Hi,
I just installed the official 6.5 update but I think the WM 6.5 "Honeycomb" start menu is that damn slow when you got a lot of programs there. You have to scroll a lot and scrolling doesn't look very fluid.
Is there a way or a registry hack to get back the old HTC start menu that was delivered when the Diamond2 originally came out? The best would be if there where 4 icons in a row.
I've added a snapshot to show what I mean. Yes, as you can see on the snapshot I'm back to 6.1
My startmenu is very fluid to be honest, I got my programs and stuff sorted in folders. Like games, media (coreplayer etc), network (commanager etc), personal (phone, sms, email etc), GPS, system (total commander, resco explorer, reg edit etc). I will install SPB Screenshot and show you how it looks.
Here you go.

Its still there under the programs tab... ? or at least it is on mine...
sorry if this is a noob question, but how do i add folders to the start menu like you've done? and change icons?
I have done the same thing that you have done, Created folders in the start menu, to do this you just go to windows/startmenu and create folders in there.
However every time I soft reset my device, extra icons appear on the main start page screen. Is there any way to remove these?
I would love to go back to the HTC Start Menu as it was so much better, I know it is on a Tab on Touch Flow 3D but it defeats the point in having a hardware button to launch programs!

I totally agree. The current Startmenu lack the support for hiding items en ordering them. Love to find a solution.
I do not have any issues restructuring my start menu.
The only icons I keep on the main page are Phone and Reset, everything else is in a sub-folder and does not add icons to the main page.

True, but the TouchFlo "Programs" was much easier.
So am I the only one who's missing the drop-down menu when you tap the Start button - you know, the one that lists seven favourites and your four or five most recent programs?
Why should I navigate the Honeycomb every time I want to go to a program I use about 30 times a day?
Any fixes/hacks to bring this back? Or am I being really stupid and there's a simple option that I haven't found yet?

You can do this with Topaz Keyboard Controller: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555821
Map the Start button to run the program "\Windows\manila.exe" with arguments "--switchtopage programs.page", and it should work perfectly - does for me.

I use SPB Mobile Shell and I would like to make it so "SPB Menu" comes up when I press the Start button on the top left hand corner.
Is there a way to do this?
I dont think this is possible, but why would you want to do that, a pop up menu is great in my opinion.
I recommend you to assign the spb menu to one of your hardware keys, like the camera key or something like that,
cu
It is possible - for example QuickMenu can replace the start menu with itself. HTC EnlargeStart Menu does the same. Maybe it needs some kind of registry hack.

I LOVE the SPB Menu and since I use my fingers 99% of the time on my Touch I don't really have a use for the built in Start menu.
I know there has to be a way to do this, I just hope it is a easy one.
I looked through my registry a bit but I didn't see anything that would change this.
It has to be possible.
Is there a way to do a registry dump, perform the HTC Start Menu Tweak and then perform another dump and somehow compare them to see what has changed?
With Wisbar Advance 3 you can map the start button to anything you want.
I installed Wisbar Advance Desktop to play around with when I first got my Touch. I uninstalled it because I didn't like the functionality. After the uninstall I still have Wisbar icons showing up in some of my menu's. There is no way I am going to install one of their bloated products just to do one simple function.
Hi, i am looking for the same Startbutton tweak.
I want to remove the Startbutton AND the word "Start" right to the button.
Wisbar Lite Taskmanager does remove the word "Start".
I'd like to know how this works, and somehow it must be possible to remove or reassign the Startbutton without installing WAD or WA3, a megapackage for only one function.
If someone has the skills to do this and/or write a simple program to make this happen I wouldn't mind compensating them. Either in $$ or Webhosting!
Nothing is being removed in most of these cases, the start button and or title bar is being covered up.

I don't want anything removed, I just want to change the link on the Start menu to point to something else.
bump it up!
I compared the registry with the large menu on and off and this is all I found. Not much help (for me anyway).
BIG START MENU
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu]
"DropDown"=dword:00000000
"Enable"=dword:00000001
LITTLE START MENU
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu]
"Enable"=dword:00000000
"DropDown"=dword:00000000

He says that it's not a registry tweak... maybe those programs relocate the title bar and put themselves in that positions looking similar with different functions... That is the way that evb used to work fullscreen (relocating the title bar, sip and taskbar)...
I finally gave in and reinstalled Wisbar Advance. I would rather accomplish this without using Wisbar but for now it will work.
Hi There,
If you ever used the "Close Button" plug-in from Spb Mobile Plus you prolly know what I mean...
The HTC Taskmanager looks all nice, I like it, but its only accessible on the Today Screen. Is there a way to make it accessible even when you're not on the today screen?
Sometimes when you're doing stuff you want to "alt-tab" to another program and this is an easy way to do it, or when you want to close another/all other programs.
I hope there's a solution because it really is an improvement to the taskmanager.
me too
sorry, no help here. I can only say "me too". I was actually just thinking about this today. I've had this phone for a few months, and it just today occurred to mr today that you can't close other open programs without going back to the today screen, only option is to "x" button back to today screen or hope that what you seek to close is in your start menu under 'recent items'.
any help or development would be super appreciated, thanks all.
There is a shortcut in the Settings folder in the Systems tab. However, I expect you don't want to go through all of that when you want to use it. As an alternative, you could use file explorer and go into the Windows folder, find the Task Manager program in there, copy it and past a shortcut in the Windows/Start Menu folder. Then it would be on your Start Menu. You would need to remove one other item if you were then over the allowed maximum number of items in there.
Is that accessible enough?
I'd rather not put it in my start menu cus there are other "important" shortcuts in there...
I'd rather have it in the upper right corner...
You could use WkTask
the best free taskmanager there is (not working on wm6.5)

I tried it and I like it, Is there a way to make a backup of my settings?
It seems the program doesnt work as i wished it would. I worked with it for a while and I like the concept alot, but there's a major flaw. Sometimes when I make adjustments to, lets say, my alarm settings (winmo clock/alarms setings), and when I press [ok] the window minimizes (I set the one click to minimize), there's no way you can apply the changes because it will keep on running on the background. If I choose to close it then the changes wont apply. This occurs to many other programs I use in simular occasions when you need to press [ok] to apply settings.
I would still have a solution to the HTC taskbar though. I think I would prefer it over the WkTask taskmanager.
I dont get HTC. on the windows 6.1 version first we had a programs tab, then the home tab so we could NEATLY add icons. All of a sudden in 6.5 on their Sense 2.5 GUI we only get NINE MASSIVE ICONS which isnt enough (think how big they must be on LEO!!!), and we have the start menu loading up all the icons in a very messy way (I keep searching around for my software).
So can someone figure out how to get 4x4 or 5x5 icons???
Please??
id like to know as well
you can go to windows>start menu>programs and organise the start menu to your liking. i hear ya on the icons though. stupid move. the programs tab with 30 icons was the best. that's the main reason i stick with 2.1 builds. and i apply the 50 icon hack as well.

OK, I know I should search, but can you/someone please point me to "the 50 icon hack"?
BTW: I completely agree about this defficiency of the 2.5 vs 2.1 TF3D. 30 (or 50!) is better than 9.
is this "50 program hack" for the programs tab or the start menu because im trying to find a way to put more items on the new manila start menu

I think he's referring to the Programs tab in TF3D2.1...which is what I'm interested in. But if I could add more icons to the new Home-Screen icon array I might like it...
Hi
Map any button in the Manila 2.5 Home tab quick links to third party launcher like WKTask launcher or my action and you are done
all credit goes to smaberg for this
Touch X Xtended StartMenu -add shortcuts to startmenu, now 50 shortcuts, original is 30. (you must add the name and shortcut in regestry to get the last 20 to work, im working on a program for that) Touch_X_XTended_Start_Menu.cab
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=202860&d=1247055672
it says start menu, but it adds 50 icons total to the programs tab in touchflo. not sure about the standard windows start menu.

Tried it -- works great!
I tried to do this myself manually a few days ago...or maybe I was trying to add more icon-links to the TF3D2.5 Home screen...whichever -- I must have missed some reg-setting 'cause it didn't have any effect.
Thanks!

ok guys, im still confused...will this program add icons to the NEW start menu (not the program tab)...i have the "four columns" cab installed and it extended the start menu to 32 icons i believe but im interested in getting more icons for easy launching acess...will this program do that (on the start menu, not programs tab)...and if it wont, is there a way to add more...thanks again for the help
There's so many icons in the start menu that it's almost impossible to find things quickly, is there any way to delete icons or reorder them? I went through a file explorer to look at the start menu folder and everything is organized nicely into folders, but when I go to the start menu on my phone everything is just thrown together.
I completely agree. The new start menu's in 6.5 are terrible. Everything is all over the place at least Windows 6.1 sorted it into alphabetical order. Can't believe you can't customise it apart from moving things from the top to the bottom and vise-versa. I'm thinking over going back to 6.1 just for this reason alone. Unless I'm missing something
yeh I just got spb mobile shell 3.5 running on 6.1 and it's great that you can override the start menu... a few have it running on 6.5.

Unfortunately only method is to press and hold on each icon and move it to top or bottom of start menu which is a major oversite by Microsoft and a pain in the a**e!
I do however believe there was a thread or solution to this by modifying a certain path in the registry. I'll see if I can re-find it and post it later
This is a bit long-winded, but it really does help.
Open file explorer and go to...
\\My Device\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
In there, create category folders, like "Internet", "Utilities", "Media" etc..
Then, cut and paste the shortcuts into those folders.
It ain't perfect, and it takes a while, but once it's done, it really does make a big difference to that pile of poo they call a start menu.
Because of the fluster cuck of a menu, I decided to just go with wisbar's cascading and expanding start menu...What I really like about it as well is that it gives me a battery bar at the top, so I never have to guess what % I'm at...
I know that Energy ROM organize the StartMenu very well.
Hi,
I've just purchased a HTC Leo, and i've some questions because some features of my old HTC Diamond 2 aren't here anymore... And i want them back
First of all, i want the little arrow in the up right corner of the screen, that allow to see open applications and close them. How to get it back?
Then, i noticed that the SMS manager is now a custom HTC menu, and i want the old SMS "outlook" back. How to do?
I want be able to access to the Windows setings old menu too, not the HTC one.
Is there any registry tweak or application for change these features?
Please help me, because i am dissapointed and about to sell my Leo and use again my Diamond 2...

From HTC settings tab, right softkey 'Menu' -> 'All Settings'.

You can go to Start->OutLook->Calendar (This is the regular windows calendar)
Or - with htc-sense - you can add a shortcut to the "Today" page (Where the clock is) by tapping an empty link place, and selecting the calendar from the list of suggested programs.
