LCD and button circuit compatibility - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I'll describe everything from scratch so you'll know what the problem is. So, I had 2 MDA Vario II, both developed a fault (on one when I pressed the button on na hardware keyboard it showed two letters on the screen instead, on the other the backlight under a couple of letters stopped working) so I dissasembled them and out of two faulty, I had one working and one working so-so.
As I wanted the other one to be sorted (the connector to the hardware keyboard was burned in some places on the mainboard and the keyboard tape connector as well), I was shopping for some faulty ones on eBay and yesterday I bought an original TyTN with LCD screen not working. I dissasembled both of them and connected the full LCD fascia with the screen to the mainboard of the TyTN (so that now I've got the LCD housing from T-Mobile, but the rest from HTC) and everything is working perfectly... however I'd like to use TyTN only housing and possibly buy a new one on eBay (but keys on the bottom are different for Vario II and TyTN).
I do know that LCD screens are incompatible, in the TyTN I have the HITACHI and in Vario I got the TOPPOLI (however the whole thing works with the mainboard, as both of them have the same product codes)...
But does someone know if I put the whole LCD from the Vario including the tape and top buttons in the fascia of the TyTN and connect it to the bottom buttons circuit, it will actually work. I will do it anyway, but if someone was doing it in the past that would motivate me to fiddle with it tomorrow

Sorted.
For all those with NOT working LCD screens/keyboards/mainboards...
As I the LCD screens are not compatible and we often do not know what we are going to get off eBay, lots of people face the problem of buying something that may not work with their version.
I needed the mainboard and the keyboard in my Vario II (HERM300) and I bought HTC TyTN (the original one, HERM200) with not working LCD (backlight working but nothing could be seen on the screen). As you may be aware that TyTN has got an extra button for 3G and Vario II not, I was wondering whether the whole thing would work. I replaced the full LCD screen with the tape including the two top buttons and connected it to the bottom circuit of the original TyTN. After assembling everything back, I switched it on and it's working without any problems. So if you have the same problem and can get hold of a cheap Hermes for spares on eBay, as long as you replace the whole lcd with tape it'll work regardless of your version...

Useful info thanks. That question was asked before and I don't think anyone gave an answer. Good to know it will work despite the different button layout.
cheers
Mike

Advice after touch screen no more work

Hi,
The touch screen of my HTC elf doesn't work anymore.
I am going to order some parts to change the digitizer myself and also the casing to make it look a little newer.
Anyway, I'd like to understand how the touch functionality works exactly. Is it a pressure on the digitizer itself that make a "touch" or is it a pressure on the digitizer that press the screen and this action make a "touch" ?
When I power my disassemble Elf, a pressure on the screen itself doesn't do anything....
I'd like to know if I need to order a screen as well
Hi,
just replaced my own elf's digitizer a month ago... and the phone is like new.
To answer your question it's the digitizer that reads pressure and sends the data to the system (if you already disassembled it you should have noticed a flat cable that connects the digitizer to the board).
So if the screen on your elf is working you should solve the problem by replacing only the digitizer.
You rock, I order now

Put up a Hermes and various hard to find parts

I've listed my Hermes - HTC branded version - on eBay. Originally put it up on Marketplace. Also listed a few parts that seem to be harder to find including a rear camera, dpad board from a 8525 and a keyboard sub board and antenna/speaker. Don't know if I should link to ebay but here goes:
Camera

Phone:

Speaker/Antenna Module

dPad/Front Keyboard PCB

All the parts were from a donor phone and work perfectly. The phone is in great physical condition and everything works perfectly as described - the front dPad gets a little flaky - generally works - sometimes won't but can start up again by moving scroll wheel. Can't use the existing part I'm selling because it doesn't match up. Apparently there are TWO version os the dpad one has the controller chip at the edge of the PCB (ATT/Cingular - DOPOD 838) and original HERMES has it more toward the center. The keypads are different. I also have the sliding keyboard PCB without the keys and a flex cable (BLACK) and keyboard FLEX. OH - have another rubber plug for the antenna as well.
If interested just PM me and I can either sell it through Ebay or take it down and do it privately.

LCD & digitizer problem

This is my first post here and though i read similar posts on this subject i would
like to read your opinions on this one.
I accidentally dropped some water on my touch hd and my display got damaged. The phone worked fine and so did the digitizer but the problem was that the backlight of the display was dead.At some point the backlight turned on but when i tried to input the unlock code it turned off right away (did this several times).I knew that i should replace the lcd (and the digitizer just in case).
I bought the lcd and the digitizer seperately and i managed to assemble the phone back using the service manual.Since then when i turn the phone on I hear the starting sound,i get the vibration then after a while the screen with no backlight again displays the "tap here to configure your phone" screen (after the hard reset),when i tap i get no response.
I checked the connections many times and i also used a second digitizer with no success.
Is there a possibility flashing a new ROM will solve the problem?
If so is there a way of flashing a ROM when the phone's screen is not usable?
Waiting for your precious opinions/suggestions/knowledge
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Flashing the ROM won't solve an obviously hardware problem.
If you changed the LCD and still have no backlight, then either you bought a defective screen, or the problem is elsewhere, maybe on the main electronic board... Which would be bad news.
BTW, I wanted to change the digitizer in the apst years, but its not provided with the glue, so I had to buy a whole assembled screen + digitizer.
How did you manage to glue the digitizer on the screen ?
I aligned the screen with the digitizer and then i used small pieces of a special thin and trasparent tape to hold it in place. The tape holds the screen tight and it is barely visible, it also has the advantage that you can seperate the lcd and digitizer anytime you want with ease (though you have to be very delicate when applying it to get a good result)
I asked for a replacement of the defective lcd and i hope i will get a new one.

[Q] Incorrect Error Diagnosis at HTC Repair Centre

Hi,
I had the following problem with my HTC Diamond 2 (it might have got wet & it might possibly have had too much pressure on the screen)
Problem:
The mobile boots ok and the normal buttons at the bottom work fine, as do the volume up/down buttons. The display, however, has what looks like the newton rings and when I press the display it detects a 'press' about 1cm to the left of where i pressed. This means I can't use the right hand side of the display and also can't enter my pin.
Error Diagnosis: (from Arvato Services in Germany)
Mainboard is defect. Cost to repair = € 303.17
Is this possible ? If there was a problem with the mainboard then I would expect to see other problems - and at present, I can only see that the touchscreen has a problem.
Please let me know what you think, thanks in advance !
(ps there should be a question mark at the end of the 'title', don't seem to be able to edit though)
Based on your description and from what I've read, it's definitely the digitizer.
It is possible that you have a damaged board, but regardless, your digitizer is bad.
I would attempt to replace this yourrself then see if everything is fine before sending it to repair.
I had the same problem!
The screen was getting worse in alignment over a time frame of a couple of days. If replaced the digitizer and screen and all is back to normal ..... however it seems to work better then ever before.
The only problem left is dust between the digitizer and my screen, but this is my own fault since I didn't glued the screens. I'll re-open in the next few days and use some silicone to close the gaps. Mainly the volume key has an opening to the outside.
Good luck with the replacement!

HTC HD2 dropped, Black Screen, but touch and whole phone works well

Hi
I've dropped my HD2. Everything is working, including touch screen, I can unlock the phone, I can answer the call, but screen is black, not broken.
What should I do? Does the lcd screen replacement will be sufficient? In that case, could the screen be ok, but some other display "processor" could be dead? I'm asking because I'll try to this on my own.
Could simply be the lcd cable has slipped slightly but probably more likely an LCD replacement needed.
You need remove rear housing & have a look & make a decision from your findings/testing.
hello
I've got a little update - lcd screen is working well - I mean it displays the image, the only malfunction is backlit. Right now when i use flashlign I can actually see whats on screen. Do you have experience or think that backlit connection can be repaired? Do You have any schematics for hd2' lcd ?
I suspect new LCD required by sounds of it. LCD can not be stripped for repair so after basic inspection of external connection replacement is only solution & not expensive due to falling cost of HD2 parts.
