Hello,
I think that there should be a way to get the MicroPad working on Windows Mobile side of HTC Shift without have the Vista started.
There are few nice tools which can show use that there can be found a way. First nice tool is True Connect from raspberrysoftware.com which once installed in Vista you can use your MicroPad even in Windows Mobile (SnapVue liberated) side but this only when Vista is started.
Other nice tool is BlueMouse from teksoftco.com and this allow any bluetooth mouse to work directly on any Windows Mobile without to have any Vista started but we do not have Bluetooth on HTC Shift Windows Mobile side yet.
I think that what we need is the MicroPad drivers for Windows Mobile 6 which once installed can let the MicroPad work on Windows Mobile side without Vista started. Ofcourse if the MicroPad is "diabled" to not be seen from SnapVue as for Bluetooth, WiFi and SD cards then we have a problem with that.
If you're looking for something that does the same that True Connect (and maybe something more...) but is compltely free, have a look at MyMobiler (www.mtux.com).
I've installed it and it works very well. Moreover you can have the screen of your (liberater) WMSide under vista, interacting with it without switching with hw-button: very usevìful to cut-copy-paste from Vista to WM.

With True Connect you can also have the WM screen on Vista side but this application is not free. Anyway the main ideea of this topic is to found a way to have MicroPad mouse working on WM side without need to start Vista because once Vista is started the battery goes down and there are many actions we can complete under WM without need to run Vista. This is why I think that to have MicroPad active under WM is very useful. If anyone know a way for that or have any ideea to get this working please let us know.

Not necessarily! You should bear in mind that the Shift is in effect two separate systems joined via USB with a built in KV switch allowing the keyboard and video to be shared. It may well be that the mousepad "device" is only physically connected to the Vista side of the device which would mean you could never get it working natively with SnapVue/Windows Mobile.
I am of the opinion that the same is most likely true of the SD card/WiFi/Bluetooth elements of the device - I've yet to see or hear any evidence to the contrary.
Regards,
Dave

I also thought at that and if this is true then this is really bad news because there is no way to have Bluetooth, SD Card or WiFi active on SnapVue/Windows Mobilw side. Anyway we have confirmed that not only keyboard and video is shared, the GSM modem is also shared, the same for speakers (but seems that there is no microphone on SnapVue/WM6 as tested with Skype). Anyway I still hope that there is a way to have all these enabled and available on SnapVue/WM6 too.

No! The GSM modem *device* is most definitely not shared. The GSM modem is an integral part of the WinMo side of the Shift - all that is happening in Vista is that the connection established on the WinMo side is shared via NDIS sharing over the USB connection - in pretty much the same way as you could do with a separate WinMo phone and a USB cable.
Regards,
Dave
It's a nice thought to have everything working on both sides of the Shift, but the mouse pad working on the WinMo side is the least of our worries! The touchscreen is far more usable than that tiny mouse pad. I tried the mouse pad briefly the day I got my Shift, but I don't think I've touched it since.
http://mymobiler.com/
This allows you to view your Windows Mobile on the Vista side. It also enables a mouse cursor on Windows Mobile, if you move your mouse right or left from your desktop (you can also disable this).
OK, but what about no microphone support on SnapVue/WM6 side? I just installed Skype, speaker sound is OK but I can't use the microphone and I can't see any settings on WM6 to turn on the microphone.

Did you try changing voice recording format from default to GSM 6.10 under Start/Settings/Options/Voice recording format: on WinMo side?
Thanks
Ram
No, I never do that. I just flashed my phone with the custom ROM 2.0 with OperaMini, GPS, Google Maps , RealVGA, Total Commander... inside and after that I get 30 Mb free space and all is OK but there is no microphone when I try to use Skype PocketPC latest version.
Just try that and see

it's my fault... I posted a while ago that the Microphone in WinMo works 100%.
I can't reproduce that. I'm starting to wonder if I was correct with my observation.
If the mic ever worked, it was on the base ROM, un-liberated European version.
I send some mails from my device with :insert voice note: from the email client, and back then I strongly believed it worked , as people reply-ed to those mails with text that implicated they heard my message.
The GSM Codec selection is useful when sending audio in email attachments, as the filesize is only 2Kbyte per second, ot a little less actually.
So I might be proven wrong, I apologize.

Is better that you know that microphone was available on the non-liberated SnapVue because if this is true then you can find a way to have the microphone active also on your custom ROM version. I was afraid that microphone was not available on the SnapVue side only because the voice was "disabled". Without microphone we can't use voice on SnapVue/WM6 side even with Skype installed. This is bad news for us and I hope that this can be fixed and released soon. Thanks.

There is BUG with that. I select GSM 6.10 as per your instruction and then press OK but if I go back to see what is selected I always see 8,000 Hz, Mono (2kb/s) instead GSM 6.10 I tried 3-4 times and the same so there is a BUG in selcting GSM 6.10

Just thought I would start a forum Dedicated to one location to document any Bugs that are known, and possible solutions. So if you have any known bugs, or if you have known tweaks, please post.
I have only had the JASJAR for 2 days now, and notice the following issues:
1. Significant amounts of my old software that was working on WM2003SE will not run on WM2005 for example:
SPB - The screen short cuts work fine, but the rest doesnt, no tweaks to PIE, no battery status, no "CLOSE" fix. This is a big problem, cause everything you open stays open unless you close it all via running programs.
KSE Fax - didnt work
Resco Explorer - didnt work
MSVC - didnt work, wont uninstall!!
Pocket Dictate - didnt work
Navman SmartST - didnt work, so didnt get to test the GPS port technology.
Flashdash - didnt work, per supplier working on a fix.
PHM Registry editor - didnt work
2. Text messages dont appear to be deleting, they come back on reset
3. Mortgage calculator due to VB Runtime not supported
4. Couldnt activate MS Reader even though its a microsoft product!!
5. No backup software which is a pain when you are installing software to test, and then cant install it, or your not certain its properly uninstalled
6. No VGA output, or cannot locate how to display on alternative screens such as data projectors. I got the back pack with the XDA II, but cannot find an option here.
7. Serious slow downs due to applications not closing
8. Seem to be a problem with the Blue tooth headset activating the voice command when its switched off.
9. calculator is still the basic model, not the advanced version you can get on your PC.
10. Cant find the registry hack to show the date not just the time.
11. Couldnt get avantgo to work.
12. Explorer still takes a very long time to explore the windows directory, and still doesnt allow a properties view on it.
Some of these might be because I simply couldnt be bothered tweaking some of these, or looking at possible fixes.
I can also see some serious memory issues and the need for a good SD card is going to be important. Speaking of which, allows the ability to automatically/select install to SD card, which is a bonus, dont need cabinstall anymore. Even so,
BUT OVERALL, I think its a nice device, only just released, nice and clear screen, great functionality, good WIFI without serious battery drains compared to what I am used to, BT Headset works usually. I am still to get the MMS and GPRS operational, and dont know anybody that can use 3G yet.
Synchronising music with WMP10 is a good feature, and it can be setup to synchronise your videos and pictures I think.
So, what do the rest of you think please list your bug bears, and if you see a fix great, and any suggested tweaks or software that does work on your devices would be great. Hoping for a long and fruitful post of consolidated tweaks and bugs.
resco file explorer on wm5
I upgraded to resco file explorer 2005 (half price if you last purchased 2003 version after 1 yr) . Try that version if the 2003 version does not work.
some of the stuff mentioned are not really bugs (resco explorer 2k3 works for me,slowdowns because of multiple apps running-> you need a task manager for this)
right now, I'm still waiting if this will ever support USB hosting (but I doubt if it is). I'm quite confuse with how tekguru came up with the conclusion that Universal can act as USB host. i tried inserting an external harddisk using the stock usb cable+female usb A+usb A, nothing happens
hey
i beg to differ...
the phm registry works just fine..
ive tweaked the date and time into the top bar thru registry
ive also changed the calendar softkey on the screen to run and display file explorer
resco explorer 2005 works just not the network part of it...
spb pocketplus with battery bar at the top of the screen works aswell
WM2005 Tweaks n bugs
Thats interesting, I will try to download updated versions then rather than those kept in my library and try again and will advise.
Does the "close" operation on SPB work ok?
Where did you locate the registry tweak?
I think I was using Resco 2003, a few have noted 2005 works ok.
Cheers
for closing app i bought this application called handyswitcher... i also know the close app in wisbar advance 2 also works i havent tried spb close app button..since i have the other two
spb 3
I downlaod and installed spb3. it seems to slow this thing down, but it does have the task manager.
the biggest bug I have is with skype, it just closes down suddenly?
magic button task manager is lightweight and its freeware. I'm having problems with WA2, I'll just install it later when a more stable build for wm5 will be available
avantgo installation
I have found that u can install Avantgo by doing the following:
1. Go to Avantgo website
2. Register
3. Download old wince version
4. install it on pc with pda connected and activesync active
5. upgrade to pocketpc version
6. do an activesync syncing (after choosing ur free channels)
thats it, u get avantgo on your system, but beware, it takes internal disk space...
Greetings
Nabil H
PS I guess M$ removed Avantgo from Rom because it offers now pocketmsn on universal and Avantgo competes with it, the old IE/Netscape story...
Can i ask you poeple with the new EXEC, or branded version, Looking at the pictures the microphone and speaker are on the same side as the LCD screen. If its closed (like a laptop) do you need to open it and spin the LCD round (like a tablet PC) in order to use it as a phone for a voice call
Thanks John

you dont need to open the lid. there's a Send/End call button at the side to make the call. problem is you dont have a way of knowing who's calling. that's where jabra bt800 or akon hbh660 BT headsets come in handy
thanks for the reply GM, that makes sence to use a Bt headset that shows caller ID, But as to answering it with the external buttons, and if the thing is closed wuth the screen inside, cam you hear the caller if you dont have a headset

Tekguru didn't come up with it - quite the opposite in fact. But he reported that ANOTHER site was reporting it worked
Microsoft Voice Command 1.5 has issues... it requires a manual install using the .cab file and seems to mostly work but causes problems with WM5.. and it won't uninstall.
also, I have found that you cannot copy text from a note and paste it into the body of an email using the tap and hold method. you must press fn+space bar to do it... this is a bug in WM5.

You can hear the caller anouncement with voice command installed.
the skype issue is caused by active sync
active sync turns itself on non-stop, I am constantly having to return to running programs and turn it off. skype needs memory, so it crashes when active sync is running.
Is there a registry tweak to stop the 'auto-on' feature of skype?
as for spb3, it does slow this down and make it buggy. I am losing it.
can't you just turn off auto sych into your AS?
NO Announcement with incoming calls. Its so low you cant hear sh..
no turning off active sync in options
the 'option' to turn off is simply gone.
You'd think it would be built in, but does anyone know if it will be possible to use the Wizard as a Windows Sideshow device in Vista? I got a horizontal dock for this thing just so I'd be able to run a gadget or two on it, but I'm surprised they didn't have it working out of the box ... with the popularity of the Wizard at Microsoft.
A quick search on google shows that there is quite a lot of interest for this.
IMO, it is almost certain this functionality will be added to Windows Mobile devices; lets just hope they don't limit it to WM6 devices.

Very Good idea, I got some old phones with 2.5" LCD working, it is now time to wake them!

Sideshow is a technology included with Windows Vista that allows for an external LCD to display widgets, even with the PC powered off. This allows you to see at a glance the weather, if you have e-mail, etc. It's primary use is in tiny LCDs on notebook covers, though if you could use your mobile for this, that would be really neat too.
MS is working on an app that does work on the Wizard, I have used a beta. It was very bugy but it worked.
How about this:
http://www.innobec.com/en/products.php
It adds a virtual display driver to your Windows (XP); this display is an activesync-connected PDA.
I have tried the trial version, and it appears to work (allthough a bit unstable, but I was using a bluetooth connection at the time).

I wasn't crapping on it, I think it looks cool. I wish it worked for me. I would rather have WM6 than a 320x240 extension to my desktop though. I already have a dual monitor setup.
Sidewindow can be alternative of sideshow but you have to run samurize plugins on that display to look like sideshow. Microsoft states that mobile devices can be used as sideshow with vista, i have tryed many ways and i have no success with this task
I saw one of the Microsoft Powerpoint presentations on their website presenting the sideshow feature and one of the devices among the usual picture frames and things was actually a Smartphone, it looks like in house at microsoft they have done it but jsut not yet for us. EDIT: See http://download.microsoft.com/downl...56b-d47a59388df0/pdc_2005_auxilarydisplay.ppt
Just came across this:

It works with ActiveSync 4.5 and with WM5 (even though the ppc executable only states 2003). Functionality is the same as the innobec software: it adds a virtual display driver.

Works on WiFi with Server 2003 and WM6 as the client. Very cool, not very usefull but very cool.
Could someone post the Pocket PC and Windows Vista files for ZoneScreen? Unfortunately, the author has removed all the files from his site in favor of the open source release (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zonescreen/) which only has the files for Windows XP.
Best uses for Sideshow
The best usage of this will be with remote controls for Media Center PC's. You'll be able to sit outside on the porch and browse your music files or other media without needing to see the TV screen. This way you can have speakers outside and you can play whatever music you want. Added functionality will be when they finally make the app for windows mobile devices so that you won't even need a third party remote. With 3G devices such as the Hermes (8525) you won't even need to connect via wifi or bluetooth. You'll see all your album art, receive feedback of "now playing" items, etc. It will turn your pda into an expensive 2-way touchpanel such as Crestron, AMX, or ELAN offer. I say screw the laptops. Check out this link and then imagine that on your PDA.
<http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/21/ricavisions-vista-mce-sideshow-remote-does-bluetooth-at-100-met/>
All those complaining about why it doesn't work on vista:
You need ActiveSync for this application which has been replaced with Mobile Device User Center, so it doesn't work. I hope there's an update on the way to make it work, because in partnership with konfabulator widgets, it's incredible. It had it built in a case, and it displayed all the systems specs via widgets.
Dear all,
I have been wondering if there is an application with messenger, which would have hermes frontcam as a webcam. After a long search I did not manage to find any apps like this. (with this i mean an app, which is running on the WM, NOT on PC).
However I came across one opinion about the thing that it could NOT be possible, since the heavy need of processing of the cam. I started thinking is that right, how much processing speed does it need to run a webcam with like only few pictures per second and a basic chat app running on msn messenger standard.
In my unprofessional opinion that should be possible, and if it is, why isnt anyone else interested in this kind of a thing, and why its not available.
Please somebody, do that kind of an application so I wouldnt have to learn WM PPC programming just because to do that.
or alternatively, prove me wrong.
/Henry
It is defenately possible. I use Web Camera plus and you phone will act as a perfect webcam. You can even choose if you want the front cam or normal cam.

Unfortunately that is working as a webcam for a messenger running on a PC only.. Not for messenger application running on my Hermes itself.

Ow, that i do not know. I'm not aware of an app that can do that, allthough i think it should be possible.
Maybe someone else can help you.
Im going to have to say that i doubt such a program exists or will exist.
MSN uses a lot of processing power to convert raw video into a streamed format.
Just because it is possible to do 3G video calls doesnt mean that MSN will use the same compression method.
What they'd first need to develop is voice calls through MSN. Not just voice clips.
hey, check out microsoft portrait, it has an app for both PC and PPC it is actually a development for voice/cam chat for portable devices, work on my wizard, however I don't have a hermes, so you will just need to try it and see, post back the results.

on my wizard it does have a drop down for the different cameras it detects, however the wizard only has one camera, so i believe it may bring up both cameras on the hermes

Hello,
I have set up my Shift now, but there are some questions left. So I hope you can help me.
1. As a tablet PC i tried to draw something with Paint.net. I did not work, because somehow the pen was not recognized. It acted like a normal mouse, which is being moved. But in the standard paint it works flawless. I can draw with the stylus without any problem.
Do you know, why this is not working in Paint.net? Or do you know an other working alternative?
2. I unlocked my German SnapVue and tried to install the Office 6.1 from modaco. It installs, but after a soft reset I can not start that applications.
Do you know an office mobile 6.1 version, which works with a German device?
3. If I have WLAN and the 3G Modem both enabled, how can I be sure, that the WLAN connection is used?
Can I change it somewhere in Vista, so that WLAN is only used, even if the 3G Modem is there?
4. When I am online under Vista only with the cellular line, which network type should I choose?
Home, Office or public network?
5. I have only a 5GiB data for 3G. What should I do to count the internet traffic of Vista and SnapVue together?
Till now these are my questions. Thx in advance
edit:
6. I thought it crashed and so I softreseted several times: Initial syncing of the calendar needs more than 30minutes!!!
How can this be? The rest syncs fast as usual.

Some points I am not sure, but did you try launching the .exe files of office within the PROGRAMME folder?
Maybe the links (verknuefungen) are pointing towards the default English folder.
About Wifi...I think if you dont use Internet Connection Sharing, Vista is bound to use Wifi. So make sure ICS is off and not running in the background. Better close it in SETTINGS>>> MEMORY (Einstellungen > Speicher..oder so)
the lack of a proper X button to close apps is bothering me the most.
X button on WM
I'm using a QuickMenu 2.7, which is free and provides a better menu system than standard WM, plus a few features, including X-button (configurable) and screen rotation.
Hope this helps.

If because of the low memory you just want the smallest X-button util, just use the HTC X-button, takesup little room and does the job!
1.
i installed it just now on my tablet though not shift but also with a pasive digitizer
and it works for me used 3.35 beta
3.
network connection->properties for the wanted network connection
choose tpc/ip->properties->advanced
and set metric yourself
lowest number will always be used over higher ones so if you set the wifi to lower it will be used when 3g is on too

Thanks. I might install that when I run out of space. I like the screen rotation on QuickMenu for reading whole pages in portrait mode. Is there a low memory solution for that too?

Hm, maybe I should ask the paint.net folks about help. There seems to be some incompatibility.

I informed myself about this feature and you are right. This lets me prioritize my connection.
But: I found out, that the Shift disconnect the 3G Modem from Vista (but not from Windows Mobile), if I enable WLAN. So I don't have to do anything, it works as it should.
About my 5th question:
Because the 3G Modem is only the connected over Windows Mobile to Vista, I can use any datacounter on Windows Mobile site and it counts all my traffic. I use BatteryStatus
I am very impressed with Quickmenu, expecially it's rotation facility. Many thanks for letting me know about this freeware program.
Was a little bored and thought I'd Remote my Win7 Netbook with the Xperia.
Had a laugh at the expense of some of my fellow Engineers/Computer Scientists.
Some figured it instantly, some had no clue, believes it really was running Win7, some thought it was themes etc of course, and came up with smart arse ideas of what it _must_ be
Bit I found the funniest is that the damn Xperia actually has a higher resolution that the netbook I was remoting with it.
Yes, that's really how big the damned Windows Live messenger is on my laptop(netbooks) 10" screen.
Yes, I photoshop on it, although I use a mouse that's worth more than the netbook itself (touchpads too cramped)
Yes, it's running Win7 and WinXP perfectly. (Infact it's also running Mac OSX 10.5.6 and Fedora 10 also, but those two partitions aren't shown in Win7.
nice ... but things will be tiny and even using the stylus will be tricky...
I tried several RDP progs... there is also a nice one with zoom ability found here in the forums called gamma.. but it requires a server/client files and not the windows RDP.
Good to know its working on win 7

The damn thing looks better on my Xperia than it does on the laptop itself. I just wish I could get WOL-over the internet working on my desktop at home so I could remote to it from work, but I just can't get the system to wake on the magic packets. Then I could do what i need to and then put it back to sleep.
which remote desktop software do u use?
Same question here, so far I found crappy RDP programs that don't allow me to type anything or have numlock always on.
Lol

Yep, standard RDP program, it works fine for me and I can type etc. What's the problem?
I have no idea!
I use the software with the original name 'Remote Desktop' (the flatscreen-with-satellite-dish-icon) right now. It does not allow me to type anything as soon as the connection is made. The soft keyboard as well as the fixed keyboard don't work.
The version I had before this (same software differrent version?) did allow me to type but always had the numlock on, without the option to turn it off.
There must me a right version out there

Ah yes! Those are the answers I'm looking for. Come on...
Does anybody have a link where you got the software you're using? I have the feeling there are several different versions out there...
Relax

I hope that wasn't sarcasm. Because although I keep an archive of all cabs I install, I can sometimes get forgetful about where I keep them.....
ofcourse forgot the smiley. sorry...
I'm really not sure what kind of software it is since it used to come with WM5. There are no commercial solutions that work with Microsoft RDP are there?
Good.

Well the one I'm using is connecting straight to Windows 7, I didnt install any sort of server, so yes, it connects to Microsoft Remote Desktop.
Apology accepted, my memory is suddenly becoming more clear
Here you go, enjoy.
i use a different program, but im guessing its all the same program with different names and sizes, if anyone has a problem with any of the other cabs and wants to give the one im using a try, just gimme a shout(i dnt wanna post anything on here b4 i get the boot..lol, i believe the program is free though)
i basically work from my phone nowadays by the way...
The version from alias_neo is working much better! I am able to use correct keyboard functions. Thanks for that, I'm glad you have such flexible memory
Lakeside00, what kind of rdp tool are you using?

r u on a router? on newer routers, u have to remote log on to router, then issue the WOL command inside the router.

Yep, I'm on a router, but I had the relevent port forwarded through it. I have no way to send the WOL packets from my routers remote administration page.... as far as I know.
