I have the Ipaq 612c, its meant to be USB2 according to the HP specs, but none of my programes can trasfer data at USB 2 speeds.
Active sync takes 2min 26seconds, to transfer a 40mb file. Same file on a normal USB flash drive takes 6 seconds!
is there a patch or driver that i'm meant to install?
Thx
TB
You Need To Set Active Sync Mode on the phone to Rndis not Serial
[Edit] ok found where the option is, (under USB to PC, in the connections tab)
but the file transfer was almost exactly the same speed (same file, from same PC to the same data store on the ipaq)
Cheers,
TB

I wonder if there's any software to operate PocketPC as USB Stick available (like for Palm Tungsten T5 - Drive Mode)? So basically I would like to use PocketPC drives just as a USB Stick (without Activesync of course)
Thanks,
Georg
this cannot be done in software.
let me rehash this topic
Can anyone here kindly explain me why it aint possible to use PPC as USB MassStorageDevice? I know you need USB Host Controller chip to handle that stuff in hardware. Why cant we emulate its function in software? In the end its only sending signals to the pc?
How does the device upgrade process work then? you also have to transfer data to ppc rom here.
I know that it wont be easy to give a simple explanation, could anyone try it anyway?
thank you for your help!
regards,
Quappo
i think it would be possible to do in software
if it cant then it's because that it's hardcoded in the pda that when it interduce itself to the pc as a plug'n'play device it does so as a pda
if that cant be changed then you cant do it
I've found some interesting SW tools:
here: http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/#compatibility
and here : http://www.deje.gmxhome.de/download.html
You mast pay for the first one :?
but the second (if you like) it's free !
Have a look !!

You were misleaded. The named tool can be used on PDAs having USB host functionality to connect other hard drives. It won't let your PDA be recognized as a USB stick.
Yes - in general case you can do it.
It is possible to write software which allow to represent PPC with USB end-point hardware as USB Mass Storage device.
Question is - how?
It seems device will need to supply correct descriptors at USB enumeration process and device will have to correctly process appropriate comands from host device (PC or something else)
again - how?
It seems someone will need to write low level software to manage USB endpoint hardware in PPC. it may look like kernel mode driver.
What to need? - doc for USB endpoint device and ability to write driver to manage this hardware.
It isn't difficult - but every PPC will need own device driver.
Or if the USB dev has some interface to supply descriptors and process commands from host (internal - inside system, or app level) - it can be done at some level of abstraction.
Resume
- it is possible
- need to know details about device and USB interface in this PPC.
ryhor - soft stick export does it perfectly. Either use that, or reverse engineer it...
Very useful for non activesynced pcs: keep a copy of activesync install on your SD card, use softstick, install activesync from PPC "usb drive", then switch over to activesync and sync away.

This seems very interesting. Can you tell me how the PPC shows on the Windows PC desktop? It has mostly two drives then, a possible SD card included.
Can you change the drive letter via local disk management?
Happen to know if it would work on Jasjar?

I've no idea how it works on WM5, you'll have to check their site: either way, I'm sure they're working on it.
How it works: you get a little icon in your tray (on Today screen). From there you can choose either to activesync or USB Drive when you connect your usb lead. You can choose which drive to use as a usb drive, ie storage or storage card. Only one at a time though.
Then, stick in your usb lead, and after a few seconds of recognising new hardware, it'll recognise the phone as a standard USB drive, ie a normal drive. I believe the drive letter can be changed in drive management.
I don't think it needs any drivers on >WinXP.

Thanks, I will defenitely buy this stuff when they make a Universal Version.

if it works on wm2005 then it works on universal too
I've found that my atom exec doesn't charge when the computer doesn't recognize the device. The problem is, while I'm surfing the net in the computer lab during breaks, my phone won't charge when connecting through usb. Of course, the admin had blocked everything from installing hardware/software, registry editing, to blocking every port except 80 and whatever port for MSN Messenger (I have to use proxy through port 80 as a workaround).
Is there a way to force my phone to charge? (If it denies to charge) Or is there a way to force the pc to supply power through the usb cable (If the pc doesn't, because it doesn't recognize the device).
And is there anyway to access my Atom Exec just like a flash drive that doesn't require any driver installation? (I think it is possible in Zinc with a few taps since it supports card reader mode natively.)
Thanks in advance.
The USB port has a direct power supply from the MB has nothing to do with drivers. Its a safe bet that the USB port has been disconnected on th inside. Sorry mate no software workarounds for this
I think you'll find that an atom will not charge on a windows PC without drivers.
Plug an atom in without activesync... it does bugger all. Install activesync and hey presto it begins charging.
Windows will not turn on the power on USB port until some driver is installed.
There is a kind of workaround for this - install software such as WM5torage or CardExport to make PocketPC act as "generic USB disk device". If USB flash disk usage is allowed, your atom will connect as disk and charge without activesync.

OMG. WM5torage is what I was looking for. Thank you so much.
whether it's with the usb cable or the desktop cradle the sync between the phone and the desktop doesn't last for very long, it can vaey from 1min to 5min and is a real pain when it drops out whilst downloading a program.
Sometimes the display on the phone says it's syncing but if I look on the pc there is no sign of it in either windows explorer or the snyc centre (using vista), is this a vista problem or hardware/software problem with the phone.
thanks in advance

i used to have this problem... assuming you have already tried disabling the firewall and AV to see if it cures the problem (disconnect from the net first!)...
Firstly are you using WM6 or WM5?
if you are using WM6 then go to settings->Connections->USB to PC and untick enable advanced network functionality
if you are using WM5 then download the file (supplied by dopod) that makes the usb work using the serial protocol. the instructions are in the ZIP file, extract the cab file, copy it to your PDA (you may have to use a SD card reader if you cannot connect for long enough to send it or if not that use a SD slot on a Digital camera?) then find the file on your Prophet and install the rest is in the readme file.
ah shoot just read your running vista so probably not that! nevermind its something to try!
thanks for that, managed to put some videos on without the device crashing at long last
Hello, I would like to ask if someone knows a way how to sync video, music files, photos, documents automatically with files in the PC. I would like to take advantage of the speed of the USB 3.0 of the the Note 3. Its like when you connect the phone to PC it will compare two folders (in PC and in the phone) automatically and copy/paste the files.
I used to use cheetah sync, but it uses wifi, which is very slow and most of the time stops/fails after a while of transferring.
Thanks!

I do not know any sync program but I just wanted to point out that the USB 3.0 doesn't make it any faster in this case because of the internal read/write speed is lower that USB 2.0 maxlimit.
AFAIK they added USB 3.0 to allow fast charging through a computer with USB 3.0 port.
Are you able to have access to the phone through USB 3 port ?
Mine doesn't show on the PC Explorer... but it is charging pretty fast through this port.
I don't know if actually it is an issue on my phone or my PC (drivers?) as I don't have any other USB 3 devices...

There is a special mode on the phone called "allow file transfer through usb 3.0" or something that you need to click to access the phones filesystem through your computer.
So MTP is unreliable and not always fast, wireless transfer with AirDroid and the like isn't always reliable or really fast, Mi Drop and other FTP solutions are in the same bag. I really miss the old USB mass storage mode, as it is fast and allows proper file management.
I stumbled upon this section under developer settings (default USB connection mode or sth like that), but I have yet to try it. The first option appears to be just regular MTP, what would MIDI be?
And what are your other suggestions for the fastest or smoothest file management between the phone and a PC?
FTP over AC wifi is my way to go for transferring files, i get around 40 MB which is fast enough for me, that is probably the speed limit for the memory used for this phone, because i get much higher speed on my laptop.
By the way i'm using Solid explorer built in ftp client to connect to an HDD (shared using ftp and samba) by my router
I have not yet installed USB driver on Windows Laptop.
With WLAN 802.11n connection over MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.12 to RN7 Hotspot (2.4 Ghz) I get transfer rates of 5-6 MB/s. 5 Ghz Hotspot seems not supported by my Laptop.
I could connect USB-C 2.0 (OTG) loading cable to either USB 2 or USB 3 on the Laptop.
Is it even possible to reach 20-30 MB/s over USB (like for external Drives connected trough USB2) or at least substantially better then 5-6 MB/s over the WLAN I have?
After applying a trick in Device Manager I was able to intall the USB MTP Driver.
I tried the transfer of a 1.7 GB file and the speed was 16-20 MB/s, so better then WLAN on the RN7 device.
