Tethering on ATT - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Hoping I am in the correct forum and someone can help me out. I purchased a HTC Pure and on ATT. I had a Raphael before and was able to tether fine to my laptop. I can't on my pure and ATT says I now need a Tethering Plan, and that has been the way for 2 years now.
Does anyone know a work around for tethering? Extra software? Tips? Please let me know.

The only problem that I had so far was trying to use Internet Sharing to connect to my laptop. But after doing some research found the solution on the ATT forums. With a registry editor go to [HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings] and delete “ForceCellConnection”. Now when the cell ask what do U want to do with the connection, either Active Sync, Mass Data or Use as Modem there will be a drop down tab to chose how to connect, via Media Net, ATT GSR or ISP. Personally I use Media Net.

must do a soft reset (turn the phone off) after

The HTC pure doesnt have that registry key nor the \internetsharing\setting folder

UH, yeah it does.
Open your Reg Edit program and follow the above instructions. What are you using for Reg Editing?
Check your START screen for Internet Sharing icon. Follow the above instructions.
By the way, you do know that AT$T will smoke you like a cheap cigar if they catch you tethering without a tethering plan.
,

Tethering on a Pure as I write! It works fine, just change the reg key. Make sure you hit internet sharing, then connect on the phone after you plug it into the usb.

Just take out the proxy server.
I tether all the time, always have and never tweaked my registry.

Ok, try this first;
In connection Settings, go to advanced\select networks and set both to MediaNet.
Now go back and see if your proxy can be removed.
Make sure you check "This network connects to internet"
Mine is totally configurable.

Did that.
Still says the same.

MEdia Net

I just did the reg edit and it worked great for me! Super quick and easy. When I connect my Pure to my computer with USB it just asks if I want to use as modem or sync with outlook (I use TF3D so these are the only options I got). Thanks for this, I've been wanting to do this for awhile but never got around to asking
p.s. I tethered on ATT with my Samsung Epix all the time, without the tethering plan, and never got caught/got in trouble for it. knock on wood. The way I see it, I pay a crap ton of $$ for internet on 'premium' device, who are they to tell me how to use it.

To be able to edit Media Net connections you need to do registry edit or install cab. REG EDIT is as follows:
To Unlock Media Net connection settings go to
[HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Destinations\MEdia Net\, change ReadOnly from 1 to 0.
This should do the trick.

BlueTooth connection from PC to Uni for Home internet access

Yo!
I purchased a BlueTooth dongle for my PC at home in the vein hope that I can use my home PC internet connection on my Uni / Xda Exec.
I thought this would be a simple process.
I thought wrong.
It should be simple.
As with all things Micro$oft, it is not.
I think my problem lies at the PC end of things. For some reason I think I need a LAN or a Private LAN running. However, under XP Pro I just cannot seem find the setting that allows internet sharing, creation of such a LAN or 'bridging'. All stuff on the internet asks you to do it but reference is made I guess to a version of Windows other than mine.
All I have managed to do so far is create a passworded partnership - which is about as useful as tits on a bull: Damn BlueTooth now just sits there with it's thumb up it's arse.
WHY OH WHY DO THEY MAKE IT SO BLOODY COMPLICATED!!!
Can someone PURRRRLEASE point me at a guide!!!!
Andy
Shouldn't be difficult. But it is a microsoft product.
I am assuming that you have XP with service pack 2 installed. Basically, have you gone to windows update and made sure the machine is up-to-date?
First, make sure you device pairs OK.
Connect to the internet.
Second, find some way of accessing the properties for your internet connection. My prefered way is to right-click on the connected icon, click status, then click properties.
On the advanced tab, click the box that says:
"Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection"
Make sure Active-sync is running on the PC.
Load activesync on the PDA, select Menu, Connect-Via-Bluetooth
Once connected, allow it a couple of minutes to sync.
Next load internet explorer. It will say: You are about to connect to the internet
Click OK or Cancel, you are already connected.
On my MDA Pro, that was all I had to do
Hope this helps,
Gareth

Exactly. Hence infinite frustration. I am not anti Microsoft at all, but they could do themselves a HUGE favour & make things SOOOOO much simpler!

Wizard using Wifi

Hey,
I have a G4 Wizard, Model Wiza100(With a Camera). I'm using a generic MDA Windows Mobile v6 rom. I recently bought this phone off a friend, mine broke and I didn't want to pay 100s for a rather crappy go phone. I do not have the Data Plan for AT&T and was wondering if there was a way to configure my wizard to NEVER automatically connect to the internet. I'd also like to find a way to have it be able to browse while connected to wifi. Thanks guys, -Strife
Bumb. Any help guys?
Go into start, settings, connections, tap manage existing connections, general tab and tap delete settings. I think this should remove internet connections settings and you wont be able to connect.
Your phone shouldn't connect to gprs anyway unless you open your web browser or other app (like weather program) without being connected to wifi
Sweet, thanks man. I never really need to use the internet on my phone, I was just skeptical of downloading weather addons and such because I didn't want it to access the internet. Also, everytime I let someone use my phone they end up opening internet explorer anyways. I guess we will see the bill at the end of the month, but this should stop it. Thanks again.

Then download apps that let YOU decide when things get updated.
Also, you could try using NoData from MoDaCo (free registration on site required to see/download attachments). Pay attention to their warnings, though: you must have GPRS settings installed for it to work
It'll basically render GPRS inoperable unless you absolutely NEED it, then you just run NoData again, and enable GPRS, and Bob's your mother's sister's husband.
Sweet, thanks for the heads up. Seems like I had No Data on my phone from the MDA Rom. Alright cool, well now I know how to use No Data. Thanks again!

Help with my Vogue on android....

Okay So I am pulling my hair out here... I just booted android on my Vogue for the first time, everything works great, voice calls and sms.. But I can get a Inet connection but I am using Cricket not sprint so I added the username and password lines in default.txt and can connect, but Cricket uses a proxy for all http connections. So I found this article http://fggarcia.blogspot.com/2007/11...-emulator.html , which basicly says to use the adp app that comes in the sdk to add some lines to make the proxy. NOW, here is my problem... I can not for the life of me get my come (in windows or linux) to see my vogue while its in android..
In windows it does not appear ANYWHERE in the device manager... So I cannot install the driver, and in Linux it doesnt make a blip in dmesg..... USB debugging is marked and so is use adb....
It does charge when plugged in to the comp running linux.....
Can anyone please help me... And thanks to DZO and everyone else for there hard work on this project..
Did you use Togga (app installed in Android). Something tells me you didn't.
Yes I am using Toga, I go in and click connect and it says it is connected... is there anything else I need to do after that?
I think I misunderstood what you were asking. Are you trying to tether it with your computer? If so, that isn't possible.
No I only wanted USB to use adb to add the proxy settings in a db, I tried that but it still didn't work. My Provider uses a proxy (wap.mycricket.com:8080) for all http connections. I Have Toga working and it will connect, but without the proxy info nothing can access the web... Please if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks ahead of time.

you can use an app called anycut to add shortcuts to whatever you like to the desktop- one of these being PROXY settings shortcut, but it doesn't let you authenticate! i thought that was what the lines in default.txt were for, but alas...
i have tried the squlite3 method from the terminal and this failed as well :/
I just edited the default "android" APN setting in the connections options. Only changed info needed like user name, password, proxy, port - i think thats it. It now allows me to connect to the net, but for some odd reason wont allow me to sync with my google account.

Microsoft Push Keeps My Data connection on All the Time. How do I change this?

I want it to activate the data connection only when there is new mail on the exchange server, and then disconnect after the message is retrieved. Can this even be done given that the only way the mobile know that there is an email waiting on the server is being "poked" by the server through an IP connection.
Note that I am NOT asking for the activesync setting that synch's with the xchange server every 5/10/15/20/n minutes. I know about that and dont want to use that (that would be a pull, Im using push".
Anyone?

No, "NoData" shuts the connection off when not in use, otherwise you could just turn off your data connection.

Because it says:
This applicatiopn allows you to Toggle the state of your data connections, ideal for roaming...
So, I really think it close the connection for everything you select (Px Internet, Px Live, Px MMS, PX Push).
We shall know if hokiemiata has tryed it...
Havnt tried it yet because I dont think it is what I am looking for.
How do I "Undo" this CAB if I dont like it?
Sorry All,
THIS was the program I was thinking of, I had the 2 mixed up.
No Data is only good for timed syncs.
All changes revert back after uninstall.

[Q] Looking for Proxy app

Hello,
I haven't found anything quite related to what I'm looking for (similar, but involving the GPRS vs WiFi settings)
I'm curious if anyone knows of an app that when you connect to a WiFi network, it will automagically set the proxy server and port required for that WiFi network? One WiFi network I use requires a proxy, but the rest do not. It's annoying to have to change it all the time. It would be great to find an app that when it detects I've connected to the wifi that requires the proxy it figures out which one I'm connected to (either via BSID, ESSID, SSID, MAC etc) and sets the proxy if required. Heck a shell script on a rooted phone could do the setting just fine, but it's the first part I'm stuck with.
Thanks!
I've been looking for an app like this too. My school makes me use a proxy but my home does not and it sucks having to change it every time I go to school or home.
Hey guys can you tell me how to change to the proxy settings. I dont mind switching back and forth but the proxy settings should work. I've my proxy set at 192.168.11.5 and port 3128. How do i use internet with that ?

Hey, so this doesnt do exactly what you want, but its a quick and easy thing. Search the forums, or just google "xda transproxy" I use it now, and the latest beta is very stable. Connects to my schools proxy, and everything works. Or, download orbot from the market..but i personally dont like it, too many steps to do a simple thing. But, to each their own. Anywho, just search and download, and install with your file manager of choice, make sure you set up the port, and ip address before you start the proxy. oh..and on my droid incredible, with virtous 3.1, I had to reboot before I could access the market. Your results may very.

ASProxy
I think ASProxy is what you need. For every WiFi network you connect to, you can specify which proxy to use. Besides that, it does NTLM-authentication as well, which is often required in corporate environments.
First I used TransProxy for quite some time, which is great if you only use 1 WiFi network with a proxy (you can use other WiFi networks without the proxy) and don't need NTLM authentication. Then I discovered ASProxy (found a review on android-machines.blogspot.com) which is great, if you need different proxy settings for each WiFi network.
