AVOID GPRS on htc 8525 for using wifi only? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

hi guys, does anyone know how to avoid GPRS on HTC 8525 and using only wifi whenever want to access to internet?
I have one more question. how can i use 3G on HTC 8525?
Sry for asking too much because i am a newbie. thank you very much.

3G is the gprs part of your connection.
To use wifi you need access to an active wireless router that you can connect to. If its a private network (for home or businesses) you will need a key (wep security) though you might be lucky enough to find a free wireless access point near where you are.
Sorry if this garbled at all, LONG day and need fooood...
Cheers...

Newbie question on Wlan

I have recently purchased an XDA 2i (Via o2 (cheapest contract)) and I would like to use wlan ocassionally through the odd hotspot, but on looking at the o2 site (www.o2.co.uk/wlan) I.ve discovered that to use o2 wlan, the cost would be ludicrous - bearing in mind that I would only be using the service very infrequently.
I was wondering if there was another way around this problem, such as a pre-pay card or something.
If there is, I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction on setting the xda 2i up for the service.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Bobaro.
wlan is just wirelan networking
if you get a sniffer you may be able to use
open wifi networks or unsecure wifi networks
or get yourself a home wifi internet router if
those rare times you need it you happen to be at home too

8125 wifi (please help)

Hi,
I just purchased the htc 8125 from cingular at full retail WITHOUT a plan
for use on my trips to Hong Kong using my sim card from a Hong Kong
provider.
While in the USA I would like to use the 8125 to access the internet without
a sim card installed and without cingular service. Wifi does recognize available
networks but I cant open any web pages.
Can you please tell me how to configure the phone to do this. I believe it is
by default programmed to use cingular's access services but I want to configure it to work as a stand alone device similar to a laptop looking for wifi signals to connect to the web.
Please help! Thank you.
David
WiFi is not configured to be used with anything of cingular...WiFi is a standalone feature in the PDA...the reason that you couldn't see a web page could possibly mean that the network you connected to had a WEP encryption...u must connect to an open network in order for it to work...
try this
I have been having problems with my wifi too...the only way that I can get it to work is to say the wifi connects to 'work' and to say that programs connecting to the internet should connect using 'My Work Network'
Turn on your WiFi
Start->Settings->'Connections' tab->WiFi or Network Cards->tap the network you want to use->under 'connects to:' chose: 'Work'->next->next->finish->ok
Start->Settings->'Connections' tab-> Connections->'Advanced' tab->programs connecting to the internet should connect using: 'My Work Network'->ok
hope this will work for you and if anyone knows how I can get around having to change this every time I want to go from GPRS to WiFi I would be much appreciated.
Haha - I just found it...someone else just posted it

Block net access via 3G network, D810 - WM5

hey all,
Quick question, is it possible to block the D810 from using Optus 3G network to connect to the net?
I only want to use Wifi due to the charges that optus dish out when using their network.
Any ideas?
Thanks heaps
Hello,
I had the same problem with the 3G because when I open a internet explorer, it connects automatically to the 3G network.
The solution is on the forum : take a program named Bandswitch that allows you to turn off 3G, HSDPA, GPRS etc. That will save you some money and autonomy for your Trinity
hey,
thanks for the reply.
Does the program also stop connection to send MMS though?
thanks
ok cancel the question.
I actually called Optus (and the guy was helpful!!! OMG!!) all sorted.
Just deleted the Optus setting in the ISP and that is all, still can send MMS's but no net access.
thanks.
For anyone else interested, the answer to the earlier post is that Bandswitch can be set to allow/disallow each of the connections individually, so you can block the Mobile Internet APN, but still allow MMS and/or WAP depending on how things are configured by your Telco.

Wifi or tmobile data network?

I'm still waiting for my tmobile mda to arrive and I have some questions about it. When your using aim or other instant chatting programs, how do you know if their connection is through wifi instead of the expensive tmobile data network? Does the internet explorer use the data network or wifi? I'm just want to know so I avoid getting a 200 page bill from tmobile. Thanks
good question, because t mobile default program it to connect through thier expensive network. i removed my t mobile settings and set up my router with a wep key to allow my mda to the net.
if you need more help please let me know

internet sharing while phone call

Hi,
I have a problem, while I share internet connection and make a phone call the phone change the connection technology form HSDPA to GPRS. How can I disable this function because I want to use fast internet connection even when I make phone call?
Using GPRS should not disable a HSPA connection. You can still browse the internet whilst on a phone call, which is exactly that.
You mentioned sharing the internet connection. Are you saying that you want to use the internet connection from your phone on another device whilst you're making a call?
I share the internet connection to my pc. I usually use vnc client through vpn tunnel and make phone call to describe something to my client. When the conversation starts the connection is changed form hsdpa to gprs. Gprs is too slow for vnc or remote desktop so I need HSDPA.
I know I can use GPRS and HSDPA or 3G at the same time, so this may be an issue with your network provider. Personally, I don't think this info will help me help you in the slightest, but it may help someone else help you...
What network are you with?
Is (was) your phone locked?
Where are you?
That info may well be relevant, as I do know that some setups can mean that you can only use one connection at a time, whereas most mean you can use multiple connections.
I'm form Poland and my operator is orange pl. What is strange hd2 is my second htc device. Previous device tytn II works without any problems also in orange network.
I have a question as well! I'm on tmobile and I live in south florida and I cant talk and use Internet at the same time, why not?
Turn off the Autodisconnect option. i had the same problem, as long this was turned on.
where can I find this option?
i had a problem when i was on a call. my Msn will disconnect after a few mins of call. any idea how to stay connect ?
