Was a little bored and thought I'd Remote my Win7 Netbook with the Xperia.
Had a laugh at the expense of some of my fellow Engineers/Computer Scientists.
Some figured it instantly, some had no clue, believes it really was running Win7, some thought it was themes etc of course, and came up with smart arse ideas of what it _must_ be
Bit I found the funniest is that the damn Xperia actually has a higher resolution that the netbook I was remoting with it.
Yes, that's really how big the damned Windows Live messenger is on my laptop(netbooks) 10" screen.
Yes, I photoshop on it, although I use a mouse that's worth more than the netbook itself (touchpads too cramped)
Yes, it's running Win7 and WinXP perfectly. (Infact it's also running Mac OSX 10.5.6 and Fedora 10 also, but those two partitions aren't shown in Win7.
nice ... but things will be tiny and even using the stylus will be tricky...
I tried several RDP progs... there is also a nice one with zoom ability found here in the forums called gamma.. but it requires a server/client files and not the windows RDP.
Good to know its working on win 7

The damn thing looks better on my Xperia than it does on the laptop itself. I just wish I could get WOL-over the internet working on my desktop at home so I could remote to it from work, but I just can't get the system to wake on the magic packets. Then I could do what i need to and then put it back to sleep.
which remote desktop software do u use?
Same question here, so far I found crappy RDP programs that don't allow me to type anything or have numlock always on.

Yep, standard RDP program, it works fine for me and I can type etc. What's the problem?
I have no idea!
I use the software with the original name 'Remote Desktop' (the flatscreen-with-satellite-dish-icon) right now. It does not allow me to type anything as soon as the connection is made. The soft keyboard as well as the fixed keyboard don't work.
The version I had before this (same software differrent version?) did allow me to type but always had the numlock on, without the option to turn it off.
There must me a right version out there

If you want to stick strictly with VNC, go for the new PT Pocket Office.

i seem to remember reading somewhere that it only works with an unmodified pocket internet explorer. It certainly works on my vario II.

bandwidth for me isnt a concern, unlimited data plan plus a 6megx768k dsl line into my house... but do commercial solutions offer the same amount of control as VNC? just curious cause i do run a private FTP server out of my house and like the ability of total remote control over my pc when i am away... i believe i tried logmein.com about 4-5 months ago and dumped it, dont remember why, maybe cause i had to pay, but thats when i found a beta ppc version of RealVNC and have used that ever since.

PT offers built-in file transfer in the latest Pocket Office version and the author also promises clipboard synchronization. It's also much faster and consumes about 3 times less bandwidth.
Hopefully, I'll be able to publish my roundup of all remote access solutions the day after tomorrow - I'm still trying to hack the H/PC .NET RDC client (it's WAY more advanced than the native one on the Pocket PC) to the PPC.

What's exactly the problem? Do NOT trey to use it with RealVNC servers - it won't work. Use PTeSVNC instead.
Also, the config options are a bit overwhelming at first - I'll, of course, elaborate a LOT on them in my forthcoming roundup.

You'd think it would be built in, but does anyone know if it will be possible to use the Wizard as a Windows Sideshow device in Vista? I got a horizontal dock for this thing just so I'd be able to run a gadget or two on it, but I'm surprised they didn't have it working out of the box ... with the popularity of the Wizard at Microsoft.
A quick search on google shows that there is quite a lot of interest for this.
IMO, it is almost certain this functionality will be added to Windows Mobile devices; lets just hope they don't limit it to WM6 devices.

Sideshow is a technology included with Windows Vista that allows for an external LCD to display widgets, even with the PC powered off. This allows you to see at a glance the weather, if you have e-mail, etc. It's primary use is in tiny LCDs on notebook covers, though if you could use your mobile for this, that would be really neat too.
MS is working on an app that does work on the Wizard, I have used a beta. It was very bugy but it worked.
How about this:
http://www.innobec.com/en/products.php
It adds a virtual display driver to your Windows (XP); this display is an activesync-connected PDA.
I have tried the trial version, and it appears to work (allthough a bit unstable, but I was using a bluetooth connection at the time).

I wasn't crapping on it, I think it looks cool. I wish it worked for me. I would rather have WM6 than a 320x240 extension to my desktop though. I already have a dual monitor setup.
Sidewindow can be alternative of sideshow but you have to run samurize plugins on that display to look like sideshow. Microsoft states that mobile devices can be used as sideshow with vista, i have tryed many ways and i have no success with this task
I saw one of the Microsoft Powerpoint presentations on their website presenting the sideshow feature and one of the devices among the usual picture frames and things was actually a Smartphone, it looks like in house at microsoft they have done it but jsut not yet for us. EDIT: See http://download.microsoft.com/downl...56b-d47a59388df0/pdc_2005_auxilarydisplay.ppt
Just came across this:
http://www.zoneos.com/index.htm
It works with ActiveSync 4.5 and with WM5 (even though the ppc executable only states 2003). Functionality is the same as the innobec software: it adds a virtual display driver.

Works on WiFi with Server 2003 and WM6 as the client. Very cool, not very usefull but very cool.
Could someone post the Pocket PC and Windows Vista files for ZoneScreen? Unfortunately, the author has removed all the files from his site in favor of the open source release (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zonescreen/) which only has the files for Windows XP.
Best uses for Sideshow
The best usage of this will be with remote controls for Media Center PC's. You'll be able to sit outside on the porch and browse your music files or other media without needing to see the TV screen. This way you can have speakers outside and you can play whatever music you want. Added functionality will be when they finally make the app for windows mobile devices so that you won't even need a third party remote. With 3G devices such as the Hermes (8525) you won't even need to connect via wifi or bluetooth. You'll see all your album art, receive feedback of "now playing" items, etc. It will turn your pda into an expensive 2-way touchpanel such as Crestron, AMX, or ELAN offer. I say screw the laptops. Check out this link and then imagine that on your PDA.
<http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/21/ricavisions-vista-mce-sideshow-remote-does-bluetooth-at-100-met/>
All those complaining about why it doesn't work on vista:
You need ActiveSync for this application which has been replaced with Mobile Device User Center, so it doesn't work. I hope there's an update on the way to make it work, because in partnership with konfabulator widgets, it's incredible. It had it built in a case, and it displayed all the systems specs via widgets.
You want to know how to run Windows Vista on Athena? Well, read on!
Firstly, is not really installing the Vista on Athena, i uses the terminal client services to remote control my desktop.
This is the application i use, it's the TCS in WM6, at least 10x better then the original WM5 one. Simply install it and run it, you will have to have knowledge of remote desktop to set this up. I will not try to cover here because there are some ways. Do a search on the net and you will find lots of into.
Below i attach the WM6 TCS and a screen shot of my Vista Ready Athena!

Hey Wu. Can you or anyone else who has successfully got the WM6 Remote Desktop to work on the Athena please give me some guidance?
1st. Thanks for the link Slave 1.....the web based 'LogMein' works a treat!
Wu..I done a clean install of XP Pro (supports TCS and Remote Desktop) and I installed all necessary components for XP & Remote Desktop. Activated 'Allow users....to Remote Desktop' etc.. My problem is not knowing what to put in the 'Domain' section in the WM6 Remote Desktop application. Is Domain the same as IP? Forgive my ignorance on this...I'm a noob to this..
If it's IP info required for this part, which one? I think I have a static IP address, but am not sure. When I check my IP over the web it is different to what shows up for my PC??!!
I'm confused now. This I believe is my only glitch now. Help please. 'LogMeIn.com' works fine, but it's implementation leaves a lot to be desired and all of you guys seem to really like the WM6 style.
Pointers please.

you don't really need to type in anything in the domain, you can leave it blank, the most important part is the first one, the computer name, you have to type in the IP address of your computer, or your actual computer name if you are connecting on a local network. check your computer IP, and just put it in there, it should work.

im actually not bad with it, if only the keys were a tad wider, so i wouldnt press two of them at the same time

I applaud your efforts, but seriously, that's just weird man.
have to admit, the only reason I would do this would be for the geek factor of it all...
and those are the reasons that I dream of installing a web server on a toaster.
I don't think I'd use the hardware keyboard any more than I'd use a web server.
have it admit, it's an intriguing idea, though... for the geek factor... to learn to do it...

Thanks. Usu ppl think it's a bad idea, but what about when ya'd like something a bit more "remote controlesque" to control your iTunes? I'd rather use my tele's keyboard, rather than walk around w/ my full sized bluetooth keyboard, y'know? Anyway, can anyone point me in the right direction? Maybe a prog already out, or a lil' tutorial on writing a prog to do this?

im not knocking your idea at all.
but in my opinion that would be horrible. i've never encountered a time in my life where a pc didnt have a keyboard, and as much as i love the mogul FOR it's full keyboard, it's still a noghtmare to type on it.
im actually not bad with it, if only the keys were a tad wider, so i wouldnt press two of them at the same time

How about for use with a Playstation 3 system? Using the controller to type is a drag.
ive seen my brother control his mac/itunes with a nokia bluetooth enabled phone before so im sure you're not too far off
You know, if the mogul could be made as an extension to the pc, and vice-versa, it would be amazing. Most people don't really need, or know what to do with, this type of functionality. But then again, lets admit -- we are not regular people, are we? This is a great idea on the edge of pioneering a host of new posibilities of inter-device integration.
I often will watch movies, type on msn (wishing i had a webcam), etc... why not save ourselves the money to buy all this extra hardware, and look for a solution that can use the resources we already have?
Now, that being said, it is going to be very hard to program and/or find someone to program this type of functionality for us. Firstly, they must be very good at coding ppc AND pc apps. Secondly, these would be low-level functions or would require ingenious workarounds.
But, as my two cents, have you ever thought of using vnc to do what you needed? Maybe it wouldn't be as 'clean' as you might like it, but it could effectively do what you needed, and can work via wifi, bluetooth, EVDO/1X, and even USB. Beyond that, i might look at programs like WM5torage which uses the USB port to emulate a USB device (in this case a storage drive).
Good luck, and great idea!
EDIT: Try re-openning this thread in the Dev section, maybe you might get some feedback there?
You'd need a blueooth HID driver if i remember right, that'd be a decent place to start...

I'd love to use my Mogul as a bluetooth keyboard for my Asus R2H.

Hey, Everyone,
I would like to take on a lil' pet project (but, 'could be a group effort). What I'd like to do is use my Mogul's hardware keyboard as a USB and/or bluetooth keyboard on Windows XP/Vista and *nix machines. Any ideas on where to start, or H3LL!, does anyone know of a prog already? Y'figure you can use your Titans as a webcam, modem, WiFi router, and flash drive, so why not use the keyboard?
Thanks, Everyone.

This prog was actually a very good find. 'More convenient than RDP'in' the
Desktop to control music remotely, but having this knowledge makes this link,

irrelevant, since I'd like to use the PPC's keyboard, solely, @ the desktop machine. Thanks for all o'the help, though. I'd actually gone ahead and d/l'd Salling Clicker.
But, still, does anyone have any other ideas, or want to work on it?
fyi, the fact that it doesn't list compatibility with wm6 doesn't mean that it's not.

No, I have it already, and know from experience that it won't run on my Mogul. I'd thought it unnecessary to mention it since I'm mainly lookin' for hardware keyboard functionality, anyway.
I would consider porting over an existing solution, ie Synergy ( http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ ).
this would be a good idea to use with a media center PC... I've been searching for a good solution to no avail (VNC isn't fast enough)
I would love to use it as a keyboard with my PS3, or 360. The PS3 would probably be easier, as I'm not sure if 360 accepts Bluetooth.

Bump....I wouldn't mind using it on my PS3 as well.

Ya hear that, developers out there? The ppl want to use their WM* devices' H/W keyboards on PCs and consoles. I'm sure you guys can get it done.
Yes or No? I have remote controller and while it works good, it doesnt recognize the slide keyboard, idk if realvnc or uvnc will, but they're more universal and all my machines already have uvnc on them
Are you talking about a viewer/client or a server on your phone?
RealVNC's website says they have a WM viewer, but there don't seem to be any links to it and it appears to be a commercial product. I don't see any evidence that UltraVNC make a WM viewer.
There are a couple of fully workable free viewers around. Search for vnc-E4_2_7b4-arm_pocketpc_viewer or check out http://dotnetvnc.sourceforge.net/.

There was also a beta 5: vnc-E4_2_7b5-arm_pocketpc_viewer
Here you go...
This version works fine. I've been using it for quite some while now.
awesome, and this supports the proprietary keyboard on the tp2? Its a serious pain in the ace having to pull up the char. map that this remote im using now needs
Got it running perfect, exactly what I was lookin for, thanks for the help guys
Police Scanner for Win Mo?
Ive seen it for both the droid and the (stupid POS) iphone, theres gotta be a scanner for windows mobile, anyone seen anything?
I've been making a couple posts about UltraVNC mobile over at their website, but I doubt any of the developers really have a Windows Mobile phone to mess around with it. I have the RealVNC one, pre-paid-app version. It seems to be the best. I wish UltraVNC did develop a mobile version because I can't view my secondary monitor on the VNC viewer I'm using now.
Also, just as a note, there are VNC servers out there for your phone so you can use a VNC viewer on your PC to control your phone, but I haven't found one that was always stable. This one seems to be the best bet, but now it's a paid-app.

i tried but i kept getting this error: unable to connect to host: connection timed out (10060)
i was able to connect from pc to pc but not wm to pc. host runs on Win 7 with Outpost firewall. I already allow it on my firewall and forwarded those ports on my router. if you or anyone knows the solution, please tell me. thx.
on your windows 7 pc run uvnc server, Not realvnc. It doesnt work idk why. set it up to recieve the user, pass, and to recieve remote input and then connect using wm realvnc. works on all my machines
I found this a while back it seems to work fine just unzip and copy over to your SD card then run the exe. I personally copied it to my programs folder then created a shortcut to in my start menu.
