Not sure if this would work but have you tried changing the power options ? Like not to put the phone to sleep when it is plugged-in ?

That is working for me, however be aware that some carriers will charge the big price for using the WModem.
Bell mobility charges 15$/MB (CAD) for the data connection, the unlimited plan is only for Mobile browsing, email ... and they dont offer any package to use the WModem with the Touch phone.
hey guys i have a problem i also have vodafone connection (india) bt i cannot start my internet sharing ...plz help me
dear friend i also have similar problem please reply if u got solution

When I use the Internet Sharing app, my device is plugged into the computer. I have my power settings set to dim the backlight after ten minutes when plugged in and never power off. That's probably what all ya'all's problem is.
Good Luck.

If you keep GPRS on whilst connecting using WiFi then it will swap to using GPRS if signal drops on wifi connection. This can be expensive if you don't realise it's happened.
I always use the connection manager button beside on/off switch to disconnect GPRS when I'm using WiFi.

But won't that disalble the radio and as a result won't be able to receive calls?

No it won't disable phone. If you use button below on/of button you'll see the phone soft button is seperate from the GPRS connection button that looks like a PDA with two arrows beside it.
So first use this to disconnect GPRS (Phone will still be operational) then go to connections and enable wifi (or do it from tool bar at top of screen).

I always turn my phone off when I am Wi-Fi web browsing as if it swaps over to GPRS or 3G you can have a VERY big bill.
I want to setup my P3600 (English ROM) as a 3.5G modem for my PC but not successful yet. The Telco service staff has no idea too and pass me a manual for dopod 838 pro. The mentioned programs are not there, nor in my dopod D810 CD.
I can:
- Activesync using USB
- Activesync using bluetooth
Question:
- Should I use the same HTC modem dialer on my PC for XDA?
- Should I use the Start->Program->Internet Sharing?. It allows me to choose bluetooth or USB to PC but both not working too after connect.
Anyone successfully connect their PC via P3600 using HSDPA, pls share the steps. Many thanks.
Eventually, I figure it out myself.
Forget all the HTC modem dialer or wireless modem program as in Xda.
1. Start->Program->Internet Sharing on WM5.0
2. Select the connection type: USB or BT
3. Select "Connect"
4. Then connect the USB and done.
For BT, it would have instruction for you to start PAN now. done.
Woo, it's much easier than the HTC dialer. But now my problem is VPN problem with my telco.
Thanks very much for reporting this info back, it will come in useful when I get my trinity!

Sadly, because Internet Sharing is actually a NAT server running on your phone, it could prevent you from using 'classic' VPN. You can find more details by googling for 'VPN over NAT'.
for VPN purposes you can always use old good wireless modem mode. it works well.
I don't think it is related to NAT. As long as the VPN ports are opened, it should work. I am using a Wireless router at home and no trouble at all for using VPN under NAT.
Checked with telco. They can enable it for me with extra charge/month. and also the traffic would be charged as expensive GPRS plan. What kind of service!!!
Think twice before subscribing. I used "WonToFee / 1-1-" . The sales that say it can work for VPN may not even know what a TCP port is.
Anyone has use VPN over HSDPA with another telco? e.g. SMOOTH TONE
Hello,
This thread is a bit old, however I think it is related to my problem: I am trying to use Internet Sharing on my P3600 (ROM 1.23.405.2 / Radio ROM 1.38.00.11). Using BT, it works just fine. However, when connected on USB it works fine only for the first time. When I tap "disconnect", the HSDPA connection is stopped, but the status keeps displaying "Connected". There is now way to use Internet Sharing again before a soft reset (Windows XP wouldn't even recognize the P3600 again). Is this a known issue? I have googled a bit, but I haven't found any similar problems.
Thanks!

Hi shefful,
I have had the same problem. I have come across a possible solution while browsing forums. When you need to disconnect press and hold down the red end call button for a few seconds and this disconnects the modem. I haven't tried this yet but it's worth a shot.
regards
Adam

Hi adamwolfe,
Thanks for your help, unfortunatelly this is not the solution to my problem. The GPRS connection ends (according to the icon on top of the screen), but the status keeps displaying "Connected". The application stops responding and can't be stopped from Settings/Memory/Runnning Programs.
Hi shefful,
Yeah, I have the same problem too. Looks like the program freezes in the Connected status. Even tried terminating Internet Sharing with Start/Settings/.../Memory/Running Programs and relaunching Internet Sharing.
Sometimes I get a popup message saying the remote host has terminated the connection before the program hangs. I think this may be the cause of the problem. Which mobile operator are you on?
Rebooting is the only solution so far. Fortunately the Trinity reboots in 20 seconds - one of the fastest in the PPC market I think.
Hi ayhansan,
For other reasons I needed to hard reset my Trinity and the freezing problem has disappeared. I don't know what had caused this problem, I just hope it won't happen again. If I disconnect the USB cable, the status changes to "disconnected" and I can always reconnect.
same problem here
i am connecting to laptop thru USB
after I disconnect UMTS phone syaing still connected
and want kill Internet Sharing
???

I've got one question-can i use my HD2 as internet connect center
becouse i have one notebook which doesnt support wi-fi,so can i connect phone+notebook with usb cable and got an internet to my notebook ?
I'm pretty sure I saw that option when I plugged it into my pc - the Diamond had it for sure and I see no reason to take it out. I don't have my usb cable with me right now to check but take this as a very tentative "yes"
???

When you plug the phone in via USB, it gives you 3 options. The bottom one is "Internet Sharing", and it even says "Use phone as modem" beneath it.
Windows should just detect a USB modem and use it.

Yeah, only 2G I'm afraid.
But, to get the wifi you'd need either to find an unsecured wifi connection, or you'd need to know the passkey. Can't you just get a wifi usb dongle for your netbook?
Edit:
I know this is Hong Kong, and only posts to a few places so may be no good to you, but it gives an indication as to how cheap these things are...

Ah I see.
Ah well. Guess you'll be browsing on your phone then
In fairness, this is the first phone that I've actually enjoyed browsing on, so it's not really a hardship.

Hi Friend,
But I have a little problem with this step that you suggested. As expected, my Windows XP and another Windows Vista laptop does not detect the phone as a modem.
And so, I'm stuck at this stage. Could you suggest me, if there is some driver that I need to install?
Otherwise, my HTC HD2 and HTC Touch connect to active sync and windows device media center.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards,
Mayur Dave.
I bought my HD2 Mini 4 days back.I am really satisfied with it but only one problem persists.I am staying in Dubai and I use a prepaid card.I use the wifi at home to connect to the internet and I dont want the phone to use the Data Connection of my Phone service to connect to the internet.I have already lost lot of money inspite of disabling the data connection in the settings.
Is there any other way that I can disable the settings for the phone not to use the Data Connection or GPRS and give only priority to the WIFI connection to connect to the Internet?
It will be very helpful if someone helps me with this dilemma .
I use a tool called nodate, which works fine for me.
km
Thanks
Thanks KM .I got the software "nodata" and installed it sucessfully.
