hi i have a xda 2 o2 pay and go with the following rom info
Rom Version: 1.72.00WWE
Rom Date 03/15/04
Radio Version 1.17.00
Protocol Version 1337.28
ExtROM Version 1.72.181
as we all know its hard to keep up the fone fully charged.. im always out n randomly doin dj sets here n there.. n sometime dnt have the charger.. the battery gets flat...
then i finally put it on charge and then thing starts a fresh install!
i loose everything except wats on the storage card!
is there anyway this can be solved? i think its very very stupid of o2 or whoever to develop a pocket pc that looses this information so easily!
dnt loose everything off a pc jut because the powers been turned off... even when the battery in the motherboard goes flat u only loose the date and time settings and a few settings that the machine just auto runs if the batterys flat!
so y cant i turn the pocket pc off... or can i??? if i turn wireless of and then press the power buttin and the screen goes off - is it then fully off? consuming very little power?
wats the easiest way to update the xda 2 and with what files... although this is my 1st post i do and have many a times searched around the forum for solutions to things its just i never have anything informative to post so i dnt thus not filling the forum up with crap! lol ... and although im usualy very technically minded what ever is mentioned in posts is quite baffling lol!
is the a simple way to update? if so wats the best update?
oh and how can i back up contacts without using outlook as i dnt have it... i dnt use it never have so dnt have it... and again if i cant backup the contacts again someone in development of the xda 2 made another **** up!
Thank you very much in advance to anyone that can help! its very much appriciated!!!
oh yes this problem with the fresh installs has happened 3 or 4 times now!
also once the screen sort of half froze... the top half looked off but i had a dull box with so txt in it... i first thought it was screen burn etc bt it was frozen... and nothing would correct it till i took the battery out
i put it back in after about 2 seconds and its started up and ran a fresh install!
please help its so annoying to loose over 160 contacts everytime... also having to keep writing them onit etc!
DJ
Go to your settings and use Xbackup - you can select contacts only or all data and save the backup onto your storage card, assuming you have enough space. The contacts only option will produce a small file which can easily fit into your Storage folder in case you like swapping storage cards. Data in Storage is persistent and will survive dead batteries.
The XDA will not lose its data if you have a flat battery. The battery level does not show all the actual charge. Even when it drops to zero, there is still enough charge left to keep data good for 72 hours. Recharge within 72 hours to have everything back to normal. Just do not remove the battery or else your reserve battery will run out in 20 mins and you will lose everything!
If this is not happening for you then you may have a defective battery.
Sometimes your XDA will completely crash with a frozen screen and the only option is to remove the battery to force a hard reset. Its Windows afterall....... If you have backed up using Xbackup or Activesync then it is only an irritation. Regular backup is key to happy usage!
thank u very much!
also noticed ive had the fone on the side for 3 days with everything off like fone facility off, bluetooth etc
and the batterys hard dropped!
again cheers for ur help
Hi guys i wasnt quite sure where to put this thread but finnaly decided this forum was fine. I am sorta a newbie but have been reading loads. I think this website is awesome and i will probably donate!! Anyways i have been having a problem with my phone . It is a T mobile MDA Vario Uk IPL 1.06 and SPL 1.06 and WM5, OS 5.1.70 (if that matters)it died, i went to the tmobile shop they sent it to thier place but it came back unfixed. Anyway to make a long story short i turned out to be the charger but now a week back i have got it up and running again!! But when it freezes as it does everynow and then i have no choice but to take the battery out. When i turn it back on the date and time has gone back to November 2005! It does not do this when i turn it off by holding down the power switch. It also loses some tasks i have made . But wierdly not all the tasks. For example i had 4 tasks i took the battery out , when i restarted it the date went back to 2005 and only 1 task remained!. Is there some other way to put it of that i dont know about when it is frozen? Or am i just doomed to keep changing the date!
Thnak you very much for your replies and your time in advance.
Are you trying to soft reset the phone first? Are you trying to turn the phone all the way off? Removing the battery should be a last resort approach.
Here's the deal...
You can stave off a lot of these kind of memory/freezing problems in the future by loading some kind of RAM indicator (QuickMenu has a built-in one, can manage running programs, and gives you a Windows desktop-style start menu for programs instead of the dumb folder avalanche) to let you know you have too many programs running, and you need to do a soft reset every once in a while, or at least hibernate it periodically (you can do this from QuickMenu), just to jog it clean. It would also be wise for you to load a temporary file cleaner to clear out your temp files every once in a while...you'd be shocked how much crap piles up under the OS when you're not looking.
Lastly, since you might end up really losing some important data, I'd recommend getting DotFred's PIM backup tool and loading it on an SD card in your phone, and configure it to back up your phone regularly (like once a day at 2 am, for example). As long as the phone's left on, it'll do that for you, and if your phone really craps the bed, at least you'll have your contacts, meetings, and other info safe and sound.
Also, in the future, please add the info on your phone to your sig, so you don't have to repeat yourself 8,000 times, and you might want to try more descriptive titles for your topics than "Hey," unless you like being ignored...
Thank you Myrddin Wyllt but what did you mean by hibernating it ? do you mean just pushing the on/off button quickly so the screen goes of? oh yeah and thank you for all the advice on this forum i shal procede to do that now! Thnak you again
Yep i have done that now
upgrade your OS to at least WM6.
When I got my phone it had WM5 on it, and it used to lock up or spontaneously soft reset at least once a day, even though I soft reset it regularly. Since I upgraded to WM6 I no longer have these lockup problems.
thank you i was thinking about upgrading but wasnt sure! About the battery thing i just found out about the little hole on the side. I think this solves the problem . But about upgrading will it make my phone slower or take up precious memory or something? And the big question which one?? Also some apps i would like to have require .net framework 2.0. I tried installing it on my phone on the storage card , i had about 50mb free but it still said there is not enough space and told me to clear up space and start again! will upgrading my rom also solve this problem? Is WM6 just like WM5 what are the differences i am a beit of a newbie here! You might have to treat me like a child on this one!
Also i was wondering out of the 47.4mb internal memory of the MDA Vario how much is used by the system and how much crap have i got on? Also if i use "clear storage" then will it also get rid of programs i have installed on my memory card and i have unlocked my phone. Will it re-lock it and return the old crappy t-mobile themes?? (i have spb moble shell atm)
Thank you in advance!
Well guys I would just like to thank a lot of people here for the stuff I did to my Wing...
Bought at about spring of 07 (as T-mobile wing)
Used as stock wing until spring 08
Fall 08 switched to ATT and put the wing to rest...
recently turned it back on...
Things that have been done
-Replaced LCD twice now (first time the digitizer was broken and fixed with new one, then that one preceded to break!! new one again)
-Unlocked via IMEI-Check to use on ATT
-Cleaned every up got to 19mb free ram on startup and 15mb free storage on stock rom then just decided to try some new roms...
-After about 6 different roms ended up with Aserg's latest build, still using that today
-Wasn't happy with that cruddy blue front and back so i decided to get some oem p4351 black front and back
-8gb hc sd card
-Spare battery
-Thats all the hardware upgrades so far, will be looking into switching out cpu and or ram if possible
-Typical things done on the software side such as OC'ed to 299mhz, increased system cache, page pool, the typical things that are listed on this forum, and my own random hackking in the registry to clear up space... Aserg's rom has something like 17mb ram free and 24mb storage free i believe(don't quote me) On startup the items are at 31mb for ram and 23mb free for ram (best i've had is about 26mb ram and 33 mb storage)
Seeing as I love to tinker and this phone is decent if anybody has suggestions or would like to chime in with things i want to do that would be excellent!!!
Next Project!!
-Replacing cpu and ram? anybody hear of this? i'll be looking up diminsions and other things soon, so i'll be updating soon
I'll get pictures up for everyone to see soon!!
Hope you all enjoy, second post for me I think! haha
No matter what build, what OS I put on it, I cant do ANYTHING with out it freezing.
AND I MEAN ANYTHING....what ever i do, what ever app I start, 2-5 mins later the phone freezes.
what sucks ever further is no matter that WP7 ROM I install, it refuses to boot past "GO, GO, GO"
I've tried task 29, different radios, still no gold

To solve some heating you need to remove the SIM card. But whats a phone with no SIM right
The only way to fix it it to either doing it your self or send it to HTC and once you get it back, sell it.
I had the same problem, once I get it back ill sell it and buy an iPhone 4G. I love the HD2, but it freezes so much.
Call the repair service.
still doesnt work, its pretty much dead now, wont even boot into winmo sometimes and cant do anything on it anymore...atleast i dont have to worry about getting rickroll'd cause it usually freezes after 5-7 seconds on most YouTube vids

im having the same problem but it started after my HD2 fell on the ground facing the screen down.. after that my phone started freezin randomly and i have noticed that it get stuck when there is a little press from the back near battery pin and near SD card if i keep the phone without any press on above position it stays as long as it get pressed again is there anyone out there knw wht is happening to my phone
I have the same problem, what usually works for me is to pull out the battery and let it rest for around 2 minutes.
Then pop it back in and let it load the ROM. After the ROM loads.. wait at least 5 minutes before you do anything.. it usually holds on, but there's always the hang somewhere after wards
It is really frustrating.. any specific hardware fault, maybe I can fix it myself.

Damn. Better get it fixed.
Any idea how much it'll cost? Is it easy to change or will I have to give it for repairs? (no official HTC service store )

You can buy the board and do it yourself if hou want to. You just need a small hex head screw driver and to be very carful taking your phone apart. I can not remember tbe exact location of it but there are links to some leaked official HTC training videos on desassembling and reassembling the HD2 here on XDA, but the videos are on pocketnow.com. The board recuires no soldering abilities as it has the camera and screen have ribbons that just plug in.
i suggest checking the battery pins also, make sure they are straight and shiny!

yea im gonna send it in, turns out the main board is overheating and that mean its pretty much dead...if the back gets really hot and it freezes on you, chances are your hd2's not far from death
RE: disassembly video
here you go. in case you feel brave enough to do it. it's pretty easy. i just bought a new htc HD2 for $105 after i drop my samsung captivate...i bought it knowing the screen was faulty and use this video to help take it apart. afterwards the screen is more responsive now

I have the same problem and that is too irritating... Pins are straight and shiny
The only way to fix it is to uniformly bake the board at 210-220*C/430*F (but no more that 230*C/450*F or the PCB will start incinerate) for 20 minutes, (thermostat controlled oven (for toasts) or better infrared heater, NOT MICROWAVE!!!), this will reflow broken connections and solve most cases of freezing. Keep your eyes on temperature, open oven after 20 minutes and let it cool down, don't move anything until in cools to room temperature. Start heating from room temperature and slowly bring it to peak temperature during first 15 minutes and keep for last 5 minutes peak temperature (about 210-220*C).

i have probleme when i reboot the phone it stuck in the android screen (the one befor the boot animation) so i have to take off the the battery and wait between 2-3 min befor turn on and the same probleme happen when i turn off the phone and turn it on after a short time ( less than 2 mn) i install eveything from the begening hspl 2.08+task29+magldr+recovery ..
i tried diffrent roms : rafdroid, coredroid, cm7 and actually hyperdroid ... in all roms the same probleme.
NB: the probleme wasnt there when the phone was under WM
thank you in advance
You shouldnt be using the reboot option for HD2 Android as its faulty and can corrupt your SD data. You should only be using the power off option.
yes i know that but as i said even if i turn off the phone and turn it on after 1 mn the same probleme happend ... i need to wait between 2 and 3 mn befor boot again ... i dont know if it's software or hardware
does this even happen, when you take out the battery and pull it back in under 1 min?
yes it happend .... i take the battery or not it's the same i need to wait 2 mn or more... it's like some process need to be done or a circuit need to be discharged ...it's annoying
I'm not sure, but probably theres an hardware issue on the board.
I think theres a capacitor and that cannot been short-circuited (however). So theres some current on the board that holds the ram till the capacitor is discharged.
If this happens, the ram depletes and the phone can boot correctly.
Hope you understand what i mean
If there's no other problem, power off and wait two minutes. all should be fine ...Hope the board won't ever crash completely!!
sure i understand i'm maintenance technician ... anyway that that' the answer i gived to my self ... but i remembered somerhing importante ... i tried to install wm again because as i sayed the probleme wasnt when the phone was under wm so maybe android keep that capacitor charged ... when i tried to install wm the spl changed to 3.03 than i install again 2.08 to come back to android ... and i relized that the probleme nearly diseaperd but sometimes it come back ... so i sayed it must be the software ... well i'm lost
Do a complete clean install, task29 and full format/overwite with size adjustment on with Panasonic sdformatter.

I have!
It mostly does it if you have sd-ext but can also do it if you dont.
i did a clean install many times and i dont think that the sd card is the probleme because. i used 2 unless the 2 have probleme ... any way i was hoping that someone had this issue but i guess i have to live with

might be do do with the sd card being used and the speed of it
been using sd-ext for long as builds been out, never had any corruption issues
me neither i rebooted my phone about 1000 time and i never lost any data ... but there's a risk ... better if u avoid doing it
any ideas????
i got 1 idea...don't bother with "task 29" coz that will just waste a few mins of your time.
I FU**ING hate it when MUPPETS keep replying to these reboot problems with......."do a task 29"
SHUT THE F*** UP - TASK 29 does not solve EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!
Doctor, i've got cancer
"well, sir, just Task 29 yourself"
Officer, my wife has just been gang-raped.
"well, just task 29 her"
GEEEZZ!!!!!!!
