Can anyone help?
Sitting at the train station yesterday I started to log on to one of the wifi portals, getting as far as the log on screen (i was board). I did not have an account so moved on to google maps (not sure why) and found that it was downloading data via the wifi connection even though I had not progressed past the log on screen. I checked I was not connected via my mobile provider and was not, also as it was my first time in london the information was not in the google maps cache. I zoomed and moved around with the map updateing nicely. Does anyone know how I got this data - I double checked on the connections settings and was definatly getting my signal from the provider described above.
Thanks.

Has anyone else had the problem that you go online and surf the web then maybe a couple of hours later you launch Opera again to go online and it just hangs (the data connection not opera)?

yeh iv been getting that problem for sometime now, its frustrating, sometimes i even have to soft reset to get the data connection working. It shows that the data connection is fine and everything seems connected, but then when you try and update weather or browse the web (anything that uses data) you end up getting an error,
its very similar to the problem you get on your home broadband, your router shows its connected and your dsl and everything is active yet you get a white page on your browser and then you have to reset your router, very very frustrating, so i understand your problem exactly.
I'm wondering if this is anything to do with changing cells on your network?
When you travel to a different cell location although the network says you are still connected (and you can still send/receive calls) the data network has actually dropped and needs refreshing?
I suppose what we are after is a program that can refresh the data network every few mins - don't know if this is possible though?
Here in Germany o2 has a problem with the Qualcomm Chipset. I also have hanging connections. A workaround is to disable HSDPA. Maybe you have the same problem?
same problem here (also o2 Germany)
the 3G icon is there and the bubble says there is a connection for x minutes but opera or google maps mobile report a missing connection after a short time of usage. i have to kill the connection manually and after the connection is reestablished it works again for few minutes...... this is so frustrating...
GPRS
Same problem in Czech republic with O2 provider.
At this moment I found as a fastest way to switch off and on the radio.
I'm using most of the time GPRS connection and this problem is about two times per day so reconnection every day two times is really annoying.
Hopefully somebody will find solution soon...
My problem is slightly different. Sometimes (after using Opera or not) I try to refresh weather and it says "refreshing" but the data connection won't connect (it shows antenna, no arrows with H or 3G). I must then soft reset the PDA to make it work. Any solutions or similar experiences?
Blackstone data connection problems

I am also wondering if this problem is limited to Blackstone (HTC Touch HD) or extends to HD2 also?
I have noticed that no one ahs posted any solution.
Comeon senior guys PLEASE help us out here.
Many thanks in advance.
Kam2kam, question, What rom are you using, and are you using activesync? If so, have you downloaded any email attachments? I was having the same problem where a couple of times a day I would have to soft reset. The connection would look fine, but if you tried to update anything or browse the net you were met with an error. It was frustrating. I finally narrowed the issue down to activesync and the new manila documents tab. My theory was that when I downloaded an attachment to view in the documents tab activesync would continue to sync the attachment each time it polled for new mail. Since activesync is often slow to sync attachments, my connection to the VPN would timeout before it could finish syncing causing the dreaded "waiting for network". My thought was my VPN connection would freeze thereby preventing my carrier internet from being able to connect; since, at least for me, you cannot have two different data session running simultaneously, i.e. VPN connection and the carrier's connection. The only cure was to soft reset. Ultimately what I did was hunt down any and all email attachments that I had dowloaded, and deleted them all. Since then my data connection went from freezing up twice a day to zero times a day and it's now been over two weeks.
You may not have the same set up as I do, but perhaps there may be something similar going on.
I hope that helps a bit.
Hey guys, I am facing a weird problem after updating an OTA released yesterday by HTC (2.2.1). My gmail app and market app is not working when on wifi. It works perfectly on Mobile data connection though (EDGE). I get a no connection error in gmail and network error in market app.
I have done the following but to no avail.
1. Soft reset and boot into safe mode.
2. Uninstalled task killer app.
3. Deleted all data for these apps and updated the gmail app and setup the account again.
I have not tried the hard reset as yet. Can anyone help me out please? TIA
Thats not good at all. Is your handset branded?
Hey Andy,
Thanks for replying although your reply does make me nervous :s. I am from India and we only get unbranded sets here. So to answer your question it is a unlocked unbranded phone running stock firmware.
By the way after I posted the question I did get these two apps working once for sometime but since then it's the same problem. I am starting to wonder whether it has to do something with the wifi although all the remaining apps are working fine and dandy.
Is the wifi access point owned by you? You could try turning it off and on again, that may help.
Have tried that. It is my home network that I am connecting to using a linksys wireless router.
UPDATE - I connected my phone using internet pass through i.e. sharing the internet through PC via the data cable and I still get the same error which leads me to believe some setting on the router provided by my ISP is causing this. Although what I fail to understand is that it was working fine till yesterday and nothing have been changed in the router setup recently.
Hmm... that's odd. Did your ISP supply your router? My ISP pushed a firmware update to my router about 8 months ago that broke pretty much everything wireless.
Is it just Gmail & Market that don't work over wifi? Does your browser and other apps work?
Yes indeed, my ISP provides a router which is then connected to my wireless router. The strange thing is everything else is pretty much working including gtalk.
If your router supports DMZ and you know how to set it up, you could try putting your DHD's IP into the DMZ to eliminate the possibility of your routers inbuilt firewall blocking Market & GMail.
Maybe a DNS problem? Ensure you have good ones... You can always test Google ones 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4
Thanks for showing interest guys. I for some strange reason cannot access my router settings page. I will figure that out but the stranger things are happening with my apps. After a bit of tinkering I have found a behavior which stumps me.
These are the steps I follow:
1. Sign out from gtalk.
2. Go to manage applications and clear cache and data for gmail, market, download manager, Google backup transport, google partner setup and google services framework.
3. Restart phone.
After this my gmail app starts working on wifi but talk does not start anymore and market also throws an error before even accepting the terms. I uncheck and check the background data services and I am back to square one i.e. gmail stops syncing saying no connection, gtalk works as usual and market starts giving connection error (after accepting terms).
I seriously think now there's a serious flaw in the software and not something to do with my router settings.
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading.
Simillar problem appeared for me in Locations. I couldn't list country maps for preload on wifi without 3G. After turned on 3G, it listed the maps - turn off - and i could download with wifi.
I'm having an issue that just sprung up today. My mobile data is not working but shows as connected (under About Phone -> Status it shows as connected to HSPA and has an IP address). In addition, the phone is constantly searching for a GPS lock even after a fresh reboot. If I walk outside so that the phone can get a GPS lock data starts working for a short time, but once I'm back inside (still 5 bars of signal) data stops working again. It is not signal related as if I disable GPS and go outside the phone still does not work.
I am on T-Mobile and have tried the SIM in another phone which is able to connect with no issues. Any idea what could be going on that the phone is unable to use mobile data if I do not have a GPS lock? SMS/voice works fine at all times.
Edit: Also, the signal indicator will occasionally turn blue like it has a connection to Google services, but I still cannot access any web pages or get to any e-mail that is not already cached.
So I'm having a very odd problem ever since I upgraded my router and modem earlier this week, which so far only seems to be affecting HTC One M8 phones (because haven't been able to test others).
So last weekend I bought a brand new modem and set it up, and a few days later i bought a refurbished router from Amazon and set that up too. While setting up the router I connected my M8 to the wifi network (had not connected to the wifi after buying the modem), and soon noticed that my phones location was changed to Denver, Colorado...instead of New Jersey where I actually live. Because of that, it gives me the time, weather, and directions from CO. After messing around with the settings on my phone, I found that if I go to the location settings and change the mode I can temporarily correct it. Basically if i change the mode to "Device Only" it will be correct; but if I change to either of the other 2 settings (high accuracy or battery saving), it ends up incorrect again. I also had a bunch of friends over today, and the ones who connected their phones to my network also faced the same issue (unfortunately they also had M8's, and wasn't able to verify with anyone using a different phone).
So as far as I can tell, something about my router/modem makes it think its in CO, and if my phone tries to connect to wifi networks to find its location, it will forget where it actually is. I haven't seen something like this before and can't seem to find anything on google either...Does anyone have a possible solution?
I guess the MAC of your router is still mapped to another place on earth In Google's database.
Get a GPS fix while connected to your wifi. Maybe this will trigger an update in the location database.
Since the MM update (stock verizon, no root) my wife's phone cannot connect to wifi networks that have a redirect to a login screen like you see in hotels and unfortunately her work network. At first I suspected an issue with chrome so I had her clear the cache for chrome which works for exactly one login. Tried different browsers and the problem persists. I sat with the phone at a restaurant last night and after 5-10 minutes of trying to connect I finally got it to work but three different browsers and cache clearing is clearly not how this is supposed to work. Is anyone else having problems like this and has anyone found a solution? I'm about ready to throw the phone away. Also for what it's worth rooting/romming not an option on this phone due to her work software.
Some additional info, on her work network when the login attempts to redirect she gets the errror: NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID. When I was trying to get it to log in on a public network that had a redirect login page all I got was a page not available message in whichever browser I tried.
