I am holding of on updating my o2 XDA to the Windows Mobile 2003 version from Jeff's Kitchen, because I want to make sure I can keep using my main application: TomTom Navigator.
According to tomtom.com, version 2.24 should work with Windows Mobile 2003. Has anyone verified this with the 4.00.05 from Jeff's Kitchen?
As the maps are of course stored on an SD card, will it be safe to use TomTom with WM2003 due to the "erase card" issue?
Thanks!
well if you have a SD flash reader for your pc you could always backup the maps before trying
if you dont have a flash reader for your pc and would like one
they come in external versions
http://www.sandisk.com/consumer/sixinone.asp
and internal versions
http://www.apacer.com/apacer_english/product_html/embedded_card_reader20.asp
since your sd cards could get flushed down the toilet and i'm sure a empty flash card would be less expensive then a sd card with maps on
it would be a good thing to back them up no matter what
Yes it will work since I've used all the 4.x ROMs and the first things which get installed is Tomtom 2.24!
It works perfectly!
And you can update your ROM without losing the info on your SD card. So after the ROM update you only have to install the tomtom software and it will find the map(s) on your SD card automatically.
About the erase bug: I never experienced it with any of the 4.x ROMs. So no info about that.
works fine on 4.00.01 update

You could use the lock switch on the SD-card too...
Yes, I thought of that, but:
- I figured that maybe TomTom needs to write to the SD as well (save some settings in or around map data)
- As the switch is merely a software thing as far as I know (a device "should not write" to the card when the switch is on), I wonder if a faulty ROM is still able to erase the card

i does work perfectly? hmmm. i use 4.00.01 and tomtom 2.24 but have the following problem:
when i start it it always says: "gps position unreliable" or something in that kind. but the sat signal is ok. i have to go to "card view" and not "navigator view" to make it work so it can find your position. then i go back to "navigator view" and i works flawlessly.
any idea?

Never had that problem, sorry...
me neither mine works fine as it always has done just like on ppc2002
I am using the old 2003 version that was on her about 6 weeks ago, I have a "slippery" version of tomtom v2 and that works fine on my XDA i just removed the sd card with the maps on it, upgraded to 2003 then reinstalled my v2 put back in the SD card and thats it. It all works as it did befor

Hi,
<you can skip the first paragraph if you are not interested in background info.>
I recently upgraded from Touch ELF to Touch Diamond US. I got TOMTOM 7.45 pre-installed with US maps. I have been going though xda forum and realized that in case I mess up something or change ROM, I can get the TOMTOM app from the forums but not the maps as it will against xda policies.
<here is the actual question>
How can I backup TOMTOM maps from my phone? I see a maps folder on my internal storage, but do I need to backup some other files as well?
Thanks in advance.
Hi -
I don't have an answer, but curious where you got the Diamond with Tomtom 7 and US maps. I didn't think TomTom released US maps for Ver. 7.
" I got TOMTOM 7.45 pre-installed with US maps"
Thanks,
Mike
AFAIK, the license for the maps is stored in one of the meta files in the map folder.
I have been able to re-flash my UK Diamond several times (leaving the map folder untouched) without ever needing to enter my license information again.
TomTom Backup
You really don't need to do anything as said above.
As long as you can find a .cab of TomTom or use a ROM that includes it (as long as it's the same version as the one you're using), then the maps will work.
The maps can easily be backed up by finding them (I'm guessing) on your internal storage, and copying them to your computer. In there, there is a .dct file, and that's what unlocks the maps for your phone.
I hope this helps.
I have no .dct files in my maps folders, unless they are hidden files I can't see. There are map files with extensions .dat, .cfg, .bmp, .ov2, .inc, .mac, .mid and .pna. Files of these types are the present for all the maps I have loaded.
But no .dct files...
Hi everyone.
Please can you help me to install tomtom 7 on my HD/Blackstone. This is my first PDA/phone like this , and I am kinda struggling.
I have downloaded the Tomtom 7.910.9185, with maps of western europe 1gb.815.2024
The package I downloaded had 3 versions of tomtom7 compressed.
QVGA black, QVGA blue, VGA black.
I am now lost, I have read about cab files, sending to the root file of the storage card, but I cant figure this out.
Is there an idiots guide, (I am a total newb and Idiot) showing how to do this. Maybe one of you guys has a webpage or thread with it all easily put down.
Your help would be most appreciated please.
Rgds

Does it have bigger POI icons?
Cause i've installed QVGA , it's full screen and looks nice but hte POI icons are little.
Or maybe that just tomtom 7
Hi,
I don't know if you already found how to do this but i will try to give you a simple guide:
1. copy the file VGA black.cab to your SD card root.
2. click on the file once (a .cab file can be compared to a .exe file on a pc)
3. After install, copy your map western europe 1gb.815.2024 to the root of your SD-card. Make sure that when you open the folder of the map, you should see files and not another map otherwise it won't work!
This should get you up and running tomtom 7.
POIs are small 'cause the TT version available run quite correctly on HD, but IT'S NOT the right version for HD, simply it doesn't already exists
Thanks,
Have managed to get the program to install, but no hope with the maps.. Keeps saying they aint activated..

So the problem ain't the software itself, is the map activation. You have 2 choices:
1: click here http://www.tomtom.com and have your VISA ready, or...
2: MOD EDIT....WAREZ ARE NOT ALLOWED HERE

Tomtom navigation - where to install maps
Hi all,
I'm spend a lot of time on many forums to find how to propp install Tomtom navigation (I'm using Tomtom 7).
Installing a Tomtom program is so simple but the maps thats another storry.
All informations what I'm found was telling you need to create a folder "maps" in root of the memory card and than copy all files from your PC folder of actual map there. That information is OK just if you want to use a single map.
Problem is if you want use more maps than one.Yo just simple can't coppy contens of two or more maps into the same forder.Or if you try to copy whole folders with maps into yours "maps"folder on your card the Tomtom not see that.
So what to do ???It's really simple.
1. You do not need to create the "maps" folder
2. All what you need to do is copy whole maps folders into the
" My Documents " folder on your storage card (not on" My Device " memory !!! )
Its work perfect,I'm use more than 3 maps (UK+IR, Western+Central EU, Eastern EU,...)
So maybe this info help some people whos need more maps.
Richard
I purchased the map from TOMTOM website, but when I tried to install it using tomtom home, it doesn't allow me to download

Hi stevenyu24, vidamusic et al with TT7 issues. Suggest you read through the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432410&highlight=TomTom and pay special attention to bmcconalogue post. All your problems should be solved there.
Best regards,
Just for you guys,
I have Tomtom Home 2.6 installed on my macbook and I can get MapShare working free with my TomTom navigator 7 installed on my Touch HD.
Just connect it as a Disk Device then when TomTom asks which device to use, choose the one on the Storage Card (the map is on the storage card and the app is on the internal storage)
Then, you will get free maps' correction !
Managed to install tomtom navigator on my TD2 but i think im missing the 7 digit postcode file as im only able to search using the first part of the post code.....ive tried this fix with no luck,
http://www.tomtom.com/support/category.php?ID=1&Language=1&query=postcode&FID=9852
anyone else have this problem? and resolved it?
Which TT do you have installed? 6 or 7?
Can't seem to get 6 working on my Topaz. After instal it keeps giving me a memory access violation message.
Any tips?
i think that map has to be a compatible one as well to work with the full postcode but not sure
you need to have a ZIP folder in the root of where your map is.
eg i have great britain on my sd card so there is a folder called ZIP in the root of the card with 2 files - Great_Britain.Postal (8.4mb) and SETUP.DAT (306b)
can't remember where I got those files, gpsunderground I think

What version of TomTom?
I have just ordered a MicroSD card my my D2 and am looking to install TomTom. What version did you use?
What do you think of TomTom as a sat nav on WM6? I know there are some other funky packages out there such as CoPilot and Navigon, but I'm not sure which is the best. I use a standard TomTom which I quite happy with, but I'm always on the look out for new stuff.
This is my first foray into a WM device, so I'm interested to see what it can do.
Full Postcode Entry on TT6/7
Thought I'd post my solution as I tried others in this post with no luck. I copied the zip folder to: my windows mobile based device/program files/navigator and : my windows mobile based device/storage card.
This does the trick on my HTC P3600. Cheers, Chris.

I have Navigator 7.9 installed (VGA version), and it is running flwlessly. Much better than iGO8 in my opinion...
I now have TomTom 7.9 working in a WM 6.5 ROM. It seems to work much better and you don't need to the audio fix
TT7 / TT6 ZIP Postcode Folder
ZIP File attached. Transfer to main root of storage card
Have tried all of these solutions but no luck with full postcode .
I've tried copied it to the folder with the maps in, the root folder of the sd card, the folder with tomtom installation in it too. No luck at all. Does the map name have to be the same or something :S?
edit
Sorted it

This worked for me on TT 7.9 on Xperia X1 with Pure 6.5 SEX1 ROM.
Postcodes in full! Thanks!
I used this link
http://uk.support.tomtom.com/cgi-bin/tomtom_uk.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=9852&Lid=1
Then took out the 2 GB files from the zip folder, created a file called Zip in the folders (as quoted above), and pasted them into the Zip file.
