HTC Opal - Touch CDMA General

This should open some doors to getting TouchFlo 3D etc. onto the touch, I would assume they're using similar hardware
http://gizmodo.com/5047151/htc-opal-leaks-the-sequel-to-the-htc-touch

That's a GSM phone and uses different hardware.
I'm waiting to see what the diamond has for 3d drivers in the official Sprint release.

Yes, it is a GSM phone, but it makes no difference. The Opal will feature all the same hardware at the original GSM Touch which means that whatever software they will have on it should work on the old GSM and CDMA hardware. This is great news for Touch owners and everyone else who wants to get TouchFLO 3D working on their device.

Question

Why does this forum suck compared to the Elf's forum? That's a serious question.. no fooling around here
o and will stuff in that other forum work with the Vogue?
#1 because the GSM Touch has been out over a year, and now that the Vogue has come out, a lot of Cell Providers have decided to name it the Touch (ie Sprint Touch is actually HTC Vogue) which confuses a lot of people. If you go to ppcgeeks.com you will find that 95% of the people in the HTC Touch Forum are actually HTC Vogue users, but in the USA it's been called the Touch, so everybody is there. So that's why I spend most of my time over there.
#2 Most of it will not because the HTC Touch and the HTC Vogue are completely different devices. The Touch runs at around 200MHZ while the Vogue runs at 400MHZ. The Touch has something like 64MB or storage while the Vogue has 256MB. Different architecture, thus different ROMs, customizations, etc.
Thanks Musicman that was really helpful. Didn't realize there would be so much of a difference.
Nor did I. Good info to know!

HTC Diamond

Damn that new HTC Diamond looks impressive (http://www.htc.com/europe/product.aspx?id=46654). Anyone know if it will be possible to rip the software/rom out of it and install on our Polaris'es?
"Nothing is impossible, what's impossible just takes longer time."
normally htc should put this diamond in new rom wm.6.1 if they will do it, I ask them but they answer (we are working hard....)
More info from London:
http://www.phonemag.com/htc-touch-diamond-is-announced-demoed-052686.php
It looks damm good indeed.
Hope the firmware can be used for the Polaris..only the camera is a 3.2mp..that's a bit low for a new model if u ask me..other gsm's work with 5mp at this moment.
And also the polaris has a 3.2 mp already.
It WILL have WM6.1 but... it is too soon to talk about software for this upcoming device.

Damn impressive handset. I was wondering how much of native WinMo interface available to end user? The less is better, I suppose

Diamond is VGA device, so i'm not sure that it will be possible to use GUI from it on Cruise which is QVGA.
Also question is about acceleration and drivers, cause this features would be really slow on Cruise.

Touch Cruise has 4 times less pixels than Diamond.
Processing power shouldn't be the limiting factor.

The manila interface was out for a couple of months ago, but nobody was able to port it into a Kaiser:

how come the roms of x1i and x1a are compatible

sorry to ask such basic questions but im having truble locating the answers:
1-can someone explain why the cooked or stock roms (os or radio) work fine with both x1i and xia. they have differnt hardware after all (different radio frequency support, different cameras with different video recording capability)
also
2- how come the radio rom is the same while US and europian use different frequencies . and doent the cooked OS rom need to be aware of what frequency the phone is using
3-if i flash a cooked rom that is based on the US ROM do i lose the capability of recording 30FPS ? is the opposite true also?
4- if cross flashing (cooked OS) works for x1 how how come it does not work with touch pro or diamond (meaning that i cant flash htc touchPRO with a ATT FUSE?
Because the software is built to handle both sets of hardware.
There is nothing fundamentally different between the X1a and X1i. The only significant differences are the different radio chip and different Qualcomm CPU, but the OS itself does not need to be changed for those differences. When you flash a ROM, you are only flashing the OS; the radio component is not flashed. Slower video recording in the X1a is just a limit of the MSM7201A chip, again not controlled by the OS.
That should answer questions 1-3.
As for Touch Pro vs Fuze, you can actually flash a Touch Pro ROM onto a Fuze and vice-versa, but the Fuze does have some fundamental differences, such as an extra PTT button, a special AT&T keyboard, and no front camera -- all of which are controlled by the OS. As a result, "cross-flashing" ROMs may have unexpected results. Some Raphael chefs now offer two versions, Touch Pro and Fuze, which are essentially the same minus a few changes for those specific hardware differences. Fuze versions may also include original AT&T branding.
"Cross-flashing" is fully not possible between GSM/UMTS and CDMA phones (eg: between Fuze and Sprint Touch Pro).
This is not strictly on topic (though it is related), but would it be possible to come up with a process to port roms cooked for the Touch HD over to the X1 by updating the parts that would be affected by hardware differences?
I guess as all roms are different that this would not be easy, but if it were possible it'd open up more choices for users. Might it be feasible, or no chance?

You can port the XIP (core os) across and various bits of the operating system, but it can get messy. T
here's no simple way to "port" roms from one device to another.
Have a look at Itjes roms for examples
Is X1a us or uk?

X1a is not US nor UK
X1a = "america" (US, Canada, Mexico, Purto Rico, Chile, Argetina, Boliiva, etc etc etc)
thanks people very educational

its funny that the x1i to me seems (hardware wise) to have more in common with the HD than the x1a. since both use the same radio and cpu
Right up until you get to the slide-action of the HD... oh wait.
Or the 3.8 inch screen on the x1, oh wait

New touchflo 3d

WILL HTC HD get the new touch flo 3d upgrade officially or they will not upgrade it as we used to
they badly supports older devices opposite to nokia
Doubt they will - frankly why should they? We paid for the phone as it is.
Anyway, head over to the blackstone rom forum, you can flash it from there.

HTC Touch/Vogue/Elf - GSM/CDMA Confusion

Hi
So I'm new to these forums and I have some questions.
I would like to run Android on my HTC Touch, but I'm not quite sure if it's possible. I started reading some threads but it's really confusing.
As far as I understand the HTC Touch and the Vogue are practically the same, except that the Touch is GSM, and the Vogue is CDMA. All of the tutorials that I find state that a CDMA Phone is needed, so I guess it's not possible to boot Android on a GSM?
So mine is a Regular HTC Touch, with a SIM Card, so it's a GSM Phone...
Is it possible to run Android on it, and how?
I hope you can help me.
Greets and thanks in advance.
The GSM version of the HTC Touch is known as the HTC Elf, while the CDMA version is known as the HTC Vogue
The Vogue has twice the ROM and RAM of the Elf (256mb ROM and 128mb RAM in the Vogue vs 128mb ROM and 64mb RAM in the Elf). The Vogue also has a 400mhz processor vs the 200mhz one in the Elf.
As for Android on your Elf, take a look at these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385129
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=554479
The poster above is absolutely right. In fact, the only similar thing between the Vogue and the Elf is the outer body... the internals are completely different.
Thanks for these quick answers.
So basically Android on a HTC Elf is possible, but it's not really a smart thing to do ...
Why not a smart thing to do. Even I was thinking to load an Android ROM on my Vogue.

Vogue has no issues. Keep in mind that the build must match the device. HaReT basically is processor driven, which means that if you are not sending the right instructions to the right processor, it simply will not work. Why am I saying this? Processor for Vogue and Elf are different.
