Wanted: Get alert, when GPRS no more available - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I am searching for an app, that gives me a sound-alert, when I do not have an GPRS-connection anymore, because there is no more signal.
Or, when there is no more GSM-signal, for example in a building, and I cant receive anymore phone calls because of this.
Thank You

Nobody any idea?

PhoneAlarm should be able to give you a notification, when your signal is low, or unavailable.

I will look at it, thank You very much.
Any other ideas?

if your phone supports it, a setting is available in alerts and sounds.
you can set a alert and sound when the connection has been broken or lost.

Wow, which phone supports that?
Unfortunatly my HTC Touch does not....

I'm using Nav n Go 8, an when I loose my GPS connection it tells me, so I'm not too sure what navigation software your using, but that alone should work.

Sorry, but its not GPS, but GPRS I was asking for.......

GSM/GPRS and Roam

Hi,
I've been having problems getting some cellular info for my program. In both cases I open a tapi line to the "Cellular Line" device...
Problem 1:
I am trying to use lineGetCurrentSystemType() in extapi to get information about the current connection type. In other words I want to know if the phone currently has GPRS or GSM capability. I can successfully open the line, but everytime I call lineGetCurrentSystemType() I get LINEERR_OPERATIONFAILED. Can anyone help with this, or offer a better solution?
Problem 2:
I want to know if the phone is roaming, or on its home network. I've been using lineGetLineDevStatus() from TAPI, but dwRoamMode is always LINEROAMMODE_UNAVAIL. Can anyone tell me how to get the roaming status?
Thanx,
Blair.
PS. For those that have been asking, lineGetLineDevStatus() also has a dwSignalLevel property that I've been using to get the signal strength / signal level of the "Cellular Line" device.
Just a quick question
Hope you don't mind me asking but....
Reading your P.S. I was wondering how difficult it would be to use the Get Signal Strength Call to provide an alert when Mobile Signal is lost, just a load beep/beeps would do. I rely entirely on my mobile for work. I have to be contactable at all times. On my old Motorola V66 I could set an alert tone to inform me when I have no signal, but there does not seem to be any way to do this with the XDAII!
Any info (or a working app) would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

Xda II, Phone Edition or Moble Network Problem ??

I've had this problem for some time now and I have no words to describe this symptom ... I know I'm not alone as I know a few other people have the same problem:
The signal bar on Xda II shows ok, green LED still flashes like normal, even my Phone Dashboard showed that I'm connected to my mobile operator with signal strength >90% ... Nothing is suspicious until you start making calls, everything stays at "Dialing ..." and there will be no dialing tone !!! Make another call, same ...
Then you'll use the landline to call yourself on the mobile, it goes to the voice message ... All those time, you were actually not connected to the mobile network! When you realise this, the only remedy is to turn on and off Wireless / Flight Mode.
Now, have you had similar experience ?
I think, somehow the mobile network lost you, and Xda II didn't even notice it therefore did not bother to reconnect as it thought it was still connected. Is this it ? Or anyone has any other theory or solution to this irritating problem ~ which I genuinely have no idea who to blame ?
i think i know what the problem is
 try to download and install this software,
http://www.gb-soft.cz/xdaii/product_gprs_tweak_en.htm
and in "gprs settings", disable "gprs always online", and set it to "search gprs on start gprs connection".
that way, you will be connected to your operator as simple gsm phone, not a gprs one.
the mobility managment in this status (imsi attached, instead of combined attached) is more simple to the network, and you won't lose service.
Hope it will solve your problem,
please update...
Tomer
thanks i have downloaded it and installed, and set the "GPRS always on" to false, but the other one was default ticked ("Search GPRS on start GPRS conn").
i will start my observation today and see if the problem reproduce itself.
Chris
did this solve it for you?
Coming into the 8th day with this Tweak installed, with GPRS set to search on GPRS start (not radio start). So far, the network problem has not occured. I would like to give it another 2 to 3 weeks before announcing the problem solved.
However, just one little note, after installing the Tweak ... a day or two I noticed that the BT Icon no longer shows on the main screen task bar even after numerous soft reset. Not sure what causes it.

Qtek around speakers

Hello,
I tried searching the forum and couldn't get a result for my problem, that's why I'm posting here.
My Qtek causes the speakers PC speakers in the office and at home to produce that typical sound distortion. I don't know the correct term in english, but you know what I'm talking about - when the mobile phone rings and there are speakers turned on around it the speakers produce that annoying sound.
Well, mine doesn't do it only when it's ringing. It does it all the time (every 10-15 seconds). As you might guess this is really annoying to me and my colleagues at work. I tested it and it's difinately the phone causing it, since I have all other wireless options turned off. I've never experienced this issue with my previous phones and noone at the office has the same problem. I'm really baffled. I guess it does that every time it pings the mobile network, but since I'm not a techie I don't really know how to fix this.
Has anyone experienced that with the Qtek, or any other phone for that matter? How do I fix it? Right now I have to turn off my phone while at work...
Regards,
are you connected to gprs by any chance? even if you are it shouldn't make thAt sound unless theres data transfer. if your not connected to gprs, not recieving/making a call or message then i'd say your phones refresh rate of the cell signal is too fast. how to change that, i don't know but could have to do with your sim card.
also u could simply turn your speakers off.
i just thought of this but do you have "Broadcast Channels" on?
Not just me then i wondered what was going on!!
i drive a wagon with cb radio installed and what seems to be every minute or so i get the same noise.it gets worse when i connect to gprs so bad i have to turn cb off.
never had this problem with c500.
any ideas anyone?

GPRS is off. "Broadcast Channels" is disabled. Unfortunately turning off the speakers is not an options since they're essential to my work.
Hmm, do you think it could be the SIM card and a simple change of mobile service provider might fix that?
Regards,
again, i'm not a pro on this topic, but if you could get a hold of another sim card from a friend and plug it into your device and see if it stops doing that then your sim card is the problem. so try a couple cards out, one from your provider and one from another provider and see what happens.
My Qtek 9100 does this sound every 10 minutes or so. But I've experiensed that the sound disappears when I move the phone into a better location. I've found a couple of places in my room where this sound doesn't appear. Best way to find such place is to make a phone cal and then while the phone is calling just move it around and see where that annoying sound disappears.
Hope this helps you too. I can imagine that sound driving you mad, as it can be heard so often... For me 4-5 times in an hour was too much.

Two Questions here, please help

ok i asked this in thread before
1. how can i make it so callers names are displayed when they call me, im talking about callers that are not on my contact list, my previous phone displayed name of callers that werent stored in my contacts, that exactly what i want
2. i have setup garmin mobile gps, everything functions fine, but i dont seem to get satellite signals, im guessing the problem is with how i have the settings connected, in external gps its in port com4..is this correct? or do i need to change it
my quickgps is also updated so that shouldnt be a problem
can some one help me what settings i need to change to recieve satelite signals
thank you
1) If your phone does not have the name of the caller, then it won't display. You can only display callers names if the phone number is in your contact list. I don't know how your previous phone would have been able to show the callers name, for it's impossible.
2) Is google maps working properly? That is to make sure that your GPS on itself works. If so, I guess that your settings inside garmin should somehow be set to "internal GPS" (I can do that in TomTom). Unless you're using an external GPS dongle ofc.

it is very possible, i had most of my phones in the past show caller names, without being contacts
2. google maps work fine, gps worked fine in there also
just garmin cant seem to find signals when i open up garmin app,, weird that its garmin im using in google maps as gps, i think it worked in there
lol how is that possible, don't see any logic in that. the only logic i see is if the contact exist in either the phone or sim.
well any help with the gps please?
in garmin settings i have selected com4, same thing in external gps settings
but maybe i need to change or apply more settings? please help
any one who has garmin on their x1, can you please me tell me what settings you have, how your getting the signals
thank you
any help please?
Well, even if I have not installed Garmin in my xperia, I remember reading something about a problem like this, can't remember if it was garmin specific, but, it regarded the way xperia handles both of the gps functionalities it uses, Agps (assisted gps), uses the gsm radio towers to get a fix of your aproximate position much faster than the standard gps, then the standard gps can calculate with more accurancy -albeit slower- some time later, we're talkin about several minutes here from a "cold" start, any kind of gps applications shoudl work in this way, but not many have adapted yet.
Enough said, there should be a system application to exclude the Agps -that sometimes confuses some gps applications-, in this way you might correct your problem, I think that this utility comes only with the new roms.
Sorry if I can't remember the exact name, but if you search the xperia sub-forum with the gps word, you will find it.
Good luck
i was also just about to refute the names being displayed without being in the contact list but i had a quick look and in canada its a service offered by "rogers" (which i notice gritikal has a logo for) it appears to normally be a paid for service and not all phones will support it. (the iphone doesnt either) basically they act like an intermidary and when a call is made its routed through them and if the details are known they will then transmit the caller name instead of the phone number. if its not workin on the xperia already then i would imagine its not supported, its something that should automatically come up. maybe Rogers would know more...

searched couldnt really find anything related to my problem
any easy steps i can take,,change the port or something?
xperia is built for gps, google maps work fine with gps, i cant just seem to get signals on garmin, google map does get satelittle signals
any one that has garmin installed on their xperia perhaps could help me, i think its just the settings i might have to change
much thanks thought
When you start Garmin, what status bar do you see on the top-left corner? A satellite or signal bar?
If you see a satellite instead of the status bar, then you need to contact garmin about activation details. Your external gps settings or com port on 3,4,5,6,7 doesn't have ANYTHING to do with this.
And IF you want to quickly test your gps working properly, download and install GPStoday (i use for geotagging pictures) and see if you get signal on the GPS.
And make sure you do this outdoors too.

What ROM are you using? And what radio?
I installed Garmin Mobile XT on my fresh out-of-the-box Xperia and couldn't get it to work, Garmin couldn't detect the phone's GPS, even if Google Maps could. (was really pissed since I needed the GPS to find the church for a friends wedding) Then I found this forum and flashed the Generic R2 (NAM), then reinstalled Garmin. Worked like a charm. I have Touch-it 4.0 now (Didn't re-install Garmin since I installed it to the SD card after flashing to R2)
So try uninstalling and reinstalling Garmin, updating ROM, or doing a hard reset then reinstalling. Or even try getting a new installer. Up to now I still don't know why Garmin didn't work the first time, bet I suspect it was either a bad install or the old ROM.
By the way, in my personal experience I've found that QuickGPS and aGPS work well together, I get a satellite lock in 3-5 seconds, and I'm in SE Asia! Probably because we have more cel towers per capita here. I've read conflicting reports on this forum, though, so try and experiment with turning aGPS on/off and using/not using QuickGPS.

GPS and other settings

I have a blackstone and it was originally on the Orange network (UK) I now have it unlocked from orange and have a T-mobile uk sim in there.
I put tomtom sat nav on and havent done much else to it.
For some reason I cant use the tomtom app as it says no gps device, any idea whats going on, or how I fix this. I follew the tom tom installation correctly but it just doesnt pick up any satellites up.
Another thing is my MMS setting are out of wack completely, any idea how I get these fixed, t mobile are unable to help as they dont sell the phone through them.
Anyone got their mms worksing through t mobile uk?
any help would be appreciated
Yes..you have find a big bug in the new rom that you have installed...i think that you have burn the GPS antenna, or the second possibility is that you have to install a new Antenna software..i've a original rom and all is perfect.!!
i havent installed another rom, its the original one that was on the phone, so i couldnt have burnt anything out. i haveng modded the phone in any way just to confirm
I'd try this for the MMS settings:
Tmobile Settings by Email
For the TomTom problem, it is just a case of TomTom not displaying any Satellites, but still getting your location (the screen changes colour and shows your location, to indicate a satellite lock) or does it never give a fix.
Not to insult as I don't know your level of experience with GPS, but try it outside on a clear (not very heavy cloud) day, leaving it stationary for several (upto five I'd say) minutes, and see if it gets a fix?
thansk for the reply,
but the t-mobile link odesnt work as my phone isnt listed there and I cant move forward without selecting one.
The tom tom screen is grey as if it doesnt have any satellites connected to it, I have tried it on a clear day and same no luck.
In the connections tab under where you can switch the bluetooth, wifi etc on, does the data connection also have to be switched on, of is the data connection for something else?
For tomtom:
Go to settings/AGPS settings and make sure it is turned off - this used to stop tomtom working for me until I updated my ROM.
In tomtom, make sure you've selected 'Other NMEA GPS receiver' and COM4 (I found the baud rate does not matter and have it set to the highest value.
thanks all working now, great.
just on a general note, what costs are incurred when we use this, is it free for people with data plans etc

GPS does not cost anything as you are receiving signals from GPS satellites. I don't think you even need a SIM in your phone to use it.
AGPS is data so will come out of your data plan if you have one.

Have you tic the box in the GPS tab (see in the settings) for give the permission to the O.S for taking automatically the control of signal.?
