Hey,
I have a question regarding the XDA II.
When I'm getting the device I would like to get it connected in my car.
Is it possible to connect the XDA II to an amplifier and play my mp3's?
I know there are a few amplifiers out there that can be connected with a "walkman" jack.
If is possible could you put some pics online where I can check it out?
Thanks a lot!
Cheers
Panja
if you dont want to get a car tuner which neat jackconnectors
and you have a tape player in the car then
http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/shop/_templates/item_accessories.asp?model=69&cat=16
this one or one like it would work if you made or got a xda 2.5 to 3.5 converter
First of all: thanks for the amazing fast reply!! :-D
I don't have a tape player in my car... So this is not an option for me...
I can buy an amplifier that can be connected with a "walkman" jack.
I had one a long time ago, I connected my walkman to the amplifier.
So is there a cable that can be connected to the XDA II and the other side that has a "walkman" jack? (So I can put this in the amplifier)?
And will this work for the XDA II?
Cheers

xda1 and 2 have compatible connectors apart from the pickup phone buttons
w00t!!
That's what I'm looking for man!
Thanks again, going to order that one as soon as my XDA II is in my hands :-D
Does anyone in here own such a cable?
Just want to know if the quality is any good...
If it's worth the money.
The cable itself is not that expensive but I would have to buy an amplifier too.
Don't care about the money as long as it works great :-D
Cheers
Also I would like to know when connected with the cable does the microfone still work? (so when the cable is inserted)
Because I will be using MS Voice software...
Thanks
if it does disable the mic in the xda then this
http://pc-mobile.net/pxdaa.htm
would work it have a mic aswell and a 3.5mm connector
of cause then you would have to place it in a place where
it can recieve your voice
about sound quality then should not be much worse then the headset
it's just another connector with the jack 3.5mm
it's just analog you can compare it with how much the quality loss would be if a walkmen were connected the same way compared to connected to a headset
Thanks man!!
Just a question regarding the cable with mic.
If I will use it in the car with the sound (mp3) over my speakers won't that interfere with my microphone (with ms voice software)...?
Hi just thought this idea might help:
if you have a look around the net (i think Expansys.co.uk also do one) you can get a little radio module that plugs into a standard stereo jack, it transmits your audio to a special frequency that can be picked up by any FM radio nearby. Like you car radio if you have one.
I use my XDA II as an MP3 player in my car via Seidio's iSound wireless FM transmitter. The transmitter input plugs into the XDA2's headphone jack (I have a 2.5 to 3.5 mm adaptor) and then I tune my car stereo into the user definable frequency of the iSound transmitter. Works very well.

This sounds very very interesting guys!!
Thanks a lot.
This is a lot more userfriendly than putting an amplifer and stuff in.
I have a nice car audio so this is very neat!!
How is the sound quality?!
Cheers
So how is the sound quality?
Before I'm buying this one I would like to know if the sound quality is good.
I got the expansys adapter but it works very poorly for the XDAII dues to the unusual shape of the 2.5 socket on the XDAII. I have to fiddle with the plug to get it to work... very annoying.
Anyone found an adapter without this problem?

Yes, with another adapter i had the same problem.
Buy on old Nokia 8110 headet, cut it below the mic and use the wires to solder a 3,5mm connector to it, On the nokia wire :
blue = Audio-L
Green = Audio-R
Red = Mic
Blanc = Ground
Good luck !
Hi all
I have a MDA compact which I wish to connect to my car stereo as a handsfree unit. I have an auxiliary input for my stereo.
Is it possible just to purchase a 2.5 to 3.5mm lead for this? I have a gut feeling the mic won't work - please help? Is it possible to buy such a lead with a built in mic?
Thanks
Carl
Hi, I used to have a XDAII which I connected to the auxillary port on my car stereo, just like you suggest. It worked perfectly. When using the phone, the caller's voice woudl come out of the car speakers and the mic was powerful enough to pick up my voice even though the unit was mounted on my windscreen.
Unfortuntely, both the Wizard and the Exec automatically disable the mic when you plug into the headphone socket. Not sure about the MDA comact. Sorry couldn't offer more advice on your particular device, but I hope my experiences help.

I do have the same setup. I can confirm U the mic still work after U plug in the adapter but I normally use a BT headset when I am in the car.
OK, so I assume that if I purchase a 2.5mm to 3.5mm lead, the mic should work?

Yes. 8)
OK - did some work on this.
I decided to cut the earplugs off of the supplied headset, and attach a 3.5mm socket.
I now have a custom XDA mini lead
All works, however volume from car stereo speakers is extremely low. Any ideas? (Yes, I have checked car volume, phone volume and headphone volume!)
Cheers

Hi Jackleung, my mic is being diabled, and i am beginning to think that I may not have the right connector. I have a standard 3.5mm connecting the exec. Can you let me know how you have wired your device with the type of connector? You may be able to solve a longstanding problem of mine.
Thanks in advance.
I found my mic was cancelled with the Mini, hence the custom cable.
hope this helps!

I think my adapter is just a standard 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter. I tried 2 different adapter (one from Radio shack and the other one from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-CABLE-headp...ryZ15040QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Both are working for me (I will try again today and confirm U tomorrow), therefore I think yr problem is in the exec hardware itself.
To Carl,
Yr setup will not work since yr supplied headset adapter has at least 4 connection on the plug compare to 3 on the standard one. The extra connection is for the mic. If U cut the wire like this:
<---- X --- mic+volumn control ------ ear plugs
Then U can no longer use the mic w/ the custom wire. But if U:
<------- mic+volumn control -- X ---- ear plugs
then the mic on yr mic+volumn control will pick up the voice
hi jackleung
Thanks for the reply - the lead was cut after the mic but before the earphones.
This was because a standard lead with a 2.5 / 3.5mm adaptor didnt work.
My only issue now is the low volume!
Cheers
Carl
I tried it on my Imate Jam again. My mic on the Jam still works (eg: Voice Command via Cyberon Voice Dial. So do phone conversation) even I use my 2.5mm/3.5mm adapter to connection it to my car stereo.
Hi,
I did the same for me and a friend of mine with a Univer..er - Jasjar and connected this to an FM transmitter - We have excellent sound quality, volume and the you can still answer calls by pressing the Mic Button
Frikkie
(If you are gonna be late - dont rush, else someone else and YOU will be cross)
check connections?
I have done exactly what you did, put a 3.5mm socket on the end of the included handsfree cable.. volume is fine, and i regularly connect it to the aux in the car, and multiple sets of headphone/speakers...
The best suggestion to your volume problem is to try again.. i know i had issue with the stereo channels getting screwed up (and even combined at one point) and it was just trial and error getting the connections clean..
You have to ensure that both the shaft and tip connectors on the socket are grounded to the shared ground on the circuit board.. otherwise the audio will probably be less than perfect.. check for dodgy soldering/connection.. coz i can assure you that your theory does work!

There is another topic on this here.
The person from there uses:
http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=PPCPADPT02
which has two 3.5mm plugs.
Description: It has a 2.5mm plug at one end (this plugs into the PocketPC) and two 3.5mm sockets at the other end (into which you plug your 3.5mm headset or headphones).
My question was: could I put a standard 3.5 car kit mic into this 3.5 headset jack (the one with the mic)? Would the mic work if I plug it into a headset jack?
I assume the other one (headphones = stereo only) I will plug it directly into my car auxiliary via a 3.5mm to RCA cable, right?
Hey everyone, I have been looking around to find an adapter that will allow you to charge the device, and has a plug(s) that allows for an external mic and ear phones. I have seen the ones that allow for just the 3.5 for music but don't have another plug for a mic input... Or they have a built in mic which will not work for me. The reason for this is so I can put it in my motorcycle helmet. I need to be able to attach a wind resistant mic. Also want to use my ear buds so I can actually hear people and music. Any ideas? Thanks!
John
Try www.Expansys.com they have some good accessories for the TyTN II
Already looked
I looked on expansys already. Did not find anything on their site. The closest thing I could find is this: http://www.semsons.com/2miusband3st.html
Any other ideas?
I don't think there is currently anything that will do what you want out of the box. You are probably going to have to get a soldering iron out and come up with a homebrew solution. You could wire up your wind resistant mic to replace the built in mic in either the standard headset or an adaptor. You are still going to need something like 11pin to 5&6pin or 3in1 adaptor to allow charging and audio/mic.
You can use the y-cable and stereo headphones w/ built in mic from the AT&T 8525 to do what you're asking.
Friends,
I have the AT&T tilt and was wondering if there was a device that allows usb hardware interface to the tilt for direct recording?
Long story short, I am interested in recording my heart rate, breathing, pulse during sleep. I know this can be done with a computer using apps like soundforge etc. But does the tilt have this ability besides using vito audio notes for mic recording?
Please advise,
Thank You,
Tvos
You can purchase external microphones for the Tilt. I have a couple... the best one is from http://www.pocketpctechs.com/
If they're not good enough, you can hack them and add your own element. They're simple condenser mics.
From an application side, I use the free HTC recorder application. There are links to it on this site.
the microphone I am using is connected directly into a stethoscope, so I don't need external micr. Just the adapter connector that reverses the signal for the tilt to pick-up and record.
please advise of the microphones and the link -

I am not aware of any microphone cables that will patch yours in out of the box. It's a simple matter to make one though if you're so inclined, assuming yours is not a powered microphone and that the impedances are close.
i thought there would be a simple adapater that you could connect usb interface and then record the signal in?
no, the mic I am using is a radio shack $15.00 with battery power, but low impedence.
tvos
Nope.. I'm afraid a little cutting and splicing would be required for that project. It's a simple task.
I've was on the market for a high quality audio recorder but they seem way more expensive than they should be (£100+) yet the only difference between price ranges is the options offered to the consumer.
I was wondering if the HD2 works with a microphone such as this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-ECM-DS70P-Microphone-Stereo-Plugin/dp/B00005QBV2 If so, it could probably equal the high end recording devices. 200 bucks worth. See I have the above microphone and I'm trying to record in notes but despite the microphone being read and distinguished by the headphone symbol in the HD2, it's not picking up the sound.
Does anyone know if the HD2 can support external microphones? If maybe a certain program needs to be used to activate it? It could be a great solution for high quality gig recordings and dictations.
The HD2 uses a jack plug with 3 rings, which you can see on the stock headphones, and the mic is wired to the "inboard" ring your mic doesn't have. That's to keep compatibility with any standard headphones.
So yes it can take an external mic, but it needs to be wired correctly to such a plug. And can obviously only be mono.
Then, whether it can record full quality or applies a "telephone" filter to the input needs testing.
Mono would be suffice, but as there are two mics on the external device, wouldn't there be any way to allow stereo?
What kind of plug are you talking about in regards to wiring it to one?
Thanks kilrah for your very useful post.
Just look at the headphones you received with the phone, and compare the plug with the one on your mic, you'll quickly understand
No way to get stereo as the HD2 only has a mono mic input.

For the Axim X50 / X51 PDAs there was an adapter that took a 3-connector mic jack and rooted it to the correct ring on the 4-connector Axim socket. I tried to find an example with not much luck, but here is a link to start with:
(I am not allowed to post a link; sorry) go to mobilitysite and look up "seidio-audio-adapters".
Unfortunately, the seidio product does not seem to exist anymore... Anyway, would an adapter like this work on the LEO? I would think so, same concept.
Another alternative would be to use the USB port with sthg like the griffin imic but with a micro-USB adapter. Any chance for this?
Good question.
Anyone offer any enlightenment or an idea on adapters?
