. Did not work right on my phone. Now I am locked out of my phone. It would not accept the PIN I selected. I tried sending different PINs and it won't accept any of them! When I change the "message," it does change but the PIN doesn't work.
1) Is there any way to fix this???
2) If not, ugh, if I send an ERASE command, will I be able to get back into the phone?
Help!!
Thanks!
Paul
(I don't know how to prove this isn't a stolen phone - I have full access to it via Device Manager in my google account)
Talked to AT&T. I was screwed. FYI for anyone else... The Android Device Manager Lock may not work right on the AT&T Galaxy S4.
The entire point of locking a phone through ADM is to render it useless for anyone that has stolen it or "found and tried to use it" if it was lost. It's not intended as a tool to be used day to day or for any other reason than loss or theft. As such, I don't see why there would be a need to re-activate the phone after locking it through ADM.
However, if it simply won't let you unlock the lock screen, why not use ODIN to re-flash the firmware and start fresh with an unlocked lock screen?

I should have posted more details. Actually, you can factory reset the phone and it comes out of it fine, albeit factory reset. It doesn't make the phone useless. It just protects the data on your phone with the standard PIN lock screen. It's certainly no kill switch.
To add more info to this - it literally changes the lock screen setting to PIN lock. So, for example, on my tablet, I had a pattern lock. Even after I unlocked it with the ADM PIN I sent, the next time it locked, it was the same PIN lock. I had to go back and change it to the pattern lock.
This is unlike the 3rd party solutions I have used in the past (e.g. Lookout, AVG) which overlay their own lock onto the phone one time only. Once you unlock through their PIN system, the device reverts to whatever locking method you had been using (or none).
This is just what I learned from the experience. Maybe people knew this but it was interesting to me.

Thanks for the additional info. It's nice to know how it works or is supposed to work. Starting mid-2014, all cell phones sold in the US will be required to have a "kill switch" available. I wonder if it will operate in the same way. I guess time will tell. Again, thanks for the info.
I do wish people who don't read a persons message properly and are not informed on the subject wouldn't waste every ones time posting their drivel aye Scott!
You like so many others state the obvious, I did like your post Paul and thank you for taking the time to post
I have had issues with ADM and have found the application about as useful as Scott's drivel

Direction Lock - New way to unlock your phone (Hidden feature on the Galaxy S6)

With direction lock, you can unlock your phone by drawing a pattern on it...pretty cool I think
https://youtu.be/iIQUWxuLhOI
Considering I'll be coming from a G2, it's a far cry from knock on. I will miss knock on more than anything on my G2 I'm sure. It might break the boredom of just swipe to unlock, but leaves more room for error and will take longer.

Knock on was very cool, pressing the home button once with the fingerprint reader is cooler.
Well, I'm getting an S6, so I'm certainly willing to give it a shot.
After activating the direction lock feature I have run into a very serious issue. An OTA software update came in from AT&T after which the phone did a reboot. I cannot unlock the phone as it no longer recognizes the direction lock pattern and sadly, it is requiring that specific unlock method for the first unlock after reboot. Samsung tells me there is no way around this except a full master reset which the data loss would be devastating! I cannot locate any software that will pull the data via USB either as the model is an S6 Edge SM-G925A which is not offered via FonePaw, Phone Doctor or Mini Tool. Since the direction lock is located in the Accessibility menu the "unlocking" methods don't work either as the values are apparently in a different location. I seriously need some help with this issue. Losing all the critical data from my last backup to now is beyond stressing me out as it is vital as well as having some very sentimental items. If I could just find a way to either pull the data or explore the phone via third party software I would be one very happy man!! Please, if there is anyone that has an idea, I am willing to try just about anything to prevent a factory reset! Thank you very much in advance!! And yes, I have searched and read and searched and read..... over 5 hours worth of time spent online trying to get this solved... BTW, the phone does not have USB debugging enabled and is not rooted. Just stock Android 7.x

Meizu M6s 6 digit pin lock

I know this isn't a section for M6s' but xda currently seems to lack a forum for that specific phone & is the only site I can think of with people who tend to be pretty good at this stuff.
So I bought a cheap M6s from a local pawnbroker figuring by locked they meant frp locked which tends to be a simple thing to sort a bypass for (my old LG G4 that I recently accidentally crushed in a car door being an example), found it to be locked by a 6 digit pin instead which is proving harder to find a bypass for (flyme os even asks for the pin to wipe the data from the phone which is a good security feature but no help to me)
So yeah I'm just here to check if anyone has any ideas on how to potentialy bypass this as I really don't feel like going through the 1 million possible combinations of numbers. (And I'm starting to consider buying more expensive, less locked phones in future)
