Hello
After activate the ICS on wm6 (HTC pharos 100 wm6.1 ?? ), my netbook eeepc under mandriva 2008.1, mount correctly the BNEP0 interface ...
on linux EEEpc I can :
ping www.google.comnslookup 72.14.207.99
the route command print correctly the default gateway to bnep0
but I can't browse with Firefox or Opera (preferences are Direct connected to internet)
I try using wget ... connection refused
I try wget with different port but same message.
On another linux box, connected with ethernet, the same command start saving html page, as normal ...
I suppose it's a firewall problem, but how to modify the WM6 firewall ? (no firewall started on linux)
Could it be a provider lock ?(french BouyguesTelecom)? (my htc is new)
Regards
I reply to myself ...
after some tests ... and 1 web page loaded sucessfully :
my connection is apparently with EDGE, and I don't have constant connection ...
I start ping ... google reply 5 times .... and mothing during 30seconds, and ping again ...
when pinging, the web page can be load ... after, web browser wait, and go into timeout ...
I will find if we can increase timeout on linux Opera web browser (Firefox have a really small timeout minus than Opera)
I will ask to Bouyguestelecom, about this network issue.
in fact Bouygue Telecom, block modem phone usage, with standard Web & Surf option.
To resolve this :
1> trying to modify the User-Agent of linux browser (I try 1 time but don't works)
2> subscribe to the "Data Pocket" option which allow the modem phone usage
I try the 1st solution using
wget --user-agent="Opera mobil;......." but still have the :80 connection refused
Is anyone have a good solution to user the wget parameters ?
Solution found!!!
Hey I know it's an old post but I have been stuck in the same situation as the OP for weeks until I found a solution.
I got full internet connectivity by setting the PAN (bnep0) connection's MTU to the bluetooth connection's ACLMTU value and it worked first time!!!!!!!!!
Until then I believed my SIM card or phone was locked or my provider limited internet connection sharing but the solution was simple and as described above!!!!!
Anyone wanting more detailed information about this can address me in the forum or PM medirectly!!!

Hi all,
is there anybody who can tell me how i can test my pocket pc application which is a simple webserver, through activesync??
i can get it's IP address (192.168.55.101) but i can't reach it from my workstation, also i have no idea how to change it.
when connect through GPRS all works fine , simply would like to test it from my workstation.
After some research i noticed that it is a pass-through connection and that it uses TCP to do this.
anybody an idea on how to use it so that i can use my workstations IE to show the pocket pc's page on the little webserver i wrote.
greetz,
Marc

Folks, please do follow my articles. I've published several articles on the networking model of ActiveSync, particularly under WM5.
See http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=555&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
Under WM5 / WM6, as long as you don't disable the new AS networking model (it's enabled by default), your IP is 169.254.2.1
Hey gurus
being a proud owner of new xda exec (O2 UK) 've got the following questions .....
KINDLY GIVE ME STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS PLS....
1) Wireless Modem --- How can I use my exec's browsing on my laptop either by bluetooth or usb ? I tried with bluetooth where in which I can detect my laptop in my device and i started wireless modem (selecting bluetooth) and clicked 'start'...later from laptop's bluetooth wizard i initiated dial-up-networking and GOT STUCK! wats my user id and password and which number to dial ? i tried giving my mobile number(device mobile number) without any user id and password but with no joy...all i got is error message saying that couldn't connect ....Retry
2) Terminal Client -- All I understood from manufacturer's provided guide and forums is this just like pcAnywhere stuff -- controlling remote computres..... i 'm interested in doing the same with my laptop... I tried here but which server name should i give while configuring it in the device ? even if i give my computer name how on earth it can detect my laptop ? shud i do some config change in my laptop like making it visible externally ???
3) GPRS vs WAP -- My exec is preloaded with both as it comes with Welcome Browse & Download tariff of O2. I've got one ready-made connection under 'My ISP' and 'My Work Network' which are as follows :
My ISP
Name - 'Mobile Web' of type Cellular Line(GPRS, 3G)
Access point -- mobile.o2.co.uk
My Work Netwrk
Name - 'O2 Active' of type Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Access point -- wap.02.co.uk
As GPRS is charged based on content downloaded where as WAP is charged based on the online duration (correct me if i'm wrong pls )... what should i do if i always wants to use GPRS ? Can i delete 'My work Network' as it's access point is pointing to WAP?? Am i correct in saying this ?? If i delete this wud u see any probs in browsing and other functionalities of my device???
4) Active Sync Support Code 85010014 -- Searched a lot on this nasty bug and all i found is remedy but not the fix
lately i 'm finding myself reinstalling outlook everytime when i want to sync my outlook stuff ?? but no user reported such frequent reinstallations ?? is it something really gone crazy with my outlook ?? btw i installed outlook from the provided cd and synching my lotus notes with it by 'Outlook Connector for Domino' (downloaded from microsoft site).... its practically not feasible to reinstall everytime isn't it i'm looking either to get rid of this nasty bug or other means of synching my lotus notes into my device preferably freeware pls....
Thanks in advance...
Looking forward to your expert replies ...

OK, i can give a bit of insite on 2 points
2) For you to be able to connect to a machine remotely with TSC, it must be running Windows XP Pro, Server 2000 or server 2003. and have it enabled under controlpannel > System > Remote Tab.
As names translate to IPs through DNS, the computername should be fine, aslong as your device is on the same network segment (subnet) as the machine you are trying to connect to, otherwise IP is needed.
3 think of WAP as a highway, and GPRS and GSM as the cars. GSM is pay by time, and GPRS is pay by byte. Wap is just the type of connection, and you will need the wap connection to access O2 active (If it is anything like voda, you will only be ableto get O2 active through this, and you will neeed to use the other one for normal net browsing)

hello all,
gots me a problem . im going to japan november, want to remote desktop back to here when necessary and be able to access a hdd here for dumping pictures. i have a lan here, wifi, it has a connection surfs the net etc.
it has an ip address from my router. is there a program or command that will get me the kind of command functionality of a dos/command prompt? ping, ipconfig, etc?
then if i can get them to talk, what steps do i need to take to remote in. do i need software? i enabled remote here, setup a user (vista BTW).
i cant access here from the laptop with xp either that one can ping. its also wifi currently. im obviously missing something and would appreciate any help, or web site links etc to show me what ive missed.
thanks in advance.
hi, a lot of admin utilities is in program called vxUtil. try to find it, if you are interrested. this is list of few features -
DNS Audit
DNS Lookup
Finger
Get HTML
Info
IP Subnet Calculator
Password Generator
Ping
Ping Sweep
Port Scanner
Quote
Time Service
Trace Route
Wake On LAN - magic packet
Whois
or look at HERE
so this was for PDA, and this is for full connection via SSH VPN encrypted connection. I work for Infineon/Qimonda company, and there is strict security policy in here. So we have not permitted to ping, or created FTP connection with outside and many other services (like sending files through ICQ and etc.). There is one way, use your own SSH tunell ;-) on my home PC I have installed WinSSHD Bitvise server liseninng on port 443 (which cannot be blocked, because all our lotus notes databases is secured with HTPPS) and from work I can connect easily to home. Then is easy to create FTP connection, or terminal, or full GUI terminal (mstsc.exe e.g.) Link to this server (not free) and also to very good client (free) is HERE
I also have few routers connected to stable IP´s adress, which also have VPN features. Then is easy for me to connect to my home lan from everywhere.
thanks so much, i knew someone would point me the right way.
since last post, i have managed to remote desktop from my phone on the LAN just using built in remote desktop. tomorrow i will attempt an internet connection probably not configured something yet!
im checking out those web pages now. thanks again
Hi there!
I'm using a xperia X1 with the latest firmware version installed which SE released.
I also use spb mobileshell 3.0 ; active sync via exchange(over SSL, not VPN); palringo; Xperiatweak; TaskFacade; G-Alarm; Skype;WM6 Remote Desktop;.net vnc viewer;
My provider is o2 and I live in germany.
I'd like to use a pptp vpn connection to get connection to several services in my network. I already used it with my xda-mini-s and my orbit2, never had serious problems. Sometimes it took a few soft-resets until i got it working... but now...
I set up my connection as I always did,
@preferences->connections->add vpn-server ;
after adding the server i specified a couple of exeptions for my network-> reboot. -done-
But this time it won't connect automatically, it doesn't react when i type in a ip/name which is defined in the exeptions. (usually it is attempting to connect to my vpn server...)
I can navigate to the preferences->connections-> edit vpn-server and connect manually. It establishes a connection successfully and i can use e.g. rdp.
PLEASE HELP!
I can't figure out why its not connecting automatically.
I entered the exeptions like I always did.
(e.g. 192.168.14.200 or domaincontroller.domain.local -> a wildcard is added automatically to the entrys -> listed like this: 192.168.14.200/*)
I would be very happy if anybody could help!
Best regards, and have a nice day.

found out something new
Hi there!
Today I found out something new. IT DOES AUTOMATICALLY CONNECT, FOR SOME PROGRAMS...
It's just a question which Software I use.
For example, I always used rdp over vpn.
So I tested if its opening the tunnel if i try to connect to one of my desktops via remotedesktop, and its not.
(on the "old" phone, rdp was included from stock, on xperia i had to install it)
I tested connecting over a java irc app, which is also not working.
If I use e.g. Opera to connect to a website (e.g. owa) over a local ip, its successfully establishing the connection and i could log in.
DAMN!
I need it to work with, rdp, vnc and irc!
Shouldn't the phone recognize that I try to connect to a url/ip wich is located in my LAN whatever wich software is used?
PLEASE HELP
Have a nice sunday.

Win**** -- Did you ever find a solution/explanation for this?
I used to use a vpn for activesync, and activesync always automatically invoked the vpn connection...so I took that for granted...but today I've been using the WM6 Remote Desktop client, and like you, I can't believe that the recognition of url "exceptions" is useless for this app.
BTW, I would have been happy if I could just create a convenient shortcut to start the connection manually, but I've been all up and down the Web, and apparently there's no way to do that, either. mad, indeed.
i have a similar issue, my phone connets and after 20 secs it drops the VPN

Explorer tries to connect to the device on port 80. If there is no service running you can't connect I wonder what page is viewed connecting to localhost when running wm5
I'am developing a mobile application based on OpenMobileIS open source framwork, this techno use the internet explorer web browser for application interface : webserver includes in the framework. So for that I have to access my application throught the localhost on internet explorer or another mobile web browser.
im having a similar problem on a wm6.5 device.
I want to dynamically forward ports back to my device from a remote ssh server, and im having problems...
I think its to do with wm6.5 not having a concept of a localhost...
localhost 127.0.0.1 connect
hi,
im trying to get a webserver running on my WindowsPhone!!!
i wanna exchange data with my home server later if WLAN access exist.
i used WindowsPocketPC 2003 and all worked well... now i have 6.5 and nothing works...
ok i have find out:
You need to change the registry because there is no hosts File like WindowsXP has. Or you can use a tool for this "Pockethosts"!
(or try 127.0.0.1:80/index.php - 80 is port of your server and give full name of file)
and you need to have Internet access. (I tested it with WLAN internet over my Router)
---------
but im still dont get it to work without internet access
can some one help with this?
(Internet access to connect localhost LoL)

I know it's been a year but I had previously tested on a device with Windows Mobile 6.1 and worked locally without connection, but now I have a just got a Handheld Device with 6.5 and if there is not a connection. The local web server is not accesible and says: Cannot Connect: Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings.
I am using PocketHPH (Web server and simplified PHP engine with SQLite)
There is no place like 127.0.0.1 (home sweet home) !!
What happens if you install the Network Folder plug-in and NbstatCE ?
Nbtstat for the Pocket PC. Written in Embedded Visual C++. All versions of Windows CE have a file explorer which can not view windows shares easily. Nbtstat allows the user to view netbios shares on all IP addresses in a subnet.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/nbtstatce/
Though I'm not running WM 6.5.x I'm curious if these both links help you out...
and
Did you forward a port on your router? Thus trying http://127.0.0.1 : portNumber (no spaces here, I typed it this way otherwise appears)
..
There are 65,536 ports which can be used, though every port below the 56,000 is for the industry; thus use a port above 56,000
The web server was on default port 9000, then changed it to port 80. Like I mentioned before, works fine if there IS a WiFi Connection, but once it is lost I can't connect to the local web server.
Don't worry try one of this browser skyfire or uzardwebp and let me know

Can't download Skyfire, cause it's not available in my area. Tried uzardwebp, but just won't connect to anything. Installed Opera 10 Mini and similar results with IE. If there is a Wifi Connection present the internal web server works great. Once there is no WiFi connection I get Network Problem message in opera.
