Hi, I saw several post that speak about use the HTC camera to use to insert in the properties (exif) in jpg photos, like
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-363014.html
I know that our devices, haven´t got GPS, but I use with external GPS bluetooth.
I try to insert in registry the value P9, because it don´t appear, but it isn´t work.
I have Rom CE OS 5.2.1948 (BUILD 18548.0.7.0)
Any advice?
Also, I would like to know if anybody can use the tytn like usb host (to connect a memory card or pendrive to tytn usb conector) and can read the content of the memory connected.
Any idea?
Thanks.
hi, I used to have a hermes. nice device. but GPS photo did not worked for me. I tried few roms but without luck. also hermes doesnt have any USB host, so if you connect e.g. USB harddisk then it will be not detected-recognized. but you can use your tytn as mass storage, with wm5storage. if you find out how to set the camera to take a picture with exif GPS info, put the info in here. I am curious.

Hi,
Just like the new feature in WM5 "USB Mass Storage Device" there is a software package which does the same.
It turns the USB port of your Pocket Pc in a Dumb USB Memory stick. Check out http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
BUT Sadly.... the site say's the following:"i-Mate
Model Processor type Test result Notes
Jam Intel PXA27x Doesn't work yet
So I need other potential users who think they gonna buy the software when it works on the Magician! They say We are permanently developing support for the new devices. Tell us what device support do you need.
Drop them a Mail or message on http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/ and hopefully they will develop soon a nice to have tool (and long waited for one) for the Magician!
Or maybe somebody else knows a alternative (yeah yeah, i would like to say the wm5 will come soon to the magician)
Take care , Tom from Holland
Stupid me, Didn;t use the search option long enough, find a cross posting : http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23233 was allready there. Looks like they fixed the [problem, unofficial it works now thanx to DES.
If I read from the website :
Accessing storage card has never been easier!
Switch USB mode from Active Sync to Card Export
Insert your Pocket PC into cradle or connect to USB cable
And after few seconds desktop drivers automatically mount cards as a logical disk!
What is special in it? Cant you do it using ActiveSync?

Not all machines have ActiveSync installed. With Card Export installed, you ppc can be treated as a card reader (no driver for Win2k or above).
Using card export for Car Radio's.
Is there someone who tested it also with USB Car Radio systems? They sell car radio's where you can put in your USB key/stick and the Car radio starts playing the MP3 songs on that stick!
It would be awesome if you could connect you Jam to you radio system this way!
Take Care, Tom from Holland.
I Got a quick and complete answer back from them!

Thank you for your request.
As far as I know, Card Export II should work with Car radio, because we have reports that Card Export II for Palm OS works with Car radio. Anyway, you'll be able to download trial version and try it before buying.
We are planning to support your device in our updated version today or tomorrow.
Sincerely yours

How do I switch form Active Sync to card export?
Typically RTFM!
Or start CE2 on your magician, you'll get a icon in your tray, tick it and setup preferences & default card. Then tick Card Export in the same menu. Now your magacian isn't using the SD anymore. On your PC disable AS usb connection & plugin the usb at both ends. Now your mass storage device will be installed.
regards, M
So this is not possible without CE?

Not everyone has a card reader at home and not everyone has activesync installed. i.e. i use CE when i'm at university and i need to bring my work with me, or when i'm at one of my friends' home and he shows me his latest mp3 collection...
I don't usually bring a usb key with me (and even when i do, my key has only 128MB Vs my jam SD card's 1GB) while my jam is ALWAYS with me. Sure, you'll need a mini usb cable but, fortunately, many digital cameras, scanners, printers and so on have one.
That said, I think CE is one of the most useful programs out there.
Just my two cents...
Bye bye,
Isidoro
PS: starting from 2.04, Card ExportII is FULLY compatible with our Magicians.
PS2: I'm DEFINITELY NOT a CE developer!!! Bye

I agree CE is the best option (I'm still in the trial period), only having WM5 & CE apparently being not compatible you need that card-reader or settle for low speed LOL
First advantage of not having WM5 second is VGS push-mail
Perfect. I just tried it, and it works flawlessly straight out of the box.

On what device?
i-Mate JAM, ROM 1.12.00 WWE, Radio 1.12.10, ExtROM 1.12.149 WWE.
Now, all I need is USB host support
Would it be possible to connect a digital camera to the Jasjar so that I can send photos through my GPRS connection. Or does this require USB host capability (and thus a new ROM)?
Thanks!
Hi
It's not possible, and as far as I know there's no software to emulate USB host.
Still, if you have some BT/IRDA fancy camera, you may send photos to your PDA.
Personally I take advantage of SD card camera, which is flash-card compatibile with PDAs. It may not be very quick (changing SDs) but it works
OK, unfortunately I already have a camera...I suppose I need to use a CF-->SD converter in the camera. Have you heard of a SD-->CF converter (I know it would be big and stick out...just curious).
Yep... it exists.
Just google for "cf sd adapter"
One example here:
http://www.directshopper.de/minolta-cf-sd-adapter_compact-flash_p
I've read somwhere that Windows Mobile 5 has built-in support for actiing ass a usb mass storage device.
Is this true?
How do I activate it, when connecting to a computer (win xp, win2003, OS X.3)the device gets listed as GENEREIC RNDIS.
Qtek 9100
Windows mobile 5 (norwegian)
Kingston 1GB miniSD card
You can always try Softick Card Export if you don't succeed.
Cheers, M

Sorry,
Try writing an e-mail to the developer, like des did. Maybe it helps.

WM 5.0 as USD Device
What a dream, how nice if WM 5 did support USB devices or memory readers, transfer files from Camera etc without removing cards.
I havce seen 3rd party freeware downloads that allow a pocket pc , magician/universal to act a usb drive from a PC.
Not sure if thats what you mean. Easier than having to go through activesync.
Wish my pda supported usb 2 go for backups.
CE2 is such a product, although not free & the only one I know off. If you found another one & post it you make a lot of people happy.
Regards, M
You're talking about using the Wizard as a mass storage device, rather than using mass storage devices on the client, aren't you?
The Zaurus range can do this, all you need to do is tell the device to act as mass storage. How you enable it on the wizard is beyond my knowledge, but I guess you'll need to either poke in the registry or use some switching software.
It'd be neat if you can do this!
Whats wrong with using Explore under Active sync... or even a short cut to it... I do.
Terran
You need active sync installed and that is not available for OS X or Windows Server 2003 without SP1
Result I can't connect to my computer at work, or my laptop at home.
Only computer willing to sync is my old winxp box which is downgraded from home computer to file and webserver.
Andreas
Don't know what the wizard speeds are, on a magician it's too [email protected] slow!
I also read that it should be possible to use the mda compact II as a mass storage device, without any extra software. But I didn't find the option now...
MAybe they will add it in a later rom-version (I hope so..)
But honestly I don't think they will do this, so we have to hope that
softtick will program it for use
Regards,
km
with the Eten M500 it was possible to use it as a USB host, so connecting eg your USB cable from your digital camera directly to your pocket PC. But now, with the new Eten M600 this nice functionality has been lost...
So I think this was a specific device functionality, which was made by Eten for the M500, but I doubt it is a standard WM 5 functionality...

I have managed to network my wizard and my powerbook using the wifi connection quite sucessfully. I can log into my account and access the harddrive volumes. Still can't sink with contacts though.

Hi. I need connect my Canon 1d to Athena via USB cable but Athena dont see the camera and say : "Unidentifited USB Device, Enter the name of the device driver for this device" After fill a field is : "Error installing USB driver"
What can I do?
My Athena works with Card Reader without problem.
(Sorry for my English)
There are only a limited number of built-in drivers for the USB host. You need to supply a driver designed for Windows Mobile for your camera. It may not exist.
But toshiba g900 was works well with the same camera...
It is possible to "extract" usb driver from G900 and apply to Athena?
i hope this issue has a solution. i also had the same problem when i connected my canon powershot s5is to my athena.
hopefully one of the gurus figures out a solution
ciao!
i just saw that my camera (canon powershot s5 is) and jedras' camera (canon eos 1d) both uses PTP mode for transferring/accessing files from the camera.
i'm not sure if our athena will ever 'learn' how to connect to our cameras on this mode.

hey fards, i cant seem to find any way of downloading any file here
Ech.. doesn't work
Hello everybody.
Did you get this one to work in our device? I'm trying but I didn't get it.
Sometimes it says that can connect to the camara, and other says that can open a session, this last after a reset.
Also I'm was looking in the web for another driver, but without success.
I have a Sony CyberShot DSC-W55 7.2 MPix. That I use to get photos of my trips. And it will be very useful if I can transfer to my X7501.
I have set my usb connection on the canara as PTP and the folder where I have the photos.
Regards.
did you solved this problem? I have the same problem and did not find the solution yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480899
That is supposed to fix the PTP View issue, but it's still not working.
It's asking for the device name and I don't know what to put in the input box.
Maybe Zeno can help.
Ciao!
there are some willing for the development of camera driver...
There is a new Athena Project ROM coming and some of us requested an update with USB hosting which may solve the problems with connecting Athena to digital cameras (and other powered devices)
The developer/s are just asking for a little donation so that he can buy the 4-in-1 cable, which is essential for the USB host update development...
If you are willing to donate a little on the project pls. do so, so that we can enjoy using the Athena with our Cameras....see here:

Hi!
im just wondering if there is a possibility to use my HTC Touch Diamond as a GPS dongle to my Macbook?
Anyone know if there is a app for that or something?

Solution! Further way down
Okey guys!
it was a long time since i wrote here, but i actually solved the problem!
as mr-pill recommended i used Franson GpsGate
I installed the program with the .CAB to my memmorycard not the internal storage.
after installation i went through the wizard and i chose only internal GPS not garmin or bluetooth.
After that you got the option how you whant to sync with the other units, i choose bluetooth, make sure you have you phone paired with you macbook.
the in you program hope for that it supports bluetooth GPS.
and your done!

Nope nothing i cant get it to work :S
how shall i connect my device to my macbook? Bluetooth? USB cable?
Whan i choose BT it just says that BT not enabled even if it is :S
Very strange? IF USB shall i take Storage och Active Sync?
Keep us posted, I want to do the same thing except with Windows XP. If you do get it figured out would you mind posting how you did it? Thank you in advance
The only advice I can give you is: If doing via bluetooth you need to make sure the program is looking at the correct COM port otherwise it will never "see" the gps.

I had some fun with GPS2Blue yesterday, but finally got it working. As well as getting all programs to look at the right port, you need to create an incoming bluetooth serial port on the phone for it to work - you can easily create an incoming port on the PC easily (you'd expect to want your phone to access services on the PC, not the other way round, right?), but as I understand it's not quite so easy on the phone.
Managed to find these instructions and got it working perfectly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=499896&highlight=gps2blue
EDIT: This will work for all GPS applications that uses a serial GPS receiver, not just those that explicitly support bluetooth receivers (I got hold of some very old free software and it works fine). The bluetooth linkis handled by Windows/MacOS and all the app sees is a serial port.
