again problems with my tytn... its an hermes 300, with faria/puttingham rom on it, so far more than 2-3 months...
everything worked fine till 2-3 hrs ago... suddenly all got blocked, tried soft reset everything was soo slow and blocked, i couldnt even type my SIM PIN on start... so i softreseted like 4-5 times, and now i have 2 more problems..
i had RemotePRotect installed on it, and what's worse i forgot my password... and i already shot twice with wrong password so i have another chance..
if i miss it for 3rd time ppc will automatically hard reset itself...
now the problem is i dont want ppc to hard reset itself, cos i will loose all contacts and all data i have...
so, im asking and begging u for some solution what to do... remoteprotect is installed in internal storage, is it possible if i delete the folder from ppc there will be no password screen on start?
how to copy all contacts from ppc to computer? i have no outlook on pc and cant sync contacts with activesync..
if i have to hard reset at least id wish to get all my contacts intact...
any help plz?

in \windows\StartUp there r 2 files, checkphone and lock, which are used by remoteprotect.. i can delete them cos they r being used as soon i start ppc... is there anyway to hard remove that 2 files via activesync while ppc is running? i think that remoteprotect cant start if that 2 files r missing..

Sorry mate, I don't believe you're gonna get around it. You might find it will automatically wipe or even brick your hermes if you delete anything. You need to use a backup program (pim backup is free and backs up your contacts) but you need the phone working first.
Hope you can get the contacts back easily ( they may b e stored on your SIM?) because I don't think you're gonna get them back unless you remember your password...

anyway, figured out that u can type down 2 times password but than u restart ppc and go again...
anyway, installed M$ Outlook unfortunately cpl of mins ago so i backed up all contacts...
yes i use PIM backup but last time i did a backup was one week ago, and since than i added many new contacts..
ah damnit... PPC stolen by its own proprietary

hope remoteprotect doesnt popup now after reinstallation, that would be a total insanity

I need some intervention! Please give me some insight on this. I have ActiveSync on my home computer done with no problem and hoped to sync my MDA to my work computer as well.
So before I tried my work computer I had at least 6 MB of mem left. I syncing my to my work computer, sync only appointments and tasks (which aren't many) and then my memory is low! :shock:
I went from 6 MB to .66 MB! What the hell is going on!? Are their program hidden files that sync into my MDA from ActiveSync I'm not aware of?
I can't find these files that have taken up almost all my memory. I've checked temp folders and the like. Nothing. After all my hard work in tweaking, I'm not trying to hard reset. Somebody, anybody! PLEASE!
Any ideas? PLEASE?!
check the size of teh files you sync'ed it sounds they may be larger than you think. I had a similar issue and had to remove some notes and such to reslove it.

Ok, so say I got exchange 2k3 and my Universal in sync (calendar, contacts, etc).
I hardreset the Universal, then I resync: would active sync 'interpret' the disapearance of the items on the PDA as a 'deletion', and then try to wipe out the data on my exchange box as well?

Not really.
After you have hard reset your unit, your unit will not be recognised by the activesync that you need to create the relationship again. And upon creating the new relationship, you will be asked if you want to replace, combined the stuff from outlook. Just use combine will do. I did a few time with activesynch, doesn't seems to be deleting stuff. Should be the same with exchange?

Hi I hope someone can help me. I just got my Wizard and I love it.
I managed to install several programs until a few days ago.
Now I can't install anything. When I go into the Add/Remove programs the list is empty (and yet I still have the programs I installed) so I can't remove anything.
Suddenly ActiveSync doesn't sync (but I can Explore the device from by desktop PC)
I can't change the Themes.
I am ready to "hard-reset" but am not sure if that is really the solution. Everything worked a couple of days ago and I can't figure out what went wrong.
The only different is that I added a mini-SD card, this is a 2GB noname which only works to read not to write.
Has anyone seen anything like this with WM5?

I have the same problem on my Cingular 8125 in that the remove programs list is blank and I can not establish a sync partnership, it only connects as Guest.
I haven't found a solution and am ready to hard reset the device, but I'd like to know what caused this and if there is a solution.
Same thing just happened to me on my new 8525. I guess I'll do a hard reset

try to install the newest version of active sync...some roms need to have it to connect...have you tried to remove those programs using utility in your phone in settings??
i have my cingular 8125 for about 4 months now, one day i set a password... i guess the password was SO safe that now i cant even access my phone anymore.... what can i do ? i need my phone please somebody help ME !!!

You didn't exactly say it , but I am assuming that you have forgotten your password.
I'm not an expert in PPC security but I think you will need to do a hard reset , unless you can find a program that can access the ppc from a computer without needing your pw and adds a program to your startup menu that removes the option for password protection. I doubt that such software exists, but hey, you never know. Search around on yahoo about ppc passwords and security. I beleive Microsoft even once provided a program for unlocking passwords on Windows 98 computers.

The fix around Windows 9x passwords were even simplier than that, you could simply delete them...... but unfortunately Windows Mobile has moved on since then.
Unless you have security software built into the ROM like the anti-theft software available, a hard reset will clear the password.
I, like most, won't explaining ways around passwords on a forumn like this, as you may not have stolen the device... but there may be other people out there looking for ways into theirs that haven't come across them innocently...
In future I suggest you do often syncs with a PC to back up contacts/calender etc, and save your important data to memory card, that way if you do need to reset you won't lose much.

ok and how do i do a master reset on my phone... because it doesnt want to acces anything ... it goes straight to the password screen ..... excuse my english i'm spanish !!
i dont really care about losing my contacts/messages etc... i just want to be able of use my phone again how do i do a Hard Reset ? remember my phone goes straight to the password screen
just press the voice button and the comm button at the same time while doing a "soft" reset.
keep both buttons pushed till you get the question if you want to reset the whole thing. you must confirm this by pussing the dial button.

I am ready to throw my phone against the wall!
All of a sudden about 2 days ago my phone began to run extremely slow. I cant even describe how slow it was. If I tried to send a 8 word text and after the 4th letter or so it would simply stop recognizing keyboard input. Its acting like its low on ram but I have plenty of memory. If I let it sit, turned on, for a 10 mins or so it might finally show the text so I could then send it. Also, the internet stopped working and it wouldnt connect to my email server (hotmail). I did a hard reset, soft reset and nothing worked. Its acting like it has a virus or something.
Cut to today, I thought I could just reflash it with Black Satin Medium and it would fix everything. It always seemed like a good program and I never had any problems before so I thought I could just reinstall it. It was fine for about an hour and now its moving slow again. I dont know if it could have been one of the .cabs I installed but they are the same cabs I had on my phone for months before it flipped out 2 days ago.
So please help! I use my phone for everything and right now it is unusable!
Once I get that part figured out I need help to figure out how I can get my contacts back onto my 8525. I have flashed my phone before but they always appeared right back onto my phone when I was done. It was effortless. And now I cant figure out how to get my contacts back. On Activesync, when I go to Tools, Options, then try to select Contacts as an item to sync I get a message that says "Activesync cannot synchronize Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes, because outlook is not installed on Windows PC. To Sync Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes do the following: Disconnect the device, Install and run outlook, and then reconnect the device and try again."
But I have outlook on my PC and 8525. I never use either of them but they are there.
Lastly, and this is another big annoyance, any time I connect my 8525 to my laptop the clock on my phone jumps ahead 3 hours exactly. The time on my computer is the current time and so is the time on my phone. but everytime it jumps forward.

Hi Jim,
1. Hermes is a good device - don't do that with some patience everything will be fine.
2. In such a situation I will go to a major upgrade. Flash new radio e.g. 1.54, and maybe try some of new ROMs - Schap'a or Shamanix
- dont rush to install any cabs first, just see how the device performs for some time. Try syncing with your pc to see can you get the contacts on the devide
- it could be that some of the cabs got corrupted. maybe make sense to download them anew.
- start installing the cabs one by one, with significant time and usage between the installations - you can figure out which one is causing the problem
3. before start syncing for first time, just delete all mobile devices on PC activesync -- >File>Delete Mobile Device
4. Check your regional and clock settings
Have you installed any other software from your PC? I use to have similar problems with early versions of WM6 after installing CE-Star (Asian languages support)
Let me konw how the device performs

PS. It is recomended after fresh flash of ROM to hardreset the device imediatley and only then start installations od applications
I just installed Schap's WM6 Pro 4.20 ROM and its running much better. It looks to be a great program. I wish the clock wasnt so huge but it all seems to run great.
I still cant get my contacts to sync though. When I put my device name in there and connect using activesync it keeps changing the device name to WM_Owner.
Im playing with it. Any more suggestions could be helpful.
The regional settings were off. So the clock is now good.

Glad to hear that the device start running better
re sync issue - did you delete all mobile devices on Microsoft ActiveSync? after that you should be able to establishe a new partnership between the PC and PPC - then everything must work fine
But if i delete all of my mobile devices it will erase my saved info then my contacts will be lost for ever wont they?

You dont delete any info on your PC, only the partnership between PC and Pocket PC. This will not affect your contacts. After that should establish a new partnership - choosing all settings etc., and everything must be fine.
WARNING! Better first archive your contacts and then proceed.
I deleted one of the two relationships, WM_Owner, and it deleted the folder on my pc with all the info in it. I haven't deleted the WM_James_Klafe2 relationship yet because that's the one that should have all my contact info it it. that was the name of my phone before I installed schap's 4.2
I have it backed up, should I just delete it and see what happens when I reconnect it? should I name my 8525 WM_James_Klafe2 again?
I hate creating more clutter but I started a new thread that specially relates to this problem.

Hi Jimbo69ny,
Personally I test almost every new rom for Hermes, and every time there is a new rom on my device I do three things:
1. name the phone - e.g. WM_James_Klafe2
2. delete partnerships on the PC - do not do any backup etc.
3. establishing new partnership between the pc and ppc
thats all!
All my contacts are synced with no problem, including notes, and other stuff defined for synchronization. in fact your contacts are stored in outlook, and deleteing the partnership do not affects them at all

Damn it Ive been having one problem after another with my 8525 just when I think things are going good there is another set back.
My phone wont sync to my computer anymore. I have Schaps 4.20 installed and I installed the cube earlier today just to see what it was like because I was going to upgrade to shaps 4.3. I really liked it but I its more than I need. Now its time to upgrade and when I connect my phone to my pc i get a message that says "usb device not recognized"
What the heck is going on?
I uninstalled the cube from my ppc did 2 soft resets, restarted my computer and it still wont recognize my pcc
After two hard resets I finally got it to accept Shaps 4.3 rom. It still wouldnt do it after the 1st and 2nd hard reset but for some reason, the last time I connected it via usb, it worked.
THANK GOD! I dont know what happened and why it wouldnt connect but Im happy I fixed.
Still no contacts though

to best of my knowledge the contacts are stored in outlook. if do not have outlook on your pc i cant say what activesync will sync - my assumption is that you have, as you was able to sync some time ago, dont you?
(on my secnd pc i have outlook express and it syncs too with no problems)
which Cube you have installed? I never had such kind of problems with any cube.
the problem "usb device not recognized" happens from time to time - no idea about the exact reason. sometime it is enough to disconnect the device and connect it again, in few cases i needed to restart the computer - and then it worked with no problems. never did hardreste.
I am confused that you still cannot get your contacts synced. i guess you followed the steps i gave you previously
let me know how you forward
btw, try focussing on one issue only - get first your contacts synced
