Auto Bluetooth On/Off when connecting to USB charger - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Above says it all really.
I could live with bluetooth on even when syncing with PC.
My situation:
I am in and out of my car all day. I can't stand to wear earpiece so have bluetooth speaker/mic in car.
When I get out of car I have to turn bluetooth off as I am still in range when I knock on customer's door. I know I should just turn it off as I leave the car and back on when I return, but it's a real pain. I religiously put my phone on charge when in the car because of the poor battery life, so my request would certainly be fantastic for me.
I believe Phonealarm offers this, but from memory it was not very reliable. Also, as I have just installed my first rom from this forum, I want to try and keep things as 'lite' as possible. I don't need a whole software package.
Is this an easy thing to create?

It's quite easy with skschema. It worth a try

Thank you for the info.
I'll give it a try tomorrow

Okay I have looked at skschema, and to be honest I don't know what I am doing.
I don't want to end up having to press anything. I just want plug in USB - bluetooth on, USB unplug - bluetooth off. I can tell you that phonealarm have this facility, but it just does not work [and you need to disable touchflo] so I'm rather glad it doesn't work
If it is really easy is there anyone out there that can do it for me. I will pay them for the cost of skschema. I believe there are 2 versions but basically $11.
Obviously it needs to work properly. Details below may help.

ok, I know this is an old thread, but I have exactly the same probs!
It would be awesome if everytime I charge my phone the bluetooth connection enables and if i stop charging the bt will disable!
Anybody knows what to do without one more tool running in background?
Any possibility doing it with the registry????

BluePower IS very good. I never thought of this and so assigned a softkey on my homepage to switching Bluetooth on/off. What a waste of a softkey. Thanks JasonKruys...
You will need to soft reset after installing it (well, I did). Once I can be sure it works very well, I will also disable the HTC phonepad (to save valuable storage space and to enable my phone to ring quicker when called). The reason for having it in the first place was to enable the bluetooth icon in the taskbar. This icon doesn't work when using the Windows dialer skin......

Modifying the flight mode facility

I currently use a QTEK s110 mainly for sat nav purposes. i dont use it as a phone at all. i am using tom tom5 with a globalsat bt-338 bluetooth reciever. with the bluetooth running it runs the pda battery down in about 2-3 hours if i forgot to lift the car charger from the other car. also it is a pin to start up as i have switch flight mode off and then wait fo rth phone to boot up before activating the tt software. so here are my questions.
is there anyway i can just get the tom tom to switch the flight mode off when i activate the tom tom software?
or is there anyway i can switch the pda off when not in flightmode rather than put it in standby as this just wastes the battery?
Can a shortcut button be created for the flight mode facility?
is there a fix for running the bluetooth with the flight mode on?
at present i have to switch off flight mode which becomes a pain when i have to switch it back on.
i have looked in to using the Globalsat sd-502 but it has compatibility issues.
i appreciate any help on this
Teb
"is there a fix for running the bluetooth with the flight mode on? "
tebs,
I know how you feel. This seems to be a problem with certain firmwares of the Qtec S110.
My manual states that holding down the power button turns the phone part off but not on my phone.
I'm currently testing Phone Alarm. It allows you to set up profiles. I've set one up which switches the radio (i.e. phone) off and bluetooth on. With it you don't have to go anywhere near flight mode. In fact, if you do, it'll get a bit confused. It's two presses on the today page to change modes. You can configure it to automatically put your phone pin in when switching the phone on. It's one press to toggle bluetooth on or off.
It takes some configuring but may do the job and its quite cheap (30 day trial)
Hi Borg,
i have also been using phone alarm for the last 3 weeks or so and its workin quite well. look as if i`ll have to purchase the software as my 30 day trial period is about to expire.
Yes, it's a pain that we have to buy software just to do what should be standard i.e. have bluetooth on without the phone on, but there you go. I contacted Qtek about this and they were pretty useless. Eventually I convinced them that it wasn't a faulty device but a faulty firmware and the only firmware that they offered me was the one I already had which is when I turned to PhoneAlarm.
Maybe one day HTC will put two physical switches on their devices to turn off phone and bluetooth - much better than software flight mode.
On a related note: I use sat nav whilst walking. I would like my bluetooth to actually turn off when I turn the device off so as to save PDA battery power. I'm sure the manual says it does turn off when you turn off the device but again it doesn't with my firmware - does yours?

I've been saying that for ages! But honestly I dont even need physical buttons. If they would at least make the communications module togging (ie flight mode plus other radio functions) accessible from an on screen area bigger than a pinhead, that would be enough for a start. Its impossible to do it one handed. I'd love to know who the bonehead is at MS product development that okayed such awful ergonomics on a critical funciton...
Borg, my one is the same i cannot switch it off with the bluetooth running. need to switch it off first before switching the pda off otherwise the screen goes blank for a second then comes back up again!
skagen i totally agree with your comments.
its a pity the globalsat sd-502 doesnt work with it either that way you`d save loads of power not using the bluetooth at all. unfortunately once again the qtek has let us done on that one too as it doesnt detect the memory card!
Try
1. radiooff.exe
2. Turn on Blutooth
3. Tomtom -> GPS -> Configure -> Other NMEA GPS (4800,COM5 )

radiooff.exe sounds interesting but I couldn't find it on my pocketPC. I looked in the windows directory and then I did a find. Is it a third party product?
Please ignore, I wasn't logged in when I read that message and so it didn't show me the download. Thanks

This also doesn't exist in my registry but the warningmsg part exists under OEM rather than HTC. But, if I add IsFMCheckEnable 0 it has no effect.
I think that this is probably a difference between the Qtek firmwares and the iMate firmwares. Qtek seem to have stuffed up in their current firmware.

Fantastic - thank you so much Krisu!
I have now uninstalled PhoneAlarm, done a soft reset and can now toggle the phone off and on using that app. If the bluetooth is currently running it leaves it running. No need to go near the flight mode button and should be able to assign it to one of the keys for fast turning off of the phone.
Thanks again!

LOL, yea I forgot to mention that my Qtek is running on an Imate ROM. That may be why...
moghisii101: No probs mate, I appreciate the info - if anything its shown me that the iMate rom flight mode is better implemented than the Qtek version.
tebs: check this thread out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39281
You will find a bluetooth cycle program there (CicleBT). It seems to work ok with radiooff.exe but can get a bit confused if you download (from there) and use FlightMode. So I would suggest that you use radiooff.exe and CicleBT. I've assigned them to buttons. Phone Profiler also seems to have problems with our dodgy firmware. Again this is not the program's fault but what Qtek have done with their firmare.
And cheers for your thread as you've helped me solve my problems!
Check out SKScheMa at www.s-k-tools.com as it can turn WiFi BT and GSM on and off from a scripting language or from its scheduler.
Cheers cjb
I use the bluesoleil BT stack, and I can use tomtom with the phone off!

I use NoviiRemote Deluxe 3.2 any way check your "beem"
I've used Novi Remote on mine but the IR is pretty feeble. You need to be quite close to the TV/VCR etc in order to operate it.
I must try it...
I tried this, the software works fine but the IR on the mini/JAM is so weak you need to be less than a metre from the device you are controlling, in which case you may as well just push the buttons on the device
Perhaps some bright spark could come up with a remote extender that you could sit your phone in?
I use noiiremote 3.1.05 on my Qtek S100(magician) and i have no problem! The strange thing is that some times i can use my ppc as a remote control from 2 meters and some other times from 5-6 meters.I think that there is a way to have permanent "strong beam" on my ppc but i don`t know how...
I also noticed that when i have weak beam and i uncheck the "Recieve all wireless sends" and then check it again, the beam goes to strong again...
Any ideas?
wow that is great news.....am considering getting one but it's pricey and considered a luxury app

If you guys have balls of steel, disassemble your device and check what kind of IR transmitter is in there. I am sure the electronic part market has other transmitters to offer, which are more powerful in the same size factor. Anyone experienced in electronics should be able to find out. And do the solder job if he is properly equipped. I remember to have read about someone who pimped his Wallaby doing this. Don't know about the Magician though. Maybe it is SMD part which makes soldering way more complicated.

I realy have no problem with the hardware of my magician`s ir but with the software, because it weakens the signal for some reason. Maybe to search for other ir recievers. Anyway, I am just fine with this "trick"!

TomTom sound off when starting

Hi there,
Is there someone using TomTom Navigator 6.03 and experiencing the same strange thing I do?
Everytime I start TomTom the sound is off; the sound off icon is on screen. I have to tap Turn on sound in the preferences menu twice in order to have the sound turned on and to have the icon disappeared.
When I exit TomTom and start it again, the sound is turned off again.
Annoying and no idea how to fix that. Deleting the navigator.cfg didn't help.
MapSettings.cfg in the current Active map folder - is it set to read only per chance? - Mike

Hi. I am having exactly the same issue here with TT. I've checked my mapsettings.cfg file and it's not read only...The only thing I can think of is it is because my map is installed on the microdrive, not an SD card
Any help appreciated too!
Merlin
Mapsettings.cfg is not read only and my maps (everything on TomTom) is installed on the Storage Card.
I have exactly the same installation running on my Touch as well, and no problems at all. Seems to be something on my X7500 then.... but what!!???
I am having exactly the same problems, it's been driving me potty! TT is installed on storage card, no idea whats causding it!
Same problem here...
However it started when I updated it from 6.01 back on my old Wizard. That worked properly. I did discover that you don't have to go to Prefs... you can get the sound back on by tapping the joystick to the right. Also, it doesn't happen when it's on AC power, but only on battery.

Not a bad workaround, just wish we could find what was causing this.
Just to clear things out, but who has this problem with official and legal versions of TTN 6.03? - E.g. has it something to do with cracked/patched versions?
Mine's legal...
Although I'm starting to regret messing with TomTom. Their customer service is awful. Unless your device is one the approximately 5 devices they officially support, they'll wash their hands of you if you call for help saying your device is "not compatible." I called for support on my Wizard, which to be exact was a Cingular 8125. That phone is not on their list of compatible devices, but its twin, the T-Mobile MDA, is on the list. I called and said I had an 8125 and they refused to help me. I hung up, called back, and said I had an MDA. They tried to help me, but when they didn't have an instant answer for me they just said, "Sorry, we don't have that problem on ours" and started spewing out useless canned knowledge base articles. For heaven's sake, the MDA and 8125 are the SAME PHONE! Also, don't tell them you have WM6, because WM6 is "not compatible." Basically, if you have to call TomTom support, lie through your teeth. I'm waiting for OnCourse Navigator, due out in October or November, and then I may abandon TomTom.
Just to compile information...
OK Let's see:
1) I got my TT6.03 legal with legal maps and I got the problem.
2) Running my old legal TT6.01 I didn't had the problem.
3) If I do it using Prefs I need to activate twice the sound in order to get the mute removed
4) I got the problem running on baterry, using the oficial car charger and using the wall charger. I got the problem all the time no matter what power source I'm using.
5) The "Move Joysting to Right" workaround works great. Thank you very much. That don't solve the problem but makes my live much easier.
So... that's the point. I'm running TT6.03 (legal) over WM5 ROM in spanish.
Best Regards,
mahjong
So.... resuming: it's TomTom Navigator 6.03 with the combination of the HTC X7500/Athena.
The problem isn't there while running 6.03 on a HP iPAQ hx4700, Qtek 9000 and HTC Touch.
I have 6.030 on WM6 English on my Athena and I don't have this problem...
I don't have this problem either. I'm using version 6.0

Then that goes for version 6.03 only. With 6.00 it didn't matter wether the data connection was active or not.
Anyway, I need to stick with 6.03 and live with the mute problem, since 6.03 can work with my voices stored on storage card (instead of MD) and performs a fix in only seconds (instead of 1 - 1,5 minute).
No sound after starting TT6.03
I have the legal version of TT6.03 and I have the problem too. I only have this problem when my phone is connected to the internet using gprs, umts or hsdpa. If their is no connection I do not have this problem. It also happens on other devices for instance the HP iPAQ 6340 and it is a know bug. TomTom know's about it. It will be solved in te next version.

BINGO!!! We got a winner here ladies and gentlemans.
Mine has the connection online all the time due to my push-mail solution (Blackberry Connect). I did some test shutting down Blackbery Connect before starting TT and "the problem" just gone.
Thank you. Anyway since I must have connection online all the time the "Joystick move to right" trick is great for me.

Guys great thread, I am glad to see someone else is struggling with this strange issue. Its really no big deal, its just annoying. Any updates on this issue yet?
And here was me thinking it was my *cough* test *cough* version. Loving the 'fix' taa v much. I might have to write a mortscript that recycles the data connection, rotates the screen and starts TT.

which ROM do you have?
Do you happen to have BigMike bluetooth running?
standy..you mean you press the power button and the screen goes off, right? And then it turns on by itself? Did you check if your bluetooth is on? Because I experienced this too before, if I left the bluetooth on and I turn off (stand by) the BA after a while it will turn on itself. Hope this helps. Cheers.
Try going through your power management under settings.
You might have tick a few things there.

Well... check out your settings if you have a program runing under... and it needs conections via BT, Wi-fi or GPRS... your device gonna wakes up trying to get conection all the ways it can... if nothing is runing behind maybe was a bad flash... reflash it...
Hope all we can help you...

It could either be Bluetooth running and also it could be some appointment/message turning your device on. Also, do you have your device cradled? ActiveSync (if connected to PC) will turn your device on to sync.
Hope this helps

There is no fix. Since WM5, the BT driver requires that it be turned on periodically or else it turns itself off. All ROM cookers (AFAIK) use the big mike fix driver to keep the BT alive.

I read somewhere that if you installed another BT stack that eventually it would solve the problem? Is this true?
ok there is fix but i do not advice you to use it if you use BT handsfree - because with original driver BT turns off when device get in standby and this one keeps it working
you can install S2U2 and set:
Lock when device wakes up: ON
Power Off in: 5s (this is the minimum).
this is not a solution, but more like a workaround...this works for me well...

CarKitMode mode activator (CU-S400 Emulator)

Hi,
I've installed the update for Navipanel hoping it would work now, even though I don't have the CU-S400. I start the Navipanel.exe from the exe in the Windows folder, and it starts up as expected. When I try to make a call the dialer always switches to portrait even though Navipanel is in landscape.
Could this be a dialer problem (I have the latest Energy ROM) or is it because I started navipanel by hand.
Anyone knows how to solve this? Is there a registry key that forces the dialer to stay in landscape mode? Or is there something I can do with the microusb power connector (short pins?) to force the landscape mode?
It would be great if anyone is able to give me some details on registry changes when the CU-S400 connects (can be detected using SKTracker) so I can maybe write a utility/tool force this mode without the actual carkit.
Any help is apreciated, I hate it when the device return to portrait while I'm driving.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Nothing was available so I cooked up something myself. See post 31 for a cab file.

Its more of a quick work-around rather than a total fix, but have you tried Gyrator2? Its a program that allows the screen to rotate in pretty much all programs.
Hi,
I did, but it doesnt work; the dialer goes to portrait mode, and only switches to landscape again if I hold my phone in portrait and then to landscape again.
Is there noboby who has got it working and is willing to check somethings?
TIA,
Cheers,

I have htc car holder CU-S400 and for me it stays in the landscape even in dialer mode.
I have tried to start navipanel without car holder but then in dialer mode it goes to portrait.
I belive it is related to micro usb on car holder.I hope this will help.
It does, thanks. I've send you a PM.

Well, it seems the registry that enables/disables NaviPanel is in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Keypad\"IsCarKitMode" with dword 0 or 1. The file that controls this registry settings going on or off is HTCApplication.dll. The 'Keypad' key doesn't exist, so you'll have to add it and add the IsCarKitMode dword value.
I can't get it to work with my a2dp stereo headphones to connect automatically, but I think this is because when doing the bluetooth handshake, some flags must not be set that show it to be a car kit possibly. Only other option would be bthutil.dll after that and see what it does.

So, digging in some more I found this post. The IsCarKitMode registry key does exist on our HD2's, and changing it's value to 1 briefly brings up the Navipanel. But sometings ( I guess the HTC Application service) changes it rights back to 0, disableing the 'true' landscape mode. Disableing the service isn't an option I think; it handles much more then just the car kit mode. An looking at the DLL that handles the service (HTCApplication.dll) didn't give me much info; the IsCarKitMode strings didn't even exist in it.
So now I'm looking for the pinout of the CU-S400 micro USB connector. I know the three coper connections beside the SIM may have the answer, but I also found threads stating certain Mini2Micro USB adapters made the device think it's in car kit mode. Anyone with any input on how to hardwire this please speakup
TIA,
Cheers,
Cacti
Never mind, I got it working now
Thanks for all your help
I've got a working NaviPanel and landscape dialer even withou the CU-S400. It detects AC power, waits for my BT Carkit to connect and then starts NaviPanel. True landscape, even if the dialer is started and when a call comes in.
Now all I need to figure out why every navigation shortcut in NaviPanel adds the Show parameter to CoPilot, and how CoPilot knows need to Go Home, Show Recent places, Addresses of simply start.
Again, I need the help. this time from someone using CoPilot and who is willing to use SKTracker to find out what's going on. I almost have the perfect solution, I'm nearly there
TIA,
Cheers,

Would you like to share your setup ?
Go on le_cactus,and I am glad to see that you found solution for your problem.
I am sorry for didn't send you requested screenshot, but I was on trip and I didn't have good internet connection.
I hope you will find solution how to integrate alternative navigation system with navipanel, and I hope one of them will be GarminXT.
You know I really hate when someone says "I found a solution" and does not care enough to share the solution with others, but yet had to ask here in the first place. As for the navipanel, if you connect pin 4 to ground it will start up navipanel and let you use the dialer in landscape without it rotating to portrait first. Hope this helps others finding their way here for a solution.
duplicate sorry!

Yes that was Bl**dy annoying.
However here is the answer.
It is possible to modify any car power adapter to enable navipanel. You must indeed connect pin 4 to ground pin 5. However I have discovered it is not that simple, that did not work on my power adapter. The reason was this.
Most power adapters connect pins 2+3 (the USB data lines) together to identify that it is a charger capable of supplying higher power than a PC USB port. This enables "fast charge". with these pins connected the HD2 wont go into navipanel.
It is neccessary to remove the link between pins 2+3 and instead link 4+5.
This allows the HD2 to switch to navipanel mode and at the same time recognise there is a high power charger present!!
The pins look like this from the rear
* * *
* *
numbered
5 3 1
4 2
I hope this helps someone else looking for this solution. It would be great if you could buy a "proper" aftermarket car adapter for the HD2 that had this mod done!
Cheers all and enjoy!

Hi Bob,
I was also annoyed ybout the missing possibility to start the car kit mode. The Navi Panel was not a problem to start with a shortcut but unfortunately the predefined connect to my Parrot hands free set via bluetooth wouldnt work. So I have to crack it on the hardware side
I was very happy about your posting and the provided solution. I plan to start a field trial with a micro USB cable, my side cutter and my soldering iron. Hopefully I can affirm your pin-bridges
But before I start, I have to be sure that I count the plug pins right. Is the numbering of attached picture right or should I have to count otherwise?
Thanks for your help.
Here I got the answer!

original usb adaptor solved this issue
I am coming from tytn II and I have the original htc car charger, when I purchased the HD2 I found that the charger can't be used with it, then I went back to HTC store here in Saudi Arabia and asked for an adaptor (USB mini to USB micro), and it cost less than 3 USD and once I attached to the HD2 it went to the Navipanal.
I think the solution of the resistor was built in it or it is because of using the original HTC car charger (which was for the Tytn II).
Funny thing that I thought that this is natural with any Car charger till I saw this thread
CU-S400 Emulator
Hi,
I finaly got a working CU-S400 Car Holder emulator! When using my HD2 in landscape mode in my car I ran into the following problems:
The device changes to portrait mode everytime the dialer comes up
The device always goes to speakerphone on incoming calls, even though my Parrot carkit is connected. Outgoing call are routed through my Parrot carkit though. I always had to manualy disable speakerphone on every incomming call.
I have to switch on Bluetooth everytime I enter my car; having BT on all the time drains my battery to fast
Running NaviPanel (to solve part of the above problems) disables the StartMenu hardkey, and changes the Home hardkey to always change to NaviPanel instead of Sense.
The attached ZIP file contains the following files:
CarKitMode Detect Helper.exe - A modified file that is originaly used by the Via Michelin GSP software. It detects if AC Power is connected of disconnected, and the launches my HTC_car_kit_mode_auto.exe. It either launches with the AC_ON or AC_OFF parameter, depending on wheter AC is connected or disconnected.
CarKitMode Detect Helper.lnk - The shortcut that is placed in \Windows\StartUp to autostart the monitoring of te AC connection.
HTC_car_kit_mode_auto.exe - A Basic4PPC file I created. If started with the AC_ON parameter it changes the registry so my HD2 thinks it's connected to a CU-S400 Car Holder. It enables Blueooth and then waits for 2 minutes to see i the bluetooth device specified in NaviPanel settings is connected. If not, shuts itself down after disabling Bluetooth. If Bluetooth is connected sits, and waits for a call, and then disables speakerphone if it sees that speakerphone is enabled. That way the call is routed through the BT device.
When started with the AC_OFF parameter it changes the registry back, disables BT and shuts itself down.
VJSpeakerPhoneOFF.exe - The program that is called to disable speakerphone. It's part of the VJPhoneShortcuts suite that was created many years back by Vijay555. Big thanks to him, although I'm sure there are other programs that will do the same.
I've tested a lot, and can't find any battery or performance penalty for the always running helper application. And the HTC_car_kit_mode_auto only runs if AC power is connected, and then only for two minutes if the BT device isn't connected. Just unzip the attached CU-S400 Emulator.zip to the root of your device and soft reset. I tried to make a CAB file, but installing it always failes, haven't got a clue why. If anyone find a way to create this cab file, please let me know.
Best way to use this if BT is disabled by default. And it's not necessary to enable the auto launch of NaviPanel. I don't use it anymore. It disables the StartMenu hardkey, and since I don't use CoPilot it doesn't do much for me. By using these utilities I do have true landscape support for the dialer, and I works with any AC power connection, no need to modify the USB connector. I'm very happy, my in car experience is 100% better now.
Hope this helps anyone, if not I'm still happy, it works for me!
Cheers,
/Cacti

Hi,
unfortunately this wont work on my ROM. I use original german ROM with all updates. If I copy your "Startup" shortcut to my "Autostart" folder I get an error message, that the application is not certified or some components are missing. I already dissabled the "uncertified" message with HD2Tweak and it works for other apps.
Best regards

Hi,
At what point does the error message occur? At startup (while launching CarKitMode Detect Helper.exe) or when connecting or disconnecting power?
Cheers,

At StartUp. Maybe it's because I use german ROM?
