Camera problem - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

A strange problem has suddenly appeared.
When I start the camera, after a while performing the loading icon, the cycle in the center of the screen showing that the device is working, the following error appears :
Unable to start preview mode. Internal error 36001:101:1
Has anyone got any clue?
I use the camera rarely, and since the last time I used it, I have installed and uninstalled various applications.
Sound really strange to me, so any clues will be appreciated !

The problem may come from some pisture viewer software such as Resco or spb imageer.
That program is set to use as default viewer for picture image.
The resolution for this problem that i can think is install CAMERA again by extract file from Ext ROM and install again in your device.
or You may try hard reset first. If problem still occur .you may need to flash ROM again.

It may also be caused by a movie player or something that uses the ATI hardware chip. Does the error only occur after you have played a movie or something? Try closing all running applications prior to starting the camera and see if that helps (if you have a movie player running, close it using its own exit option so that it 'tidies up').
Failing that, does the camera start OK after a soft reset?

I have none of the applications you mention installed on my device.
I even deselected all applications from my today screen, soft reseted the device and still have the same problem.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

Certainly sounds strange :? What version of ROM have you got installed?
Perhaps re-installing the Camera app will fix it. This is in the Extended ROM.

I have 1.72 installed.
I agree with you.
I think I will have to reinstall the camera application

Is your Exec SLOW.....

Only had my Exec for 2 days and so far I have got to say I am not inpressed.
All applications open up so slowly I cant beleive that there is a 520mhz processor in this thing.
You open up an application say "media player" and when your finished you click OK in the corner, You think the program has closed but it hasn't It is still running in the background. Why don't apps close properly?
I have just installed a classic game 'PacMan' Now this is so small you would think the Exec would handle something like Pacman. NOPE. It is just too slow It takes 5 - 10 seconds just to eat one of the yellow dots.
My gripe with this is that it is just too Slow, Has anyone else experienced any problems with slowness.
I have 14 days in which to return it should I not be totally happy and I can honestly say I do not think I will need a week,
Did you try to go to:
Start> Settings> System > Memory > Running Programs
To kill the apps properly, press stop. Then, try to run the game again.
Yes that is how I know that programs are still running even when you think you have closed them. It annoys me that they do not close properly.
Start > Programs > Pocket Excel. Now there is no exit or close function you just have to click ok in top corner, Then you have to go to Start> Settings> System > Memory > Running Programs just to end the program.
You should not have to keep doing this and is only down to poor programming.
I have tried Pacman with nothing running at all and is still slow.
I click on Start and there is even a half seconf pause before the menu appears, navigation is just so sluggish.
If it is only me who thinks this then I possibly have a faulty exec.
Hm.. may I get the link to install pacman on my MDA Pro? If the pacman is still slow, I think it might have been due to the application itself..

Agreed, I think Tomtom 5.0 has the same issue as well..
I have installed some nice apps from here and they have some cool classic games.

I found the exec to be very slow, so unistall most of the o2 crap, the speed improve alot
What did you uninstall j11333?
Which O2 crap are you talking about?

This is by design - all pocket pc apps works this way. It's called smart minimize. When your device starts to run low on memory the apps you used longest ago will be fully closed automatically.
There's a number of different utilities out there that change the default behaviour of the "X" button to actually close rather than smart-minimize. Have a look here in the utilities section on FreewarePPC:

I did the installation, and I can tell you, even though I ran on MDA Pro with no other apps on the background, it is still lagging. Like *really* lagging (I can understand your pain now, *pats*).
FYI, my MDA Pro has been flashed with Jasjar's rom. So, might have been a universal issue (pun intended ).

Can you recommend a good one that is compatible with the Universal please?
I've installed Spb Pocket Plus v3.0.4 on mine and it works nicely

You should see a big differance if you turn off error reporting: Start - Settings - System - Error Reporting - Disable Error Reporting
I have tried to play a movie on my Exec via WindowsMediaPlayer and its slow and jerking...
Tried installing TCPMP as another player, but still seems to have the same performance issues.
I have disabled "error reporting" & "Incoming Beams" as mentioned in previous threads....
Not sure its helped at all.
I`m also confussed about the poor performance on such a high spec machine.....
It could be that the encoder you use on the PC to convert the files is actually converting them badly, so it may not be a playback issue at all.
I recommend you try NVIDIA PureVideo: http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html
Jdee246 Thanks for the advice,
I have disabled "error reporting" and have noticed a difference.
I have also downloaded small menu that hellps you close all apps with one tap of the screen. http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/smallmenu.shtml
I have also hard reset the exec 3 times and have tried the Advanced and basic setups but the speed is still not up to what it should be compaired to other pda's
Many thanks CJSnet...
Very good point...
But still feel that the Exec should perform so much better than this..
It has the fastest CPU and Memory than any other modile
I was trying to point out that it may be nothing to do with the Exec performance, if the encoded file is encoded with pauses and lost frames.
However generally we all agree the Universal's performance is terribly poor, and there is another thread where you can see that ROMs are coming out to fix this.

Thanks but I was hoping for one that doesn't install lots of other features I don't want and that take up resources.
Any other there that work, and ONLY provide a 'real task close' function to the existing looking button?

PHM crashes Album!?

Ok, interesting problem.
i have pocket hack master installed, every single thing runs fine.
It runs with scaling on, and 4 levels ranging from 390mhz [156:39:78:T] to 624mhz [208:52:104:T]
it works perfectly for everything, EXCEPT when i load up the HTC album software. it locks up.
if i exit PHM (no matter what speed) and then try to run album, its fine.
it seems completely independant of the clockspeed, just the fact that PHM is running.
i have tried setting a profile for Application speeds that will change it to default for the album.exe, but it makes no difference! still crashes.
i have done this correctly, and the overclock profile to 624 for my emulators works perfectly.
has anyone else experienced this problem!? its so annoying to have to close PHM to open up the album.
any suggestions?
i am running:
latest PHM,
Small Menu,
Xbar3
*edit*
just tried opening album first, then opening PHM. album works!!
if i now close album and re-open it, album seems to be working fine!
if i re-set the device (and PHM auto loads), album crashes the device again.
i have 24mb of program memory allocated.

Indeed. It seems you have tried anything that would get into my mind, and to me it looks like some kind of bug in either Album or PHM which you cannot overcome by some clever configuration or workaround. The only thing I would try is hard reset (backup beforehand) and then only install PHM and nothing else. See if the problem persists. If it does there is nothing more I can suggest. I would try to contact the PHM author and report the bug as closely as possible (does PHM have the ability to record crash logs? include one if it does). Maybe he can figure out what the bug is and fix it. If the bug is in Album there might be a way for him to workaround.

If there is no support on PHM you might be able to workout some clever autostart sequencing / macro that automatically loads and minimizes/closes album on system startup and then loads PHM "by hand" afterwards. Not a beauty solution, but if you really need Album and cannot replace it with some other media player/viewer the only solution. MortScript might come in handy when setting up this autostart sequence (including delays etc.)
My guess is the problem is with album. There are other bugs with it, eg it reads the height value of bitmaps as an unsigned value when in reality it should be signed(with nasty side effects). I have also noticed that album will not work properly sometimes when it is launched from a thread that is supposed to process window messages. It must send something to all windows and wait for a response. If the launching thread is waiting for album to do something then it may deadlock. In my apps when I launch album i do it from a new thread, perhaps the author of the phm software did not do this and used the ui thread instead.

HTC (jasjam) camera problems!

I have been updating my camera software from various xda posts and they have all failed. So i uninstalled and went back to my normal software (htc camera 4.0).
Now, when i put the flashlight on, it does not come on (flashlight works with VJCandelaLite) and i able to capture videos but not pictures ("unable to capture photo").
Even when i try a program like cool camera or any of them. They do not work and they come up with a different error. "a problem has occurred with filesys.exe"
Any ideas what to do, other than a hard-reset. Is there a program that might have caused a conflict?
Is htccamera.dll corrupted from the many different versions installed?
Thanks

cleanRAM problem/Annoyance

Hey there guys, just a quick one for ya.
Has anyone come across a problem with HTC Addicts cleanRAM?
when i click the the icon to clean it starts the process but then runs my email application(default HTC app) also.
It started doing this yesterday with no changes made to my registry or other device settings.
I've tried un-installing the program and then re-installing but i still get the same (annoying) result.
Has anyone else encountered this? and if so do you know of a fix?
Many Thanks
Sharingan
Well, for me, when I run the Level 3 purge, it takes me to the dial-pad screen for a few seconds. Never really bothered me though...
dial pad
level 3 takes me to dialpad also, wierd, but works ok,,
I also get this with Level 3.
...and for me as well.
This is just how it goes with cleanram. If you have done a customized process list than I would suppose thats why it's bringing up your email because it's purging anything in your list so if it's not running already it will bring it up to purge it to make sure it's not in the memory anymore.
Yea the thing is, i haven't ran a custom purge, i just do Level 3, and it doesn't just pop up, it keeps it open :s Thats why it was annoying for me, doesn't look like there is any kind of fix, just something we have to live with. Thanks for your input!
same here
I think I have the problem that after Cleanram, My Contacts and Programs wont open at all. Then calender says Error: Not enough program memory to start program...
This is a great tool but it keeps doing this to me...
I do a level one purge or 2, same thing happens..
any ideas?

Don't use Clean RAM, lol. It's not like you need to use it. I have 576Mbs enabled and I never use Clean RAM, most of the RAM used is just cache so your most commonly use programs will open faster if you don't use it.
I've never got any slow down from not using it.

Camera Not Working

Ok so we know, at least most of us know, that there are way too many bugs with this phone.
Here is an other one to add to the list:
The camera simply does not work when I need it to.
I press the physical "take photo" button on the side of the camera and then I see the image of the camera come up and it hangs there for about 45 seconds to 1 minute, sometimes longer, then it goes back to the default screen, not the camera menu.
I click on the camera icon on the touch screen and it shows the image of the camera then goes back to default screen, not the camera menu.
I go to windows, scroll down to camera click it it shows the camera image then back to default screen, not the camera menu.
Basically I must reboot once maybe two times in order to actually use the camera, again waiting the 2-3 minutes each time I re-boot until the phone fully starts up.
Any suggestions?
x
same with me but with little luck, mine have pop up windows said 'there's an application runing, close before use camera'. ususally I close beejiveIM if I use it(still not close opera and resco explorer runing background) and the camera works.
my conclusion Beejive is crash with camera. so I use palringo, the camera doesnt show error message like that when I use palringo. but lately the camera shows error again with palringo, opera and resco explorer!
what an annoying and selfish camera!
any sugestion or cab-fix or some reg edit clue?
Its Media Player. exe not closing!
I was wondering when the first people come up with this problem! I found that this is (at least in my case!) the mediaPlayer.exe that is EATING UP all available (little that is!!!) RAM.
When I have a song play, perhaps a few minutes, nothing bad happens, after closing media player for good, still 80MB RAM left.
But, when I listen for a while to music (using media player NOT slide view!) then after half an hour or 1 hour, I have only 3-5MB left. Yes, 3 to 5 MB!!! In this case, even after closing for good media player, NO RAM is returned! I have only 3-5MB available RAM. And of course that is not enough to run the Camera!
Unless we find a program that can kill the mediaplayer.exe for good and that will indeed return that memory, we have no other option but a restart!
Camera Video Choppy too!
And now since I made a first video... or better tried to make it with this crappy phone/camera, I found that the recorded video is choppy, it seems to hang when the camera is moved or objects move.
Really bad. Anybody found a reg tweak to perhaps fix this or make it at least better? This is NO WAY 30fps, not even 20!

Have you tried e.g. MemMaid from DinarSoft?
I have had trial version installed once, looked fine. But there seems to be u lot of similar tools. I just never needed any as badly as you do.
Well, actuall I think this is caused by Slide|View. Because I was fed up with this crap, I did a hard reset and stoped the custom install. I installed all I wanted/needed Manually!
And of course I did NOT install TileWave, SlideView and any other crap panel, exept the Growing Panel (just to brag a little ;-)
Now, media player does not take even 10MB and all is well. While playing music I can make pictues even.
So far all is well. The only thing bothering me now is, every other day a message pops up either wanting to send a SMS to register my phone, or a customer survey from microsucks.
If anybody knows HOW to stop it without actually doing it, please let us know.

That's strange because I think it's actually Media Player itself.
Since latest FW I use TileWave and Slide View, uninstalled the rest of the flashy panels (City, Growing, SPB) and never had any problem with running camera.
I listen to alot of music but always from SlideView, no RAM problems here....
BTW if you want to kill any process, SKTools does it.

Just wanted to share my experience on this: I remember choosing cancel and it would stop. Did you press any hardware buttons instead or the X button on the window?
Camera did not start.... again!
Well, I found the registry setting for these crappy sms sending msgs. Now its gone!
BUT, today I still had 110MB left and the camera did the 'cannot start' crap. Just did not start, whatever I did.
Had to restart the entire phone in order to get it startup again. So I guess it is not the memory shrotage that seemed to have caused it before.
