Contacts Problem in Messaging - Nexus One General

Am facing a strange problem with my new Nexus, In Messaging when am trying to compose a message, In TO option it doesn,t show nay name and not even show any names from contacts, For Example, in my Contacts there is a nmae JOHN, but When in Messaging TO Option when i Type J it soesn,t show any contacts started from J, Everytime i have to add the Mobile Number there or Send SMS via Contacts.
Help me regarding this

Unless you memorized the person's area code + number, the name will not appear when you composed regular texts. I have found the fastest way to compose texts is to scroll through the contacts, click the name, and then select the green message smiley. Adds a few seconds of time onto the composition, but you get faster with it when you're used to scrolling through your contacts.

That's not true. I type the first letter of the name and they show up. I know what your problem is too.
You need to edit your contacts and add the number as "Mobile". I assume right now you have them set as "Home" which is the default. Your phone doesn't display "Home" numbers when you're texting.

It was my understanding you had to type two letters to get the auto-suggest to pop up, not just one. Try "JO"...

You can type one or two. His problem is that he has their phone numbers set to "Home" instead of "Mobile".

Seriously, I've always (had a G1 since launch as well) had to type two letters before the suggestions came up, I'm actually testing this right now. Going through each letter of the alphabet, and nothing comes up with just one letter inputted. If your phone does it with one, I'd like to know how!

Oh well I guess you're right. I guess I've never stopped at one letter =P
But either way I know what he's talking about. My wifes number got changed to "Home" a while ago and it would NOT display her name in the TO field. I went to edit her contact and found that it said "Home" so I changed it to "Mobile" and it fixed it.
Speak of the devil. It just did it again and I just fixed it lol.

how do you dial from a note?

I put a phone number down in the notes of my appointment by mobile outlook, and when the reminder pops up, I just want to click and dial the number -- not select it, activate the dialer, then menu>paste and finally dial.
In my old blackberry, all I had to do was enter, 'tel:555-1212' and it would automatically convert it to a link -- click on it and the number was automatically dialed.
Is there an equivalent in WM5?
Also, I noticed that I can't just send ANOTHER text msg to someone in my sent box -- reply sends a message back to ME. Forward has me enter the previous number again. Am I missing something?
Interesting, a friend of mine and myself are also interested in this feature !

Tried it. Doesn't work on my phone. Is it supposed to?
Did you add a space or line feed/return after the telephone number? Mine doesn't create a link until one of those is entered.
That works, thou I thought about something else.
I'm using Pocketbreeze and what would be great would be to be able to call persons you added in the list of persons included "add person..."
like to be able to choose from a list when the notification appears.
Guess that's not possible atm
I think that that has been requested over at SBSH's forums but I don't remember if it was a planned addition or not. However, if Amit responded like he usually does, he will probably add it at some point if he can.
As far as PB, if you have PB set to show the note icon next to appts or tasks, you can tap on the note icon and it will open the preview window. Tap on the link and it will dial as well. No opening your PIM needed.
One other thing, you can also create a direct link to email as in the example below:
MailTo:[email protected]

Contacts Default Display "txt" or "m"

Most of my contacts have "m" at the end of number so when I press the send button they call that person right away but those with "txt" wont dial right away but will revert you to the call history page.
I want them to default with "m" always. Any idea on how to do this?
the m means the number is saved as a mobile number, not sure about txt but try changing those numbers, there is also a setting to choose what type of number is dialed by default, this is probably set to mobile
all the numbers I have tested with have numbers in the mobile field inputed the correct way.
I think I answered my own question again by accident.
While viewing your contacts, when you press left or right on the DPAD it will change it from"m" to "txt" and somehow it retains the last option you chose so if you left it at "txt" the next you look back it will be at "txt" still.
Can you guys confirm this?

sms to other cell-number?

salut!
suppose i have a friend with two cellular phones, with two mobile numbers accordingly.
therefore i use "cellular" and "car" slots to write them both to my lookout contacts.
one day my friend has obviously one phone switched off, so i must send sms to another number, specified as "car".
how can i send sms to second mobile number?
i tried every slot: fax, car, work, home - none of them are supposed by HTC to be used for sms addressing

I looked at this on my phone if I start a new sms
I select the to
this will pop the address book up when i select the name it shows all numbers available
I can select any number
What steps are you trying
1)press "pick up phone" hardbutton by finger
2)press sequence of letters on the screen buttons until contact is found
3)press "menu" on the screen
4)select "send text message" item
htc opens an sms screen with cell-number already inserted
so it looks like i must add a recipient (same person with other number) and erase first one?
damn htc and md...
anyways, thank you. that solves the problem however.
though it looks like gates either hates mobile users, or doesn't have any idea how to use phones.
thank you very much!
your welcome.......it is a little inconvenient lucky most people only have one Mobile LOL

People tab

I have tried to find if this has been answered elsewhere so I apologise if I have missed it.
Got my HD2 this morning and the first thing I did was update the firmware to 1.48.
Synced with Outlook and it has my contacts. Tried to put my wife on the People tab as a favourite. My previous phone would have stored her and I would have had to select her work or mobile number after selecting her picture on the tab. However, I see I have to choose which number when I add her as a favourite. That's OK - so I select her mobile number. I then try and add her again with her work number as a separate favourite but that deletes her first entry. It looks like you can only have one favourite per contact even if they have more than one number. Surely that can't be right? I don't want to have to create separate contacts for every number for my favourite people!
Have I missed something?
TIA

Choose which number you're most likely to call - once the contact is added as a favourite, if you tap the name (as opposed to the picture) it will bring an "action" screen listing call mobile, call work, call home, send message, send email etc depending on what info is available for that contact
Thanks for the help, Isadora. That's good as it means I can have more favourite people. The only disappointent is that it is a little more difficult to hit the name instead of the picture if you're walking fast or something like that. But thanks again anyway.

If you add "View Contact Card" then the default action for that contact is to bring up the action list where you can call them, text them, email them etc..
It's a bit more like the original people style that was exhibited in TouchFlo.

When you select which contact you wish to add to the grid on People tab a seperate window will be displayed ^ the phone numbers & the option to add contact card will be there. Good luck!
Great! That's just what I needed. Now why can't a 310 page userguide tell you that?
Thanks

The 3 things I dislike on my SGS2 coming from 3 Years of HTC

Sorry for this rant but I am finding it more difficult to live with these Issues everyday..
1. The call history list all calls (dialed, missed, received) and Messages as well! this is annoying, I dont want to see my message history in my call log, and there is no way to hide it except to view by just one call category, Dialed, missed or received.
2. Dialing a contact by name from the phone key pad, I can only search by the First name and not by second name, On my htc Desire/HD I could very well search by any of the names listed for a contact but unable to do so on this phone, this is really annoying as well.
3. Pull down notification bar would not work in the middle of a call unless I go to the home screen.. not cool.
If anyone knows a work around or other roms that addresses these issue please feel free to recommend.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for this , definitely prefer this to stock dailer ...
Try "Dialer One" from the market, it works very similar to the htc desire. And is very customable.
