Extra Letters.. HELP! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

i just bought this phone less than a month ago, its an AT&T 8525 and out of no where one night it just started typing multiple buttons for no reason while trying to text with the keyboard.
I have tried reflashing a few different roms and am now back to the AT&T version of WM6 and im still having the same problem, i havent dropped the phone or anything so someone please help.. its ony on specific letters such as..
when pressing L or P it always types LP.
when pressing T or U it always types TU.
when pressing G or J it always types GJ.
when pressing V or N it always types VN.
its ONLY those letters and only types those combinations its like the signals in the phone are getting mixed up on those letters or something and i have no idea why it started or how to fix it, ive tried installing the 8525 keyboard fix and it does nothing.
PLEASE HELP!

If its under warranty take it back otherwise you can try to open and fix but that will void the warranty.
Heres the guide to disassemble - http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com/PersonalSpace.aspx?_c02_owner=1
Make sure you have a size 6 torque ey, a flat blade(small) and a phillips head(small). Fairly easy and unless you are REALLY heavy handed you can't do to much damage. Your Hermes is fairly resilient.
Cheers....

hmm okay now if i disassemble it then how do i know what to do to fix it??

At the site I gave you, look for mikes guide on keyboard problems... It tells you how to check certain things if you have problems. If that doesn't fix, I'd buy a broken hermes on ebay or something and use the parts... Oh, thats right, I did...
Cheers...

Ok I searched and searched but couldn't find anyone with this same problem.
My screen flips out 10-12 times a day. What it look like is imagine a screen reflection in the water then throw a rock in the water. It distorts really bad. Anyone know if there is a fix for this or do I need to buy a new phone?
I'm running 2.26 Rom with my own custom extended rom and lots of programs, speed hacks and a2dp hacks, could some registry setting be doing this? a program?
ouch...sounds to me like you need a new phone. I'd try a hard reset, maybe a stock carrier rom and if that doesn't help, screw it, back it goes.
Its strange its not consistent and usually only on the today screen. I have hard reset the thing and re-flashed it multiple times. Think its slowly turning into a brick? Luckly $50 get me a new one with t-mobile if thats the case
"not consistent" is almost always a hardware problem. A trace somewhere corrodes and causes a resistance but not an open, heat affects a chip....all kinds of things can happen and it's not black and white. If $50 gets you a new one and you've already tried the obviously solutions, there's really no question what the next step should be. At least if it was mine. I'm already on my third phone in less than a year because of hardware problems.
Definitely a hardware problem.
Ahhh ok well. ok thanks for your help and thank god for spb backup
Mine has been doing this for ages... I hope it doesn't brick itself. I have backup and insurance too, thank god!

Qwerty Keyboard - "W" & "S"

I havent dropped my wing or anything but the "W" and "S" keys on the qwerty keyboard have been losing their sensitivity for the past few weeks. I have to press REALLY hard to get them to work
Anyone know if this would be fixed by replacing the keys or might this be something deeper? I'm toying with the idea of taking it apart - I'm not a stranger to taking apart some of my other phones - but the wing is way more complicated than anything I've done before....
TIA
See if you still have waranty before you take your herald apart.
If so...take it back to the store you've bought it from cause once you've taken apart your device all waranty is lost.
If not...i have see several how-to's to disassemble your herald with good pictures. Try google because i cant't find the exact location where i saw them, perhaps howards forum? Spare parts a sold all over internet or try to buy a broken version for someone over here...might even be cheaper.

What a STRANGE problem with my buttons and LEDs! Ideas?

Hi guys!
Long time no post!
I hope you can help point me in the right direction.
Two things started happening with my 8525 TyTN, rendering it unusable. I do have a backup one, so it's no panic. But I would LOVE to try to repair this.
Here's what happens!
1 - The two LEDs in front don't work! No green; no blue; no amber. (HOWEVER, When I first replaced the battery after a hard reset, I did see is glow red for a second!)
2 - None of the buttons on the front work! None. Start/End, the D-pad, mail, internet explorer. All dead!
Interestingly enough... the LCD screen is perfect, as is the touch screen.
The unit also works perfectly fine.
I did a Hard Reset.
I am using WM6.0.
I am wondering... PERHAPS there is some kind of ZIF cable that goes from the body to the top panel? MAYBE that came loose?
If you have seen inside your TyTN, is there one cable/ribbon for lights/buttons?
If so, that would explain it!
If there are two cables/ribbons.... one for lights, one for buttons, then the odds of them BOTH falling out are near impossible!
I would LOVE to hear any ideas or thoughts!!!
Thanks as always!!!!!
Mike
Hello and welcome to a new phone!
I have a similar problem, mine sometimes gets a white screen and the D-pad buttons rarely work for long.
It is quite possibly a loose ribbon cable.
There is actually a thread here about this issue - just do a search for 'white screen' or similar and you'll find it. It was posted to within the week so shouldn't be far from the top if you browse for it, but I can't remember which Herme's category it was in.
There's even a full guide with pics to pulling your 8525 apart!
Cheers! Oggy. ó¿ó
try a new rom,.
I have the same problem. I thought it was bcs my TyTN fell down once. It started with Iexplorer always popping up when I wanted to do something. I thought the IE button at the top was stuck or something and when I pressed hard on the message button everything was okay. All buttons worked. But after a few days they stopped working and pushing the message button wont work also. And both the red and green call button leds are always shining. It sometimes happens that the dpad works for a second and than nothing.
I used the original wm5 and flashed to 6.1 now, no change tho.
it's not the rom, tried several roms now
for me it's just the call answer button, but this is annoying enough
there are some topics in the hermes section which describe the problems you encounter or even worse problems (the lcd flickering or just giving you a bright shining white) and they all say it is a loose cable connector right under your dpad
some of them opened their tytn (guarante already gone) and put some sort of paper or rubber or sth else on the connector.
other say tighten or loosen the screews worked for them, but none of the solutions seem to be final, it always works for some time.
if you have still guarantee i would try sending back or try somewhere else a repair, that is what i will do with tytn
i hope i do not have to pay for the repair
good luck
Loose screw
I was able to fix this problem after ATT told me that I was out of warrenty and it was going to cost 499.00 for a new phone.
I it turn out it is a loose screw on the inside and to get to it you have to undue 11 screw to get to it. I might be able to fix it for you. I dought you would be able to get into this phone and not hurt any of the other functions.
Rick
Hi,
could you advise how you managed to fix it?
Thanks.
button failure and white screen
I have the same problems, if I turn off and on for 3/4 times everything back to normal. But is really annoying because I miss calls.
To me seems a software issue.... I can solve it by turning off the screen does not make sense hardware problems
have a look to this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=435281
I have still to test the suggestion of schaps advance config version 2.02.1.0.0
Sorry it not a software issue and you can flash a 100 roms and it still won't work. You simply have a bad flex cable and possibly a defective dpad circuit board. You have to crack open the phone to replace it and it has to be carefully done. There are tons of DIY's about opening the phone and replacing the cable. There are even YouTube Videos about it.

Keyboard problems

Well Im really upset... It takes me almost a month to get a replacement LCD screen for my Wing and I am proud to say i took it apart and put it make together making sure all is right.. (ribbons..screws..yellow tape...) and guess what it powers on, reads the sim, get a signal, phone works..BUT NO KEYBOARD.
Actually The only letter that do work are the e,f,h,n,o and if i hit the caps lock i get them to go caps but i get no indicator light to turn on. Same thing for the ALT indicator light. What in the world could have gone wrong? i was so careful taking it apart and putting it together for this to happen? I even did a hard reset thinking this might solve my problems? nothing its all the same.
any ideas?
you probably messed up a ribbon or something, its pretty easy to do it. I've heard stories of people messing up their keyboards when they replace the screens, so it's not really a common issue.
If you're still under warranty, slap on the original rom, un-hardspl, and call tmobile and tell them it just stopped working.
if not under warranty, do the same thing, and then raise plenty of hell when they tell you that your warranty is over (hint- ask for their supervisor)
Im going to try to take it apart again. maybe i missed something on the rebuild. it sad to think that after i was so carefull i screwed up the ribbon cable. if that fail ill try tmobile..
I'm experiencing the same thing. Were you able to resolve the issue by re-seating any of the cabling, or doing a hard reset? I don't have warranty on it so I may just have to replace the cabling if my futile attempts of fixing what I have now finally sinks in.
Still not working
junior120872
I took it apart one more time and with a magnifying glass reseated the ribbon. Looking at the ribbon closely there is nothing wrong with it. I looked everything over. still no keyboard. i hate giving up but at this point i have nothing i can do over to get this to work..
Ill probably sell it for parts now.
I have a problem with my keyboard I have an azerty keyboard but now I use an english rom (and the phisical keyboard is on qwerty). How Can I remove my azerty keyboard to my pda ?
Thx..
you can always use the herald service manual to disassemble the device, remove the keyboard, and replace it with one salvaged from a broken herald or something, but you run the risk of running into the problem detailed here.
What you can also do is use Duprade's keyboard fix and create a custom patch for yourself and just learn to use Azerty. This is alot easier than the above process.

home key not working

my home key just stopped working out of the blue any reasons why??? no water damage none like that please help
k so now i notice that the send key dosent work either
If its still in warranty, the phone should be sent back to your carrier so that it can be swapped out. There really isn't anything anyone can do for a hardware issue like this. If you bought the phone second hand (ebay etc) and you are feeling adventurous, you can search for directions on disassembling the G1. I wouldn't recommend this unless you knew what you were doing, or are comfortable with the likelihood that it won't work and you'll need a new one anyways.
