monaco aircraft aluminium case with screen cover? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Accessories

I am looking at purchasing this case i was wondering if anyone could give me the run down on it? I ended up buying a tilt becuase i am a tech fan and a hoobiest programmer, a gadget lover, im not a buisness man. I am a commercial electrition during the day and drive pizzas at night. I really love the tilts gps and i use it to listen to podcasts and internet radio in the car. I currently own a leather belt clip case i keep the tilt in most of the time, but im looking for a case solution when im out doing elctrical work. This includes anything from pulling huge cables to digging ditches.
I usually end up going through phones twice a year i beat them up at work pretty bad. I wont be using this monaco as a primary case just while im out in the field. I bascially just need to use my kaiser as a phone and maybe some texting when its in this case. I found the case here http://www.tiltdepot.com/att-tilt-metal-cases.htm the review said it limits the touch screen functionality. So what im wondering is will i be able to still use the creen i mean i just need to be able to use handwriting recognition and some acuall touch support in spb shell and finger based vistual KB's. How does this limit the touch screen?
aA;so how much bulk does this add becuase im also going to need to put the phone in a pouch or something to keep dirt out of the buttons.

I don't have any experience with this case to share I'm afraid. One of the common complaints with metal cases is signal attenuation. You might want to look at one of the Otterbox cases, but you'll still have to pull it out to use the keyboard.

hey buddy. I got a metal case from an australian company called pdair. I've had it since i bought the phone a couple of months ago. It's saved it many times and it doenst hurt the signal at all. BUT, it does have a polycarbonate cover so it does hurt the touchscreen function, but i just use the D-pad anyway. http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000164&products_id=6561

Is the outter box 8000 the one for the tilt? can you hear the phone ring in the outerbox.
Christian see im just wondering if the touchscreen works at all how much does it impair the phone? Im not really worried about the signal anyways im not going to be using the phone in this case all the time. I dont plan on surfing the net or anything while im trying to pull wires down 4 stories of building. Just need to be able to send or recive calls and texts. I think i could deal with flipping the case open and using the keyboard but im still curious how well the touch screen works.

in short I say buy this case. I have this same monaco case and I love it. I work in a warehouse mostly sometimes on a roof helping install solar panels and such, much the same as you im sure with the wire everything from #12 to 600mil. I don't do a lot of pulling but am around it all day and conduit and a forklift oh you get te picture.
this case provides the most protection I can imagine and still have the phone functionable. my case hase seen the concrete from about 10 ft and no problems. scratches of coarse but phone was un harmed.
in short great case great protection and a great buy for me I purchased mine about 2 months ago and I paid $14 or so pre ship on ebay.
get it you won't regret it.
(if you do ill buy it from you)
hope this helps.

mrphat, can you still use the touchscreen at all?? that is what i really want to know, how much it limits the touch screen.
I mean im going to need a tuff case no matter what, not so worried about dropping it, but sliding 4 750s over leg while they get tugged down a pipe is enough to crack the screen in a leather case.

The Pdair case protects/covers the whole phone(including touchscreen) but leaves the access features accessible (i.e. D-pad, answer/end buttons, stylus. etc). You can hear the phone very well and at work i just use the D-pad to answer the phone. Since i have an S2U2 all i do is get it out of standby and i can check quick vitals that way. . Whenever i get a text or something like that, i just open the case and use the phone that way.
After looking at the monaco case, it's EXACTLY the same as the pdair case. Both are aluminum and both have the polycarbonate screen protector.

thanks thats what i really needed to know

I originally bought an aluminum case for my Tilt because I wanted the extra protection. In my experience:
* All of the aluminum cases I've seen appear to be pretty much the same. eBay is littered with them for about a quarter of the price that Tilt Depot is charging. Search "Tilt aluminum case"
* You can use about 90% of the device's features with the Dpad and other keys, but you can't dial the phone without opening the cover.
* I did experience about a one-bar loss in signal with the phone in the case vs. the phone not in the case.
* The case that I had was slippery as heck. I wound up attaching a wrist strap to the phone and would never use the device without strapping in first.
* The aluminum case is a little bulky.
I switched to a rubberized case and don't miss the aluminum nearly as much as I thought I would.
You probably need the extra protection for your day job, and the aluminum case will certainly provide it. Trust me, though, trying to flip open the cover and dial the phone one-handed while you're driving is a huge pain in the rear, not to mention dangerous.

well what about these outerbox cases can you hear the phone ring will they fit in your pocket?
I mean im going to have to keep the aluminum case in a pouch anyways beacuse i work in palm springs wich is all desert and any underground work is in sand, so i have an issue with dirt getting in the buttons too. If im going to be taking the phone out of a case to dial might as well take it out of one instead of two.

questions been pretty much answered I guess and yes the case needs to be opened to use the touch screen , but trust me it is easy to get acustomed to. as the poster said a few posts up it does work well with s2u2 and the dpad.
forgive me if im wrong but is there a otterbox case made for this device specifically?. I know the ones I've seen are pretty generic and very bulky.
I have mine in the case and I purchased a leather pouch for a BB Curve from the Dollar Tree for a buck its real cheap fake leather so I bought like 4 of them. I just slide it in there. the belt clip is sturdy but doesent allow you to set it down and use it. maybe this helps ?
I also agree that pretty much all of the cases (aluminum) are the same I just happen to own the monaco.

DAMN!!!, UNIVERSAL BROKEN!!!

I am so upset, i just got my universal on saturday, i have been enjoying it but i could not use it as a phone because i needed to unlock it. I had the damn thing in my pocket and was on a phone call on my other phone in the car, in my front pocket, not back. Got out of the car, walked into the hall and opened it and there it was, A BIG UGLY black gash on the screen, the screen cracked, it just in my pocket!!, closed too! Where can i get this fixed, i am in the states and the phone is not sold here so i don't know here to get it fixed. Please, the LCD liquid has made a dark smere across the left side, i need help, please. Also what is the best case to get, so this does not happen again?
Check Pocket PC Techs. They will replace the screen for you.
how?
Please how do i get to them?
ok
ok, thanks, thats really expensive, ok, what is best case to use for this device?
Broken screen resolution
Ok thank God i don't have to pay over $250 to get my screen fixed. T-mobile Uk agreed to replace it since it was gotten through them. The way this still happened baffels me. I have had my MDA3 for over 6 months and it has fallen about 4 times, and stuff and it still works fine, but the exec screen broke while in my pocket. Strange. My question is that, for people who have an exec, do you leave it in laptop mode or tablet mode most of the time, and have u had to replace yours or do a repair?
Broke my Wizard to, im so damn worried about my universal. Don't got the money over to fix that screen if it's gettin broke, have had almost all pda phones you can get in .se and never cracked any screen but damn qtek ive done it on
I use a krusell case but not because it is the best but because it was the only one available on hand. It cost 29€ here in spain.
Also, I never leave it in tablet mode in my pocket. Always in Laptop mode.
It's only in tablet mode while it's on my desk.
Purchase a metal case. You can keep it in PDA mode and view the screen while inside the case. It also has a belt clip
UD.
Thanks
I pray the second one does not break when it arrives, it is too expensive to fix these things. Can you post a link to the case? i have looked at most of the cases on here, i think i will go with the one for the T-mobile side kick 2, it is cheaper and looks ok. I just need something with a strong belt hook and is well paded, so if it is on my hip and something actually presses on it this time, it will not break.
I must admit , I feel my Unirversal is more vunerable than any other device I have ever owned - can't quit put my finger on why , but I feel as if it wouldn't survive being dropped as well as myXDA, XDAII , s100 , or wizard for that matter !
The XDA / XDAII came with a nice case vertical flip case with a metal plate in the flap - which would be ideal in my eyes , but I have only seen one like that on Ebay for the exec (Via hong kong! ) and I suspect the one you actaully receive may be different (horizontal )
here is the krusell case link:
http://www.krusell.se/product.php?productID=2095&category=7
and here is a metal case link:
http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05.php?t_id=1355&t_mode=des
hope this helps
I had an XDA 3 and used a metal case. BIG ERROR!
one day the belt clip connector of the case broke and the device fell down, cracking the screen.
For my Mda Pro I ordered one Piel Frama case, which has not only a belt clip but also a fixed belt latch (you can take of original clip and then below) which should not break.
Also this case protects the device from all sides and seems to be thick enough to give it good protection in case of falls.

Replies, thank you all for your reply, i think i will go with a leather case, the metal ones are not attractive. The funny thing is that i just sent the phone back today, now it is gone, and as i got home, i got the unlock code from t-mobile UK!!!. DAMN!! I think i just have a bad luck week.
You can get cheap leather case with all sort of design off Ebay. I got mine from there and the quality is not bad at all
Piel Frama does NOT have a belt clip.

@BlackICE,
My bad! Thank for you for the correction. I thought you were referring to the standard case.

Just as an observation, the reason the screen would crack in your pocket would be something sharp hitting it? Could this not be easily solved by always making sure that the side of the HTC with the screen on it always faces towards your leg and not towards the outside? Sounds like an easier option than buying a metal case anyway :?
i usually keep my xda exec in my front pocket ... i'm not really a fan of cases esp. for the htc universals .... somewhat tacky ...
HTC
I had 15 cents in my pocket when it happened but i doubt that had anything to do with, it may have but with the way the coins were, i don't think so. I think maybe cause my knees bent, it stretched my trousers and that caused it (can't stop thinking about that day, ::sob::sob:.
With my MDA3, i always used the case that came with it, i like that, cause the case only holds the device. Thanks for your advice, i just ordered that ALU-Leather yesterday, but i am thinking it will be uncomfortable answering the phone with that leather all around it. I will see how it works out when it gets here but protection is number one now, i can't keep shipping it back to the UK. To people with cases that house the unit, do you answer the phone with the leather all around the unit or u use bluetooth, or you take it out of the case?

HTC Kaiser Skins - InvisibleSHIELD, Body Guardz, etc...

I am thinking of getting a case to protect my Kaiser...
What do you guys think of this HTC Kaiser Body Guardz:
http://www.thepocketsolution.com/PSI-42272.html
I know it is transparent, but it is not clear if it will protect it from falls, etc...I doubt it...
/MN
weird ...
every other variations of the Kaiser ( TYTN II/8925/TILT/Vario III )is out of stock except for the "TILT" is available for ordering ...
http://www.thepocketsolution.com/PSI-42589.html
must be vendor error or NOT YET AVAILABLE ( should all be same ... except for the single camera model ) ... I would email & ask ... I think this is just website putting it up way before the device came out ... ( roughly within the last 2 weeks, if you covering all the variations coming to be reality. )
curious ... on one of the demo video ... they had the iPhone protected right over that touchscreen ... I got to thinking ...
if their measurement are top notch ... hopefully the one for the Kaiser does the covering for the screen too !!
we can skip the screen protector altogether ( its thickness replacing the screen protector's thickness ) ... LOL
those thing dries to an invisible result !! COOL stuffs ... I'll be ordering one for sure .. plus I'll get a cool case as well. ( because the guardz is mainly for nick & scratches ... not dropping.
The bodyguardz is because my Kaiser deserved the spoiling ... hahahah
this is weird indeed... I just checked a moment - it doesn't update the stock status until you get into the cart...I will shoot them an email?
what non-magnetic flip case would you recommend?
rgds, MN
I like that the back of the Kaiser is "slightly rubberized" it keeps it from slipping around like the old Hermes did. Does this cover feel the same way? I probably wouldn't go for it either way, but, if it is slippery, it takes away a nice feature IMO.
liking the look of the bodyguard thingey! is it tough/ - ie drop proof?
I put something like this on my wife's iPhone and it works great. Well worth the investment and it really cuts down on the fingerprint smudges (the iPhone is flat out impossible to keep smudge free). I used this skin and bought one of the thin ruberized cases, and my 14 month old daughter has knocked it off tables on several occassions with not a scatch or even a blip of the screen. I have to admit for all it's lack of features, that thing is TOUGH and makes a great device for my wife. I also like the peace of mind that the thing can get thrown around her purse to her hearts content right beside that massive key ring and all I have to do is peel that thing off and it will look like new.
I wonder how well it would suit the Kaiser though since it has more moving parts. On the two occasions my daughter has knocked my 8125 off the coffee table, I have cringed. No damage, but on one occasion the battery door got knocked off, thus forcing a soft reset. Even with one of these covers, I am thinking the sliding keyboard and pop off battery cover will make it more prone to injury, even when it is in a decent case.
Bottom line, I'll be making sure my Kaiser is out of reach!!
i've been watching that site for 3 weeks now waiting for them to get the skins in stock. well, my order went through without a problem
give us a feedback when u get it dude
traveling on business all week, but will follow up when i return next weekend.

As i've mentioned earlier about the iPhone howto video ...
Could you tell me how good the touch sensitive screen reponses when it have the "bodyguardz" covered ??
note: ... only certain kit(s) goes this way of "covering the whole screen" ... if it works well ... I hope the TyTN II kit do the same ...
thickness is similar to a screen protection I guess ... there's one video for the MACBOOK and it does the "covering of the mouse's touchpad" as well ... so I guess it works really well then.
YOUTUBE howto vids ... all sorts

ok guys (and any girls) i just applied the BodyGuardz to my Kaiser and took a few pics before hitting the road... I've included 10 pics in the attached zip file. they're not the best pics, but hopefully they give you some perspective on fit, look, etc. keep in mind that it takes 24 hours for the bubbles to disappear. the pics were taken about 3 hours after application so you'll see some bubbles here and there. by the way, you get 2 sets of skins and 3 screen protectors with the kit. each set includes a skin for the left and right sides, one for the top, one for the back and one for the front. the left side skin also covers the bottom of the phone. so far I'm pleased. i like the somewhat tacky-feel and now i know my phone will be protected from scratches when in my pocket. overall this is a pretty good value.
InvisibleSHIELD
Would anyone else be likely to purchase a screen and phone body protective case from ShieldZone if they have one available?
I have used these on many of my gadgets and they are the best around (IMHO)
I just emailed them to see if one is in the works and will post back with their reply when I recieve it.

I too think they make the best protection for our devices. I've used them on my previous Wizard and Hermes and loved them. The problem I see with putting them on the Kaiser/Tilt is that there's really not much real estate to cover. There's the screen (of course), but that's about it. I personally wouldn't want to cover the back because I like the grip I can get from it. The sides are "ridged", and can't be covered. And the rest of the face is just too small to cover.
But they're really good about making custom shields if you bring in your device to them and it's only like $10 more than their usual charge. But once they make a template, no more custom build fees.
I bought the invisibleshield for my 8125 many years ago. It was a big waste of money. I hated it.
i too had reservations about using a "skin" to protect my Kaiser. i just recently applied the BodyGuardz to my device and as of know, i think i'll continue to use them. this is a link to some pictures (some good, some not so good) in case anyone's interested to see how it turn out.
i had this for my wizard. I love how friendly customer service was. If for some reason, you screw up your cover, which is pretty hard to do, then you can ask them to ship you another one paying for shipping as long as you register.
Only complaint is that it's a little too thick. Didn't feel good with the stylus. But at least I was confident that my screen wasn't going to get damaged.
bloody hell i can hardly see it!
it looks so thin!
are you sure it will protect it?

yes, it's thin and it covers a significant portion of the device. durability is good at the moment...time will tell how well it protects the device.

I am pretty sure it will unless it covers 100% of the back. I kept my protection film on the battery cover for 2 days of use, when i took it off, there was a very noticeable trace from where it was.

Kaiser protection that will not increase the size of the phone by much

i like to have the kaiser in my jeans etc but with the supplied case (t-mobile) it is just too bulky. i need a solution that will protect the phone from falls etc but will allow me to keep it in my pocket without creating a huge bulge.
Im searching for the same thing, anyone an idea?
i think a skin would be the best bet but none are available yet, or some kind of sock case
I know one, you see that strap hook by the sync cable/charge insert on the kaiser?
Get a lanyard with quick release, attach it to your belt.
Get a screen protector.
There, all issues solved
The kaiser is already bulky in the pocket, dont think you will be able to find a case that wont be to encumbersome. Afterall the kaiser is best used on the belt clip.

The Kaiser does that to me everytime i look at it LOL
To answer your question though: There are currently very few companies who actually released cases for the Kaiser...i would suggest waiting until christmas, or january and then deciding instead of picking from the very few available ones now.
i'm using a BodyGuardz skin...check out the pictures in the attached zip file...
skins soon to be available from gpsforless.co.uk
i e-mailed them and they told me they are in the process of producing them, and will be available soon. couldn't give me a date though
This was posted "For the time being, I'm getting by ok on the stock Kaiser case along with a small neoprene case from OP/ Tech USA. The Velcro on the stock case will lose its grip over time and repeated use and that fact alone has me case hunting too.
The OP/ tech case is useful for when I just want to carry the phone someplace other than clipped to my belt (say a cargo pocket). There is a clip on it too if need be. The real plus for me is its utility & bang for the buck: the case provides shock & screen protection and even a bit of water resistance with minimal bulk. It stashes well and the price is right. There are color options too. I’ve used these cases for cameras, GPS and cell phones for some time now and like them a lot.

Not a bad looking case at all. Think I found a winner

Seidio Innocase (Black) $24.85 SHIPPED

emobileinhand.com has teamed up with Amazon and they're selling the Seidio Innocase for $24.85 shipped. I added Priority shipping and the total was $26.85. I bought my first Innocase from them but I got wasted on St. Patricks Day and broke it. The phone is fine, thank God.
The Seidio Innocase is hands down, THE BEST case for the Kaiser. The holster (strongly recommended) really keeps the device safe.
Right now, I'm using my Boxwave as a backup. I like it, but the belt clip forces you to wear it with the screen facing out which could lead to damage.
This is a great deal.
http://emobile-in-hand.amazonwebstore.com/search.htm?keyword=B0012Y4IQA
I have this case and imo its overpriced crap. The thing rarely stays on all the way. It seems there's always a corner or something to press down on again to get it to stay on it.
If you want a nice case cheap, just buy a cheapy. I bought one off Amazon for less than $5 and it stays on all the time never have to worry about it at all. The only difference is the holster and finish. The Seido has a nicer feel to it due some coating they put on it. And the holster for the cheapy is one of those screw on job's.
But hey if you want to spend $20 on a coating for something that will fall off, go ahead its on sale!!
Satisfied
I've used it for 2 weeks now and it stays on, feels great on hand, and haven't found any peeling of the rubberized layer.
I used to put on PDAir Aluminium for my SE M600 and it also go roughed up. So you can imagine my usage habit and this Seidio performs beyond my expectation.
Yea, I dunno man, I never have had a problem with my Seidio. You just have to make sure you have it on correctly. The boxwave is a very close second though. I wish Boxwave had a holster similar to Seidio's.
The great thing about the Boxwave is that it has a "notch" for the reset hole so it's almost impossible to miss and end up messing up your USB port.

I don't know how someone could fit it on incorrectly. It only goes on one way and its pretty obvious which way that is.
My biggest problem w/the case is that if i slide that keyboard out it will knock off the bottom hinges.
IMO its not a secure case. Is it designed well as far as all the little notches and slots? Yes. Does it feel nice in your hand? Yes. Does it look nice? Yes. Is it worth more than $5? No.
Is this really much different to the 'crystal cases' that you can buy from the markets and crack after a week in your pocket?
Dont u dare!
Dont even think about buying this pathetic case. after much debate i bought this hoping it would protect my kaiser. i spent a week looking for the perfect case, went through everything i could find. i received the case, it snapped on easily, i hardly had an issue with the little hinges, the case lasted me a good 18 months. the rubberised outside is a nice touch, imo the phone doesnt look good with the case, but i stuck with it coz it protects your phone, right? well not quite. what the assholes at seidio dont tell you is that yeah they've rubberised the outside but done nothing inside the case. its plastic, which means after a couple of months you start to accumulate **** inbetween the case and the outside of the fone. ordinarily it might not be a problem, but if like me the fone spends most of its time in the back pocket, in bags etc then any grainy kind of crap between a plastic cover and a kaiser = ? you guessed it, major dents, scratches, gouges etc. i didnt check the phone for a good 3 months after i put the cover on, when i took it back off my phone looked like id rolled it down a hill and then threw it back up again. its ruined my kaiser and now i cant sell it on unless i buy another housing and put it on myself. it may be error on my part assuming that a protective case protects the outside of your fone, i dont know. this is my experience of this ****ty case, take it or leave. i think you'd be better off buying the cheapy crystal ones, coz then atleast you can see when your phone needs cleaning and you dont end up ruining it.
sorry for going on and on.

Thanks for your feedback paradoox,
anyone else have similar long term reports?
On a separate note, i found out that Boxwave do a very similar (nearly identical) case and holster. Anyone handled both the Seidio and Boxwave for a comparison?
yep thats pretty much what i thought

I had a similar experience as paradoox, bought it, thought it looked crap but left it on to protect fone, few weeks later discovered one of the little little tabs holding the top half of the case on snapped so it wouldn't stay on.. this is when i found scratches and dents under the case too. imo ... the case is just too expensive for how it performs... better to go thu 3 cheapies i think..
It all depends on your usage and carry habit.
I carry my phone on a leather pouch on my belt, with the Seidio snuggly fit on it, so it won't slip whatsoever.
It does make sense that some grits, etc. will get under the case, but I just opened it up 1-2 weeks ago and found nothing. Remember, I live in Jakarta, taking public buses and lots of fumes, dust, etc. around the air.
Of course it has to be also counted that I rarely open my phone in public (dusty, windy area) mainly for security reasons. I don't flaunt my belongings. I worked in an office building, and the phone is often out, but it's a clean environment.
Again, YMMV. For someone who wants no dust, I read somewhere there's a waterproof case for Kaiser ..
For my use, Seidio works great.

Nifty leather case I found, made for the Kaiser

I am a pretty big perfectionist when it comes to cases. I want something that doesn't add steps to the process of using the phone, and something that is durable as well.
I've been through the hard cover cases and found that they look terrible after a few dings. I also found that on most hard cover cases there is a certain point of weakness where the frame is smaller to compensate for port access, which led my case to crack.
Anyways, I just ordered the O24550LCST1BK from CarryMobile.
Google search O24550LCST1BK and click the first link to see it.
When will I have my url restrictions lifted? I've been a registered user for a bit now...
From the pictures it's just what I was looking for. It isn't blocky or otherwise ugly. I really like the rugged appearance and the metal hook on the back for misc usage!
The only downside is that it doesn't have a way to use the keyboard (thats another model that they offer though). I use mostly touch friendly apps anyways so I won't notice it.
When it arrives I will let you know what I think!
Is this the one you meant?

Doesn't seem very svelte. And having to take it off to use the keyboard is a big negative for me.
The O24550LCBSPBK-4550 may be more along the lines of something you would be interested in. I'm debating changing my order for that one and just removing the front cover flap.
Thx but all these cases are a waste of time and money. Just don't throw your phone on the floor and it stays fine. It's all common sense really. If you drop it, well that's your fault isn't it. Take care of your phone and it will last for years.

I can agree with your point of not dropping it being the number 1 way to make a phone last, but in my situation I need a case for both the protection and belt clip usage. I am normally pretty good about taking care of my phone, but I've had a few run ins with people bumping into me.
I know I am perfectly capable of taking care of my phone, but it's the other 'crazy drivers' im worried about. I'd think differently if I hadnt already had to replaced most of the internal components of my phone XD
I use Seidio hard case with local branded leather pouch (vertical, with flap magnetic cover). Pretty handy. Tried not dropping the phone, it's now 3 times already. All due to my own absent mindedness.
However, the Seidio holds up well, it hasn't cracked or anything. Phone working fine still ..
I had PDAir Aluminium on my SE M600 previously, but given Kaiser's bulk & weight, I decided going lighter. Besides I read somewhere the aluminium reduces signal quality (on M600 doesn't matter, not doing any Wifi - it doesn't have one but it matters for Kaiser, both GPS and Wifi)
Its similar to the case I had by SENA for my HTC 8525/HERMES. The only difference it had a flap the covered the entire screen/keyboard and did fully protect the phone. The only problem was you had to remove the phone for the keyboard. Generally didn't use the keyboard so it was perfect. Unfortunately SENA doesn't make one for the KAISER otherwise I'd buy it. Did protect the phone fully.

did you look at the O24550LCBSPBK-4550 model? Sounds like what you describe, except you can open it up and the keyboard keys are protected by a plastic layer. I finally broke down and got this case, so I am just waiting on it to arrive from hong kong now
