I have been updating my camera software from various xda posts and they have all failed. So i uninstalled and went back to my normal software (htc camera 4.0).
Now, when i put the flashlight on, it does not come on (flashlight works with VJCandelaLite) and i able to capture videos but not pictures ("unable to capture photo").
Even when i try a program like cool camera or any of them. They do not work and they come up with a different error. "a problem has occurred with filesys.exe"
Any ideas what to do, other than a hard-reset. Is there a program that might have caused a conflict?
Is htccamera.dll corrupted from the many different versions installed?
Thanks

A strange problem has suddenly appeared.
When I start the camera, after a while performing the loading icon, the cycle in the center of the screen showing that the device is working, the following error appears :
Unable to start preview mode. Internal error 36001:101:1
Has anyone got any clue?
I use the camera rarely, and since the last time I used it, I have installed and uninstalled various applications.
Sound really strange to me, so any clues will be appreciated !
The problem may come from some pisture viewer software such as Resco or spb imageer.
That program is set to use as default viewer for picture image.
The resolution for this problem that i can think is install CAMERA again by extract file from Ext ROM and install again in your device.
or You may try hard reset first. If problem still occur .you may need to flash ROM again.
It may also be caused by a movie player or something that uses the ATI hardware chip. Does the error only occur after you have played a movie or something? Try closing all running applications prior to starting the camera and see if that helps (if you have a movie player running, close it using its own exit option so that it 'tidies up').
Failing that, does the camera start OK after a soft reset?

I have none of the applications you mention installed on my device.
I even deselected all applications from my today screen, soft reseted the device and still have the same problem.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions.
Certainly sounds strange :? What version of ROM have you got installed?
Perhaps re-installing the Camera app will fix it. This is in the Extended ROM.
I have 1.72 installed.
I agree with you.
I think I will have to reinstall the camera application
After i changed my old HD2 because of a demage, i had a problem with the new one. With every android image the automatically display rotation doesn't work. For testing i installed a original htc windows image with and without t-mobile branding, and on both images the rotation works. Because of that, the sensor can not be damaged.
When i look with adb to the logcat log, there comes a message
"Couldn't find or open 'compass' driver"
Did anyone have an idea, what i can do to fix this problem?
Regards
stespi
After i reinstalled Windows Mobile i looked at the browser and the rotation works. Then i looked the original compass app, and theres a big problem. The compass stays ever on 5812°(!?!) degree. Because of that i brought it to T-Mobile to change it. It is the second change. Hopefully the next HD2 will not have the same problem.
I like many on here was very disappointed with the quality of the camera, but thanks to the excellent guide posted on here it improved it 10 fold, but i decided to give a camera app a try anyway and looking through "htc likes" apps on My phone stumbled onto an app called "camera360".. I thought i'd give it a try as it gives you a free trial version (limited to just the basics).. and after a while (getting used to the many many options) decided to buy it, this is the first app ive bought for my dhd.. only costs $3.99 (around £2.69).. it had a handy paypal link so no messing about with my credit card etc.. if you pay with paypal it instantly becomes the pro version (it did for me anyway). They also send you an email with the file and instructions to make it the full (pro) version in case you have to do it manually or reinstall it (after a factory reset etc).It also says it gives you free updates when they're released. It has anti shake, effects, HDR, and loads more options i haven't got a clue what they all do yet! lol. The only "problems" ive had with it is although i can take 8mp pics it doesnt like me trying to take 8mp widescreen ones, and the zoom is slightly less than the htc standard camera, these may be able to be fixed by someone with more knowledge on the camera side of things. I havent got round to posting any samples but hopefully with starting this thread other people using the app will be able to post images on here (as i am a total newbie)..There are sites that gives a brief review of it (including sample pictures of the various effects available) I am unable to post the link to the review sites (as its only my third or so post). just type "camera360" in your search engine and read up on it .Like i said it works great on my phone, give it a try.. if ya dont like it just uninstall it (you have nothing to lose after all)
I have also installed the free version of cam360 and its got a ton more options than the standard camera, I will ave to try and take some comparisons - although someone with some more advanced knowledge of cameras would be better. The annoyances with 360 is the dodgey English throughout and a quite complicated interface, still use the stock one for now, just because its faster to start up, and with the guide on xda its not too bad.
I might upgrade if I can tell there is a solid advantage over stock app.

I've tried this a few days ago but I don't like the way this app returns non-accurate colors.
Cheers from my DHD.
Camera360 is really good.
Can you guys enlighten me how bad the camera is. I thought it is clear enough.

I just tried several versions including the latest 1.3 version of Camera 360 Pro and there is NO ghost setting/effect, how or where do you get it from as it is not in the list...
Hi..the ghosting effect needs to be downloaded (free)..its an add on, i think its on the apps store.. it puts images of ghosts on the pic (they look like the girl from "the ring" series).. you really have to look to see her though, its quite good how they put it in the pic..it randomly places the image on the photo.

thanks for that mrflatout!
I have Camera360 on my DX, and the app doesn't seem to focus in either of the focal modes I choose. Anyone else have this problem? Is there another way to focus?
In manual focus mode, I'll press the button halfway for focus, like in the regular stock camera, and a message appears informing me that the shot is now in focus and to take the picture. Only, it didn't focus. When I load the stock camera, and hold halfway, I notice how it takes about a second or two to focus, and the shot is much clearer than the Camera360 app.
It's really frustrating since I paid money for this, and I like all the features, but it doesn't focus!
I must be doing something wrong.

Okay, I fixed my issue. All I needed to do was uninstall and reinstall the app. Once I did that, the camera focuses like it should.
I tried it but it keeps force closing, i think i will remove and download again. Just to try it.
Camera on my 6t focuses initially, ( when screen touched ) but after "fire" button is pressed, goes out of focus an instant before capturing image. Image is indeed out of focus.
This happens on all of the camera apps I've tried, but does not happen when capturing images within Google Voice, which I use for messaging.
I've looked for info on this problem online, and although I've found a number of other problems mentioned, I've seen nothing on this, specifically.
Screen recording and video below illustrates the problem. Any insights into this issue greatly appreciated!

Finally someone with the sane problem as I! Did you figure out what's wrong. I've tried installing Gcam and OOS camera apks but they fail to open.
Looking forward to your reply.
Open Camera is the only app which reliably focuses for me.
A Solution, Perhaps?

Sorry for the delay. I wasn't monitoring this thread.
I loaded Open Camera, which seems to provide a solution. In the main camera screen, there is a camera icon with a "+". This allows you to select a specific Camera, though I'm not sure exactly what is being "selected". Cameras 2 and 3 seem to work, while Camera 1 has this focus issue.
In addition, in the camera settings, there is an option to select "Camera API". Camera 2 API allows manual focus, something I was looking for. Let me know if this helps...

Amazing, that made my day. OpenCamera lets me use either the bottom or the top camera but also the combination of both to produce a blur effect in a similar way to the stock ROM. I didn't think that was possible without stock.
Up until now I would just reboot my phone and the out of focus issue was gone for a little while. This is much better though.
It makes me wonder : I also sometimes have an issue with the flash where the timing is just ever so slightly wrong, i.e the photo is taken just a split second after the light flash, which effectively gives the same result as if the flash was turned off. Again, a reboot fixes it temporarily. Does any of you also have this issue ?
My default Samsung camera app shows a black screen before showing 'camera failed' error message. I tried solutions I found on the web such as clearing camera app cache and data, force restart, safe mode, boot onto bios and clear system cache... Nothing works.
I tried testing with *#0*#, 'Mega cam' its a black screen, tested with 'Front cam' it works. I tried with another downloaded camera app (pic quality is bad compared to the default Samsung camera app) and this time front and back camera works but not the default Samsung camera app. The camera also doesn't work in apps that require camera such as QR reader and document scanner. At least I know the camera hardware is working.
I suspect it might have been caused by a security update performed this week. Version G970U1UES6GUG1 updated.
I bought the phone new and have never done any messing about with bootloader etc.
Can anyone help?
