I'm not sure how this Internet sharing deal works. Anyone has a step-by-step on how to use it?
Also, is Internet sharing tethering? Is it like the new way to tether in 6.1?

Go to Comm Manager. Click on Internet Sharing... Then follow the prompts.
It's pretty simple:
1) Plug phone into computer and establish a sync
2) Find the Internet Sharing program, open it up, and click: "Connect"
3) Wait for it to say "Connected" and for your computer to establish an IP

The bluetooth patch that you can find in another thread supports the FTP profile. Is that what you're looking for?
I have successfull PAN with my pc and magician. Just use bluesoleil stack both for ppc and desktop pc. It works ok the only problem I have is that I cannot surf the internet via PAN. Any help appreciated.
Oh by the way in order to make desktop pc folders visible to ppc apart from "sharing" them you should use one of the following programs: PocketLAN, or netuse. You can try the above progs without installing bluesoleil stack fro pc, give it a try.

surf the internet via PAN:
1) Go to "Network Connections" folder on your PC
2) Right click on your internet connection (not bluetooth!).
3) Click "Properties"
4) Go to "Advanced" tab
5) check "Allow other network users to connect...."
thanks truedim, I have already done this. It is not working though.

Yo!
I purchased a BlueTooth dongle for my PC at home in the vein hope that I can use my home PC internet connection on my Uni / Xda Exec.
I thought this would be a simple process.
I thought wrong.
It should be simple.
As with all things Micro$oft, it is not.
I think my problem lies at the PC end of things. For some reason I think I need a LAN or a Private LAN running. However, under XP Pro I just cannot seem find the setting that allows internet sharing, creation of such a LAN or 'bridging'. All stuff on the internet asks you to do it but reference is made I guess to a version of Windows other than mine.
All I have managed to do so far is create a passworded partnership - which is about as useful as tits on a bull: Damn BlueTooth now just sits there with it's thumb up it's arse.
WHY OH WHY DO THEY MAKE IT SO BLOODY COMPLICATED!!!
Can someone PURRRRLEASE point me at a guide!!!!
Andy
Shouldn't be difficult. But it is a microsoft product.
I am assuming that you have XP with service pack 2 installed. Basically, have you gone to windows update and made sure the machine is up-to-date?
First, make sure you device pairs OK.
Connect to the internet.
Second, find some way of accessing the properties for your internet connection. My prefered way is to right-click on the connected icon, click status, then click properties.
On the advanced tab, click the box that says:
"Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection"
Make sure Active-sync is running on the PC.
Load activesync on the PDA, select Menu, Connect-Via-Bluetooth
Once connected, allow it a couple of minutes to sync.
Next load internet explorer. It will say: You are about to connect to the internet
Click OK or Cancel, you are already connected.
On my MDA Pro, that was all I had to do
Hope this helps,
Gareth

Exactly. Hence infinite frustration. I am not anti Microsoft at all, but they could do themselves a HUGE favour & make things SOOOOO much simpler!

Hoping I am in the correct forum and someone can help me out. I purchased a HTC Pure and on ATT. I had a Raphael before and was able to tether fine to my laptop. I can't on my pure and ATT says I now need a Tethering Plan, and that has been the way for 2 years now.
Does anyone know a work around for tethering? Extra software? Tips? Please let me know.
The only problem that I had so far was trying to use Internet Sharing to connect to my laptop. But after doing some research found the solution on the ATT forums. With a registry editor go to [HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings] and delete “ForceCellConnection”. Now when the cell ask what do U want to do with the connection, either Active Sync, Mass Data or Use as Modem there will be a drop down tab to chose how to connect, via Media Net, ATT GSR or ISP. Personally I use Media Net.
must do a soft reset (turn the phone off) after

The HTC pure doesnt have that registry key nor the \internetsharing\setting folder
UH, yeah it does.
Open your Reg Edit program and follow the above instructions. What are you using for Reg Editing?
Check your START screen for Internet Sharing icon. Follow the above instructions.
By the way, you do know that AT$T will smoke you like a cheap cigar if they catch you tethering without a tethering plan.
,
Tethering on a Pure as I write! It works fine, just change the reg key. Make sure you hit internet sharing, then connect on the phone after you plug it into the usb.
Just take out the proxy server.
I tether all the time, always have and never tweaked my registry.

Ok, try this first;
In connection Settings, go to advanced\select networks and set both to MediaNet.
Now go back and see if your proxy can be removed.
Make sure you check "This network connects to internet"
Mine is totally configurable.
Did that.
Still says the same.

MEdia Net
The connection is pre-configured. It cannot be modified.

I just did the reg edit and it worked great for me! Super quick and easy. When I connect my Pure to my computer with USB it just asks if I want to use as modem or sync with outlook (I use TF3D so these are the only options I got). Thanks for this, I've been wanting to do this for awhile but never got around to asking
p.s. I tethered on ATT with my Samsung Epix all the time, without the tethering plan, and never got caught/got in trouble for it. knock on wood. The way I see it, I pay a crap ton of $$ for internet on 'premium' device, who are they to tell me how to use it.
To be able to edit Media Net connections you need to do registry edit or install cab. REG EDIT is as follows:
To Unlock Media Net connection settings go to
[HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Destinations\MEdia Net\, change ReadOnly from 1 to 0.
This should do the trick.
How does one use this?
Machine accesses it like it's a portable drive, can't find any driver, aborts.
Is This the answer?

No, using a Windows Mobile app on your Aria isn't going to work. You want to use either the Internet Sharing options under Settings -> Connect to PC or the wireless wifi tethering.
the wireless tethering is in the rom, based on attn1 notes
when I connect aria to pc and select internet sharing, then what is the next step ?

I've never had to use it, in fact I never did try Liberated Rxx. I have CM 6.1 installed and I always use wireless tether. Hopefully someone else can answer this for you.
figured it out, separate app for wireless, works fine.
First of all, I would like you all to bear with me since this is my first HOWTO in my entire life. I decided to make this one since the guides from this site are for Windows Mobile, and some do it in a different way. Also, since there aren't really that much info on the net about an Android VNC client.
There's Gmote and RemoteDroid, but they're not VNC clients, so you still have to "look" at your PC's monitor.
Onward!
1. Download and install any VNC server to your computer. There are a bunch, but for this example, I used TightVNC because it's free, and it has a Linux version (which is kinda old).
After installation, set your authentication password. Skip this if you've done it during installation.
2. Download android-vnc-viewer and install it to your phone. [http://code.google.com/p/android-vnc-viewer/]
3. Go to your phone's wireless settings and enable wireless tethering / portable hotspot. Try to set a password to prevent...you know.
4. Disconnect any wifi connection in your laptop/pc and connect to your phone's access point.
5. Start android-vnc-viewer. Fill in the stuff. What's important is you fill in the IP Address and the port correctly.
You can get your IP address by hovering your mouse at TightVNC's icon in the system tray or typing ipconfig in Window's command prompt. Linux users can get their IP address by typing "ifconfig -a" (i just use conky for this so im not sure xD)
And oh. the port by default is 5900. You can check at TightVNC's configuration page.
6. Skip the windows authentication username thing.
7. All other settings like the color format, configure to your liking.
8. Press connect!
I'll post screenshots tomorrow, and by screenshot I mean the pictures of the two connected.
For any questions and violent reactions, just reply And note: You can also do this by setting your laptop/pc as the access point. A program like connectify does the trick. Once the phone is connected to the laptop, skip to step 5.

No. Just tether with wifi. Think of your phone as a wireless router not connected to the internet. Once you've set up tethering on your phone, connect to your phone's tethered AP (default name is AndroidAP)
BUT,
If you just want a mouse alternative (not a remote desktop), i suggest you use Gmote.
