I'm ashamed to even be asking this question.... - Mogul, XV6800 General

I lost the settings for my #777 connection and can not for the life of me remember what the username, password, and domain settings are supposed to be. I know that they are posted somewhere, but I've been searching for hours with no luck.

OK, feel free to kick me now.
I forgot about that WIKI thing.

Questions: O2 PAYG GPRS broken? MP3 player volume?

Hey,
Since finding this site a few days ago and using the unlocker tool, the forums have proven to be a very useful source of answers to most of the questions I've come up with. I've got a few questions that I haven't been able to thus far find answers for, maybe someone can answer them...
1. O2 (UK)'s GPRS PAYG service: Trying to get the settings from the O2 web site (from various phones), it suggests that I use the following settings:
Access Point Name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
username: payandgo uk (I presume the 'uk' bit is meant to be included)
password: password
IP address: 193.113.200.195
However, whenever I try to connect, it tries twice and then gives an unable to connect for unknown reason error. I used to have random trouble connecting to GPRS on my old Nokia 3300, so the first few times, I just put it down to chance whether I'd get onto it or not, but after trying many times this week, I still can't get on it.
I can't see any info on O2's site other than which settings to use, and they don't seem to be working. Any ideas/suggestions/additional settings?
2. Secondly, I've been using Windows Media Player to play MP3s - thankfully I found through searching that you can turn off the screen! About 2-3 hours of playback before a recharge seemed awful!
Anyway, my question is: Is there a way to override the master phone volume setting for MP3 playback? Perhaps 3rd party software would allow this? I don't like the idea that I have to turn the master volume up in order to hear songs -- thus turning up all the other sounds (beeps, application alerts, etc). I know that you can disable beeps and stuff, and I have done, but if I put the volume onto 'vibrate', I can't have sound playback.
I have another question but it's slipped my mind for now, so I'll post that at another point. Thanks in advance also.

I don't think the 'uk' should be in the username.
Username should be payandgo.
That was my first assumption, and I've already tried it. I wish the solution was that simple
Take a look here - it has the different settings dependant on GPRS WAP or GPRS Email/Web: http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
Hmm, thanks for the link, kind of helpful... I just discovered that specifying the IP was wrong. My assumption was that the specify IP box was for the gateway as suggested in the settings on that site, but obviously it was for my own IP. I removed the specific IP and set it to obtain one automatically and now it works...
Hmm(2), on closer inspection, it connects now, but I don't seem to be able to access anything...
OK. Good
Another question
Oh yeah, I remember one of my other questions now...
Is there any way to stop the phone dialling window from popping up every time I send an SMS message? As soon as I get a confirmation service reply from O2, the dialer window pops up.
Any particular recommendations on a WiFi SD card? Is it true that the one with built-in 256MB storage is NOT compatible?

On the second point, I can confirm that it is not compatible. The WIFI only option should be OK though. You might want to look at this thread for more information.
ANOTHER question
I'm a bit narked. I took the sim outa my SPV to put into an older phone to take to a gig with me (not worth risking such a fine peice of kit!), when I got home, and put the SIM back in, ALL MY DATA HAD GONE !
I've put it down to experience now, and started fresh from scratch , I guess my fault was not enabling flight mode before I removed the SIM? I didn't get a full re-install as if it were hard reset, just EVERYTHING (pictures, files, notes, appointments) had all gone!
In a panic, I tried the permanent save/restore feature (which sadly, I hadn't already used), and annoyingly, it restored the previous owners info! I managed to clear out his contact list, tasks and owner info, as well as putting my own personal settings back, and even though I've manually trapsed through the calender removing appointments, occasionally, I'm getting reminders for appointments that don't seem to be in the calendar!
So, my next question... is there a way to clear the whole calendar in one go? Or, is there a way to make these seemingly invisible entries to show up or get a list of them? I've tried all the calendar views and I've gone back as far as 2002 on the calendar looking for entries...

Proxy Settings MIA

Help...
I have a HTC 3600 (handy as I'm posting in this forum ) and I have been trying to connect it to my work wireless setup. This is fairly locked down and has a hidden SSID and requires me to enter credentials (user name, password) to access the web. I can successfully connect to the Wi-Fi, I am issued with IP address etc but can't then take the next step to connect it to the web.
I have found an area to add a proxy with username and password - I do this but still nothing. One odd thing is that when I then go back to try editing the proxy settings 9 times out of 10 it has vanished and I have to create it again!!
This is causing much hair pulling!
Any direction/help in this would be great as I am now a little stuck.
I am on AX3L v3.0.9 build.
Cheers
Update
I have found out that if there are two settings in the connections summary - such as 'My Work Network' and in my case 'etisalat UAE' the proxy setting never gets lost. Is this a quirk, is there something that I am not understanding (I know the obv. answer to the last question is yes!)
This now brings me to my nest challenge which is how do you arrange these connections? What I mean is that if I am at work/home and have a wi-fi link active how do I get the device to pick this in preference to a GPRS connection which it should use at all other times? I have tried looking for some kind of guide so I can work through this my self but no luck so far..... if anyone knows of such a thing or can point me in the right direction then please reply to this.
Cheers

HTCs response to Hero not compatible with Voda UK and Screen gap Issue

The great thing about the Hero is the cool widgets and the Facebook/contacts intergration. Not all of these widgets and features are compatable with Vodafone UK. Also many have commentend about the gap between the screen and the casing. I asked HTC about these two issuse. Here's the response:
New Response From [ Pete (Europe Support (Tech)) ]
I am afraid that the vodafone rep is wrong about not blocking ports. everyone using the Hero on vodafone UK is reporting the same issues with the widgets so they do indeed have other ports blocked. in fact i know for a fact that there are more than just that port blocked as they also block the common VPN ports, the WAP ports and certain others to prevent things like MSN...
as for the screen issue, i have heard of a couple of other people that have this, and it seems that the seal may not have fitted correctly. That would be best to send it back, or i am sure that we could fix it later as well.
best regards,
HTC Europe Support
What are we going do now about the Vodafone issue? I might call Vodafone and ask them.

I spoke to them, they don't recognise it as an issue. They'll probably say its not a supported handset so bog off. Give it a try though Mansn you never know. Tip for ya, when you call 191 select the option for blackberry. That'll get you through to the propper geeky techs with beards and all! Any other option and you'll end up talking to a Pat or Maureen who will struggle to understand what the heck you're on about.
If these things don't work then there is no point in even owning a Hero. Might as well by a Magic for half the price.
I just called 191. Where is the crackberry option?
1. Balance, Bills, PUK code
2. Lost stolen, making and receiving calls
3. Help with broadband and landlines
4. Less than 7 days, want to return it
I was told by the last guy i spoke to to select the blackbury option. You're right, there isn't an option. Anyway, just got through to a Maureen who has put me in the que for a tech dept.. 20 minute delay apparently.. Maureen did say "that phone is not supported, we can't help you"
I think the only way round it would be another VPN from Voda to bypass the blocks. O2 do that for getting round the data compression.
Will they provide an alternative APN so we can use the Hero to its full potential? might find out in 18 minutes........ TBC
Just spoke to the beards at Voda.
They have contridicted the HTC comments and say they do not block ports. Bottom line "this is not a supported handset. Is there anything else I can help you with today?"
I've discovered a half work around. The default APN is "internet" with username web password web.
Change this to APN wap.vodafone.co.uk (overwrite the word internet)
password wap, username wap.
Now the facebook and flickr pages load. All is good apart from the twitter app. That still doesn't work. I've found the internet speeds so much faster. On the internet APN I got half a meg, now on wap.vodafone.co.uk i'm now getting nearly 2 meg! Both APNs use the inclusive 500mb BTW.
so.. we're getting somewhere, just gotta sort twitter, there are other widgets on the market place which do work in the meantime.
that's nice of them.
Basically "you didn't buy it from us, bugger off!!"
i suppose that they may have changed things, but when i used to work for them, they definitely blocked some ports on the internet APN. 500 and 9201/9202 were definitely blocked at least, and port 80 was blocked on the business VPN access point!
And besides, if you can connect over Wifi but not on the Vodafone APNs then it just proves that they ARE blocking ports and they just haven't got the guts to admit it.
at least with T-Mobile they only block ports through their proxy...turn the proxy off and all is open!
Damn glad i chose to stay with t-mobile and not change to vodafone!
and yikes, everything even works on Three!! come on Vodafone, have the guts to admit it or just open the damn ports up!!
Why are any of these things not using standard HTTP over port 80?
I may be forced to move to Vodafone through work. What exactly is going to stop working?
As an aside, how is their 3g network compared to O2?

Hey. Having the same problem with Vodafone too, but seems as though it's just Twitter that's being the bugger with me, facebook & flickr have been fine so far.
I have tried various other Twitter widgets from market place but they either won't refresh tweets or I can't update my tweets. Is there one you would recommend that hopefully does both so I dont have to have 2 Twitter widgets running??
Thanks!
Ant!

There is no risk at all, you can change it back. from the home screen menu>settings>Access Point Names>Vodafone Post-Pay ISP (or pre-pay depeding on what you got> change the NAME, USERNAME and PASSWORD fields.

I have done that - thank you. Does this now mean that my Facebook shortcut will show the latest update when I click on it, or is there something more that it will do? (Sorry to be a doofus!)

Blimey. Done that and now I have the thousand or so Facebook friends in the phone too! *Blinks* It's going to make scrolling through a bit of a 'mare - especially as the 'scroll down by letter' thing on the right of the screen is so difficult to operate...
EDIT: Most of the new Facebook contacts aren't showing the photo. Do I need to do each of these individually, or is there a way of doing them all at once?
Ok, maybe I am being thick, but I got a HTC Hero today on a Vodafone pay monthly tariff with unlimited internet (ok 500Mb)
The internet wont work at all though.
Can anyone post the full list of their working connection details please?
Thanks

Apn name = wap.vodafone.co.uk
User name = wap
Password = wap
I just tried the wap settings, and the internet is now loads faster! That's great! However ****ter still doesn't work, and facebook sort of works, but not quite ... very strange!
Thanks for the help. Internets working now!
SMS won't send though. I have spent ages looking for the settings page but can't find it.
Anyone know where the message centre number is so I can check its right for Vodafone?
Cheers
Zippyioa
It seems as though Vodafone is doing something about the issue. A post on androidforums from mobiles.co.uk seems to indicate this:
Hi there,
Hero will be returning to Vodafone in the near future but we are unable to sell it currently due to some technical issues that came up - nothing serious, but we had to pull it from the site as a precaution.
Hope this helps,

In the old days the only way around port blocking was to use a VPN on a nonstandard port at home. Then VPN to that to use your home connection.

Rogers Dream Won't Get Data Network

Hey guys,
I have been having a very annoying issue as of late I'd like to resolve. I have been trying to flash a new ROM onto my device since thanks to Haykuro we finally can have TMO G1 ROMs on the device however I am having an issue. I follow the instructions step by step, and yet when all is said and done I get into the OS and I have no data network. I can send SMS, make calls, however I cannot check my email or surf the net.
This is very annoying, and I have tried both Cyanogen ROMs, and the JacXROM, and neither one works. I am guessing this is a radio firmware not working, however it is the latest one for Rogers I have found so I don't see how that is the issue (and it is works for others)
Does anyone have any ideas?

Did you check apn settings?
Because if your not in the us you will have to config the settings to your provider.
Does anyone happen to know the APN settings if that is what I have to do? I have no idea what to put in there.

I am not going to look exactly where it is stated...but do a search you should find the settings. These settings were posted somewhere in this thread, I believe somewhere in the middle, it was posted like 5 times.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544654
edit: Sure esmith, make me look like an idiot, lol, guess you posted like 2 sec. before me. Although you were more direct, I was hoping not to spoon feed the answer, cause they will ask other questions again without searching.
For some reason whenever I search I always get crap results.. But just so you know I posted that and then said "Duh, I'm an idiot I should look for it" and I saw the big APN thread and found a post a couple pages back. Didn't work though, so I will try esmiths settings.

Bell APN for a Samsung Discover- SGH-S730M

I've seen this question asked similarly before on this forum, and countless others. I am unable to reply to those posts on this forum, due to my noob status {whaa whaaa). My problem is this, the info posted everywhere.... Bell.ca, xda forum and about 300 google searched pages, is incompatable with my phone. To be clear, I have a stock ics 4.0.4 rom, rooted with cwr 2013-05-03.22.28.52.
The APN settings that I have to fill out are as follows:
Name-
APN-
Proxy-
Port-
Username-
Password-
Server-
MMSC-
MMS Port-
MCC-
MNC-
Authentication Type-
Apn Type-
Apn Protocol-
Bearer-
Most of these options i have found answers for, some have many answers, the Bell site it's self has mistakes and hasnt been updated in over a year... The two options I can find anywhere is Authentication type, and Bearer,, also there are conflicting reports as to the correct MMSC. Anyone out there have the jam to figure this out? I've dedicated at least 4 hours of solid attention to finding this answer, and I came up short.
Eternal gratitude to anyone who can offer assistance.
