Normal browsing. Is it normal it's dialing #777? - Mogul, XV6800 General

Hi, I got a Titan and when opening the IE, it establishes a connection through dialling #777.
The "data Connection" is activated at this point.
I do not want to use my phone as an external modem, just want to browse.
My carrier is bell canada/mobility and I know they got 2 plans: Data plans (and not sure but I think it's for phone as modem) and browsing plan at 7$ unlimited.
I managed to activate the unlimited browsing option but the #777 is dialling and therefore, it's in data plan mode.
So is there a way to browse without dialling #777?
Thank you

That's how the phone connects to the network, it's not using it as an external modem AFAIK. My phone does that also.

is it possible to dial into any ISP than the OS mobile net

Can anyone tell me is it possible to dial into any ISP than the OS mobile network I would like to use Btinternet or freeserve do I have to unlock the Phone to do it Thanks Dave
gprs networking is tied to whoever your cellular provider is
you can dial into any isp you choose with gsm data, but its slower.
Not only is it much slower, you will be paying per minute just like a voice call - so even when your just reading a page that you clicked on, unless you disconnect, it's costing you money. With GPRS you only pay whilst you're actually downloading data.

Dialling ISP using XDA Exec phone and internal modem

Hi guys
Using the XDA Exec on its own I am trying to dial out to my ISP using "cellular line" as a modem from the drop down list. But each time I get a message stating that there is no modem at the other number dialled.
Very frustating
Where am I going wrong?
Almost about to tear my hair out!!!
Any help with a "how to" will be greatly appreciated
Cheers

Yes it is possible to use dial-up connection to your ISP. The Universal supports what is called "Circuit Switched Data" though this is very slow and the average data transfer rate you should expect is a mere 10kbs.
However to use this mode it is necessary that your mobile service provider supports dial up data connection. For example in my case Mobilink (Pakistan) charges a small fixed monthly fees to get this data connectivity activated. In some parts of my country where GPRS is not available I regularly use Dial Up connection without any problem. Also note that when you try to connect the moving arrows move about 7 times before the connection is established.
So ask your mobile service provider if data connection (Circuit switched data) is activated on your SIM
Hope this helps

my own ISP dialup

hello
i have a pc under xp running with an Dsl modem.
on an other part i have a pocket pc.
i want to plug a dialup modem (low rate) to my pc.
and i want to connect to this dialup modem with my ppc in order to get access to Internet. do you think is it possible please?
Actually i want to build my own ISP service, i read about a RAS connexion but i am not sure.
can someone help me ?
thanx
gsm phones cant use normal analog modems to connect to
i think at least thats what my old motorola phone manual said
so using that to access the isp oldschool non grps way
the isp had to support to data gsm
re
i use a pocketpc and i read it is possible with pocketlance but i am not sure about the result in regards of the my objective (to be an isp provider for only myself) using poitn to point connection. any ideas?
I was thinking the same thing today after my broadband (lack of) problem. I am palnning to attemp something myself like this. I can tell you that it is possible and that I have in the past established a dial up connection from my ppc to my pc. It was using an audiovox rtm8000 gsm card, the gprs tool that came with it let me specify the number for gprs and when I used my home phone number to dial my pc with incoming dial up activated I was able to establish a connection and use terminal services client. This is not a practical permanent solution because the software expected the connection to behave like gprs, ie if it was inactive for a time it would quickly dissconect. I can get a telsta business plan (using my abn) that has 35c untimed calls so basically for 35c I could use my home internet unlimited - all be it at a very slow connection speed.
Yes it is possible to call a remote modem located on a windows or linux machine with a RAS installed.
However, to be able to tranfert datas, you need a data subscription in addition of your voice subcription.

That depends on where you are. Here (aus) every gsm sim I have bought had csd enabled on the same number for no cost. I have had friends who were required to use a different data number but thats a thing of the past here. Thats why I am shocked to find that Telstra disable csd on the roaming service they provide to 3(three) customers - I need it!
I would have thought it would be cheaper / simpler to "tunnel" into a machine using vpn having first connected to a gprs provider, as csd (data over gsm) is allways a charged call, despite many contracts saying inclusive free calls to local numbers (in the UK anyway)

yes as long as you have activesync you will have the internet sharing setup automatically if you have problems ill help out no problem
Goto -> http://hotspot.t-mobile.com/
Setup your account it is included in your $19.99 package. Most likely you will need to call 611 and they will give you your password that you can change. The User Name is always your 10 digit phone number. After all is configured via that page all you need to do on any wifi enabled device is set you ssid to "tmobile". When you detect a Hotspot network just open up the web broswer on that device and sign in with your 10 digit username and password. That is it.
I think you are slightly confused (main poster). It sounds like you already have the unlimited plan which includes hotspot. So given that, it also says that you know how to share your gprs/edge connection by tethering it with your laptop. So the only point left for confusion is what a hotspot is. Hotspot has nothing to do with gprs/edge. It's a wifi signal at participating locations like kinkos, starbucks, ect... that you simply log in to with your wifi enabled laptop and the 1st screen it will direct you to is the tmobile hotspot webpage. Just enter your tmobile phone number and password that you use to login to the tmobile website that you already use (or should) to just pay your bill online. And then you're in the hotspot... download blissfully and much faster than edge.

Using my Phone as a (voice) Modem for itself

I have a verizon xv6900 (HTC vogue?) and I want to use my voice plan (*not* a data plan) to connect to the internet. There are free dial-up access numbers, and I don't care how slow it is. Is this possible?
I changed the #777 connection setting to a free dial-up account, and Verizon still charged me for "data access".
Thanks,
Bryan.
