I was wondering if there was a way to select more than one contact at a time when texting or MMS'ing. ie: instead of typing in each name or pressing the To: and then selecting each name from Contacts....
Is there a way to select them all (10 recipients for MMS and 16 for SMS) and then return to the message and send it..... It's just a PITA to have to keep going into the contact list for each name.....
Tia
Anyone ?? Thank You...
I just type in the first two letters of the contact name and the rest is automatic man, set your keyboard to suggest a word after 1 or two letters..no need to go to contacts at all..
Is there a way to text a group, and more than ten @ atime
I suggest getting a program called group-sms it is free.
Or if you want to go one better get smschat but you have to pay

Thought I'd throw this one in incase I'd missed something.
There appears to be some basic failings in the ability to cut and paste phone numbers between various applications on the WM phone.
Take the example that I receive a SMS text message from someone not in my contacts database.
I know who the person is and I want to create a new contact entry using the received phone number.
There appears to be no way of cutting or copying the phone number from the messaging section and pasteing it into a new Contact.
Or it may be that I already have an entry for the person I just don't have their mobile number number in the contact record (or what ever new number is received).
Have I missed a trick here - or indeed is this a limitation that exists. If there is a work around I'd love to know. i just have such an appauling memory for numbers that I couldn't even remember between flicking between applications - let alone the scope for error.
Thanks
Re: Annoyance with WM5 behaviour related to number cut and p
Open the message (instead of just reading it from the list or notification window). You'll note that the From: field is already selected.
Press the Menu softkey, then Save to Contacts.
Simple as that
OK so that allows you to create a new contact. Once you have them in contacts you can do a copy of the number and paste it into an original record. Then delete the new contact just created. Ideally I'd like to miss out the intermediate step of creating another new contact - for those where I know I already have a contact entry, but just not with that particular number.
I agree with you.
There should be an extra choice after save to contact.
Like new contact/ add to contact.
The same with email. If i want to add an emailadres it makes a new contact.
An other problem i find is that copy/ paste is not always available when i select a text.
When I rename a file in file explorer I can't select the word and copy/paste by "tap and hold".
Now i use GSPocket Magic to copy/ paste
You would have thought that on the, what is it, 3rd iteration of WM they could have sorted this out.
It is behaviour like this that can make all the diference between something that is really user friendly and something which is torturous.
Hopefully there are some influential people who read this that can feed it back to the powers that be.
You can try PQz fot copy/Paste : http://www.nicque.com/PQz/
This there too : http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33343
open up the message, where is says the from tap and drag on the screen to highlight the number then tap and hold on the highlighted but then when the menu opens click copy
Hi everyone,
if I search for a name via the dial numbers in the phone dialog (after pressing green dial button) it works fine to dial the numbers of the persons I found. But if I press the left or right key to switch between home or phone number, mail or sms, I'm not able to create SMS or mails out of this window. On my old htc artemis with wm6 but without touchFlo it worked fine and it is much more useful than going to contacts overview because of the easy searching.
Hope you understand what I try to say
Thanks for any help, Tobi
You are right. However, once name is selected (with <m>) you can tap "Menu" - "Send Text Message" to send SMS.
Hi,
You can search your contact on the sms or email screen. At the line of the phone number, you write the first words of your contact and you have the list of your repertory.
You have only to choose at which of them you want to send an sms. I think it's easiest like this !
Thanks for both of the answers
@azahidi: I found this out yesterday, you're right thats an option, but not an advance I think, menu is too inconvenient for finger control. the greatest problem is, that if I select a contact with my finger, the phone directly calls it insteat of just selecting it and giving me further options.
@pinou13: that's great, I didn't know this yet, I think that solves my problem in a way
But nevertheless, it would be great, if one could set that if I click on the contact in the dial window, instead of directly dealing the number, showing the same overview (call cell phone, call home, write mail, write sms) from the contacts window.
If someone know a solution to do so, please post it, but so far it's an alternative to do it via sms or mail menu.
Thanks, Tobi
You can solve your problem with the Spb Mobile Shell. It is very finger-friendly to use, I am happy with it, but it has to be paid after 14 days free trial. For details: http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/mobileshell/
Hm, looks great, but that's around 10% of the phones costs. I prefer to use freeware and I rather like touchFlo, but not in that one little thing
I have tried to find if this has been answered elsewhere so I apologise if I have missed it.
Got my HD2 this morning and the first thing I did was update the firmware to 1.48.
Synced with Outlook and it has my contacts. Tried to put my wife on the People tab as a favourite. My previous phone would have stored her and I would have had to select her work or mobile number after selecting her picture on the tab. However, I see I have to choose which number when I add her as a favourite. That's OK - so I select her mobile number. I then try and add her again with her work number as a separate favourite but that deletes her first entry. It looks like you can only have one favourite per contact even if they have more than one number. Surely that can't be right? I don't want to have to create separate contacts for every number for my favourite people!
Have I missed something?
TIA

Choose which number you're most likely to call - once the contact is added as a favourite, if you tap the name (as opposed to the picture) it will bring an "action" screen listing call mobile, call work, call home, send message, send email etc depending on what info is available for that contact
Thanks for the help, Isadora. That's good as it means I can have more favourite people. The only disappointent is that it is a little more difficult to hit the name instead of the picture if you're walking fast or something like that. But thanks again anyway.

If you add "View Contact Card" then the default action for that contact is to bring up the action list where you can call them, text them, email them etc..
It's a bit more like the original people style that was exhibited in TouchFlo.

When you select which contact you wish to add to the grid on People tab a seperate window will be displayed ^ the phone numbers & the option to add contact card will be there. Good luck!
Great! That's just what I needed. Now why can't a 310 page userguide tell you that?
Thanks

Am facing a strange problem with my new Nexus, In Messaging when am trying to compose a message, In TO option it doesn,t show nay name and not even show any names from contacts, For Example, in my Contacts there is a nmae JOHN, but When in Messaging TO Option when i Type J it soesn,t show any contacts started from J, Everytime i have to add the Mobile Number there or Send SMS via Contacts.
Help me regarding this
Unless you memorized the person's area code + number, the name will not appear when you composed regular texts. I have found the fastest way to compose texts is to scroll through the contacts, click the name, and then select the green message smiley. Adds a few seconds of time onto the composition, but you get faster with it when you're used to scrolling through your contacts.

That's not true. I type the first letter of the name and they show up. I know what your problem is too.
You need to edit your contacts and add the number as "Mobile". I assume right now you have them set as "Home" which is the default. Your phone doesn't display "Home" numbers when you're texting.

It was my understanding you had to type two letters to get the auto-suggest to pop up, not just one. Try "JO"...

You can type one or two. His problem is that he has their phone numbers set to "Home" instead of "Mobile".

Seriously, I've always (had a G1 since launch as well) had to type two letters before the suggestions came up, I'm actually testing this right now. Going through each letter of the alphabet, and nothing comes up with just one letter inputted. If your phone does it with one, I'd like to know how!

Oh well I guess you're right. I guess I've never stopped at one letter =P
But either way I know what he's talking about. My wifes number got changed to "Home" a while ago and it would NOT display her name in the TO field. I went to edit her contact and found that it said "Home" so I changed it to "Mobile" and it fixed it.
Speak of the devil. It just did it again and I just fixed it lol.
I have twice now gone through my contacts and set Mobile first, Home second, etc for several contacts. After my newest ROM flash, the order is all messed up again, even on the Google Contacts side of things.
Is there some feature I'm missing? Am I the only one that wants a predictable listing of phone numbers on my phone?
anyone? 10char
Someone must know...
I get very anoyed by the contact's numbers order.
In my country:
- the mobile numbers begin with 06...
- fixed line numbers depends of the town, but mostly are 011..., 021..., etc.
Now - it realy is a pain in the back to search for a person, and 99% of the time to scroll down to 2cond or third number to pick...
Even when I want to send a message - the same is needed, although in my country it is not possible to send a message to a fixed line number (I know in some countries it is possible).
Is there an app to choose the order of offered numbers to dial, send messages and similar?
Cheers
I found on another forum:
"If you do a long press on the office number, a menu will appear. From the menu, you can select "Make default number". This way, when you dial, it will automatically dial the office number."
But :
- it doesn't appy to message compose,
- it can be applyed to one number only - if someone have 2 mobile phones (personal and work) - it helps just 50%
- it has to be done person by person, and it is a pain...
- it doesn't apply to all the dialers (just to default one)
