I've got one question-can i use my HD2 as internet connect center
becouse i have one notebook which doesnt support wi-fi,so can i connect phone+notebook with usb cable and got an internet to my notebook ?
I'm pretty sure I saw that option when I plugged it into my pc - the Diamond had it for sure and I see no reason to take it out. I don't have my usb cable with me right now to check but take this as a very tentative "yes"
???
okey but how?
netbook is with vista OS

When you plug the phone in via USB, it gives you 3 options. The bottom one is "Internet Sharing", and it even says "Use phone as modem" beneath it.
Windows should just detect a USB modem and use it.

Yeah, only 2G I'm afraid.
But, to get the wifi you'd need either to find an unsecured wifi connection, or you'd need to know the passkey. Can't you just get a wifi usb dongle for your netbook?
Edit:
I know this is Hong Kong, and only posts to a few places so may be no good to you, but it gives an indication as to how cheap these things are...

Ah I see.
Ah well. Guess you'll be browsing on your phone then
In fairness, this is the first phone that I've actually enjoyed browsing on, so it's not really a hardship.

Hi Friend,
But I have a little problem with this step that you suggested. As expected, my Windows XP and another Windows Vista laptop does not detect the phone as a modem.
And so, I'm stuck at this stage. Could you suggest me, if there is some driver that I need to install?
Otherwise, my HTC HD2 and HTC Touch connect to active sync and windows device media center.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards,
Mayur Dave.

Hi!
Is it possible to connect a WM6 PDA via a PC to the internet (over the USB-cable)?
I need to debug an application, and therefore run tcpdump somewhere do examine the packets. If I could route networking over my PC this would be possible.
Thanks!
unless you turn it off then when the pda is connected to activesync it have access to the same network as the pc running activesync

if thats the case then, why have i just received a bill of £22 for mobile data usage, when my kaiser is connected to my pc via usb???am i doing something wrong??if so,what? i'm a novice when it comes to these matters!!lol
maybe you did it the other way... and your pc used your pda as a modem...
on my touch dual...
if you are using the Internet Sharing app, the comp/laptop uses the gprs/3g modem on your pda.
any other time... i think the pda uses the computer's connection by default.
There is a setting somewhere in "Settings" I think, cant remember the exact wording. Sorry... dont have me phone on me.

I welcome your comments, thanks 4 getting in touch.I spoke to 3 different tmobile customer service reps and only after the 3rd person was I any nearer in finding out why i'm being charged for mobile data.i had 1 tmobile CSR try and tell me that tmobile own the wireless network and also that tmobile make the handsets not htc,how ill informed was she???one also siad that if i didnt refresh the page on my pc,then gprs would kick in and that was the reason iwas being charged, they also said i should contact my broadband provider, when i challenged them that i tmobile should not be charging me for mobile data, for using my own broadband, only then did i get passed onto technical advisors. They suggested that i totally erase all gprs settings,of which i had already done the previous night,i then asked them to see if any charges were on my account for yesterday, surprise surprise i'd been charged £1.27,i told them that i had erased all gprs settings,so why were charges still showing up on my account??i was met with your wireless signal is not powerful enough,of which i said hogwash because my next door neighbour can connect from her house,so i cant see as to how my signal is too weak for me to connect my kaiser or wizard to.They have rescinded all charges, but i cant understand for the life of me,if i aint got gprs settings, how can i still be charged by tmobile for using my own home network???might need to call ghostbusters!!LOL

I had a hard time with this too. turned out to be an issue with the ROM I was using... here's how it should work, if you have any issues I can help you on msn just add me pete(at)peteandsteph(dot)ca
1) browse the phone from the mac, it should discover a "network access point" when it browses the phone. make sure that's ticked, you can remove the other checkmark for use the phone as a modem.
2) click the bluetooth icon at the top right of your screen on the mac, scroll down to your phone, go over to "connect to network".
3) on the phone open internet connection sharing, choose bluetooth PAN as the method, then click connect.
4) surf the net from the mac.
*note, you can connect ICS before or after you connect to the phone from the Mac, it makes no difference.
thanks evader, but thats the opposite of what im looking for...i want to get internet on my phone using the internet from my mac, i do not have the data plan so i would like to make it work by having the bluetooth on my mac supply the internet...
im gunna install bootcamp and cuz im pretty sure i can get it to work the activesync because it will connect them for you...
I dont believe this works with the Touch, I know I got it to work with the Mogul
oh sorry, I used to do that with my treo 650 through missing sync. Might be worth looking into.
hi,
does anybody know if we can use internet from pc on the x1 via bluetooth...
i tried finding on google but in vain...can anybody help me regarding this...
ps: i am aware that we can use internet connection via usb cable...what i want to know is that can we use it via bluetooth...and whats the procedure...
thanks in advance...
so many views and no replies???
i really only think it will work the other way around. if you have 3g using the x1 as a bluetooth modem so you can get internet on your pc. unless you have a highspeed internet connection on your pc that isn't already wireless, in which case you can buy a usb wifi adapter for pretty cheap. i dunno if this was any help...
bleh. disregard most of that. i'm sleepy... i only read half. yes it is possible to use your phone as a bluetooth modem though
thanks dude...
the thing is that i hav a really fast pc connection and its cheap...whereas the phone internet service is costly...so i was just wondering if its possible...(net fron pc to phone via bluetooth)
thanks anyways...cheers
Actually there is a way.....
If you establish an bluetooth active-sync connection.
You should be able to surf the net via the bluetooth connection...
But it is still more efficient to go by wi-fi....
Stuart
awesome dude...ill check it rightaway..thanks
doesnt work...detects the serial port..but connection fails..
I know that with Palm OS PDA we used Mocha PPP, perhaps you can give it a try.
Else perhaps an adhoc connection if you want to try Wifi.
yes being connected to activesync with bluetooth give the phone the network access of the pc
been doing it since i had an old wm2003 device
or you can do this if you dont want to use activesync

Try initial the BT detection from yr PC (or the other way as I don't remember.). The "serial port" will be replaced w/ ActiceSync eventually.
It does work but it depends on your contract
The carrier company can tell if you are browsing through your phone or using internet sharing. I am on O2 and it does not have this, but if I put my T-Mobile sim card in, it works fine. PC's use higher bandwidth and this costs the mobile companies.
If you want to use it, I recommend using the USB lead as bluetooth and 3G connection will abuse your battery.
To use, press start, programs internet sharing. You can only use it if you have activesync on your pc, USB mode is activesync and your mobile provider lets you.

he want to do the opposite he want to surf using his computers internet not
letting his computer use his phone internet
so i was right the first time. all he needs is a usb wifi adapter.

something kind of like that
and you won't even have to use bluetooth after you set it up. just turn on your wifi in the comm manager

This method may not work anymore since PAN client is being removed in recent WM release. You may need to try this to get PAN client working. I posted my working experience over there w/ my Att tilt. But this method require a lot more effort to get it working compare to activesync.

i thought the bluetooth internet sharing only works one way...?
if you go to internet sharing on the phone, you choose bluetooth pan and then a connection that your phone uses to connect to the internet. that's not what he wants. someone correct me if i'm wrong and there's another way to do this bc i'm really not sure.
Noticed that, obviously my phone is not in airplane mode, please advise.

Yes...when plugged in via usb it utilizes the internet that is available in the pc and overrides the wi-fi. Unplug the usb cable and the wi-fi should come back on without any interaction on your part.

I'm a little outside of my comfort range here...but...I believe the third option, internet sharing allows the PC to use the HD2 as the internet source. This is referred to as tethering. I'll look forward to someone correcting me if I'm wrong.

Bingo, you are correct
It passes your data connection over to your PC via USB, just like the phone was a modem.
but what if you want to use the phone as the internet source from your laptop? I have wifi in my house and use hotspots when available but what if I have neither available. can I use the phone to connect my laptop to the internet?
if so HOW?
thanks

If your LT does not have a wifi card get one, a using a $30 wifi card is preferable to using a $500 phone as a wifi dongle ...[/QUOTE]
But, yes you can use your phone to access the internet on your laptop , as stated before it is called tethering , it uses the phones data connection not the phones wifi connection ...
The exception to that is , if you run the wifi router app on your phone, not plugged into usb, then you can connect your LT to your phone via wifi ...
So one more time ...
Internet Sharing over USB allows your LT to connect to your phones Data connection not its wifi , wifi will be disabled.
Internet Sharing using the Wifi Router on the phone turns the wifi into a Ad-hoc access point, so your LT can connect to your phone over wifi and use your phones data connection ..
---double post ---
my laptop does have 802.1bgn built into it. so at home, it automatically connects to my wireless router. this all works fine. I cannot afford to pay an additional $30 or whatever extra per month for a few minutes of internet access that I need from time to time from a wireless card/dongle or whatever.
if I take the LT to a hotspot (starbucks for example) once again it if fine.
if I go to a location that has neither then I would like to use the phone, either tethered or through bluetooth or wireless to get the laptop to connect to the internet throught the htc phone but I just cannot figure out how to do this.
I can connect the htc and the laptop through bluetooth or by the usb tethering but it will not connect to the internet and I cannot figure out what I need to do to get it to connect.
can you help me on this? thanks

Ok now we are getting somewhere, do you have a screen that pops up on your phone that asks you how to connect?
If not goto Settings>Connections>USB to PC , then check the bottom box "Ask me ..."
When you plug your phone into usb it should ask you if you want to use , ActiveSync, Diskdrive, or Internet Sharing, if you choose Internet sharing it should goto the data screen right after that and install the driver on the PC.
It then should connect .
So really your question should have been , "How do I share my phones data connection over USB?", or something like that .
..
It is a good idea to have the other connections on your laptop shut off, wifi , lan ...
that button has been checked but it only it says the first two active sync and disc drive but not internet connections. how do I get it to ask me that?

Well, to be honest, I only played with mine Stock for about 3 hours, so maybe someone with a stock one that has played with it more, will wade in here .....
pblocal, somewhere in your start menu, you will find an icon for "internet sharing", just run that, and make sure the two options are set to "USB" and "T-Mobile Data" (or whatever your data connection is named, it should be in the drop-down list), and then hit "connect" in the bottom left.. If you're connected via the ActiveSync option, it should then feed your 3G connection to your pc over the usb cable.
looked all over for that but could not find it.
could it be this phone does not have it? that would be LAME!
thanks for the help guys but I need more....
you can find the "Internet Sharing" app in the tools folder in the start menu.
it is in misc. settings on the phone last setting at the bottom

First of all i would like to thank all the experts in this extra-ordinary forum..
we all know that its nice to get the last emails with direct push tech. , last weather-forecast and also the latest RSS-feedback by just "plugging" the so called "wifi-less"gene to the PC by usb cable..leaving it downloading data thru the DSL connection in the PC and "NOT"by using GPRS of the device for financial purposes..
when i shifted to windows 7 it was pretty smooth and fancy..but unfortunately i had this ache..the phone can't download data from the internet connection in my PC like what i used to do in XP anymore ..tried everything and stayed clueless
i like to plug the gene in the cable for 5 minutes..take it off..go out driving my car and browsing my emails and rss freely..
mention worthy is....
1-PC>>>>>>in connection settings of WM device center i checked all boxex on,selected (com1) and (the internet).
2-Gene>>>>in connections i selected (the work network) and checked (this network connects to the internet) on.
3-all these data work excellent in xp?????
beleive it or not..if this problem wont have a solution..im gonna buy a brand new GALAXY S and will without consolation kill this hopeless Gene forever .. ( just kidding) hahahaha

I had the same problem once with Windows 7. DuFirst make sure you have the latest update for Device Center, then you delete the partnership on the computer and the phone, reconnect your device only after installing the latest version of Device Center. W7 is full of nonsense until you get it updated.
