I've got an O2 XDA Stellar on PAYG and I've bought the £7.50 "Web Bolt On". Thanks to a CAB I downloaded somewhere I've now able to view the web pages, but nothing else works: IMAP, MSN, weather updates etc. Needless to say I didn't pay 7.50 just to squint at web pages on a tiny screen!
Does anyone know if it's possible to get these other services working and what I would have to do to configure it?
If not I suppose I'll have to abandon my call credit and ditch this mob for 3!
Cheers in advance for any help if you can give it.
you need the full o2 prepay settings installing in the device, comes as default with postpay as, through o2 the xda aint availabe on pay and go.
call cust sservices they will email the step by step to you
Thanks. I've already been on the phone to O2 and once they established that the Stellar isn't available on PAYG they couldn't help me. I downloaded a CAB which gives me prepay settings but it only works for websites.
I paid for the bolt on and they sent me some simple settings in my email to make sure i had the right settings and i could use everything fine
Slightly odd but i would assume its because i am pay monthly

It has been suggested to me that O2 PAYG do not offer the full internet access for the users, I can not confirm this as I am not an O2 customer. Though some people say that the PM settings work (I suppose its just a trial and error thing) .
Both settings can be found here, hope it helps...

o2 pay and go do not offer the full internet to their customers, you either have to upgrade to pay monthly or get a contract, or have as you say , a half baked version of the net where you can only surf some web pages and not be able to use msn or email etc.
I wouldnt bother with 3 either as they are pathetic, half the time you cant even get a phone signal ,let alone a 3g signal.
Thanks everyone. I've already bought the 3 SIM so I have nothing to lose by trying them. If they turn out to be rubbish - not unlikely it would seem - I'll have to think again.
Mate, how long the battery lasts with active use of unlimited web and regular calls and messaging in hours?
i can leave GPRS on all day long with msn running whilst making calls and receiving messages etc..
battery goes down to about 70%
I've not used GPRS much yet. I know that with GPS/satnav on the battery ran out after about 4 hours or so. I've bought a cheapo car charger off eBay so it won't happen again (and some replacement styluses, cheap but they're a bit of a tight fit).
Have you TRied the O2 Simplicity Package which can include Web access
Hi Guys,
Have you heard of th O2 Simplicity Package offered by O2?
I went from an O2 pay monthly contract to the Simplicity Deal.
You are commited to 30 days only.
I pay £20 per month, I receive:
400 any network voice minutes (i often select my 3 montly treat as 20 extra minutes to bring it up to 420 mins),
1000 Text Messages
UNLIMITED WEB ACCESS FROM MY PDA!!! as a free bolt on.
I was originally offered umlimited O2 - O2 calls. But later opted for the free internet as it was more of a cost saving for me.
And I get the full access with my web settings.
You will find it on the O2 Website, well advertised as the Simplicity plan at different levels.

While we are on topic of settings - need a serial number
Hi again folks,
While we are on the topic of web settings.
I have just bought an HTC TYTN II, I would like to install the O2 Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM, I prefer the O2 ROM as all the settings are pre-programmed and the layout are as O2 expect them so I can call them for Tech support.
Unfortunately, I cannot access the file as I don't have the O2 version (the XDA STELLAR) and you need to enter your O2 XDA STELLAR Serial Number to access it.
Is there any kind person out there that might be willing to PM (message) me with a serial number of an XDA STELLAR that I could enter to get the file please.
Hoping someone can help me,
Thanks Folks,
wirralot
PS: Isn't the TYTN II / XDA STELLAR just the BEST phone ever!!

I was on the phone to o2 UK for 15mins today trying to enable MMS on my handset. Is is not possible! o2 will not allow the use of GPRS and MMS together. You can enable MMS but must disable GPRS. I asked if they had any plans to enable the use of both. The woman on the other end said no!!
My Serial Cable is on order. My contract runs out in August. Change of providers me thinks. Maybe orange and the Sony p800, just for fun...
[I also use my sim chip in a Siemens S55, hence the MMS request]
What experience if any have other people had trying to enable MMS please lets see what I am doing wrong...

I've had exactly the same problem here. Being rather annoyed by this state of affairs, I spent a good three hours repeatedly calling both O2 and Carphone Warehouse to try and get a decent response as to why this was not possible.
The responses fell into two camps:
1) Technical problems - "GPRS takes all the available slots so MMS can't push messages through". This smells like BS to me, even though I got this answer from fairly clued up tech support people on the data team. After all, it's virtually impossible to keep a permanent GPRS connection going at present, so if I'm not using GPRS, why ever should I not be able receive MMS?
2) Simple administration problems on the billing system - it's currently impossible for the O2 accounts to have both a GPRS data plan and MMS activated purely due to red tape in the billing system. This seems more likely to me. Expecially as one can get MMS activated, but have to 'downgrade' GPRS to a pay as you use service at £5/MB. That's an active GPRS and MMS service by my reckoning - it's got to be red-tape.
I was told 'unofficially' that they were looking into this and had a very loose date of end of May for this silly situation to be rectified. However, we all know how loose O2's deadlines are - EUU3 was released in March, with no file in the installation dated after November.
I even got a semi-official email (quoted below), but this, IMHO, is plain confused as the proposed solution quotes a Rom update. If unavailability is due to "necessary changes taking place on our network systems" then why would it require a client side ROM update? Basically, I beleive this just refers to the availability of EzWap 2.5 from O2.
Re. your query on MMS usage on the Xda.
After mailing the relevant people concerned, I have the following information..
MMS will not work with the Xda at this moment in time due to necessary changes taking place on our network systems (no timescales to hand).
(This would possibly account for your Service Provider being unable to provision MMS for you at this time).
O2 are also driving to have MMS available for the Xda in the next few months - possibly as part of the next ROM after 3.16.32 (currently in testing).
I hope this helps..

I changed my data plan from 13.99 for 3mb, to £2.25 (maybe £2.95 I forget because of my frustration!) per 1MB, PAYG. This is one hell of a saving for me. So if I try again, I should be able to get MMS enabled. Confused!
I asked specifically:
"I cannot use GPRS and MMS on the same phone"
02 "no, you will have to disable gprs".
At the price I have been quoted for PAYG 5MB is less than £15. So I'm on a better deal?
Is there any official, or accurate information on this please.
Martin
Guys,
I have just spoken to O2, and there is another system that they use that will allow GPRS & MMS to co-exist on the same tariff. It's called the "die" system, and involves you "porting" your number to a different customer base within O2.
Sound daft to me - but heres the catch. You have to be out of contract, i.e. over the 12 months initial period. In my case it is this Sept. So I will be chasing them then.
Ho Hum.

The issue is one of service providers.
O2 stores are OK - generally you can just about get what you're after.
But, if you bought your kit from dixons or Carphone, they don't have to offer MMS and GPRS, even if O2 support it! stupid, huh? guess it will cost money offering services people want.
Now, if O2 direct can't do it then that's pretty ****.
I have an O2 SIM from an O2 shop, which has MobileWeb and MMS enabled (bought with a 7650). Slips easily into an xda...
But, MMS on xda is prety poor... :?
mms
i got mine from o2 and they have said that i cant have mms and gprs as the xda cant deal with the both ????????????? :?:
> the xda cant deal with the both
Of course it can. This seems to be just a techno-BS-excuse to try and put off potential users. OK so the XDA probably can't receive a WAP push message for an MMS when GPRS is in use, but then, it can't maintain a permanent GPRS connection anyway.
IMHO the reason they don't allow both tarrifs is purely administrative.
mms
sounds like excuses i am currently on rom 3.16 and i have had my xda for a few weeks. o2 arent very helpfull and they shouldnt be selling this product if they cant provide the support for it 8)

you cant use mms on the xda its not possible to get the correct Ezwap 2.5 connection and mms settings for this program to work in the UK. If any one can help then email: [email protected]. cheers

Not excuses at all. The XDA does not support MMS features 'out of the box' and without using no UK Acredited software (acredited in Asia & Australisia). If O2 don't wish to support a 'feature' that was not advertised as being part of the package, then that is down to them. They never said it would work in the first place.
If you download the o2 gprs settings direct from their site its free!
They are currently running a free use with fair use policy of course.
I'm using a t610 with this no problems.
Good hunting...
I work for the Aberdeen O2 store and we have came acros this problem with a few of the billing agents.
CCL and Cell ops I believe to be the worst at this. There is no plans for them upgrading there system and you should leave them if you want the XDA2 or any other phone to run the gprs and mms at the same time.
The O2 stores now use a new billing company the same one for o2 online connections and I got my XDA2 through them and it works mms and gprs fine.
There are loads of billing compaines within o2 carphone warehouse and singlepoint seem to be the worst.
Also please note that o2 direct is normally your billing agent and there really **** when it comes to knowledge on the XDA's.
Us boys in the Aberdeen store know our stuff so if your stuck just pop in past it's probly a fair bit away from everone but its a nice drive up here

I had the same explaination from O2 after some 6.5 hours on the phone over the course of a week.
I'm a pay monthly customer - they told me the tarrif was incompatible.
After some complaining, one of the guys in the data services dept turned MMS on, and sent an email to the billing dept.
two days later I had a text message saying it was all up and runing.
I have tried it, and it works. I have MMS & GPRS
now if only I could get this bloody SanDisk SD Wifi card to work !!!
i am recently deciding whether to part with my cash and buy a xda 2. First of all are they worth it? Also would i be able to use a pay as you go sim card from a samsung v200? which does have gprs as it has o2 active i was just wondering as i do not really want to go to a pay monthly plan
thnaks in advance
How much you paying for it? It will work with the sim you have as long as its an O2 phone, if not you can unlock it for free.
it will probably be £270 unlocked and yes i have a o2 sim card
You won't be able to take advantage of the full internet GPRS, I had no end of trouble trying to connect to MSN and websites outside of 02 active, even after numerous phone calls to 02, they never got this sorted out.
As far as I know, on a pay as you go simcard, you cannot benefit from full internet access with o2.
ye but is'nt there a way of changing the setting or something i heard you can do that to make it go on the internet
well can you plzz tell me so i can decide whether to get one
I have a PAYG vodafone in my xda2. Ive only just got the phone and still havent worked out how to get internet access on it. I downloaded vodafone's 'connect me' software and that buggered my actviesync connection so i had to uninstall it....
I would like to say that yes this is very possible.
I had my old XDA I and XDA II on pay and go with O2 I had full internet and full GPRS though it took alot of time to get the settings but I managed it. the only annoying this is when you send a text it tells you your credit about 5 times. I have now got the XDA IIi and the sim also works with this.
conclusion is that yes it can be done and its not hard either. just change the ISP and work connection
cheers can to share the setting for the xda 2 if you know them as if i get one i might need them trying to get my parents to pay half for my birthday present lol
I paid USD $600 for O2 XDA II 2 months ago.
But it's worth.
I'm using it in programming Pocketpc application, capture Discovery from my PC then copy it to my SD 512 MB and view in PocketPC when go to sleep, listen MP3s, use softwares...
It's a nice XDA man !

There used to be a way, by changing the Proxy settings, but this does not work for newer SIM's.
O2 PAYG SIM's less than 18 months old (I think) can only access WAP via GPRS.
Cost: Expect to pay £200-£250 for a good condition XDA II on Ebay (just got £235 for mine, but some have gone for as little as £180)
well my sim card is from a samsung v200 which was brought new about november 2003 which has gprs on it, but now am not sure although i suppose if it does not work i should be able to pick on up easily from a store somewhere
Anyone have the Voda settings for GPRS/MMS? I'm on O2 and the reception around here is hit and miss, but Voda is always spot-on. I've a PAYG card that's data-enabled, I just need the settings for the XDAII.
Hi
Thought i would share my findings about O2 and payandgo sim cards. Several people have provided me with gprs settings all of which seem to work but don't fully then meschle (cheers) explained things.
O2 payandgo gprs access is restricted and will allow things like basic browsing but not msn email checking. i have phoned them to confirm this.
So if you are on O2 payandgo trying to get the best out of your wizard or indeed any xda then... sod then off and go for Orange!
orange have a simular deal but better. 10quid min topup, 300texts something else and 1meg gprs every month! if you add a gprs option it costs £4 from your monthly £10. so every month you would get 300textsa £6 to spend on calls and a stonking 5meg gprs.
the sims only cost £1 to order from the orange website, i have tested it all working getting your O2 number changed to orange is dead easy and only takes a week.
the hours i have spent messing with O2 gprs!!!!!! thought i would try to save other people from doing the same.
Get an Orange PayAndGo Sim card for free...
http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/simevent/film
...and you have to enter a code at the bottom which is "film" without the quotes
Note: this is just to get the simcard for free! Everything else RJWebb has mentioned above regarding monthly topup still applies!
i did the same, moved from o2 to orange.
Im on the free text top up rate (which you should ask for as they dont automatically put you on it).
I always top up around £30 in the month, convert £8 to 8MB GPRS web access (2 x £4 chunks), i get 1000 free texts(for topping up £30) and 1MB free GPRS, making 9MB total
The other £22 is calls and extra texts (which I buy at £5 for 150 so 3p each)
Another thing to do if you are new is call up to get picture messaging to be activated and they give you 30 free pic messages for one month only.
Highly recommended
The only 'problem' i have is if i send or receive a picture message so connect to the orange mms server, I cannot access gprs web then until I do a soft reset. The same happens in reverse too, if I have been on the web/msn/whatever I cannot then send or receive a pic message until I do a soft reset. I didnt get this problem on o2 and havent been able to uncover the reason for this.
does anyone have a cab file for the orange gprs and mms settings? i'm gonna move to orange from o2 cheers
Rob

I couldnt get any one particular cab set of settings to work, i think i installed one and then just tweaked it until it 'happened'
Thanks for the cab file with a few changes it works
real internet access at last cheers guys!

o2 benefits
but swapping to orange u lose your 200 anytime any network min plus 1 meg download if 300 text
all costing me just 10.00, so I can't decide why 30.00 on pay as you go what benefit . one question if u swop your no. from a sim do both sims then have the same no.ie any one can phone me and catch me on either sim on one no.
Hello, I apologise if this is the wrong place to post, but I was wondering if anyone knew anything about purchasing the universal/XDA EXEC from O2. (By the way, if it makes a difference, this is in the UK)
I was really hoping to get an O2 XDA Exec for myself, with a data only tariff (such as the O2 Data 200) in order to be able to access the internet when away from home, WIFI spots and landlines so I can use things such as terminal services, SSH, email and web browsing. The thing is, I was mainly hoping to get it for myself, rather than a business buying it for me or me buying it for a business, but from the looks of their website it looks as if it's only open to businesses.
Does anyone know if it's possible for an individual to purchase this phone along with a data tariff? It certainly didn't seem to be possible from their website - Furthermore, any idea how much it would cost? Costs for the tariffs were available but not for the phone, despite me having searched far and wide trying to find an answer.
Thankyou in advance
Hi,
You are better off getting the MDA Pro on a Web 'n' Walk tariff. MDA Pro is exactly same as the XDA Exec. I have a MDA Pro and and XDA Exec. I am looking to swap or sell MDA Pro.
I use my XDA Exec with T-mobile sim with Web 'n' Walk Professional which gives you unlimited (actaully capped at 2GB) access to the internet - which should be more than enough for anyone's mobile need.
If you need any further advise, feel free to email me on [email protected]
The phone is available to anyone that can afford it. Its not just for businesses. Pop in to your local o2 shop or ring o2 sales and they will advise you on the price. Though i'm not entirely certain you will be able to purchase it on a "Data Only" tariff.
Thanks
Thanks a lot for the replies
Are Data tariffs only available to businesses? There website is somewhat confusing, but the data tariffs are listed in the normal tariffs section ( http://www.o2.co.uk/mobilestariffs/tariffs/datatariffs )
I was giving T-Mobile a look and their plan was attractive admitedly - however, I run an IRC network and I would have liked to be able to go in and check it's running and talk to my server admins there, which T-mobile said wouldn't be possible. Furthermore, the T-mobile conditions stated you cannot use it for 'modem access for computers' wheras I would have liked to have been able to plug it in to my PC and use the internet from there rather than just on the PDA (I understand the Universal has a 'wireless modem' feature)
Thanks
I have an o2 branded (hardware and software) XDA Exec (it's unlocked). My current contract is coming to an end, so I am looking for a new contract. I am thinking about buying a contract with 3. However, I would like to keep my current phone even if the new contract includes a phone. My question is: can I put the sim in my XDA Exec? What functionality would I be able to expect? Would I be able to make phone calls, send and recieve text messages, make video calls, send and recieve picture messages etc.?
Yep, works fine, i've used my 3 sim before! Just need to add the correct connection details for the 3 portal etc.
though the three network will work . i will not recommend it because three network states do not use anyother phone with there sim cards.
Also my nokia 6230i and nokia 3220 both were working with three but they blocked them after two weeks.
so think before you use it;...
3 now have the Qtek version of Exec on their network so theres no reason why you cant use your exec now. I've never had a problem with another 3G phone on the network. The only problem that sometimes seems to occur is when the 3G SIM is put in a non 3G phone - itworks for a while then after draining too much power (as 3G SIM is higher rating than GPRS SIM) it kills the phone.... Why not just pop into a 3 shop though or call customer services?
i'm trying to dig out connection details to three. Could anybody shed some light? I've x-series addon and it would be nice if i can get it on my universal
thanks, sorted out! excellent one, i'm able to use msn messenger & web browsing. now it's time to check skype
Edit:SKYPE also works perfectly.

you might find http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-266774.html useful it shows the settings.
