Vibration unit - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi there,
Does anyone have a spare vibration unit/module/thingy that is inside the hermes? Or know where i could get one?
If anyone has a trashed Hermes with it intact i would be willing to take it off your hands
Cheers

It seems that there are not so many variants of those devices.
I also dropped my Hermes leading the vibration alarm to malfunction.
I extracted a spare one from an old Nokia I had. So maybe you will find one in an old phone as well.
Good luck!

Dropping the Hermes is most unlikely to break the vibrator motor. What happens is that the two spring contacts bend a little and lose contact with the m/board. All you have to do is bend the contacts out a little and all will work again. A simple fix and only requires the back casing to be removed.

My contacts were allright.
The problem was, that the unbalanced mass deformed the axis of the vibration alarm, when it hit the ground.

Ah ok - must have been a big hit that it took.

Wow, You sure you didn't throw it? LOL

Thanks for the replies. I might gut a few old phones when i get home and see if i can find one.

Stylus problem

Sice a few days i can slide easily the stylus of my TyTN in and out - to easily. Nothing holds the stylus. The well known problem!
I asked the german HTC support for a solution - still waiting...
What are the solutions? If i turns out exchange, do you think new devices don't have this problem any more?
thx

Unfortunately it's just the well known rubber block that comes off. It's a very easy fix just glue it back in the right place. Problem is that if you take the back off you void any warranty you may have.
See here:

Mike
I had the same problem. While I was replacing my digitizer and LCD I looked for the rubber block and it was still there - so I bent the tab down and adjusted the plastic part that grasps the point of the stylus and all is well again.
Pics are floating around in the WiKi or on mikechannon's posts.
Thanks for the link.
Since the device is only some months old and I wouldn't like to lose the warranty, I cannot open it unfortunately. Is there a other way/solution?

The only other option you have is to send the device back under warranty.
The dealer offered an exchange of the device to me. Alternatively he will turn back the device and refund the money to me.
What do you think, are the new devices better in that point?
When does the "Kaiser" come out?
In the meantime I read in another thread that the error arises very rarely. Surely?

My sound seems to be ok. It's only the slide/lock problem.
This was very common with the HTC Wizard. With my Hermes it gets loose everynow and then; it kinda fixes itself. Like sometimes it will just fall out, and other times its snug just like new.
Wierd huh?
so i'm gonna vote no on the poll because it barely bothers me.

HTC not vibrating anymore

Hello to all,
I have a HTC 3600 with the rom “Karmba_a 7.2 eLiAs EN-20000” for a long time and everything was working great, until last Friday when it stop vibrating as it was suppose to do when receiving a call.
After trying lots of things I decided to reflash it. And it’s still the same, does not vibrate.
Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem?
Thanks in advance
try change motor vibretor or see if there are humidity in bord neer the contact. it´s an easy operation

Changing motor vibrator needs to go to repair.
How can see bord to see if there is humidity? Does not look like a easy operation.

it may cause of the loosen screw which stick the vibrator with the phone. I have this happen before, you can try open the case and screw it back or take to some repair shop.

Thank you enduromen and ctrlaltdel.
Well, I'm having the same problem again, sometimes vibrate, sometimes don't.
And I can hear something loose inside the phone maybe it's the screw that stick the vibrating motor.
Can anyone tell me if there is a tutorial for opening the phone and check that out?
Thanks in advance

unscrew (inside trinity 1.jpg; screw circled with red) and open the cover, then you will see the vibrator and the screw that stick the virbator with the MB (inside trinity 2.jpg; circle with red). Screw it back and done.

I've tried flashing a new rom, as well as trying a different headset... same deal
(I however haven't tried if those headsets work with other phones... so I'll try to do that next to make sure I'm not unlucky to the point where both mics dead)
Had a similar problem today--erratic vibrating and occasional strange noises. Thought it was the ROM that I had just reflashed but thankfully stumbled onto this thread - it was the very loose screw! Thanks for the advice.
Just to add a little levity, here's a solution that you probably didn't think of and most likely wouldn't have thought you needed. But... it's a funny idea, nonetheless...

One word of warning: There's also another screw under the stylus. Don't forget that one when you dissasemble or it might break.

The tool needed can be bought at most electronics stores, ie: Radio Shack, etc...
It is a #6 Torx driver. Also called T6 Might find it at Auto Parts store, but not sure, it's pretty small...
It seems the stopped vibration is almost always the loose screw. Mine fell completely out and was wedged against the vibrating motor, stopping it's rotation. After the phone was open, it was an easy fix.

Touchscreen doesn't work when slider open

hi,
since yesterday, my niki doesn´t response to touchscreen tapping if the slider is opened. i hear a very quiet metallic clicking sound if i open it up... if i try tapping the touchscreen before this little click appears, the touch works... but with slider open completely, it doesn´t. i guess this is hardware specific. i´ve tried a hardreset now, but still doesnt work any advice?
EDIT: i didnt flash any other radio...
EDIT2: sometimes it does work.
Sounds like a ribbon cable has come loose to the touch screen - send it back if it is under warranty, if not, Mike Channon has collected links to the service manuals somewhere on here which should show you how to correctly take it apart, fix it and put it back together again
Cheers,
Smiffy
I had the same problem. In my device it was: cable that goes to touch screen contacted metal on back panel.
I've solve it by finding manual to take my niki apart (http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor_htc_touch_dual/ - but it is in russian). I've done everything till 6 point. Then I put my v-card between this cable and metal. Now it's ok
I've got extra service on mine.
6 euro's a month.
handed in the phone today (same issue), and got given an new one! ;D

You ROCK! I had this exact same problem happen on my NIKI100 after I put Tom's Niki Project ROM on & immediately blamed it but after flashin back to stock the problem still occured & I was really bummin! I found this thread, tore my NIKI apart to step 6 as you described & I could see the spots on the metal of the inside back of the back cover where the cable was rubbing along with the protective plastic worn off on the cable a little bit so I suspect it was touching the metal & shorting out causing the problem (heck I'm surprised it didn't do some real damage!) so I cut about a 1" length of electrical tape & taped it to the area of the metal that it was rubbing on (I didn't see any legit reason for anything to make contact to that area for a ground so I figured it was OK. I started at the edge & ended just before the gaps where you would be able to see the tape from the other side in the battery cavity) and VOILA! it fixed it! To me it looks like a nasty design flaw on HTC's part but not expecting a recall any time soon. I suspect this fix will out last the phone & hopefully this thread will help others. I am 1/2 tempted to tear apart my NEON to see if the same design exists or if they put a piece of tape in that area.

Hm, same problem here. Thought first that it was an error of the ROM that I used..
Btw: isolated every contat that I could find (nearly ) but no result -> still my touchscreen doesn't work when my slide is open..
EDIT: has anyone PHOTO'S of their disassembly and isolation work? I the problem is different on my device 'cuz the cable hasn't worn off...
Ok,
Now I took my device apart to the last piece, took the display cable apart, taped it in completely and my touchscreen WORKS once again :-D.
Woot! Thumbs up for XDA-developers!

ive brought my dual to a vodafone shop and they have fixed my dual. Replaced a part and software update, got windows 6.1 now, legal and my screen is working like a champ!
I have had the same problem with my touch screen except mine stopped working completely, it didn't matter if it was slide out or not. I could get the phone replaced on warranty though.
Just posting so people know this isn't just isolated case.
mine slowly stopped working.. im gonna disassemble later and try this. im glad im not alone
edit: worked a treat. some insulation tape on the metal shielding worked great.
That did't work for me! Can it be something else or is it the flex cable for shure? I'm considering buying a new flex cable on ebay! Will that fix the problem with touchscreen dos'nt work when slide is open?
theres a 99% chance that its the flex cable.. did you check it for any damage? mine had tiny tiny little dots with wire exposed. barely noticable but it was enough. try taping the cable. i dont know. if not, i'd get a new cable for sure.
It's worth a try. I've just bought a new cable. Hopefully it will make my
Dual working again. Now I just have to wait a week for it.
The cable arrived today and my dual now works perfect. Now the question is which phone i'll use, my dual or my new Diamond.. =)
hey, where did you get yours from? and how much did it cost?
i have seen ebay, but they are over 30$US including shipping.

Then unfortunately you may need a new camera. You can try pushing it on and off the contacts a few times just in case a contact is oxidised but other than a hard reset, there's not much else to try.

thanks mike for the response!
the camera worked worked for a short while but reverted back to the green stuff. any further attempts at getting it to work have been futile,
would a hard reset really be necessary?
any idea what could be the issue? (other connectors)
how much would it cost to replace and where could i get one from?

To be honest I don't think a hard reset would work, all it would do would be to rule out any software issue.
You're best bet would be to find someone parting out a Hermes. Finding a new original part could be very difficult although you could try contacting some of the companies listed on my website www.mikechannon.net
(I do not recommend any of the listed companies - I have never dealt with any of them, I simply list a few as possibles to try).
You could try posting here to request a part from someone with a bricked phone (for example). I recently gave thw same part to a member here myself - but that was the only one I had.

Mike, just wanted to say a big thank you for all your documentation. My HTC was suffering this "green-screen" camera problem, and would sometimes work after a soft-reset, and sometimes not, before finally doing nothing but display the "green death".
After trying a ROM re-flash (and what a HUGE learning curve that was to absorb in one day!) I eventually found your post above, and with your helpful pages was able to dismantle the phone case, and re-seat the camera connector.
It took three or four "re-seats" to get it to work again, but it did the trick! And all for the cost of a £6.99 Torx set.
Much obliged!

Well done. Those connectors can get a little oxidised and start acting up. Glad you got it sorted (for now). That ROM flashing experience won't go amiss either
Mike
You can also use a little isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud on the connectors to clean off any oxidation, However, don't use metho as it leaves a residue.
Works a little better than just reseating a few times, you'd be amazed at the stuff that builds up in your Hermes...

Thanks for that, Ultramag69. I've got some isopropyl alcohol, so I'll give that a try. The camera started doing the same thing again recently (clumsiness on my part, knocking the 'phone around, I expect) and it's probably worth mentioning that it's definately a connection issue, as oppose to battery / power etc., as I found squeezing the case from the front and back just above the camera lens could temporarily "fix" the problem.
Thanks again.

russian hammer
hi all,
thx for all your tips.
i had the same greenline problem as well and read somewhere in here about the russian hammer technique.
so after i had tried all hard and soft reset and all kinds of ROM flashing, I just gave my phone a solid knock onto the back where the cam sits, while i had the green flickering screen on and HELLO! now it is clear again.
So seriously this is a connector problem, a loose contact or whatever.
so people, try the knocking first b4 you loose all that time like me

My HD2 Vibration Not Working Any More...

Today I noticed that my HD2 vibrates strangely, it sounds like a shaving machine when vibrating
I performed many soft resets, hard reset, then I flashed an offcial ROM, SPL, etc. but nothing works. I guess the problem is related with the vibration hardware.
I will be sending my phone to HTC service tomorrow, and let you know about the results.
Anybody faced the problem? Or any suggestion before sending the device to service?
Thanks...

Can't seem to find them... anyway, the flash housing is nearly directly over the vibration motor thing, and if the plastic flash cover gets loose it could very well push the flash housing down (it's not very secure, pretty soft metal actually) and block the motor.
Just check if the plastic flash cover is pushed in from the rest of the body.
E: If it is, then get it repaired by warranty, as it's not worth opening it up to fix yourself and voiding your warranty.

Hi,
My Leo stopped vibrating. I saw your posts and checked the camera flash. It was indeed pushed in. My warranty was not valid, so I tried to fix it myself. It was actually very easy. I followed a video showing how to disassemble the Leo . As soon as the housing is removed, we have access to the flash plastic cover. I've just snapped it in very carefully et voilá: the phone is back to its own self!
Many thanks for the tip. I would never have guessed it was related to the flash cover!!

My phone is still not back from the service
I have my phone back...
Finally, I have my phone back. The service report tells me that they have changed a part responsible for vibration. I checked the vibration functionality and actually it is working fine now. One surprise however is that the flash cover still appears to be pushed in.
Same problem
My TMobileUS HD2 is having the exact same problem - no vibration at all, even after hard reset. I also see the camera light's assembly is no longer correctly positioned in the body as it should be. It seems that the lower end is pulling into the body of the phone.
I treat my phone very gently, so I'm sure this didn't happen from rough treatment. Given that it's happening on a number of contiinents, this looks like a design defect.
TMobile demanded that I send it in for warranty service.
No Vibration Either
I have a TMOUS HD2, and I may have been the cause of this happening after reading this. I have no clue what you're talking about, but I have dropped the phone a few times and though the problem didn't happen right after a drop, it was just odd how it started. I had it set to vibrate when I pressed any keys, and then I was texting and it stopped. So... the only thing that I've seen that is a case that I only seem to have, my phone vibrates AT WILL, but when it does, it's very raspy and sounds very 'sick' and loud. So, I am not about to open my phone. I'm tech savvy enough, but in no way have I ever tinkered with hardware. I got my HD2 back in May, so I'm hoping that I have a warenty through HTC at least. I haven't contacted anyone about this, so is it my best bet to just send it to HTC or contact T-Mobile? And I have insurance, but I purchased my phone from Walmart. lol. Help?
I just came across this thread....
my vibrate function has been broken for several months and I've been delaying sending in for repair because I'm afraid of how long it will take (plus, it is the Australian version so I dont know if HTC North American will actually repair it under the current warranty)
I noticed that the bottom part of my flash does in fact seem to be pushed in. I'm considering doing what Maria did (opening it herself and popping the flash back into place). Does anyone have a sense of how long the repair takes from HTC?
Thanks
VIBRATION and FLASH PROBLEM
i'm having the same problem... lower part of the flash is pushed in. and vibration sometimes functioning sometimes not... but worst my FLASH NOT WORKING AT ALL...
Now having the same problem. This is a design flaw if I've ever seen one.
Same problem here, vibration was not working, but I just fix it!
I bought this T-Mobile HTC HD2 off eBay, and turns out that the vibration was not working!!
Once I found out this thread and the information about how the flash cover was blocking the vibration motor from functioning, I was able to confirm this was exactly what was happening!
So, I decided to open up the phone. I did not had to extract the entire screen piece out, I just had to unscrew the four screws and use a "shower suction thingy" on the screen to help pull it out but just the top part (in other words, half way out), because I only needed access to where the flash cover was, and then I was able to use a thin screw driver to PUSH back the flash cover to it right position. Then, after putting everything back to its place, the vibrator motor started to work!!!
Maybe I will put some "super glue" on the flash plastic cover to secure from being accidentally being push in in the future. Anyways, thank you everyone here on the forum for sharing your ideas!
As a late follow-up to mine... I called HTC and got an RMA number. Put off mailing it in for 3 weeks while I backed it up and arranged a temporary phone.
Mailed it on a Friday. Had it back with a replaced back on Monday.
I was EXTREMELY happy with the customer service on this one!
Missed 3 calls today... realize phone is not vibrating. Check different things that should make phone vibrate... nothing...
Flash lens is not pushed in this time... I'm about a month out of warranty now. Wonder how this is going to go over
I had this exact problem occur a few days ago, and I opened it up and simply snapped the light cover back into place carefully. But my phone still wasn't vibrating, so I opened it up again and I saw that the black rubber around the vibrate motor was causing the part that creates the vibration to get stuck. I simply just snipped a bit away so that the it was free and ta da! However the vibration is still weak compared to before so I don't know how to fix that? hope this helps you, and if someone knows why the vibration might be weaker than before the problem started any help would be great. thanks
