Big Problem - Wrong Backup - Touch Cruise ROM Development

Hi!
At first - iam german speaking and so iam sorry about my english, if it is not perfect...
Now my problem: I just installed WinVista on my desktop pc an i want to install also activesync to keep my calender/contacts etc... By the way i have Bepe 0.67 Premium German.
So i started everything (a green program looks like for childes) now it is called windows mobile device center, an the first thing the program did is clean-up my touche cruise. no numbers & no calender. s**t.
So i get a little nervous and i search for a backup to get my files back. And i find it. On my MicroSD Card on the device. so i start "SpriteBackup" and the program runs, go, go, go and next next next - loading... and restart.
So... it loads... show me my rom number, the HTC Logo comes -- an then -- nothing. The logo stands on the screen, doing nothing. the only thing i can hear is a sound like when you press I/O for a few seconds, when the window with "would you really shut down" comes.
And so i start searching for a solution. and the ROM could be the solution. because i think i loaded the backup file from the first "original" system, not the bepe 0.67. an so i think the rom is not working with the older version. and because the active sync wont connect to the phone, i can not put a other rom on it, or play again the bepe rom in.
so... understand? and any ideas?

I think you can't do anything at this point... If it is possible flash the original ROM then restore your backup and then take a backup with PIM Backup (search forum) which is cross ROM compatible...
Then flash bepe's rom again and restore the backup you made with PIM backup!

the problem is that activesync cannot connect with the device - and so i can not update the rom or anything...

To update the rom just manually enter the bootloader by holding the camera button while doing a soft-reset. Then at the tri-colored screen connect the usb cable and run rom updater (assuming you have hard-spl installed ofcourse )

yeah! thank you!
now i only have to find the missing numbers...
Have a nice day!

Yes.
You need:
1. SD card (128MB is big enough)
2. Terminal program that can speak through the USB port
3. A CID-unlocked device
Boot to the loader (hold CAMERA while powering on) - the "three color screen". Plug in the phone and kill the wcescomm.exe process on XP (this is the ActiveSync USB driver process)
Start your terminal program and hit return. You should get a command prompt.
Type: "r2sd all"
The phone will dump the enitre ROM, including the extended ROM, to the SD card.
When done it will tell you. Remove hte card and store somewhere safe.
To restore, insert card, hold the CAMERA key and turn the power on. There will be a brief prompt telling you to press the VOICE key if you wish to restore from the SD card. Press the VOICE key.
The phone will restore.
This will work even if you brick it, so long as you can get to the tri-color screen.
Note that it appears NOT to back up the SPL - I just used this to return to the T-Mobile ROM from the new I-Mate one, and EVERYTHING restored EXCEPT for the SPL, which remains at the former level. Not quite sure why..... it should have dumped it all, but that's missing.
However, the restore appears to be fine and it both loaded and went thorugh customization without incident.
great it's very easy actually...but I didnt get it what u mean for terminal program....is there any detail
thanks so much in any case
An ASCII terminal program that can talk out the USB port.
Terraterm (there's a patch for it) is one option; there are several others as well. Basically you need to be able to open an ASCII terminal connection to the USB port on the device.
GREAT THANXXXXXX 8)
SPL`
What is the SPL?
There are two little pieces of code that start up the phone. "IPL" or Initial Program Load" and "SPL" or "System (or software) Program Load"
For reasons I don't quite understand the SPL does not get restored reliably off a SD restore. It doesn't hurt anything, but it does leave you with a changed version number on the splash screen.

Installation was unsuccessful

Guys help me please!!!
When i try to install some .cab file i've receive message ""Installation of [Program which is installing] for windows mobile.CAB was unsuccessful
I try to flash rom 2-3 times, but still makes the same problem
what CAB file you are installing? maybe the CAB file youre trying to install is not compatible for your device...
I tried to install Skype 3.0 And SKTools, but on the old ROM and original running perfect, now even on original rom makes this problem (I tried with original ROM, but again without success)
P.S. How I can restore all setings to default (Registry,plug-ing,files and everything) as when i bought it

Try to hard reset your device this will restore everything back to standard
Hold camera and comms button press reset with your stylus keep holding buttons untill message appears on screen then release both buttons and press green send key
A message should appear saying formatting and your device will reset you will go through the set up like a newly flashed rom ie,, calibrate screen ect..
Or you can look on wiki for more
Also i see that you are having trouble installing those cab files you must make sure that the version you are trying to install is both compatible with your device and compatible with your windows mobile version
I fix the problem
Windows Vista makes me this problem, i tried to install .cab files on XP and everything works perfect
Thanks to all
Sorry for my bad English
arrrgh
nice to hear this!!!
no wonder Microsoft scrapped that crappy OS but now they are making an even worse pile of crap
I don't know about Windows Mobile but I had almost the same problem on Android, maybe this explanation can help you and you can look for your own solution then on the Windows Mobile side.

New Touch HD User - advice needed please

Good evening,
I've just had my Touch HD delivered today, its not brand new, its a used item but is in perfect condition.
Anyway, the previous owner has obviously removed all of his details, pictures etc etc. However there are still a few apps on the device. Tom Tom for example, a screen rotate app and a few others.
Although they are useful, I'd quite like to have a fresh start with it.
The last owner installed a fresh windows 6.5.5 (?) before he sent me it, but I dont really know the difference, I'm a beginner when it comes to windows mobile.
So anyway, is it worth me doing a full reset on the phone? So its a cleans slate? And then updating the operating system (I need to learn about ROM and things etc), and downloading the apps that I'd like?
Things like the home screen, is the clock meant to be white and black? Because mine is like a see through bluey grey colour and I dont think the default theme is installed.
Anyway, any advice will be happily received
Thanks
Chris
anyone got any advice for a new wm user?
Any comments are appreciated
You could hard reset, but then you would no longer have whatever applications he left on there (like TomTom etc). However, it could be that he left TomTom on the SD card, and that you could simply reinstall it. That might also be the case with whatever other apps are on the phone.
The Touch HD original came with Windows Mobile 6.1. The previous owner flashed a newer custom ROM that has WM 6.5 on it. There are different versions (or "builds") of WM 6.5, but in general they look the same and they are better than 6.1.
To "update" the version of windows, would require you to flash (i.e. "install") another ROM on the phone. There are no "windows updates" via internet like on desktop computers.
Hard reseting basically brings the phone back to the fresh ROM installation state (of whatever was the last ROM someone flashed on there). So, you could do that and then you could begin to install whatever apps you want.
After you get the phone the way you like (with apps, contacts etc) you could use a program like Spb Backup to backup the entire phone. That way, if later on it gets a bit sluggish, you can hard reset and do a backup restore so that within a few minutes, you will have all your apps and contacts etc. right back on there. It saves you the time of reinstalling everything. Keep in mind that it is not always recommended (although possible) to restore a backup onto a ROM different from the one used when the backup was created.
If you are curious about what apps to install, I just posted a list of my favorites in another thread. Link here (second post)
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
Firstly, things like tomtom were on the memory card as you said, so they still work.
I've actually done a hard reset on the phone and its come back exactly the same.
So I'm guessing its had another ROM update in the past? I've been searching around for the original ROM and have managed to download one. I just dont know how to install it (done a few searches already).
I guess I'd just like to start fresh with it, and modify it in my way
Thanks again for the reply.
I would not recommend going to an original (stock) ROM. Custom ROMs are a lot better. There are some very talented people here who make changes to original ROMs in order to make them faster and to improve many of the features (as well as include new features).
I bought my HD in Nov 2008, and within a couple of weeks, I flashed a different ROM on it. It has been almost a year and a half, and I could not picture myself ever going back to a stock ROM.
You can see the ROM development section here in XDA dev. or you can visit htcpedia.com to look at other options. ROMs from Dutty, Energy, MaryOne, and Miri are among the most popular. They each create different ROMs and each has ROMs with different versions of Windows Mobile and HTC Sense (Manila 2.1 or Sense 2.5). Some have the regular HTC text messaging app, while others have removed it and include the Windows Mobile messaging app (since there have been problems with the HTC app becoming extremely slow when you have lots and lots of messages - i.e. for those "text message power users").
To flash a new ROM (takes about 10 minutes), you have two options:
1. Flash from your PC
2. Flash from the SD card in the phone
I have always done it from PC, but flashing from SD card is a safer method. If you flash from your PC, it is very important that, once the flashing starts, you never ever unplug the phone from the PC until it is totally finished and it restarts (or else you will kill your phone permanently). But, just do the SD card method and you'll be on the safe side.
The first thing I would do is to start your phone in bootloader mode (= hold volume down key the whole time and tap the power button; a red-blue-green-white screen will appear) to see what type of SPL you have (original SPL or HardSPL). You probably have HSPL, which would allow you to flash any ROM. If you have original SPL, you will need to either install HSPL to permanently have the ability to flash other ROMs or install USPL to have the ability to flash a ROM in that particular moment only.
Read more about SPL here (great tutorial).
My guess is that since the previous owner installed newer ROMs, then you probably have HSPL and you probably have a version 1.56 ROM installed. If this is the case, you would not need the upgrade steps discussed in that thread. Those are for people with 1.54 ROMs (the older, not so common ROMs). But it is still good to read as it describes installing new ROMs.
Here is a quote from Dutty about quick ROM flashing instructions:
*Flashing Guide
SAFEST WAY TO FLASH YOUR ROM IS THROUGH STORAGE CARD METHOD:
* Copy BLACIMG.NBH into the root dir of your Storage Card.
* Be sure to have at least 30% of charge.
* Turn off your device by using the Power Button.
* Go to Boot loader mode. Push and hold Vol. Down + press Power button.
* After that your device with have a white screen with text " Press to power button for continue upgrade or Press Volume down button for cancel upgrade , select press to power button and it will start upgrade Rom.
ALTERNATIVE WAY OF FLASHING YOUR ROM WITH RUU.exe
* Extract Rom download Folder.
* Be sure to have at least 50% of charge.
* Turn off your device by using the Power Button
* Go to Boot loader mode. Push and hold Vol. Down + press Power button.
* Connect your device to PC
* Run ROMUpdateUtility.exe and follow the screen instructions.

thanks for another very useful post
Ok I've checked out the device information etc.
If I show you them here would you be able to possibly point out if I'm running a good setup?
Ok on the bootloader screen it reads this..
Blac100 32M
SPL-1.56.0liNex
MicroP-Blackstone (LED) v6
When I start the phone up the first screen displays this in the bottom right...
1.17.25.09
52.69.25.37U
Also after that it shows a screen saying HTC and then Energy underneath.
Is Energy one of the ROM types?
And lastly in the device information it shows this.....
OS Version - 5.2.21901(21901.5.0.92)
Manilla Version - 2.5.20121255
ROM Version - 23.Apr.2010.WWE
ROM Date - 11/20/09
Radio Version -1.17.25.09
Protocol Version - 52.69.25.37U
Also when I press Start it shows a new page rather than a drop down programs menu....is this a part of an updated ROM?
I hope you dont mind me bombarding you with all this info.
I guess I just need an experts help
Thanks again
Chris
No problem. Glad to help.
SPL 1.56.0liNex shows that you do have HSPL and that it is upgraded to install 1.56 ROMs. That's good. It basically makes it easy to quickly flash whatever ROM you want to try out, without having to do any extra steps. So, the instructions on how to flash from memory card (above) should work for you.
Yes, you have an Energy ROM installed. You can continue to use it or you can flash another ROM if you want to try something else.
Your OS version shows you are running WM 6.5 build 21901 There are different builds out there. Some are more buggy than others, but I don't know how much they all differ from each other. The newer ones have the start button and OK button at the bottom of the screen instead of at the top, and the menus look a bit different. These versions are often referred to as WM 6.5.x instead of 6.5
Manila shows you have the latest HTC Sense version 2.5 (build 20121255)
ROM version shows WWE (world wide english) language and the date from about a week ago. I don't know if that is how new the ROM is or if that is the date the ROM was flashed. On my phone, it says "Dutty HD HG R2 WWE" (that's my ROM) but no date, so I don't know what your date means.
ROM date - 11/20/09 This is probably when the ROM was released.
Radio version: I have an older version 1.13.25.24. I believe this can be changed separately from the ROM, but if you are not experiencing any issues with bad connections etc, then don't worry about it. I have never done anything with my radio version, and I have no idea if the ROMs I have installed have ever changed that. I've never had a problem. Sorry, don't know much about the different radio versions.
Start menu opens up a new page..... This is part of WM 6.5 If you don't like it, there is an app out there that can bring back the old drop-down menu, but most people prefer the new version.
I hope that helps.
Yet again, thanks for the help.
I'm starting to understand how this little device works now.
I've decided I want to start from a fresh with the phone and attempt to restore it back to "factory" settings (if possible).
So I assume I'll be need to get hold of an original rom file?
And flash it with that?
I know newer roms are better etc, but I want to set the phone up to my specifications if you know what I mean.
This shouldnt cause any problems should it?
Also do you know where I might be able to download an original rom from?
Cheers
Chris
Sure, if you want to flash a stock ROM, you can try it and see how you like it.
You can find a lot of info about flashing on the XDA Wiki page for the Touch HD. Save it in your favorites because it could come in handy later.
In that page, you will find this link to available stock ROMs in the various languages.

[Q] Win 6.5 to Win 6.1

Hi Guys
Just after a bit of help with a touch HD I bought, its running win 6.5 professional running HTC Sense. I would like to take the system back to OEM HTC spec with win 6.1, before posting I have sent time trawling the site but cannot see the wood for the trees so to speak. Would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction
Cheers
Paul
hi and welcome to the forum (as an active user ).
i can understand that all the information here seems a lot at first and there are abbreviations and big words and beginners have trouble finding tutorials for the tutorials. so let's keep this simple:
enter bootloader mode. this is done by completely shutting off the device, then pressing volume down while tapping the power button. you should see a 4 colored screen with some basic information about your device.
post here, what the 2nd line says. for flashing the device it should be 1.56Olinex. then we'll continue the process from there.
p.s. to exit bootloader mode, just soft reset the device using the red pin on the back. that way, you can still use your phone.
Hi Tony
Thanks alot, you're a great help.
Here you go second line is "SPL-1.56.01iNex
Hope this helps.
My PDA has win 6.5 and HTC sense and it all makes it run rather slow so want to either delete or turn off sense or return the whole running system back to OEM standard Win 6.1.
Whilst I'm here it would also be great to be able to get microsoft reader to work. have loads of books and cannot activate the bl***dy think, tried FActivation and all the other tweaks I've found and nothing works . + cannot find another reader to support purchased .lit files.
With much appreciation
Paul
we should deal with the microsoft reader later, because flashing another rom comes with a mandatory hard reset, which will format your entire storage, thereby removing all installed apps, pim data and files.
your spl is 1.56 olinex, which means hspl is installed in your device. that way, your device is always ready to be flashed with any rom or radio, which is great, because the hardest step is already done.
to get back to a stock rom, all you need to do, is:
1. create a backup of your device:
1.a. backup your pim data (contacts, appointments...), using one of the following methods:
1.a.1. outlook sync (will not backup call logs, sms or mail from other accounts than outlook e-mail)
1.a.2. ms myphone (will backup everything, including your my documents folder and location, but no call logs)
1.a.3. pimbackup (will by default, backup everything, including mail, but to backup the my documents folder, you need to set it up to do so), put the program and the backup to the sd card, it is not affected by flashing or a hard reset.
1.b. backup my documents folder, if necessary and not yet done in step 1.a.
1.c. make sure, the cabs for all the apps you currently use are present
2. the rom(s) and necessary tools
2.a download advancedRuu from here
2.b. download a stock rom of your choice, either here on the wiki or on shipped-roms.com, from your carrier or from htc.com (if you have an s/n that qualifies)
2.c. depending on your pc's windows operating system, either install activesync 4.5 (xp) or windows mobile device center 6.1 (vista/windows 7) if not already done and set it up to connect to your device. in case you have windows vista or 7, please post again before attempting to flash, there is another step to do.
3. flash the rom
3.a. extract the rom you downloaded (even if it is an .exe file) until you see a bunch of files like EnterBootloader.exe, RomUpdateUtility.exe and RUU_signed.nbh.
3.b. take said ruu_signed.nbh (the rom) and put it in the same folder, where you put advanced ruu.
3.c. put your device into bootloader mode and connect it to the pc, make sure the bottom line changes from Serial to USB and wait for windows to recognize the device.
3.d. start advanced ruu and perform a task 29 (follow the steps)
3.e. put your device into bootloader mode again, start advanced ruu again, if it quit
3.f. select regular ruu (task 28). in select nbh file, it should show your RUU_signed.nbh, click next and follow the wizard
3.g. when finished, disconnect from the pc and perform a hard reset by pressing Volume Up and Down and power and follow the steps on the display.
4. to get your backups back, sync with outlook (or ms myphone respectively) or restore your pim backup
ok, this was the very detailed description of every single step there is to do while flashing, for the worst case scenario. but basically, it is very simple. here, the short version:
backup
bootloader mode
task 29
flash ruu_signed using advanced ruu
hard reset
restore backup
for future reference: there is also an easier way to flash, but it comes with a downside:
in the rom you downloaded, there is the file RUU_signed.nbh (the rom file), you can rename it to BLACIMG.nbh and put it in the root of the sd card and just enter bootloader to flash it. now you'll say, "but why bother with all the long steps above, if it can be so easy?" the reason is: the blackstone sometimes is a *****. it is always recommended to perform a task 29 before flashing, which will format and wipe your rom partition, so the old rom is removed before the new one is flashed. also i always perform several two or three hard resets to make sure it really wiped all old data. and by just flashing a BLACIMG using the sd card, you don't have the opportunity to perform a task 29. leftover data or data fragments might slow down your device, so you should make sure to get rid of them.
and remember: in case you use windows vista or 7 and have no access to a windows xp pc, please post before attempting to flash.
Tony, you're a star. Great explaination in easy understandable terms which I am sure will help loads of others besides myself. Thanks. I am running windows vista so if you can supply the missing step that would be wonderful, in the meantime I,ll go and look at the link.
Cheers
Paul
i left out the vista and 7 instructions, as they are a lot of work and don't apply to everyone. here is the link to the tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524619
for vista and 7 refer to post 3 of that thread. it can be really tough to make windows actually replace the driver, instead of keeping its own. also, on 64bit versions you need to enable test mode, so you can install unsigned drivers.
the good thing is: once you dealt with the driver issue, you never have to do it again, that modified driver is good for flashing and syncing and works for any windows mobile device.
Hi Tony
Right, I have a laptop with XP so will use that to follow your steps. I have been on your link and found
RUU_BlackStone_HTC_Europe_1.14.401.2_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14_Ship.exe
which appears to be 6.1 so will try that. I ,ll let you know how I get on tomorrow and then to be a real pain can we have a crack at Microsft reader as that has been driving me bonkers, activated it many times and still cannot read my purchased books, sort that and i,ll be a very happy bunny
Once again, thanks alot. You are appreicated !!
Well after much care and following Tonys instructions I have managed to return the PDA to Win6.1 . Thanks once again for all your help and replying to my post.
All I need now is to get Microsoft reader to actually activate so I can use my books.
Any ideas What ever I do including using Factivation does not work

Asus p535 info and english unofficial roms

I've been searching for two whole days to find some WWE cooked roms for the asus p535, and i could barely find anything, so i have been searching for roms on russian sites (i love my mom, she translated a lot of info for me) I am posting this because almost 99% of links from English forums/websites are dead, and someone might be in desperate search for rom updates, just like i was. I can't put up the credits though because, as i said, i don't speak russian and i didn't want to bother my mom with it more than necessary.
I will try to periodically update this post in case i find anything new.
TO FLASH ANY ROMS YOU MUST FIRST RUN THIS EXE IN ORDER TO UNLOCK YOUR LANGUAGE
http://asapload.com/info?id=131732
Instructions on flashing roms:
1. Get a mini sd card 2gb or less
2. Format it to Fat16 filesystem (recommended, not necessary)
3. Place ASUS.UnlockLangID.exe and GalaxyII.nb0 on the ROOT of your sd card
4. Run ASUS.UnlockLangID.exe
5. Press dpad up + record + camera + power buttons simultaneously and then push the soft reset button
6. You should see a white screen with text on it, insert your usb cable or usb charger and the update should start.
7. After the update it will automatically soft reset your device

Is any other way to do this without the reset buton? ... because mine is broken.
Thanks.
you can't gog to bootloader without combinaison button... if your button is broke, you can easily open your P535... mine is still here... sometimes i use this one to test my skins on small res...
I already opened my P535, i've just bought it. It had broken screen(the screen is fine but the touch does not work) and have change it myself by my P525 Asus screen(that works fine). Same screen P535 and P525, same batery....
I also want to try Android on P535.I loved P525 so much and now it looks very bad.
I think I need to take P535 to service, for repair that reset buton .
I wonder if there is Titanium to work on WM6 P535. Does anybody knows?
Sory for my bad english.
Thanks.
Windows mobile 6.5 works like a charm on P535... when i use my P535, i made some rom with a Friend... French & english version...
support 64 Mb & 128 Mb, clean and full stuff version...
LastesT ROM are here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508315
About your broken Reset... you can use USB flash method... now i remember method using actve Sync...
Read more info with link !
Thanks, but I read on your site (i think) and in the tutorial it say this
"Connect your P535 to PC via USB port. Press Rec+Power button (at the same time) and then Soft Reset (Press Rec+Power button util Boot Loader program startup you will see message Waiting)."
This mean that I also cannot instal, and i am afraid to brick the phone.
To P525 I managed to change many times, in miniSD mode.
By USBloader I managed to brick my Samsun Wave s8500, so if I need to press Reset... I am afraid to brick this one to. (Of course Wave works now thanks to a friend... after 8 weeks of trying...)
But there isn't Titanium for WM6? I only want to have Titanium for the menu, not necesarly WM6.5, if it's posible.
Anyway in few days I'l take the phone to service to see that the reset buton can be fixed.
Very good job with that roms.
Thank again.
1 - TITANIUM is WM6.5 basic UI
2 - USB loader is only used to turn your device on bootlader mode then flash using MiniSD
3 - Flash is easy as well... my P535 has been flashed more than 500x... and is still alive... Flash on P535 is very easy...
If you have some trouble... you can upgrade using official method to WM6.1... no more version after this one...
Have fun !
I mean I am afraid only because cannot press reset... If the reset buton can be fixed I will instal WM6.5 ...
I tried official (I think), update by WI-FI and update by PC-Sync ... there is an error, code 80072ee7 ...
I'l wait to fix the reset buton.
Thanks for the answers.
Can someone help me please?
5. Press dpad up + record + camera + power buttons simultaneously and then push the soft reset button
when i do this, i get the white screen with do i want to reset or just carry on green button for reset, so if i press this, it just simply resets my current os and hasnt loaded a new rom
i can get to the same screen by just pressing reset and dpad up.. is this the same?
how do i actually get it to load the new os off the sd card? as i seem to fail at that point
thanks
its ok done it now, but all roms seem pretty much same crappy
does anyone have a link to one of the ones that run something like the htc touch flo interface? i have seen this one but couldnt find a donwload for it
I have instaled the one like HTC(I think) ... name is "rom0.zip"=> galaxyII.NBO I think is the one with SPBshell
I like this phone now more than S8500( this only has superamoled screen), on this OS
Can the screen be replaced by one with 256k colors?? The phone is better with a better screen. Don't knnow how to explain .
Thanks to Award982 for making this topic.

English touch flo 6.5 styled rom:http://asapload.com/info?id=131735
Try this one, but it isn't something very good... asus p535 is pretty much a dead phone now, no one has one these days, and i bought mine by accident two weeks ago (my neighbors father had one for gps and didn't need it anymore), because i've been looking for one for three years already (i had one but it died and i sold it for parts). There are barely any people still using this phone. If i get an english kitchen by any chance, i will try to make a good stable rom with 6.5 wm and touchflo 2d.
