TV Tuner and Internal / External Display Issues - Shift General

I have had installed Pinancle Nano USB Tv Tuner with TvCentrePro Version 4.9.5 software version 4.9.5. I had follwoing issues,
(1) Initially I got blue screen on Shift (it was in 800X480) and I couldn't fugure it out why.
(2) I connected to external display (26" Viewsonic Monitor) @1920x1600 and it worked on external LCD for a while tha TVCentrePro crashed. It gave me PCMloader.exe has stopped working error. I searched OEM site and as per them upgraded TVCentrePro to 4.9.9. It didn't worked at all and Shift always crahsed.
(3) Menawhile I had figured out that if I tick hardware acceleration and uncheck "use De-Interlace" in display settings of version 4.9.5 it works. Version 4.9.9. has no setting for hardware acceleration (grayed out) and it never worked, it errors that 800MHz is lesss than specified for Pinnacle Nano. I installed and unistalled 4.9.9 and again installed 4.9.5 version. I was not able to restore TVCentre Pro to 4.9.5 although I have had backed up before I removed 4.9.5 and installed 4.9.9. It takes a lot of time 40 minutes or so) to install somwhow (probably somesort of VB codes etc..). Although I selected C:\Programms\Pinnacle while I first installed 4.9.9 after removing 4.9.5, it somehow installed to C:\Progams\Pinnacle1 so it retains some information like serial number I used since ever first time for all this shuffle.
(4) Now while back on 4.9.5 with Hardware Acceleration checked and 'Use De-Interlace" unchecked, it works well on Shift in 800x480 and to max resulution up to 1152x864. But now it doesn't display at all on my external display, although it runs, TV window remains black.
(5) Also on external display, it goes up to 1920x1200, but the background always flickets a bit. Please note that it doesn't flicker inside program windows like IE, WMP, Word, Excel etc, but if all programs minimzed, desktop backgrpund keeps flickering. I have changed VGA cable, but same thing. I am using 1900 x 1050 now, and it seems unnoticable, but sure it does flocker. I huse other laptop / tablet with this display and I have no issues till 1920x1200, so display has nothing to do, it is internal graphics which drives VGA port.
I have upgraded all drivers from HTC site as well as done Vista SP1.
Any help, why this happens and what needs to be done?

Do I need to edit the post?

I have been having a lot of problems with a Pinnacle Hybrid, but then I removed all SW, installed the SW coming with a EMTEC USB DVB-T and ONLY THE DRIVERS of the Pinnacle.
With the EMTEC SW I can use both the EMTEC and the PINNACLE without problems.

Does it work with external display? I have managed to get Pinncle working on Shift display, but it doesn't work on external diaplay. I use Viesonic 26" @1920x1200. I have tried DVD playbacl software too, again it works on Shift internal display but on external display it just remains a blue / black window. Couldn't understand why. I tried to lower the res to sometihng 1400x1050 etc. and DVD plays but quality reduces drastically. Why does it has problems on external display? I am going to get another SHIFT, it's true!!
I am so satisfied with Shift (not because WM issues) but it is the thing which allowed me to really work as I wished. I tried all laptops (?? I forgot earlier ones, Asus, Benq, last Toshiba Satelite A100 Pro), PDAs (Palm m505, Treo 600, Axim X50V, Nokia N800; completelly rubbish but highly claimed mobile phones pushed as PDAs such as Nokias 6300, SE600Ki, N73, N95 & N82 - the last N82 annoyed me so much that I have tried to crush it at times!!) UMPC (Sony Vaio VGN UX-180P... I now even hate to think about bying anything Sony as far as IT is concerned, may be it is just good for TV and walkmans), Tablets (Compaq TC1000 (my first low cost trial), than Fujitsu Stylistic ST5112 which I still have) and settled for Shift now. I will sale my 2 off Shifts only when something better of the same line will come from HTC only). I realized what really matters is not hi-fi specs, blueray 1080P displays, 5.1 dolby audios or glossy displays etc...etc..., the thing which really matters is the thing which allows to work as and when you wish (office work, and not a graphics desighning offcourse)

So what's next after the Universal?

Hi,
Does anyone have any idea what the next "best" HTC device to replace the Universal will be? Or from any other manufacturer for that matter...
Better Battery?
Faster CPU?
etc etc
Cheers,
I've been wondering this myself. I'm quite taken by the Loox T830, unfortunately it's only got a 240x240 screen, but that might be sufficient if the actual device is small enough. Would make a refreshing change from the bulk of my JasJar.
I think we'll be waiting a pretty long time for something that truly outdoes the JasJar on all fronts...
Maybe a fast Universal with no memory leaks and more storage space...
don't hold back ssarl, say what you think lol! but I have to agree, shame they don't make a linux or osx based one eh!
Maybe HTC Trinity??
No idea, how the specs of this device are ...
I love my Exec, but wish the battery was of a higher capacity.
My next device will be the same shape hopefully (love the twisting faux-notebook clamshell design) but a tad smaller - theres wasted space around the screen I could live without!
It'll continue to take a full SD card, nothing less, it'll hopefully have a 4 to 8Gb hard drive, it'll have 3G AND quad band, it'll be pre-loaded with the Bluetooth Stereo and Bluetooth Remote Control Profiles, it'll have Opera in ROM (I can dream!), it'll come with the MS Voice Command software in ROM too, and I'll get it for less than £130 on contract at xmas, just like my Exec.
Oh and the MSN Messenger will use the front facing cam too as a webcam.
Make it happen MS/HTC/O2. And by the 20th of December this year pls. Daddy needs a new toy this christmas.
EDIT: Yeah, GPS too, latest SIRF chipset please - how could I forget that?
What he said, but with built in GPS.
Oh, and a microwave would benice too
Pick the Advance TC M.A.G.I.C. From my take, this is the best device possible to upgrade to:
http://www.advancetc.com/
That M.A.G.I.C. does look pretty good, but after the Uni, I'll be going for something a little smaller.
Not sure if they'll ever see the light of day, but did anyone see the devices from a new Chinese OEM that appeared on engadgetmobile.com yesterday? They look fairly promising, WM5, WCDMA, WiFi, GPS, USB OTG, 512Mb RAM & ROM, 2Mpx Camera, etc, etc.
They'll probably take about a year to come out in China, let alone anywhere else (and that's assuming it isn't vapourware from the start), but they're the sort of specs that I'll be looking for when I upgrade.
I'd like a decent FM radio - I'd like to listen to Radio 4 on the way to work.

I really like this one...
Windows XP Tablet Pc Edition and Windows Mobile 5 in one device.
40 GIG hard drive.
1 GIG ddr2 ram an 1 GIG NAND Flash Memory.
3 USB 2 ports etc etc
The only thing I mis is a hardware keyboard.

I like the widescreen 800x480 screen that the dualcor has... shame about the keyboard though. Since upgrading from an XDA II to EXEC i have come to realise the usefulness of a built-in keyboard.
being able to run xp is brilliant too... it would be nice to be able to run win xp based programs/games that you really need...
The dual cor is nice, but it would probably leave a huge burn mark on our pockets.
I do prefer Linux... But if something can run XP it can run Linux )
Hopefuly...
Cheers!

Suggest that you look at the Sharp Zaurus SL-C3200 if you want LINUX.
Similar size to the Universal including swivel screen & real VGA with 6gb hard disk as well as CF & SD slots, but no phone facilities. It can run a number of different LINUX distros.
I use my Zaurus alongside the Universal for the things that the Universal cant handle.
Mike
Mike,
Thanks
But there are some problems.
1st of all I need TomTom.
2nd I need phone I just can't imagine caring TWO devices all the time
Also, I do need email, web browser, keyboard etc
At this moment ONLY Universal seems to be doing the trick.
Thanks anyway!
Cheers!

Except that does not have a VGA screen, is bigger than the Universal, and since it has 512mb of ram will have around an hours battery life...
Basically, I would'nt count on it.
Whell guys.... Im just waitting to put my hands on a SE p990....
This universal busness is starting to suck.... btooth is a major flaw.... the signal stinks compared to £30 mobile phones... wifi is also another disapointment with poor range.....and as for the battery wont even mention that..... I was willing to put up with its size since previous I had to carry both a pda and a phone separatelly but....
....This would be a very nice device for my daily buisness runnings withouth a doubt but unfortunatelly as it stands its only good in my opinion for enthusiastic people that like to have a good mess around with it.... as far as a buisness tool as it was intended or at least marketed its just a failure until such further development...
At least with sony on knows that it will be released singing and dancing and also that nice uiq system....
Ill buy a p990 and keep this one for a while still and see how things go before i blow my trompet any further
BR
hum maybe about 2gb storage 128ram faster access time on data, wifi that lets u log on with out the need for ssid enabled @ the router , full size vids in media player "tcptp" ect, ect, not fan of adding stuff that was in xda ii,(I think but all my vids were low res similar size to screen) ow maybe composite video out, audio out is just gr8 don’t go backward’s 3.5 jack is gr8 , hum maybe similar keyboard that was on Psion 5 but it's not too bad as it is. A descent bt stack & mapping of network resources like printers, hard drives. USB port that hosts & maybe have an accessory power pack on cable to run hi power devices for longer times. 5mp camera and msn messenger that supports webcam & bt head set for chat & possibly file transfer.
 we all can dream, would be nice to watch vids like I used to on my xdaii but it just is not fast enough running @ 640 * 480 and all my old vids are now too small in media player and not really wanting to add more space taking software
 ow well defiantly went over board but would be nice though

Review: Testing my new Celluon CL850

I just received my CL850 virtual Keyboard today. Try to set up, it is easy - medium setup. It took me about 30 min from installing the drivers and connecting it to my HTC Tilt. It work on my WM 6.1 Dutty's Rom with a WM5 (the latest driver).
The keyboard overall is very good, if you want me to rates from 1-10 with 10 is the best, I will give 9. It is easy to type and adjust the sensitivity, I can see cleary even I am in very bright room. And the keyboard stroke sound can be adjust into four levels plus no sound, with quick function. So you don't need to be worry bothering other people if you are in a library.
The downsize of the keyboard: (1) it only can use on flat surface, so you need to place it on the table, (2) You can't assign a button on some of 4-unassign keyboard keys. I try to look at the manual so far but can't find any guide how to do it. I will try to contact a customer service if I can assign a button. It will be very helpful if I can assign those 2 soft left and right buttons key.
It is my first day got the item, I still need a further test and lets you guys know. Thanks
Nice, I've never seen a review on this keyboard before, only some previews. I have the iTech VKB but I don't like the fact that it lacks usb connection as I would like to connect it to my PC. Yes I know you can connect it with bluetooth but I would like to use it when entering the BIOS and also choosing OS to boot.
Does it work with USB on a standard PC without drivers or do you have to install the ones from Celluon? I'm asking this because I rarely use Windows. I read that it does indeed require drivers and therefore won't work on for ex. Linux based phones or Linux PC's.
I have an iTech VKB but it only has bluetooth and the quality is not that good. It tilts over easily too.
One problem with these keyboards are that if you typ a key that is between to IR sensor and another key you are typing it won't register. It does also not like too many simultaneous presses.
I really like the fact that you just need to swipe the table instead of opening the keyboard when it gets really dirty inside.
Well this is very interesting but It's expensive at least if ordering to Sweden.
I just got one today and It's the greatest "keyboard" I have used ever. It works all the way from bios to the Ubuntu desktop. It's much better than the itech vkb. The more solid construction prevents it from tilting as easy as the itech. It seems I have to adjust sensitivity however. The touch-pad feature is great and it feels to me like it supports multi-touch. Finally no more cleaning of the keyboard.
My current problem is scrolling in touch-pad mode. Arrows and dragging the right bar works but I would really like scrolling in the middle.
I thought the silverish button on the top was a push button but it was actually capacitive.
I haven't tried bluetooth because Ubuntu has currently big trouble with bluetooth.
Another problem is when playing games that require WASD and the mouse. The touch-pad feature won't work at the same time as the keyboard except the most basic buttons like ENTER and ARROWS.
PS. CTRL-ALT-DEL works (emergency reboot).
cl850 celluon laser keyboard/mouse on wm6?
I've gotten the keyboard to work via bluetooth and it works amazingly on my omnia wm6.1; had it working on previous dell axim x51v and palm tx... BUT, I haven't been able to get the mouse portion to work under wm... both keyboard and mouse work great in XP... any suggestions?
What drivers are you using and how did you set them up on wm6.1?
I have tried all the latest drivers from Celluon on my HTC Fuze p4600 and none will go.
I get an 'initialization error' when I try to run the setup util on the phone.

I get the same error when running the software on my Touch Diamond. This happens when running their app from the control panel.
From their site i've tried
SmartPhone [WM6.0] PKSetup_v1.9 / PocketPC WM6PPC_PKSetup_v1.9
Rob
Rob,
I did actually get this device to function with my p4600. I have since switched to another device, however, if I remember correctly I think it was the pocket PC 2003 drivers (not smart phone) that I FINALLY got to work, though the keyboard function was rather choppy while typing. You also have to start (and leave running) the Virtual KB app every time you want to use it.
Under XP, Vista and even Win7 the keyboard functions surprisingly well.. I just wish there were more support for mobile devices, which is where this device would really shine.
Interesing, i've just tried
Smartphone - [WM2003] PKSetup_v1.1.exe and it has a start menu app instead of control panel, that program does find the keyboard and it works. It seems accurate but its really slow, ie typing hello, you finish and then it start's its clicking noise and the letters appear.
The previous ones I tried was WM6.0 version 1.9 under both smartphone and PocketPC, although both zip files are identical size.
So when you used it and it was rather choppy, too slow to actaully use? Just wondering if the WM6 ones would work at a good speed if they worked.
http://www.celluon.com/common/data/list.html?a_gb=data&a_cd=3&a_item=0
The 2k3 drivers were the only ones I could get to function at all, and yes it was too slow to use. I assume this poor performance is not caused by a limitation of the phone or the keyboard because like I said in the previous post it functions flawlessly on a PC (XP,Vista and Win7) as well as with my Nokia (Symbian) device. This of course leads me to believe that if the correct driver or driver program existed and were used then this lag in typing would go away.
On another note it seems there are some people that have no problems using the WM6 drivers on their 6.1 devices which makes me think the incompatibility could reside on the device manufacturer side of things.. IE HTC has some setting or settings enabled/disabled in the OS which makes the driver program error out. I can only assume it would be an easy fix.. if it were just known what the problem is.
I have sent several messages to Celluon about this matter and receive nothing in return. I am afraid its just a defunct company at this point. Its ashame because its such a great little device. I don't think there are enough units out in the world to receive much community support.
oh man
I have one and I love it to death, but it does NOT get along with windows mobile 6.5
anybody seen any anything resembling a glimmer of hope? I've seen some of the stuff the xda beasts do, there has to be a way to get this to work.
Ive got the latest WM driver i could find on the celluon site & it all installed fine on my HD2 the only thing is i cant get it to connect via bluetooth, when i try & connect im asked for a passcode & whatever i enter it just says there was an error.
EDIT: Solved that, got all the way to selecting Projection Keyboard in the keyboard menu, then i get an error 'The security account database contains an internal inconsistency'

Redfly

Anyone else use this device?
I chose to purchase the Touch Pro and the RedFly instead of the Shift.
I do see on celiocorp.com that the Touch Pro is not yet supported, I went ahead & purchased it anyway due to the fact that its on sale for $199 until Oct. 31.
has anyone tested any of the current drivers for the supported windows mobile 6.1 devices and get it to connect with the Touch Pro?
Any helpful information would be appreciated, thank you.
woohoo! i got it working!
i'm glad i made this choice instead of the shift.
Hi,
I bought it too, and use it with my TouchPro, using one of the BETA-drivers for regular QVGA devices.
So it does not work well yet...everything is at least twice if not four times as big as it should be on the screen, Opera does not work either.
BUT even so...I still use the RedFly a lot (notes in meetings, and some surfing in PIE at home in the evenings)....so this promises well for later!
When the actual Diamond/TouchPro drivers come (from what I have heard, Celio is working on it as-we-speak), this will get a lot better...looking forward to that...then I can park my laptop most of the time, and use the RedFly for practically all my "on the go" stuff.
And then with RedFly against LogMeIn (www.logmein.com), I can also take over work- and home-PC's remotely, and do everything the RedFly itself can't do.
In short...love the RedFly...and at 199 USD...the price was just right for me!
And before people start hammering out that you can get a laptop for X dollars...I do not want a laptop...I actually like that the RedFly has looong batterylife, that it is instant on, that it does not get warm, that I do not need to install/setup another PC (I got many enough at work and home as it is. So for me...RedFly is "the thing"!
Can you use the VGA out and usb ports on the redfly? What output resolution? What can you plug into the usbs?
its not 100%, but it works well.
i can't wait until the updated drivers are released.
i did alot of research b4 purchasing the Touch Pro. i had an HTC Advantage x7501 and i wanted to downsize. i couldnt decide between a pocketpc or an umpc & a standard cell.
my biggest thing is i wanted to be able to pick up the phone w/ ease and be able to use it without a headset as well as have access to my emails, mobile apps, etc.
I had gotten used to the 7 inch screen on my advantage... so then i saw the Redfly and it was perfect! it doesnt replace a laptop, but it does make my pocketpc more user friendly. i'm able to utilize my mobile apps on an 8 inch screen and keyboard.
i use alot of apps that i hadn't b4.

go to www.celiocorp.com , it will give you all the tech. details to the device.
I am using my Touch Pro with an eeePC 900... perfect combination of full WinXP mini laptop and mobile internet. Plus I charge my Pro from the eee while in use too!
I'm experimenting now with RedFly - as my Raphael is on repair vacation - with Hermes. So fa so good and the current price ($199) is still a bit above it's real value (takieng into account eeePC - especially 901 - and similar devices). All I can say now is that 800x480 screen requires a lot of processing power and Hermes is barely able to handle this. I hope, that Raphael with it's mush speedier processor will work better.
The big problem so far is incompatibility with Opera 9.5 on Hermes for both OVGA and VGA versions.
i prefer the redfly over my eeepc 1000HD, because my goal is to utilize the pocketpc, software and processor thats available on it; that is why i chose to purchase a pocket pc over a standard cell & carrying a umpc or a mini pc.
i luv the fact that you don't have to wait for it to boot, and it uses your phone for the processor.
i think the price is perfect, being that i paid $100 for my stowaway bluetooth keyboard a year back.
it works well with my Touch Pro and I'm sure it will work much better once the drivers are released that support the Touch Pro.
i highly recommend it.
I have had the RedFly for another week now...and use it more and more...and the batterylife is exceptional. Brought the RedFly and my TouchPro on a trip last weekend (left on friday morning)...and dropped bringing a charger, thought the RedFly could charge my phone.
And during the weekend I used the RedFly over usbcable in the evenings while surfing...and the phone got charged from 50-60% to full both times.
And used the RedFly regularily during this week over bluetooth in meetings and a little surfing in the evenings.
And still have not charged the RedFly...one week later...that is truly amazing for a guy who is used to a 1.5-2 hour batterylife on my laptop. Of course this is not an laptop...but it sure does the job for me.
Miss the drivers though.
Would like to use Opera (which fails with current drivers), higher resolution.
Another issue, which really is not anRedFly issue, but an issue with HTC/LogMeIn, is that LogMeIn has a few snags with the TouchPro and TouchDiamond...the hardware keyboard of the TouchPro (and thereby also the RedFly is affected) does not work with LogMeIn at the moment (have just raised a ticket with support at LogMeIn, but I am sure someone has already done so before).
When I have the drivers, with Opera and resolution fixed, AND LogMeIn fixes their issues with TouchPro...my RedFly will be my soulmate! :-D
Only stuff I would use a "real computer for" then will be when I sit and develop software at work (I work with developing software for Windows Mobile)...for that stuff I still prefer a big 24" screen with mega resolution!
I tried Shift but found the battery quite disappointing. I then tried the X7510 but the keyboard is good but not good enough for note taking at work.
Have been using Redfly for a few days with my touchpro. Things I like about Redfly:
1) Almost instant-on (extremely pleased with the responsiveness)
2) Excellent battery life (more than enough for an office day)
3) The $199 price (probably the best price performance option at this point).
4) Least maintenance (when I refresh my touchpro to a newer rom, the performance on redfly also improves. On top of it, I no longer to keep syncing files in 2 separate devices.)
5) Performance with a touchpro is very good on USB/BT pairing. (no complaint)
Things on my wish list for the future Redfly.
1) Size and weight could be slimmer and lighter.
2) Other users have mentioned about touchpro driver and video improvement.
3) May be more flexibilities to allow users to map buttons to programs.
4) So simple that it could become boring to use after a while.
Overall, I am quite happy with my new Redfly.
Man, I just got my Alltel ppc 6800 upgraded to wm6.1 and got my Redfly and now I'm already drooling over your Pros. The ram on the 6800 just gets overloaded too easily, the Pro would fix that entirely.
LogMeIn though on the 6800 is close to perfect, you can run all the Enterprise level stuff like SAP that just crawls on VPN on a notebook at real network speeds using LogMeIn and the Redfly, it makes the Redfly/phone combo actually seriously better than a regular notebook on the road for big applications on the corporate network. Using LogMeIn on a 2.8 inch screen used to make me want to claw my own eyes out but on the Redfly it works fine, for a guy who spends a lot of time on the road this is sweet. The only problem I have now is I can't update my Ipod on the road, I love podcasts and there is no easy way to get them on my ipod touch without a computer.

How do you use your Touch Pro *with* your eeePC... do they connect - and does the eeePC display the screen from the Touch pro?
Or are you just tethering and using them together that way?
I have an ASUS AspireOne and am very intrigued.
Hi there,
Can you be more specific about the exact driver that you got to work with the Touch Pro? Also, was yours a Sprint Touch Pro? I'm assuming that they have NOT been, and there may be some carrier-specific incompatibilities that are going to make me wait for an official driver.
thanks for any wisdom!

The tytnII driver works but unfortunately you cannot use the touchflo 3d today plug-in. The touch pro driver beta is coming out pretty soon as they have started looking for some beta testers.
I'm guessing you don't have a *SPRINT* Touch Pro that you've gotten to work with the tytnII drivers? I have seen from other threads that this may be a totally incompatible combination.
I disabled TouchFlo, installed the drivers and the Redfly didn't connect.
I can also confirm that the Sprint Touch Pro does not work with those drivers... The driver installs fine, and the phone recognizes that something is connected to it, but the redfly does not connect to the phone.
Redfly support confirmed that the driver was coming out soon. I can't wait. I have two and they are both plugged in and charging until they can be used...
It is sad to see the cute little red box on my desk every day and not being able to use it.

I get the same results. I hope the driver comes out soon!
Download for the Beta drivers for Touch Pro/Diamond at the Celio website. Also will need to update the Redfly firmware to get these drivers to work.

Hello everyone,
I am interested in a port of Android for the HP iPAQ 310 Series Travel Companion. It seems like a fairly capable piece of hardware, but HP dropped the product and hampered by some buggy software issues. It normally runs Windows CE 5.0 with a custom shell. The screen is beautiful on the thing, the hardware seems to have potential, although it does lack Wifi and WWAN. An SD Wifi card can always be added or it could be tethered via Bluetooth for network access. But never the less, I think it would be a wonderful Android device, especially if there were some way of caching Google Map data on SD or in the 2GB of built-in SLC memory.
I tried to dig up what I can on the internals. I have not been able to find a Linux port specifically to the Centrality Titan processor. Centrality was purchased by Sirf. Since it is ARM11 based, I imagine it shouldn't be too difficult to get Linux up and running.
The GPS receiver is the SE4110L.
I/O is handled by the Wolfson Microelectronics WM9712:
Voice processing is handled by the Fortemedia FM1182.
Bluetooth is handled by the Cambridge Silicon Radio BlueCore 4.
What do you guys think? Would this be feasible to pull off? Are there any other Android based devices that have similar hardware that make make this possible?
Still no updates?
I am going to try Andromnia Port for Samsung Omnia on this device. Just for start.
Try something with a WVGA resolution. Only other 4.3 inch screen device is the hd2.... Never heard of this, is it old?

It is about 2 years old, great device but so stupidly abandoned by HP (along with entire iPaq brand)...
Great 800x480 screen, 600Mhz CPU with both GPU and GPS. Perfect ground for Android!
bump
I own 2 of these lol. I also abandoned it when i started buying android phones. I am interested in this as well.
Hello everyone,
I am glad to see there is some interest in an Android port to this device. I wasn't sure I would receive any replies at first. Now that I see a few of us would like a port lets see what we need to do to accomplish this. I will investigate a few venues for us this afternoon. It is damn shame to let a capable hardware device like this fall by the wayside. It really seemed to have great potential.
I would imagine their are two routes to take. One would be to natively boot Android on the device. This would require the most work and I do not know if all of the hardware would be supported.
The other option would be to go the route of booting Android from a Windows CE based boot loader, similar to other Windows Mobile to Android ports. I think this would probably be the easier route to take.
Does anyone know of any other Windows Mobile or native Android devices with similar components?

As far as I know, Centrality (SIRF) Titan is used in only one type of device - out poor Travel Companion.
Though, I could be compatible with some other CPUs. I'll try to find out.
Hi guys, I've got one of these devices, for some time now,
I've mannaged to hack it, by changing registry settings in
HKLM\INIT and put explorer as an extra launch.
I did find something here:
http://www.smartqmid.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=12
There is simmilar device running linux
and they trying android to boot from SD card:
http://www.jiongtang.com/blog/html/smartq5/boot-the-smartq-5-from-sd-card.html
You have to partition SD card, like here:
http://www.jiongtang.com/blog/html/...-install-software-on-sd-card-for-smartq5.html
There is more info there.
So any luck with running Android on iPAQ?

I think, you have to install Linux first and then load Android.
Go here and start reading:
handhelds.org/handhelds-faq/handhelds-faq.html
just add www at the front, someone stuffed something up and
I cannot post url's
I have already started, very interesting article, scroll down and get
PDF file.
Hey guys,
has anybody, by any chance, got the data sheets for this Titan processor,
some owners managed to brick the devices beyond repairs, I think it was due to very low temperature last winter, and the NAND, and boot loader were erased.
Someone is trying to develop some dumper, which would allow to dump the bootloader from working unit and then load it back by JTAG, and then all the rest by normal way from SD card, but he needs these Data Sheets.
HP is not interested in helping, they want money.
One of the rom cooking Gurus has developed simple tool to convert DiskRW's
image dump to the working boot files, which are TINYNK.bin, CHAIN.bin and NK.bin, I have managed to add some .dll files from MioPocket to NK.bin, I think
something about 20 files including all WiFi dlls.
There is big potential here.
hey nice people,
I have managed to install and run DOS on my 312 model,
there is only small problem, the very small keyboard, which pops up
as a part of the DOS screen. We can use PC's keyboard or maybe some
USB one.
There is no far to install Linux and Android, just have to find one.
Sorry, didn't put any links and names:
I've installed PcketDOS_1123 from here:
http://www.pocketdos.com/download.htm
The OEM version is not free, the other one is.
Look at this:
http://dev.openaos.org/browser/trun...-4.1.2_glibc-2.5_linux-2.6.18.ptxconfig?rev=6
interesting thread. Anyone still tinkering with their 310's?
yeah another bump
I'm an interested 310 owner

Recommend a Android Stick Setup Intended to Be Used As Replacement for PC

I need to replace my parents 7 year old Windows PC with a new one. I was thinking of getting a Android stick instead since their uses are limited to Skype, Hangouts, Facebook, occassional browsing and YouTube. Besides, at least my mom has become pretty familiar with her Android phone.
What I have in mind is this:
Buy a monitor with HDMI port or DVI. The monitor will have built in speakers as well. Connect the stick to it.
Attach a USB hub to the stick.
Attach webcam, keyboard and mouse to the hub. Alternatively, attach keyboard and mouse to the USB ports in the monitor (if available). I don't want to use bluetooth because they will find recharging the keyboard/mouse difficult.
My questions are:
How effective this setup will be for the above mentioned purposes? The reason I ask this is because most people seem to be using Android stick primarily as a media player.
I tried hooking up two tablets to my TV, neither of them gave full screen. Will I face such problems with the stick? Do I need to look for any specific monitor resolutions or aspect ratios?
If I attach keyboard and mouse to the monitor's USB port, will it work?
Are there any sticks which will support touch screen monitors out of the box?
Will it play the sound through monitor out of the box?
In case I have to use bluetooth, can I pair both keyboard and mouse at the same time?
Do I need to shutdown the stick just like a PC or will a simple mains switch off be enough? Or can I leave it running all the time without worrying about the power consumption?
Please recommend a good stick for this purpose.
Am I overlooking something? Will I need any extra components?
I will most likely be telling them over the phone on how to set up the whole thing. So any kind of tinkering with software (like rooting or some form of modding) will not be possible.

I have a Minix X7, which is my first android mini pc.. here's my thoughts regarding your list:
1. If you connect the mini pc (stick or otherwise) using HDMI cable to the monitor, you will have audio through the monitor.
2. If you buy a mini pc instead of a stick, you wouldn't need an additional usb hub (see X5 or X7)
3. You will need to use a logitech webcam (at least to use stock roms on Minix)
4. For browsing, Facebook, and Skype, the X7 will handle that easily, on a wired/wireless connection
5. Full screen works fine (either 1080p or 720p)
6. I have never used a touch screen monitor, but this thread has some guidance (http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?1802-Touchscreen).. a little more involved than plug-and-play
7. The X7will pair both a keyboard and mouse via bt at once, though I would recommend using the usb ports if you are setting it up at a desk
8. My X7 almost never gets shut off. Usually just shut off the monitor and let it stay on. The power consumption is minimal, especially when not being used.
Also, as far as a recommendation, I find the X7 to be pretty good. You'd probably be ok with an X5 if they aren't planning on using it as a media center and want to save some $$$. A lot of the cheap sticks are made by manufacturers who do not provide updates or product support, but since the end of July, Minix has come out with 3 firmware updates, and another one is almost ready. (They would have released update 005 except Rockchip released an update to their code and Minix want to integrate it prior to their next release, as it improves video playback).
On the negative side, the firmware does still have occasional glitches. Although my X7 has been up for days on end, every once in a while it just freezes up, and i have to pull the power cable, plug it back in, and turn it on. Also, the X7 had some early issues with SD cards, but if you don't plan on using an SD card, that shouldn't be an issue.
If you believe an android device will do everything your parents need in a PC, I think it's a great idea. Low power consumption (4W vs the 160-220W of my HTPC), low heat, no noise, low price, and decent reliability.
One more thought, if you wish to root/update firmware, etc, get the device shipped to you, then ship it to your parents. It'll take a few more days, but you can set it up and make sure everything suits their needs prior to delivery..

That is a great wright up of x7 I love mine and agree 100 % with what you have said here. I've tried the uab sticks they don't work as well plus no heat on the x7 that thing is built well to last. I have set p.o.s. (point of sales) systems up in the past using the x5 cheap and fast browsing experience.
Good luck hope your parents are happy with what ever you end up doing.

I have MK808b (dual core with 1GB RAM), and using it as a media center, but also as a PC for browsing INTERNET. It is connected to pc monitor with HDMI, and works perfectly in full HD resolution.
I can't find any reason not to use it as a replacement for PC, especially if you use cloud storage services.

Thanks very much for this detailed reply. Really appreciate you taking time to write all these.
I have dropped the idea of using touch screen, since they seem to be 3 times the cost of a regular monitor (in India).
Regarding the shipping, I am in US now and parents are in India. I am not exactly sure if customs will cause any problems. That's why I am thinking of ordering from eBay India itself. Only problem is eBay India seller is charging around $204, probably because this is a new device.

If this works as expected for the above purposes, I am the one who will be more happy. In the last 2 years, I have spent a lot of hours through LogMeIn remote desktop updating and maintaining the PC. Where my parents stay, there are scheduled powercuts for 1 hour per day for atleast half of the year, and power comes and goes every now and then even otherwise. This inconsistency in power was another reason that made me lean towards the mini PCs. Besides, my mom, who is the primary user of the PC, has become more familiar with Android (through her phone), and she likes playing the games a lot as well.

What resolution is your monitor?
Cloud storage will be a problem, since the internet at my parents house is only 512 kbps.
I am thinking of getting the X7 or X5 mainly because of the software updates, since I won't need to purchase any hub and since I can use my existing Logitech C310 webcam.
I have few more questions regarding the X7:
1. How responsive is the keyboard and mouse? Can I expect a response similar to a normal Windows PC?
2. If I use a monitor that has a resolution between 720p and 1080p (something like 1360x768 for example), will the device handle it properly or will it look odd (like stretched)?
3. Will it get updated automatically? I saw one video in YouTube in which he was manually flashing it using some Windows utility. Is that the only way to update?
I have two devices.
First device is a 70 dollar single core tablet with a broken touch screen. It was to expensive to fix it so I turned it into a server.
1. it runs Servers ultimate pro running a WebDav server, PHP/MySQL server for RSS feeds and a home site for the family, ddns updater and an FTP server.
2. it is running a surveillance app that sends an email to me the moment anything moves in the camera shot.
3. runs a PocketMine-MP server
4. runs an app to auto stop and start apps dring certain times of the day.
All this is remotely accessible VIA webkey.
Second device is an iMito MX1
1. it has a 7 port hub attached.
2. a HD webcam for Skype.
3. two harddrives (a 1 TB driver for media storage and a 720GB for internal memory replacement)(more on that in a min)
4. plays netflix, red box, youtube, Vevo, crackle and XBMC... to name a few
5. has 32 games loaded up with a Logitech F710 wireless controller VIA an app for onscreen touch.
6. Logitech full sized KB and Mouse.
I use this thing for web browsing, shooting vids and pics over to it from my phone for family sharing(DLNA)
The 750gig harddrive is currently the SDCARD but the internal one(NAND). The internal NAND is no longer used and the harddrive is where the OS stores the app's file to SD and the apps extra downloads. This has allowed me to download 15 games that contain 1+gig of extra data each.
All this has replaced two PC's in my house running 24/7. My electric bill has dropped 100+ dollars a month and the house has become quieter.
Let me tell you that two PC's(one was a server and the other a media center) running at full speed just to watch a movie took 280 watts of power. My new setup only consumes 24 at peak! Plus less heat and fan noise! I changed over around a year ago and never looked back or miss my old setup.
If you plan on running one fore a PC replacement I recommend a quad core. Sometimes the browsers can get a bit poky and that is due to the slower CPU. Also Webkey a must for remote management. This one FREE app has saved me more times then I can could. It has tons of functions and features but it's best feature is the remote control. It is just like setting in front of the device but just a tad slower. It is not a perfect app but it is the only remote app that I have found to work time and time again.

My monitor is 24" 1080p, and it's perfectly suitable for the purpose
For the office documents, 512kbps is quite enough, but not for pics, videos....

I'm glad to share my experience. I was a bit hesitant to buy one originally, but have been more than happy with my purchase.
I bought mine from http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MINIX-NEO-X7-Android-TV-Box-RK3188-Quad-Core-Mini-PC-1-6GHz-2G-16G-WiFi/1086507000.html# shipped DHL for only $3 more, and had it delivered in 3 days to Hawaii from China.
Updates are kind of a pain until they implement OTA updates, which they say they're going to do. That's why I recommend shipping to you first, and then you can send to your parents. I understand the customs issue though.. tough decision on that one.
I use mine on a 55" 1080p tv, and the picture quality is outstanding. The picture does not looked stretched or odd any any way. I believe it will detect the correct display settings and you can set the resolution you desire in /settings/display/resolution (trying to remember exact menu it's under)
The keyboard and mouse is just as responsive as a windows pc. There are a couple of times there is a bit of lag, but that is just a function of how much stuff is running. Even when you experience lag, it isn't anything significant.
There is a working version of CWM that will allow you to flash updates like an Android phone, but you will have to use the pc utility to install CWM (available on freaktab.com) Once CWM is installed, you can package the update files into a zip that is premade other than your update files, and it'll update for you.
There is a lot more information on freaktab.com. I alternated between that and minixforums.com for a while when trying to decide which android mini pc to buy. After weeks of research, I decided the wait for the X7 was worth it, and haven't regretted my decision since.
Thanks very much for all the replies. Sorry that I didn't reply for a long time. I tried ordering Minix Neo X7 from the AliExpress link. But they rejected my payment due to security concerns (I used an US credit card and gave India adress which probably raised some red flags). Then I ordered from eBay India. Waiting for it to be shipped.
I also came across another interesting product that could have satisfied all my requirements. Its the ViewSonic VSD220. Its a touch screen monitor with speakers, web cam, USB ports and is a Android mini PC. The only down side was that a YouTube review said its processor is not upto the mark.

I think you'll get better performance out of the X7. Have you read all the info, etc on minixforums.com? Also, starting with FW006, they are supporting SDCard firmware updates (theoretically, though I haven't tried it)

Your guidance would be greatly appreciated. What would you reccomend for luanchers or either installing a new system on the Tronsmart T428. I just can't stand using the android with my wifi keyboard w built-in mouse. The android pop-up keyboard takes up half of my projector screen when it pops up even with null keyboard installed. When selecting a link if a similar page ops up there is no scroll bars on the right letting you know to scroll down or if ytou are still on the smae page waiting for stuff to upload. i guess I'm looking for more of an Ubuntu 10x or windows experience. Traditional keyboard and mouse vs touch screen. NOw that I think about it I bet I have to get hulu plus to watch anything on this bc it acts like a tablet.
