[IDEA] Is it possible to add this to TF3D? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

I have a lots of programs installed. However when I go into All programs menu in TF3D it is somewhat annoying to flick through all of them.
Is it possible to add that Alphabet strip that you can find in contacts or in Weather-Countries menu. It would ease things extremely. They added it in Weather-Countries after software update, so I guess it is possible.
Dr Twin

Very nice idea...

Excellent idea - although I still resort to the old wm start->programs if I don't have an app on my quick list

Well, I do too. But I would like TF3D to be able to display all programs that are as quickly accessible as possible. It seems that Alphabet strip (or ribbon - I do not know the proper term) is elegant solution.

Hard to imagine why it isn't there by default.

Not only that, I can consistenly crash my diamond if i scroll the TF3D "all programs" list too fast 3 times in a row... (using the official 1.93 firmware)

I believe that it is all about layout and that it can be edited and added to All programs menu

good idea would be a search field where you can type in like in e.g. ubuntu
where -while typing- the fitting startmenu entries are suggested...
if nothing is typed in: whole startmenu (all programms) should be shown

Quick way to settings on Today screen

Hi. I'm using cLauncher and I'm wondering if there was a way to get things like phone settings, display settings as an icon setting on the Today screen. Going through menus is a bit slow for frequently used functions. Thanks.
There is a thread somewhere around here that deals with making shortcuts for items on your phones "control panel" I wish I could find it, but it's going to be a bit of a ***** to do so probably. If I do find it, I will let you know.

This might help.
You can use this cab to create a link to the today settings and then add it to cLaunch. It creates a link to start>settings>personal>today.
In order to link to things such as the backlight control enter \Windows\Backlight.lnk (note lnk is LNK in lower case) into the 'File Path' field within the cLaunch settings. You can also add custom icons as well - search google for suitable 32x32 icons and then convert them to bitmaps. They work a treat.
To find out other useful info about shortcuts check the following posts by vijay555: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=507575
This link does not appear to be working - use advanced search using the word 'completeness' and the user id vijay555 which will return the required links.
They are very useful and informative. Vijay555 is also a fan of cLaunch from what I gather.
cLaunch is a great piece of freeware! I'd recommend it to anyone!

Items on the Today Screen size

Can I make the size of the items on the today screen (i.e. messages, device lock) any bigger? I use my Wizzard as my phone and don't use the stylus for texts and calls, and I've got big fat thumbs
Any help would be much appreciated!
you can't change the defaults one. you may try your luck on using larger fonts, but most Today stuff don't respond to fonts settings.
Anyway, for thumb usage, you can try using cLaunch (available in this forum, with tutorials) to launch applications. The max size is around 32x32, good enough for most people. However, it is an app launcher, hence you may still need those plugins for display purposes. It doesn't come with a lock function, but there are fellow members whom had it launch some of the lockers developed here.
thanks for that. I get the general idea of what you suggest, but I'm new to PPCs. I'll get reading!!
You can also try mapping your most used applications to your hardkeys by going to settings --> personal --> buttons.
Text messaging already has it own, and you can search the wizard forum for an applicatin called DeviceLock which allows you to assign locking your device to a hardware button.
For the dialer, you may want to look at ETen Dialer's Smart Dial --> it makes the buttons on the phone app a lot bigger so thumbs can be used. You can do a google search and it should come up quite easily.
Hope that helps!
or you can try to find a different theme that has larger text and icons.
I too, have big thumbs and find it frustrating to try to tap tiny icons.
My solution is to use plugins that can be scrolled and selected using the Dpad this also keeps the screen free of fingerprints.
My current favourites for one thumb operation are
Smartskey for press&hold softkeys for startmenu and close programs.
TodayAgenda v0.9.50 for tasks, appointments and clock/alarm settings.
PHM Traylaunch and Batterystatus for specific shortcuts in the tray.

[REQ] Hierarchical "All Programs" solution

Hi all!
I just installed the AT&T leaked test ROM + XboxMod Rhodium. I like the fact that the "Programs" TF3D tab is gone and instead pressing the Windows Start will bring me to my favorite apps.
However, the "All Programs" soft-button still flattens the contents of //Windows/Start Menu . There are many apps there to begin with and I'll have a crapload more installed soon - I don't want to flick through a long, flat list to run what I want. Frankly, I find it rather annoying to do that every time. I will be adding my most frequently used apps/games/utils to the favorites, but that has limited space.
So, here are my ideas for improvements (I wish I could hack it together myself, but I have neither the time, nor the in-depth knowledge):
1) The "All Programs" list should have an alphabetical vertical scroll, similar to the new "All People" list: touch a letter to go to the apps starting with that letter.
2) Make the "All Programs" list follow the folder hierarchy of //Windows/Start Menu with sub-lists. I can then re-arrange //Windows/Start Menu to my liking and it'd be instantly reflected in "All Programs".
3) Add the capability to add shortcuts to folders on the favorite apps button panel itself. Right now it allows me to add apps only from the "All Programs" list.
The above solutions are not mutually exclusive.
Basically, I am looking for a more organized, finger-friendly way to launch programs.
PS: Yes, I have used QuickMenu before, which I found to be a very good solution, unfortunately, it's not very finger-friendly and it doesn't fit into the TF3D2 theme and user experience at all.
This would be a fantastic enhancement to the Rhodium TF3D experience.
My additional/alternative requests would be more simple & straight-forward:
- Identify the exe for the WinMo Start screen, and create a .lnk to it and add it to programs folder, allowing me to set one of my favorites in Rhodium Start screen to be a link to the traditional WinMo Start Menu experience.
- In the All Programs TF3D screen, add a right soft-key to launch the traditional WinMo Start experience

Good news: someone already did point 2 and 3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442341)
Bad news: it does not work on new devices with VGA and WVGA display.

[REQ] HTC Taskmanager improvement

Hi There,
If you ever used the "Close Button" plug-in from Spb Mobile Plus you prolly know what I mean...
The HTC Taskmanager looks all nice, I like it, but its only accessible on the Today Screen. Is there a way to make it accessible even when you're not on the today screen?
Sometimes when you're doing stuff you want to "alt-tab" to another program and this is an easy way to do it, or when you want to close another/all other programs.
I hope there's a solution because it really is an improvement to the taskmanager.
me too
sorry, no help here. I can only say "me too". I was actually just thinking about this today. I've had this phone for a few months, and it just today occurred to mr today that you can't close other open programs without going back to the today screen, only option is to "x" button back to today screen or hope that what you seek to close is in your start menu under 'recent items'.
any help or development would be super appreciated, thanks all.
There is a shortcut in the Settings folder in the Systems tab. However, I expect you don't want to go through all of that when you want to use it. As an alternative, you could use file explorer and go into the Windows folder, find the Task Manager program in there, copy it and past a shortcut in the Windows/Start Menu folder. Then it would be on your Start Menu. You would need to remove one other item if you were then over the allowed maximum number of items in there.
Is that accessible enough?
I'd rather not put it in my start menu cus there are other "important" shortcuts in there...
I'd rather have it in the upper right corner...
You could use WkTask
the best free taskmanager there is (not working on wm6.5)

I tried it and I like it, Is there a way to make a backup of my settings?
It seems the program doesnt work as i wished it would. I worked with it for a while and I like the concept alot, but there's a major flaw. Sometimes when I make adjustments to, lets say, my alarm settings (winmo clock/alarms setings), and when I press [ok] the window minimizes (I set the one click to minimize), there's no way you can apply the changes because it will keep on running on the background. If I choose to close it then the changes wont apply. This occurs to many other programs I use in simular occasions when you need to press [ok] to apply settings.
I would still have a solution to the HTC taskbar though. I think I would prefer it over the WkTask taskmanager.

Any Chance for the Old Start Menu?

Hi,
I just installed the official 6.5 update but I think the WM 6.5 "Honeycomb" start menu is that damn slow when you got a lot of programs there. You have to scroll a lot and scrolling doesn't look very fluid.
Is there a way or a registry hack to get back the old HTC start menu that was delivered when the Diamond2 originally came out? The best would be if there where 4 icons in a row.
I've added a snapshot to show what I mean. Yes, as you can see on the snapshot I'm back to 6.1
My startmenu is very fluid to be honest, I got my programs and stuff sorted in folders. Like games, media (coreplayer etc), network (commanager etc), personal (phone, sms, email etc), GPS, system (total commander, resco explorer, reg edit etc). I will install SPB Screenshot and show you how it looks.
Here you go.

Its still there under the programs tab... ? or at least it is on mine...
sorry if this is a noob question, but how do i add folders to the start menu like you've done? and change icons?
I have done the same thing that you have done, Created folders in the start menu, to do this you just go to windows/startmenu and create folders in there.
However every time I soft reset my device, extra icons appear on the main start page screen. Is there any way to remove these?
I would love to go back to the HTC Start Menu as it was so much better, I know it is on a Tab on Touch Flow 3D but it defeats the point in having a hardware button to launch programs!

I totally agree. The current Startmenu lack the support for hiding items en ordering them. Love to find a solution.
I do not have any issues restructuring my start menu.
The only icons I keep on the main page are Phone and Reset, everything else is in a sub-folder and does not add icons to the main page.

True, but the TouchFlo "Programs" was much easier.
So am I the only one who's missing the drop-down menu when you tap the Start button - you know, the one that lists seven favourites and your four or five most recent programs?
Why should I navigate the Honeycomb every time I want to go to a program I use about 30 times a day?
Any fixes/hacks to bring this back? Or am I being really stupid and there's a simple option that I haven't found yet?

You can do this with Topaz Keyboard Controller: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555821
Map the Start button to run the program "\Windows\manila.exe" with arguments "--switchtopage programs.page", and it should work perfectly - does for me.
