Hi
Anyone have a list of decent games that work happily on the VISTA side?
Havent played games in years and tempted to get Civilisation IV - would this work OK on Shift?
Cheers
Hi.
Don't know if Civilisation IV worked.
I know that Command & Conquer works up to "Red Alert 2". I often play RA2 and it works like a charm.
Tobi
I play Ground Control and Warcraft, Starcraft also works.
I guess there are a lot of titles which will work...
Just make sure to update the VGA driver to gain some extra performance.
how do i install command & conquer first decade on shift
i installed it already using an external dvd drive
but some games don't work
how do i get them to work?
and what no-cd file do i use?
i installed it on my sdhc card
Rise of Nations works, Fifa 2000, Pro Evolution Soccer 7...

If you have enough space, you can create an ISO file from your game disk and mount it with a virtual cd drive. DaemonTools can do that for you.
Alternatively, you can use NO-CD cracks, provided by GameCopyWorld.com. (I assume you have legit copies of the games)

yeah i have them installed with no-cd files
but these only work : command & conquer
command & conquer tiberium sun
command & conquer red alert 2
how do i get the others to work?

You may need to edit the ini files for some of the games, so they will work under the Shifts screen resolutions, I had to do that to get some C&C games to work on my Asus Eee.

google the game name and "widescreen". There is a website dedicated for this guides.
Also, looking at the game forum from the eee helps a lot, as most of the games will also run on shift.
maybe we can make a full list in a thread of all games that work on the shift
and give info on how to make them work
who is willing to do that?
We can start here:
Neverwinternight: ok at 800x480
Pirates( newest version): ok, a bit slow
wesnoth: perfect
freelancer:buggy screen, but playable
myth II : ok
freespace: ok
dominion 3k
ground control: ok
galactic civilisation: ok but at 1024
medieval total war: battle ok, campain not ok
virtual villager 1 2 3k
warzone 2001: ok
unreal 2004 :slowish but ok
freeciv sdl versionk
Baldur Gates II SoAk
don't forget vista games: they are not installed by default but they are here
i can confirm that homeworld 1 and cataclysm runs very well on it.
homeworld 2 runs a bit slow sometimes but it's ok. (you can start the game in 800x480)

how do i get the standard vista games?
Anyone know of a good external DVD drive that works with the Shift (slimline)?
I'm using HP dvd1040, works perfect , maybe is little too much bulky and needs external power, but is better than this one build-in in my Sony laptop, and has double layer, light scribe...You just plug in, and that it .But for games I much more recommend to use Virtual CDv9 software...Of course big games don't will be working on Shift, and older don't take that much space. So the best way is just keep images of games on storage card (I have 16gb) and than if you want to play, you insert virtual cd in.

system hangs up with error pointing on intel graphics driver dll and reboots - also tried newest drivers from intel with no luck.
But the graphics card should have enough power to support WC3 :-(

All of this technical stuff may be fun in a way! But Id much rather get some cool games on my phone! Sim City 200 is very awsome but I dont like using the stylus on buses etc! Any other good preferably FREE .cab games?
There are other threads on games, we're all just geeks here, no time for that l4m3r kinda stuff.
I almost never use my phone for games, but more due to lack of time. I think if it weren't for the stupid dpad issue (can't press dpad and some other keys), it'd be a kick ass device. Particularly the wizard, with dpad on one side, "action" buttons on the other, it's like a PSP but useful (I'd love to have a PSP, but I'd spend all day hacking it!)
However, I love xRick, Monkey Island on Scumm, Tetris, Asteroids (Pocket Frog version) and Space Invaders (found on Modaco).
Not free, but I love SprintRG, Elite, Vector Blaster (I bought it for both my p900 and Magician!), Pocket Slay (superb, even just in trial mode), and BustEm.

pocketNester will let u play every Nintendo Entertainment System game ever made and it runs very smoothly on the HTC Wizard, un-fu**ing-fortunately, the the phone buttons cannot be assigned, so you only have one button on either side of the d-pad.
many windows mobile games don't run very well on the wizard because of its OMAP processor structure. you need to do some system tweaking to get some games to run smoothly, and there aren't many system tweaking apps for the OMAP processor out there, yet.

5) My Little Tank - Battle City-like game but with outstanding graphics
6) MorphGear with all modules (GBA/SNES/NES...) - Very smooth emulation but noisy sounds
7) Atomic Cannons - A good game to play with friends (you need to estimate power+coordinates to hit your enemy's tank)
8) Gangsta Race - Road Fighter-like game but control can be done using stylus
Other stuff is "play and delete"
1) Anthelion 2 / Flux - flying on fantazy motorcycle
2) Arvale - Journey ... - just a kewl quest

thanks for the tips. I was playing Wolfstein 3D. But doom is better.
Can you, please give me an advice- how dou you map the keys for the Wizard (if in landscape mode) which keys do you use + how to map them. Do you use one of the skins provided (default, industrial, keyboard, etc?)

I don't get to play games as much on my ppc. but when I do I usually play Bejeweled and Zuma, Text Twist if I feel like I need to exercise my brain a bit. I also play PocketUFO occasionally [it is a port of XCOM Enemy Unknown] it is free and is available from SMK.

Yes. This is done through skins. Check out "Skins Specs.txt" in "Skins" folder of gfDoom. Attached is my skin. Place it to "\Program files\Doom1\skins\default" folder and replace old file.
Shortly, you need to know key codes for keyboard buttons. These can be obtained using MorphGear / Button configuration. Then mapping is done by adding lines in this syntax "VKHWBUTTON KeyCode NameOfFunction" to "doomskin.txt". List of commands is given in "\Program Files\Doom1\skins\Skin Specs.txt"
Example for "O" (key code is 79) to open doors (command: OPEN)
Code:
VKHWBUTTON 79 OPEN
My keys:
Ok/X = Run toggle
O = Open doors
SPACE = Fire
BACKSPACE = Escape
G = Gamma level increase
W / S / A / D = Cursor with strafe keys
X = Quit game[/code]
Does 'Street Duel' work on it? That game is awesome!
Ah I just got scummvm to work on it! Very chuffed!
Is the law regarding that, you can download the games aslong as you have the origionals even if its in a different format? As I have Monkey Island for the Amiga, so would it be legal to have the scummvm version?
Does anyone know where I can download Discworld and Broken Sword from? I have them for the Playstation but they would be wicked on my phone! I know the website jmc mobile has a few good ones on it!
Same with Doom... Is there just a shareware version out or the full game?

Morpgear works great, except for landscape east orientation, but using landscape west (keyboard 'above' screen) games are very well playable.
To get good performance, use OmapClock
Yes morphgear woks in landscape an East orientation!
You have to pull the keyboard (so the screen goes to landscape mode) and with a 3rd party software (like "Inclose Mobile") go back to portrait orientation. Then start morphgear and you can play in fullscreen landscape mode without bug.
However it was difficult to assign key... some on them are buggy and don't work properly...
But with omap clock at 264 and thread priority set to low in morphgear SNES game are quite playable!

Just use Start->Settings->System->Screen applet to rotate back to portrait. No need for 3rd party soft. Another acceleration would be using of GAPI Driver (General Settings of MorphGear)
racing games?
heard there are a few racing games, searched and found Midtown Madness 3D for smartphone.

seems a little pricey, but i might just pick it up. has anyone tried it?
i cant get morpheous to work, anyone got a link for the cab / exe file ?
chrisredmayne: if you own a license to the game, even as old as that, I'm sure no one will mind if you use it with ScummVM.
To find other similar games, check out abandonware sites. I love having Monkey Island on my phone, even if I never play it. The mere curiosity value always makes me smile.

How do you guys play these games on your WM devices? Are they not DOS games? Or are there WM versions now?
Or is there a DOS emulator out there for WM that everyone knows about except me?? :-(

You'll need an external keyboard or something.
Without tweaking, you've only got the d-pad and centre button available for use in games. In addition, I've only been able to unlock the camera shutter button for mapping... but in doing so I've broken it's normal functionality as a shutter.
Best bet? Look for games that were created for windows mobile and rely heavily on the touchscreen for control.
Also note, when looking for software for the Touch/Vogue... you might want to skip the smart phone versions. You DO have a windows mobile smart phone, but usually the smart phone version is for a device without a touch screen.
You can use the camera, dpad, send, and end buttons in most emulators, with the combination of the touchscreen. I can use em in all of mine
no external keyboard needed for any of the ones i mention
it's all part hardware buttons hard touch screen for moving the char and shooting if we sepak of fps games
though imho these fps's are not really usefull to play for real
rts and rpg's works better because one dont need as much precision and speed
though hardcore rts fans may beg to differ
My favorite games for the vogue are
-pocket quake (Quake is my favorite game of all time. I'm going to try the qrally mod on my ppc)

Hey fuzzydeer,
How did you get the key mapping to work in Worms World Party?
It seems to only allow you to assign the "Camera" button to either Jump, Shoot, or Backflip. I only really want the shoot button to work, but it requires that you register all of the keys!
ajones, what emulators are you using that allows you to assign the send/end keys to the controls? i have tried some emulators and have had no luck doing this.
I've installed PocketDOS 1.12.1 with FREEDOS on my X1. PocketDOS runs just fine and shows my storage card as c: - which is good.
Now I'm trying to get my favourite oldschool DOS game running, One Must Fall (OMF). Here, a problem occurs where it states that an error occured at *hex code*. aka, it doesn't run as DOS normally would. (and yes, I've tested OMF, it works fine on my PC) I've also tried x486 emulator, but OMF sais that no 486 is detected.
Has anyone gotten a DOS emulator running properly? I'd love to play this game on my X1.

Sure thing, what exactly do you want sharing?
I'll go google the game and ty it out first, no point wasting time if it doesnt work.
Ok
I just installed it and it works fine with sound off. If I enable sound i get a runtime error, but with about 10 sound card options to choose plus having to manually chose the IRQ and DMA channel it was unlikely I was going to get it right first time any way.
There is also an update for the game that was STRONGLY recommended, I'll install that now too and see if it still works.
P.S. It's currently running pretty slow.
Alright. Good to see that at least you've gotten it to work.
What version of PocketDOS are you using, any addons? I'm using 1.12.1 with FREEDOS. Also tried the x468 plugin, but that didn't work properly.
Perhaps the OMF I've got isn't any good for the PPC..

I got OMF from dosgamesarchive.com
PocketDOS v1.12.1
FREEDOS100 cab
PDOS_BOCHS_CPU.dll 486 emulation
If you put more than 1 DLL in there for the emulation it wont detect or work. Delete the DOSBOX one if you have the both then enable this one in settings.
P.S. I tried installing the update for OMF.... I didn't notice any improvement ... but it did break the "full version" and make it a demo.
my cracked version works tho i even had heroes of might and magic working on a 11mghz 486 and also windows 3.0
Aye, I got it to work now, but it's indeed slow as hell. The X1 is far more powerful than is needed for this game. I've only tried a 486 emulator, does anyone have a pentium emulator?
Would love to get this game running properly!
I also noticed one graphical issue, the screen is shifted towards the right a bit, clipping off ~60px of the image. On the left side, the missing pixels appear. You guys see that too?
i'd say skip the emulators and run native games for good performance
Just try this:
In the dosbox goto
Settings ;Display ;performance
Write mode :Choice Write-thrrough
and under
options: choice "Write directly to display memory"
perhaps this might help.
best regards
not using any plugin, increased the expanded and extended ram to above 8mb, under display write mode "write through" and "write directly to video memory"
this setting makes some of my games not as painfully slow as dosbox 4-7 fps... quite playable, just no sound

Yes, that's the dll I'm using. Are there any better ones? I mean, this is 486 emulation, there must be something like a pentium emulator around.
I don't get why the X1 doesn't run it smoothly either. Though I guess it's the qualcomm cpu that isn't properly supported.
Just the thread i waited for...
I've been trying to get dosgames to run on my x1 for quiet a while but coludn't get any sattisfying results.
I used three different versions of dosbox for ppc but they were all too slow and had problems with their on screen keyboard. the wvgascreen is an other problem. but the worst thing is that development of dos-emus for winmob stopped a long time ago.
I would wet my pants if i cold get rebel assault with sound to run on my phone at a playable framerate...

my dell axim x51 (xscale 416mhz) runs dos games fine with dosbox (20-33fps), and x1 runs at 4-7fps, and a whooping 11fps when the screen is completely blank ); with pocketdos, the dell axim is running at full speed (except when 486 cpu plugin is used), x1 is just playable with a big "?" attached to it
same goes for morphgear snes module, it is quite fast with axim x51 with mid quality sound, but lags on x1 with no sound (still playable)

Guys,
Any good emulators for HTC Touch Pro 2 on the net? - GBC
- GBA
- PS
Any nice games/roms for these emulators?(for example i would like to have the whole pokemon series (from GBC to GBA (to DS if possible)))
What are your sources? sites and ****
Will there be emulators of PSP or DS or something or isnt that possible?
Thanks
Dont think those emulators exists.
I was looking for emulators of nes and sega, could find anything..
You can use morphgear if you change your IME settings so it can recognise the keyboard. However, Genesis module crashes and SNES isn't so stable either. SNES is usable though.
I've so far found FPSCe for PS(x?), Pocketgnuboy for GBC and Morphgear for GBA..
But shouldnt TP2 be able to play games from DS and PSP platforms.. it at least has a better CPU?? or doesnt that have anything to do with it?

Please note, you need to emulate EVERYTHING from DS and PSP! Our beloved Pro2 isn't capable of that!
Simply try to play a GBA game with sound enabled and you know how many power such an emulation would need!

Just because it has a higher CPU speed, does not mean it should be able to process stuff from other platforms better.
All CPUs have different architectures. The CPU in the Touch Pro2 is an evolution of the ARM architecture. The DS also uses an ARM class processor, but uses a different instruction set.
The PSP uses a MIPS CPU.
Modern computers use variations of the x86 architecture.
The reason why they are called "Emulators" is because they have to emulate the instructions and architechture of the processor of the other device. This wastes a HELL of a lot of your own devices CPU cycles.
This is why running a PlayStation (33MHz MIPS CPU) emulator on a 500MHz x86 PC CPU is pretty slow, despite having 15x the CPU speed.
Does anybode here have a NES or/and SNES emulator, which one supports landscape modus ???
I am using an TP2
1.53 CRASHEs after i try to load the selected rom.
Thanks a lot !
After I have watched the following video, I found that TP2 is quite smooth for playing some games on emulator.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9b0BXy55KI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awp1PlK2A70
You can also try emulating PC (not just DOS). You can mount any ISO as CDROM drive, there is Windows95 image ready to use, so no need to install, just start it up and play with it.
I got it all to work, it's not very slow, sometimes I click on something and it opens in 1-2 seconds, so not bad.
Not something to install games and play, but something cool to show off and play with.
I managed to add NE2000 network card but couldn't get network to work yet.
Works well on Touch Pro2, including Landscape mode.
After you press F12, hardware keyboard Enter key works as mouse click (single and double click). F5 turns full screen on.
Instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3581848&postcount=258
P.S. There also is older MAC OSX image, loads pretty quickly under that emulator.
I think SNES emulator works...
you may try this..

Gives a SEND - Do not send error after i chose the rom to load..

oohww.. no.. sorry i made you all enthousiastic for nothing
i ment thanks for the info about why the tp2 probably wont be able to handle psp & ds games.. and the software suggestions like.. fpsce(ps) pocketgnuboy(gbc) pocketgba/morphgear(gba) pocketsnes(snes)..
(allthough i thought that the gba emulators are in landscape what i saw on youtube.. but don't wanna give you false hope)
laterss..
I'd definitely be getting on this when I get my TP2 next week. I love using emulators for gaming on my Wizard and will definitely find ways to get SNES,PS,GBA working.

psx is playstation one. FPSeCE will run playstation games on Windows Mobile. There is a new version that should be coming out soon I've been keeping an eye on this one.
www.fpsece.net
and how about a c64 emu for wvga?
the *morphgear* is a great emulator (nes,snes,mdrive,gboy,gboycolor....) to full screen mode u have to go in the config settings, tap the vgame u'll play(nes,snes....) and change de zoom 100% to window size. u have to change de driver to (auto to GDI) , in orientation stay in north. to config the inputs u have to tap your virtual keyboard and tap "other inputs method", if u don't to it u'll stock inthe config input method and the number 229 will appear in all buttons. thanks
Hey.
I own a rootet AFTV Box and I love multiplayer (party games).
But it feels like that this is not to find some good ones.
Perhaps you search for the same and we could build a list together.
At the moment I am using just a Bluetooth Controller called Snakebyte droid:CON and a Logitech K400 with USB-Sick.
My favourites until now:

Tennis. On Firetv store. Fun in multiplayer. I guess I don't have two controllers to test it out.
Maybe when GlideN64 gets added to Mupen64Plus AE,you could possibly run multiplayer games at a more decent speed, and maybe even the SM64 Multiplayer (2P only?) hack if I am thinking correctly.
FireTV's performance comparably sucks since it has the outdated [email protected] Qualcomm drivers.
Thanks for the list. I am working on a multiplayer platformer (Rayman-like coop) but it will take some time to be ready (probably about two weeks left of work). Good to know there are people to seek such games.
And good to know you can run Micromashines on Fire TV, I spend a lot of time with friends on that game - shame they don't make games like that anymore, it was excellent for parties.
PS. I play this on Wii U: http://www.amazon.com/Sanuk-Games-SARL-Bombing-Bastards/dp/B00L2Z3UV8 - it says it's compatible with Fire TV, it is great for mutliplayer (it's basically a simple Bomberman clone).
