LINK SAY
"Although Microsoft has not publicly said when to expect Windows Mobile 7, partners who had expected to have a final release in their hands by early next year have been told now that it won't be ready until the second half of next year"
i did not know that, but anyway i did not expect wm7 this or the next year
This will be the death of windows mobile if not a wonder happens and they are able to make a fast, logical, functionel and good looking OS. but this would mean to make every application in wm new.
If they can manage that: okay, but really lets all say thank you too iphone and android, that there is going somthing foward after all the years of microsoft stagnancy.
Must wait to 2010/11.
So annoying... I'm really looking forward to WM7.
bummer
we all need the new windows mobile....cuz this one sucks!!
hey I won't complain, as long as they take the time to make sure its done right. I would love to have the zune features on my phone. plus its an all new code base I hear. so this should be intersting, I hope they implement propper animations in the one.
also why did the first poster aatach a picture of windows mobile standard 6.1 sliding panels ?
this is the home screen for non touch screen phones. thats not wm7

It's Microsoft's product. You know!
It's been a long time that we consumers or users expect something from them. But they are always delaying the release. Why do they have to release a target date when it's not ready yet? I think they are trying to make us hungry with their product. Right now I am just hoping that Android will be ported to my device. I don't wanna wait for another year(s) for the release of WinMo.
see in first post and know about wm7 a review edited now

I do but from the speculated specs it's not gonna have US 3G bands. I hope the rumors are wrong. Plus, I can imagine how much it's gonna cost. I'm not paying anywhere near a $1000...maximum maybe around $700.

i did hear this a while ago but have not seen it confirmed, when i ask by twitter on the xperia blog i was told it was up to vodaphone to announce it but on there website it just says november.
just got a direct message from the xperia blog on twitter. i ask why i have not see and reviews yet. they said that they are still waiting for the final x2 software and and we should see reviews soon. they said in a twwet to someone else that they should be sent out next week.
can they release on the 6 november when they still have not got the final software? i doubt they will, my guess would be mid to late november

Would seem odd, but then again it wouldnt suprise me if SE released this early without the final software update. It says so on the Voda website that it will come on the 6th.

To find out, go to this page http://www.vodafonetouchthephone.com/ , click on "skill game", while playing that on the bottom left of the screen different phones will pop up, everytime the phone pops up the date of release pops up with it. You may have to play it a few times as different phones pop up.

looks like the 6th is the official date. but one thing i would point out is the satio's date is the original one and that was delayed by a week or 2 so the x2 might get the same treatment but lets hope not.
We won't see the X2 in the shelves before the very end of November the earliest.

I can wait!
I don't get it... so You guys are actually waiting for it?? damn... msm 7200a cpu is sooo yesterday comparing to snapdragon or a8 cortex devices. I would wait few more weeks/months if I were You. the worst thing one can do is to sign a vodaphone contract for 18 - 24 mths to get it. well... other than 8 mp camera, what's so special about x2 anyway? panels? please..... SE's quality??
...
I am keeping x1 till release reviews of htc leo, n900 and x3 (if those rumours about nov 3 are real).
then I shall burn my money...
X2 java speed at top
Someone wrote in an SE forum that X2 might get different hardware specs than what leaked before (7200a). Lets wait for the final device and see what aktually is in it
Lets hope they speed it up a bit.
If it does come out on the 6th it'd be just in time before the warranty for my X1 expires so that I can send it for servicing of the keyboard. Been delaying it for so long cos can't do without it for a day.

Well what is SO strange if somebody WANTS that?
I don't ****ing care if it's "so yesterday" or today on paper.
If it works well - great, **** the "dry" specs.
And if it works bad, it's bad.
BTW I don't get any Vodafone contract, but simply buy this from SE.
As for device: great camera, great keyboard, good quality, and yes - also those damned panels. Now you get it?
Snapdragon - there are only two now, both touchscreen only, even no camera button - thank you.
I'm very picky as for hardware/formfactor, nothing convinces me.
N900 - please, a device which works in landscape ONLY???
So - not much to choose from!
And Android - that would be interesting but again - depending too much on Google - thanks.
I'd be really happy to have at least 3 devices I like to choose from but it just cannot happen!
HTC makes such a crappy devices (form factor/functionality)....
While not wanting to reveal their source for this piece of information, msmobiles.com has gone on the record as saying that HTC will put out an OFFICIAL upgrade of Windows Mobile 7 for the HTC HD2 as soon as Microsoft makes it available.

Unless HTC go out of their minds they surely won't release a WM7 update for HD2 in Q4 2010, as by that time they will have a new flagship device ready for the holiday season.

I think HTC is faced with the same issue they faced with the launch of the Diamond 2 and Touch pro 2 months prior to the official launch of WM6.5. The HD2 is due to be released in the US and other territories in Q1 2010 at the same time WM7 is due to be officially announced. Faced with the same circumstances they faced with WM6.5 I expect them to act in the same way and provide a update to WM7 as otherwise sales in the markets it is due to be released in in 2010 Q1 would be likely to be severly limited. Any other course does not make much sense.
WM7 is going to be announced in Q1, but judging by the information that's been out so far it's still due to be released no earlier than Q3/Q4 2010.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the Diamond 2 and TR2 were announced in May 2008 and WM6.5 appeared in October so I see little diffence here, though the official announcement was necessarily earlier. HTC has announced a future policy of releasing less models and going for more volume, so not offering a WM7 update to US Q1 purchasers would surely severly restrict potential HD2 sale volumes.
It probably makes little difference to us here I guess, as I suspect like me many early adopters would probably be ready for a new phone come this time next year in any event.

May through October is 5 months. October through October is 12 months. Don't know about you, but I see one hell of a lot of difference. Also, Diamond 2 and TP2 got their upgrades at a time when they are still the top-of-the-line HTC smaller form factor and QWERTY models (i.e. the upgrade gave them a boost in the middle of their lifecycle). By the time WM7 will come out it will be time for HTC to launch a successor to HD2, so the latter will have to go out of the way. That's another huge difference in my opinion.

I think you overestimate general consumer awareness about what WM versions exist and what the difference is. Android may be well-known because of the media hysteria, but if MS are going to advertise WM7 they have already shown that they now smartly refer to their stuff as "Windows Phone", and that will be the name by which most people will likely know phones like HD2 or HD3.
I burped so hard while I read this.
I'm not worried about a new flagship device. By the time HTC arrives with it the issues of the HD2 will be solved and be used to your hearts content. Don't forget there is a 1 GHZ processor in the HD2. The good news, and not unexpectedly, HD2 will probably be upgradable to windows mobile 7 is the logical step. The current windows mobile 6.5 has developed itself and feels like the windows vista equivalent. I think it would only be logical to argument, just like windows 7 to consider windows mobile 7 an "update" to windows mobile 6.5 rather than an "upgrade". I think it would do the HD2 justice. One can just feel that the HD2 can do more than what the current OS is portraying. It would be like extending the life of the HD2.

The big difference is that W7 is a new OS, while 6.5 was just an update. I don't think WM7 will be officially available for the HD2. In autumn 2010 when WM7 will ship, the HD2 will be outdated anyway, and HTC will do everything to shift customers to their new products that ship with WM7. It will be a major sales argument to go for a new phone next year. HTC would be commercially stupid to offer WM7 free of charge for their "old" phones.

In Italy we have had problems with vodafone (i purchased my nexus one in USA ).
First problem, inside the box they replaced the original headset wich has the music control, with a motorola one. Now after a lot of protests they agreed to sent to all who purchased the phone the HTC headset.
Second, they are blocking the vocal search. I don't know what's the problem, but looks like they are blocking the vocal search because is recognized as VOIP traffic.
Anyway in Italy is sold with eclair and not Froyo.
Hope to see news tomorrow.
Doubt it.
More Froyo release date info....
ben1010 said:
Hi everyone,
I feel your anxiety, and though I'd love to give you all a definitive date, that's not possible, because there is no date. What I mean is, it's not that there's a Froyo release ready to go, and we're holding it back, or waiting for the right time to release it. That's not how it works. Software development is an iterative process, and each release candidate goes through extensive testing. Sometimes, the testing exposes issues introduced in the new version, and the release gets delayed as a result. And so, although we know that we are pretty close to having a final build, we won't be sure of the release date until it arrives, and at that point the release goes out to the public without any further delay. It's a bit like a baby -- the delivery date is a best guess, but if the baby has other ideas, we all have to wait ...

Sucks to be right but if you didn't see this coming I don't know what to say.
Nothing to do now but sit back, relax and wait.
P.S. What we saw at the I/O wasn't really even that close to the final release candidate. They were just being overly optimistic and hurried to give Apple something to worry about. Can't blame them though.
They seriously got a date 6/23 for the desire to be upgraded. But not for the n1?
This is bull. The thread makes it sound like n1 will not be the first to get the official 2.2......

I hope that is the case..you may be mad, but some of use like Desire 10x better than any standard N1 Rom, cyogen Roms. In fact, 2.1 N1 standard Rom is unusable IMO. If you don't have full Exchange support built into your mobile device, you are not a serious consideration for being purchased with huge numbers of people, particularly in the enterprise.
The interface, options/features of the Desire Rom for these apps like calendar etc...is way ahead of the standard Google stuff for N1.
Also, I have yet to find a way to add a standard POP3 account in 2.1 or 2.2??? Just Exchange and Gmail are the options..that is sad. Desire has this built in standard as well as IMAP.
Plus the interface is just slicker and refined in Desire IMO.
I thought talk was later in the year for Desire though?? Not in a few weeks?

If there's no final Froyo build then I don't see how it could be passed to HTC to throw sense into the mix. I also don't see HTC releasing an RC as their final build. I'd say the 6/23 date is speculation assuming they get a final build by X date.

Google is having a hard time activating the hologram projector. Give them time.
Seriously though, I think MFG's are finally participating in the AOSP project, which is why the projected dates for other devices are so near and the nexus update isn't out yet. The AOSP code may not be out yet, but everybody in the OHA is privy to the code before anyone else. For example the Droid froyo builds that are out.
This is an awesome thing that all devices appear to be updated withing a similiar time frame. It pretty much means Android is being taken seriously.
Cyanogen needs to join the OHA. =D

Good news Dell Venue Pro users! Mango is coming officially on the Dell Venue Pro.
Dell has insisted, much like other Microsoft OEMs, that the Mango OS will be pushed out to current devices on September 20. Usually, Dell has a pretty good track record of releasing updates on Tuesdays (Nodo, firmware, Microsoft Security update). Combined with the other musings about Windows Phone Mango updates coming in mid September , the rumored release date gains some face validity. But to be safe, put the release date in the rumor folder because delays do happen

I don't really get this article. In typical headline-grabbing style WMPU position this article it as fact, without providing any offical source or quote, but then go on to caveat it up to the hilt to cover their back. And typically this has been re-quoted all over the web without so much as a question. Yet up to this point many were saying that existing DVPs wouldn't get an official update. Where is the evidence that Dell have insisted this is true or official? Is it something the rep said in the video?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260411
that post makes it pretty clear that dell is going to do an update.
phone from dell with mango and new firmware.
True, but that's a "brand new" phone. But still doesn't answer why WMPU (and everyone else who jumped on their bandwagon) are treating it as indisputable fact when, as far as I can see, in typical blog style, they've not backed it up with any source or quote.
Still, I guess we've not long to wait and find out!
Probably because the author knows people at Dell:
http://en.community.dell.com/dell-b...-pro-firmware-revision-coming-next-month.aspx
I'd guess Dell probably aren't allowed to announce a date until Microsoft officially launches Mango. There is a huge Microsoft conference happening at the moment (http://www.buildwindows.com/). Would be very surprised if Mango was not 'launched' officially during the conference.
20th September is the first Tuesday after the conference ends, so it's a plausible date.
Ah, that explains it then. Apologies all round for being such a sceptic!
Thanks - although I have no idea if the author has heard a whisper from Dell or is just taking an educated guess.

yes it was rumored from a mutual contact that the dvp update would be next week. But I also know that whenever dates are given with dell, well...there are delays...(last f/w update for instance was delayed by a week as was the security update, and for that matter nodo was delayed so so many times).
I suggested to readers that delays do happen, like with any software/firmware update due to carrier testing or microsoft. With the previous f/w update, dell had the intent of releasing it the same week as reported, but in this case Microsoft waited to do a dual update (hd7 and venue pro updating) which is at their discretion.
Whether or not Microsoft will do that again is anyone's guess. That's why I recommended that
1. It is a rumored release date (but the contact is extremely reliable with his info given)
2. delays happen
Nothing major if it does happen. This is dell afterall...they have a record with delays...it wasn't super sensational to suggest that...

1. It is a rumored release date (but the contact is extremely reliable with his info given)
2. delays happen
Nothing major if it does happen. This is dell afterall...they have a record with delays...it wasn't super sensational to suggest that...

I would 'suggest' the only sure date for the mango release is whenyou see 'update complete' on your device. Until then, blah blah blah.
The circumstances for the release of mango is different than with Seven and NoDo.
With seven, it was all about timing. Small market release upfront, followed by reaction plan and response.
Nodo was an updat, nothing more.
Mango is a new device focused release. Its step 2 in the MS mobile plan.It released to Operators several weeks ago. What was released back in july is what youll see next week. Anything new since the RTM will be this years nodo. Historically, new OS's have rarely updated near launch date, the focus instead on the new device release. If MS/Dell have said the 20th, then hoorah for them. But i do not recall seeing anything official from them....excluding that twitter guy.
From someone who has the mango rtm already, but no longer uses the vp as my primary device, i can say i will not move back to the device as my primary device. Its slow and bulky compared to many of the android devices. I do however hold great hope for windows phone and will buy a new device when i see 4g, dual core, and wifi integrated calling. I believe windows phone is better than android. It just doesnt have all the cookies yet.
With the number of contacts i have at ms, i 'suspect' the release will be within the next 2weeks. But i said that back in June, and nothing has changed.

That was my point and why I took issue with wording of the article. A prime site like WMPU should be very careful of giving the impression that they have seen an official statement committing to a date when all they have is rumour and hearsay (no matter how trusted the source).
Also, won't Dell (and other OEMs) need to build and test their proprietary hardware drivers (e.g. for the compass) before they roll the upgrade out to their devices? Or will have these been completed and submitted back to MS in time for the 'launch'?

i can vouch for the information. The person gave me a unit to personally test and write about. I'm pretty sure that's enough to vouch for their reputation.
But realistically, mobile sites are dicy on rumor mill, but that doesn't stop reporting at all. And sadly on more than one occasion, several sites haven't fact checked a rumor before it ran out of commotion (anyone remember the initial HD3 specs fiasco?)
I can understand your skepticism, but that's also why I indicated that delays happen and things get pushed back. Realistically anytime there is a date given by any dev, oem, or company, it always never EVER delivers on that promised date.
But it is news that many want to know about. And the source is extremely RELIABLE and about as official it is going to get regarding dell's restructuring of their mobile division.
You don't have to trust the date, in fact I suggest not to do so. But given the indication that mango is coming in that timeframe (middle of september) clarifies the position that the rumored release date gains more credibility. Also, since TMO gets a bevy of updates on Tuesday for windows phone camp (nodo, security, firmware), Tuesday at least is a relatively big day for tmo as far as pushing out updates are concerned.
That was the point of the article. Seriously no need to overanalyze it, it will make you old and gray =P

Agreeing with dom on this. Youll get old and gray reading digital papparrazzi. Know that the first time dell saw mango was NOT at the rtm date. They've had the bits for several months. They were test partners along with the other OEMs for several months. Fijal bits have been in their hands for 6-8 weeks and they have been privvy to prelim builds for several weeks before that. Test modes and package delivery have been their focus for several weeks now since changes to the packages must go through ms, not dell. Dell cannot add anything post handoff.
There is no question the release is soon. My only question is where it will fall in relationship to the new device release. If its before the release, then soon is soon. If its after, then soon could bè fall...and that lsts until december

I wouldn't expect a new dell wp7 device any time soon =(
Hey Dom and everyone,
I just thought that I would chime in a little with this one. The rumored date of September 20 was the latest officially announced date given to OEMs (Dell in this case) from Microsoft at the time this article was written. Joe Belfiore of Microsoft has obviously gone on record as saying that Mango will now officially happen in the fall, meaning on or after September 23. Dell has finished their part of Mango and Microsoft is again stuck holding the ball in their court. Let's just hope history repeats itself on this one. Announced date + 1 week = Actual Date???? I will keep my ears pressed to the walls for this one and update if I hear anything new.
The "other" part of this rumor came true, please look at this thread title (Just received a replacement DVP and it's got Mango on it!!)
Dell was ready to ship some of their devices 1 week after the article was written. They ship device overnight and the thread was created on September 13.

I didn't mean a new VP, I meant new mango devices in general......rarely are new OS's first distributed as an upgrade to existing devices. Usually new devices get it first...

In the US at least only at&t has announced new hardware and they have committed to a fast update rollout so it would seem there shouldnt really be a delay due to new hardware.
its the 20th! cant wait if this is true!
